AN: Sorry for the short chapter, but I needed to get the beginning of this arc out and ready to go. To make up for it, I'll post a second chapter later in the day. Anyway, here you go with the beginning of the new arc. Hope you enjoy it.
About a month into classes, things were going like normal. Everyone was doing what they normally do. "Ruby, you see my necklace? I can't seem to find it anywhere." Weiss was searching for the necklace given to her by her Grandmother. Her Grandmother was the only person Weiss really felt connected to in her family, and when she passed away Weiss only had that necklace to remember her.
"I haven't seen it." Ruby was sitting in her bed reading a magazine.
"Well can you help me find it then?" Weiss was starting to lose her patience.
"Weiss it's just a necklace, you can go without it, and if you lose it just get a new one." Weiss just stopped.
"Ruby, of all the things that you could say right now, that was the worst of them all." Weiss turned around to face her, and she was visibly mad.
"What are you freaking out at?" Ruby asked.
"What am I freaking out at? What am I freaking out at?! I'm 'freaking out' at the fact that I can't find something of value to me, and you're simply dismissing it off as just another necklace. Of all the insufferable things you have said over the time that we have known each other, this has been by far, the worst of them all. You're nothing but an immature childish dunce." Weiss had walked out of the room and slammed the door behind her. Ruby looked like she was about to cry, but she was more upset at herself being an idiot than Weiss being upset at her.
A few hours later, team RWBY was asked to go out on an assignment. They were to go to an abandoned town to see if there was any White Fang activity in the area. "This assignment will have you splitting up at some point, so you will need to be careful." Ozpin told them before they left. When they got there, they were amazed at how run down the place was.
"This place looks deserted." Blake said.
"How long do you think it was like this?" Yang asked.
"Probably for a long time." Ruby answered.
Weiss just stayed quiet. 'I got a bad feeling about this.'
"This is where we split up. You guys remember to be careful ok?" Ruby turned and started to walk away. Weiss was still upset at her, and so she walked away herself. Blake and Yang looked at each other wondering what was going on. Eventually they walked away themselves.
Weiss was supposed to go through a few abandoned buildings on the southern edge of the town. She carefully made her way through each building, noting that there was nothing going on in any of them. 'Maybe I should talk to Ruby when we get back to Beacon. I did go a little far with what I said.' The next building she walked into had something that caught Weiss' attention. She walked inside keeping an eye on her surroundings. One second she was looking around, the next she felt something pull against her leg. She realized that she had walked right into a very thin wire that stretched across the doorway to a different room of the house. Weiss' expression changed in a split second and she realized that it was a trap. 'Oh no.'
Before she knew it, the building exploded around her, knocking her into the room and onto a conveniently placed pad. Weiss managed to survive the blast, but she felt her head ringing and her body was bloodied and bruised in multiple places. Looking down at herself, seeing that what was usually a white dress, was starting to be covered in black from the soot and ash of the explosion, and red from her own blood leaving her body. She lost consciousness a few seconds afterwards, but not before noticing two individuals standing over her taking notes of what happened. "Yep, that's her alright." The first one said.
The second one leaned down to make sure she was alive. "Orders are to bring her with us. Grab her and let's get out of here before this place falls apart." The second said.
When Ruby heard the explosion, she feared the worst. She decided that she had to run to the building it went off in. Eventually she met up with Blake and Yang, and that only made Ruby feel worse. When they arrived at the building, they were horrified at what they saw. The building was engulfed in flames and it was about to come down. Ruby tried to run forward but Yang pulled her back. "Ruby no! If you go in there then you won't come out either. What good will that do?" Yang tried to reason with her sister.
"But I have to go in and get Weiss out of there. I have to." Ruby kept trying to force herself out of Yang's grip.
"I'm sorry Ruby." Blake said before she knocked Ruby unconscious. Yang just looked at her shocked. Blake felt terrible about it but she did what she had to do. "We need to leave Yang. As much as I want to get Weiss back, the odds of her being alive still are slim, and even if she was, it's too risky to go in there. I hate to do this, but we need to go." Yang didn't want to leave, being torn about whether to leave and upset Ruby, or go in there and put herself and Blake at risk on something that may not come to pass.
"Dammit, I hate to do this, but I guess that makes sense." Yang said, carrying Ruby back to the ship to head home.
Back on the ship where the two men grabbed Weiss, they went to contact someone. "Sir, we found her. Are you sure that she will comply with this?"
"I'm sure that she will. I'm gonna have to convince her myself, but that won't be hard to do honestly. Just make sure that she gets the treatment she needs to get herself back into fighting shape. This whole plan is too important to let any single hitch cause the plan to fall apart, so don't take any risks with this." The man ended the call, leaving the two men to bring Weiss back with them to wherever they were planning on going.
