A/N: Back again with Yui's romance, I know it was only on Thursday, but the last update feels like ages ago! So, I won't keep you guys waiting. Go ahead, read! Haha.
Chapter 26.
Three months ago Dante had asked Kazuto for his permission to propose to his daughter. The ring he had been eyeing for the same amount of time was affordable now too... Because he hadn't been collecting his Teathilas figures, which was a worthy sacrifice.
He looked at the beautiful ring from outside the jewellery store, looking at the intricate detail of the black engravings on the shiny silver metal, the huge stone twinkling in the middle, the gold strand running around the circumference. It was perfect, and bloody expensive too.
He grinned and walked into the shop, a small bell ringing above the door to alert the owner to his presence.
"Dante! Welcome back! Come to take another long look of my prized ring?"
"Maybe a little more than that today Joe... I want to buy it." The small stubby Scott chuckled, and smiled.
"So you've decided to tie the knot Lad? She is a lucky lass that Yui... To have a boyfriend like you, who is buying a ring like this. I would never have had the patience to save for so long... You have been coming here for almost six months now."
"I know... I recently stopped buying my nendroids and figma figures to speed up the savings... I love her Joe, with all my heart."
"And you have my support, for what it's worth. I'd give it to you for free, but a man has gotta eat."
"I wouldn't take it, I want to work for it, it's so beautiful."
"Ok, well let us get to business. ¥103,050."
"Would you sell it to me for ¥101,050?"
"That isn't a lot of difference, so of course!"
"Thanks Joe! You are the best!"
"I know Lad, I know."
They made the transaction, bowed to one another, and Dante left the shop with a beaming smile.
Tomorrow was Yui's eighteenth birthday, and Dante hoped to make it the best birthday she had ever had.
He entered his flat, and called out for Yui. He got no reply, and sighed. He found a note, informing him she had left for groceries, he smiled, and went to go and hide his ring. He hid it behind his desktop computer, under the hole in the desk made for wires. The velvet box balanced carefully under his desk, on the keyboard tray.
Perfect.
He flinched as Yui entered the flat.
"Dante?" She called out, taking her shoes off. Dante walked over to the entrance and greeted her with a deep kiss.
"Happy birthday."
"But it's not until tomorrow..."
"Tonight is my treat. It's a special pre-birthday... Thingy. It's because we are all alone today. So, I'm cooking, and we're going to watch an awesome movie, we're going to eat a load of chocolate, drink if you want to. I'm going to make sure tonight is a lot of fun. Ok?" He kissed her again.
"O-ok!" She smiled, and walked over to the sofa, and sat down with a sigh.
"Long day?" Dante smiled.
"Some kid decided to go and make a mess in an aisle, he literally threw all the toys on the floor. I spent at least forty minutes clearing it up... It was a pain. I didn't even get to do counter duty."
"Poor thing. You must be exhausted." He flipped some spices in his hands and added it to the meal he was preparing.
"You sound like an old women inviting travelers in."
"Shaddup."
Yui chuckled. "What are you making?"
"It's a Mediterranean recipe, very spicy. You should really like it, if my cooking skills are somewhat decent."
"They are better than my dad's. He almost burnt the house down."
"Eh, something every male does."
"Twice."
"Oh."
"The second time while making toast."
"How do you even..."
"He also once gave us all food poisoning, because he undercooked a chicken. By a lot. Needless to say, Mum always cooks."
"I see. Haha, my Dad started to teach me to cook when I was ten, I loved it. We started by making pizzas and burgers, but before long, I was making meals with multiple herbs and spices, presented in a beautiful fashion. My parents sometimes used to let me cook, and they would comment on how much they loved it, and where I could improve. Cooking food is just... It's an art."
"Remind me why you don't always cook?"
"Because you say you really enjoy it, and I can't be bothered."
"Lazy."
"Yup. And proud."
The couple chuckled.
Silence filled the air.
"S-so... What do you want to do tomorrow? After the party at the dicey cafe I mean."
"Ah... Agil's old cafe... Um... The park?" She twirled her hair around her finger. "I know a park where my Mum and Dad used to date... I'd like to go there."
"It's settled then."
~An hour later.
Dante called his hopefully soon to be fiancé into the dining room, and presented his Mediterranean meal with a grin. They sat opposite each other, and Dante looked expectantly as she took her first bite.
"D-dante..."
"Is it too spicy?! I knew is should have toned it down..."
"No! This is amazing! It's... Just... Amazing! I love it!"
"Thank you Yui... Glad you like it."
"You have to make this more often."
"It's a special meal. Only for special days." He flicked her nose playfully.
"Humph. Dante."
"Shh. Eat up." They giggled, and wolfed down the meal, forgetting to savour the taste as they tried to force more and more flavour onto their taste buds. Dante cleared his bowl seconds before Yui, and they looked up. Then, they realised.
"S-so hot!" The both bolted and ran to the kitchen, poring them both a glass of soda to ease the burning sensation, he smiled.
"Maybe... We shouldn't... Have wolfed it down." He said, the fire leaving his tongue.
"I...Think you're... Right..."
They both locked eyes briefly, before bursting into laughter. He grinned.
"So, now that our meal is over, would you like to go and watch some TV? Or we could go straight to bed."
"Or..." She took a step forward, and passionately pressed her lips against his, he almost stumbled back in surprise, Yui was not normally the one to initiate passionate acts. Her tongue swirled around, Yui liked being the dominant one for a change, and she fought a battle with his tongue, now he had recovered from his shock. They explored one another, Dante wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her up against him, their chests pressing together.
They finally broke free, panting.
"Well... I think that was better than both options."
She smiled, and embraced him.
"Why don't we go lie in bed?" She said, smiling against his shoulder.
"I think that's a good idea." Dante smiled back.
They both quickly changed, crawled into bed and slid under the duvet. Yui turned to face Dante, and he smiled at her.
"Have a great birthday Hun."
"I know I will, thank you Dante." They kissed once more, before Yui rested her head on the pillow, and Dante tucked her head under his chin. They pushed their bodies together, and shared their heat as they fell into a deep sleep.
Dante flickered his eyes open, it was still night, but he could sleep. Not with the nervousness flooding his mind.
I can do it... He thought to himself. Tomorrow... Tomorrow, I will propose.
But he shook his head, doubt flooding his mind.
But we're so young... What if she says no? I love her unconditionally... But...
Another more logical side of his brain kicked in.
No, of course she will say yes. She loves me just as much as I love her, and our age has nothing to do with it.
And then the worry. And then the logic. This continued, a raging war inside his head, a battlefield of conflicted feelings and thoughts. He decided he needed counseling.
He slowly lifted himself out of bed, making sure not to disturb his almost Fiancé. Maybe.
He walked over to his laptop, unplugged it and took it to the living room. After pouring himself a glass of orange juice, he sat down.
He opened up his virtual room app, and, grabbing Yui's amusphere off the side of the TV, he opened up a link.
Aki spawned seconds later, in pyjamas, looking disgruntled and angry.
"It's three in the morning Dante. You're lucky you didn't wake Sky up."
"Sorry Man, but this is really important."
"Lemme guess, you don't have a present for Yui?"
"No, I do, but it's the present I am worried about. I haven't told anyone, and wasn't planning to... I got her an engagement ring... I'm going to propose."
Aki Instantly straightened up, and looked seriously into Dante's averted eyes. He forgot his drowsy-ness, and sat on the virtual room's sofa.
"W...Woah man."
"I-It's a bad idea..."
"N-No! You and Yui are perfect together, and I cannot imagine your relationship progressing any other way, it just caught me by surprise."
"I see... Well... I'm just not sure whether to propose, and if I do, if I do... Would she say yes?"
"Are you stupid!?" Aki stood up and strode toward him, gripping his shoulders with maybe a little too much strength. "Of course she will say yes! I doubt the decision would take less than a heartbeat!"
"R-really?" Dante seemed reserved, and timid, it wasn't like him.
"Truth is, I've been thinking about when I was going to propose too... I was going to ask you at the party tomorrow. I love her so much, but I don't know yet. We are young. And I haven't been through as much with her as you... I think I'm going to wait a couple of years to be honest. But, go for it man. I'm sure she will say yes. By the way. I have to be best man."
"Of course." Dante winked. "But... Yeah. Ok. Ok. I'll do it, on the bridge over the stream. While walking her home to our apartment."
"What's the ring like?"
"You'll see it soon enough."
"Grrr. I hate waiting."
"I know. Impatient, You are."
"Have a good night sleep Dante, don't stay up all night."
"I'll try Aki, you too." They both disconnected, and went to their respective partners, crawled into their respective beds, and slept peacefully.
~Yui's birthday.
Dante was excited. He was shaking, sweating and felt like running away forever, but he was exited. Yui woke with her usual beaming smile, and grinned as she straddle Dante, waking him with hundreds of kisses.
"Morning Dante!"
"Morning YuYu." The name had stuck.
They both got up and prepared themselves as quickly as possible. Dante wore a suit, with a red tie. Nothing too special, but nothing too casual.
Yui wore her new deep blue dress, twirling in the mirror as she checked it over. Happy with it, she skipped over to Dante and planted a kiss.
"Come on, let's get going." They drove to the Kirigaya household, grinning.
Kazuto gladly greeted them, ushering them inside as he kissed his daughter's forehead.
"Welcome back you two! Are you ready for the Par-tay!?" Kazuto laughed.
They cringed, and chuckled.
"Definitely!" Yui shouted, bouncing on the spot.
Dante fiddled sith the velvet box in his pocket.
A/N: Thank you all once again! Your support is awesome! See you guys next week!
