Chapter 25
Destiny- Part 1
Third Person POV
Jack and Yusei got ready to duel at their starting positions.
"Yusei, this duel will settle the score and decide who has the mark of the true King," Jack called over.
Jayla and Arch looked at each other and rolled their eyes in unison, though it was unintentional. When the realized it, Arch smirked while Jayla grew focused again.
"Are you sure about this, Jack? We don't know what will happen if the Crimson Dragon comes," Yusei responded concerned.
"When the times comes, I will make the Crimson Dragon part of my own strength," Jack responded. "Besides, don't you want to reveal the fifth Signer?"
'Jack's right. Yanagi said there are five Signers. So far we only have me, Luna, Akiza, and Jack. Which means the fifth has to be around here somewhere,' Yusei thought remembering what Yanagi had said.
The counter hit green and the two duelists shot off like a bullet with the Dragon Protectors at their side sticking close behind.
"I'll let you, the challenger, take the first move," Jack decided.
Yusei drew his card silently. "I summon Shield Wing (Attack 0/ Defense 900) in defense position," he declared. "I set two face downs and end my turn."
As Jack began his turn, he looked at a card in his hand and thought, 'It will be fitting enough to settle our scores.' "I summon Twin-Sword Marauder (Attack 1600/ Defense 1000) in attack mode. Now, my marauder, attack his Shield Wing!" Though Shield Wing wasn't destroyed thanks to its ability, Twin-Sword Marauder's own effect still dealt damage to Yusei knocking him down to 3400.
"You forget, Jack. Shield Wing can be attack two times per turn without being destroyed by battle," Yusei reminded.
"Well then it's a good thing my marauder can attack more than once," Jack informed and launched the second assault bringing Yusei's life points down to 2600. Jack smirked. "I set a card face down and end my turn."
Yusei drew his card and thought as he looked at it, 'I'll save this for later. When Jack least expects it.' "I summon Junk Synchron (Attack 1300/ Defense 500). Now I tune Shield Wing with Junk Synchron to synchro summon, Junk Warrior (Attack 2300/ Defense 1300)!" he declared. "Junk Warrior, attack Twin-Sword Marauder!" The attack succeeded in destroying Jack's monster and bringing him down to 3300. "Next I activate, Synchro Blast! Now once per turn, if one of my synchro monsters attack, you'll take 500 points of damage." As such, the card activated dropping Jack another 500 points for a total of 2800. "I end my turn there."
Jack drew his card. "I summon Dark Tinker (Attack 1000/ Defense 1200). Next I activate Powerful Rebirth. This revives my Twin-Sword Marauder with its attack and defense increased by 100 and its level increased by 1 (Twin-Sword Marauder: Attack 1700/ Defense 1100/ Level 5). Next I tune Twin-Sword Marauder with Dark Tinker to synchro summon. Rise from the ashes, Red Dragon Archfiend (Attack 3000/ Defense 2000)!" he proclaimed as he dragon rose. Jayla watched as Arch gave her a slight wave and confident grin while he merged with his holographic form. "Yusei, I had to crawl out of the depths of society and give up my friends and hometown to become King. But now you're trying to walk the same path without giving anything up. Well, I can't allow and can't afford to lose to you!"
"Jack," Yusei started, 'did Arch tell you about what happens to the Dragon Protectors during our duels?"
"What do you mean?" Jack asked.
"When we summon their dragon forms, they become the form on the field. They merge with it," Yusei explained.
"That explains the growl I heard when you and Akiza were dueling," Jack muttered in shock. He looked at his dragon who was watching him and the field. Jack shook his thoughts off and continued the duel, "Whatever. Now since Dark Tinker was sent from the field to the graveyard, I can draw one card."
"Do you always let him treat you like this?" Jayla asked her fellow Dragon Protector telepathically.
"Don't you?" Arch responded and Jayla could hear the amusement in his voice.
"True," Jayla responded with a silent sigh making Arch laugh quietly. "What's so funny?"
"You," he answered.
"What's so funny about me?" Jayla asked blushing lightly.
"It's nothing," Arch replied.
"Whatever," Jayla responded returning her attention to Yusei and the duel.
"Red Dragon Archfiend, destroy his Junk Warrior!" Jack ordered and the attack was hit knocking Yusei down to 1900 life points. "I set three cards face down and end my turn."
Yusei drew his card. "I activate Descending Lost Star to revive Junk Warrior in defense position with its effects negated, its defense reduced to 0, and its level reduced by 1 (Junk Warrior: Defense 0/ Level 4)," he declared. "Next I summon Hyper Synchron (Attack 1600/ Defense 800). Next I tune my Junk Warrior with Hyper Synchron in order to synchro summon. Take flight, Stardust Dragon (Attack 2500/ Defense 2000)!" Jayla grinned as she merged into her dragon form while she and Arch watched each other at a stare off. "And since Hyper Synchron was sent to the graveyard for a synchro summon, Stardust Dragon gains 800 attack points (Stardust Dragon: Attack 3300) and can't be destroyed by battle."
. . .
In the stands, Luna called, "Ancient can you come sit here and explain what's going on between Jayla and Arch?"
"Yes, Mistress," Ancient agreed and landed. She made her wings invisible and sat in the abandoned seats behind her mistress.
"Hey, why are Stardust Dragon and Red Dragon Archfiend just staring at each other? Shouldn't they be growling or something?" Dexter asked.
"No," Ancient answered bluntly. "They have a destiny together that only one knows about. Arch is trying to make sure that their destiny works out as our creator plans." Leo and the others were still immensely confused and even more so by her cryptic response but didn't say anything. "You will learn in time. Star will learn quicker than you think. By the end of this, Star will know about her destiny."
