"I don't wanna hurt you Frostbite, none of us do…" Bunny said slowly still standing protectively in front of Jamie's small form as Caleb and Claude ran to his side.

"Too bad you won't get the chance!" Jack yelled into the storm before bursting into action.

But Bunny was ready for it.

He quickly dodged the icy blast and sprint fast through the snow, adrenaline pushing through his veins. The cold, the roar of the wind and the numb feeling in every muscle disappeared as he leaped into the air, boomerangs at the ready.

He swung. His weapon matched in his speed and it flew through the wind just missing its target. Jack yelled in anger and raised his hand. The stabbing wind easily bended to his will and Bunny realised too late what was going to happen. His own weapon was turned upon him and before he could turn it hit his head hard where he immediately crashed to the ground.

He clenched his eyes tight as white dots invaded his vision. But realising the threat was still near he ignored it and got back to his feet. The wind was even stronger, whipping him harshly and he looked in panic around him. Fires were growing stronger, hissing and spitting up the buildings that were slowly crumbling to the ground. Shouts and screams echoed loudly in his long ears.

He narrowed his eyes through the thick blizzard where Caleb and Claude were standing in front of Jamie as Jack advanced towards them.

"No!" Bunny cursed and he was once again in the air leaving behind his useless weapons.

His feet once again had the perfect effect and Jack was pushed of his own landing hard on the ground.

But this time Bunny did not give him a chance to redeem himself. He ran towards him muttering a quick sorry before punching Jack hard in the face. Jack fell unconscious under the powerful blow.

Bunny spared a second to look guilty before running over to the three children.

They were all practically blue in the face and Jamie was still unconscious.

"TOOTH!" he yelled loudly through the storm. He gently scooped Jamie's small form into his arms and held him to his chest. "C'mon guys. Let's get ya outta here."

Caleb and Claude clumsily got to their feet, their arms wrapped around themselves as they shivered.

They battled their way through the storm, the only source of light being from the vicious flames that seemed to grow higher with every minute. The sky was darkening itself but through the thick smoke that lingered around them it didn't matter.

A blue and green blur battled towards them.

"Bunny!?" Tooth called shivering as her wings fluttered madly against the blizzard. Upon reaching them she didn't even ask, but grabbed the two boys around the middle and flew back the way she had come. She and Bunny fought against the bitter storm, the flashing lights just visible now through the snow and smoke that wrapped around their lungs, suffocating them.

"There!" bunny shouted loudly, even thought they were right next to each other. But Tooth only just heard him, the wind howling in their ears.

They both set the children down and vanished back into the storm as two fire-fighters ran towards them.

"Over there!" One of them called.

They both raced as quickly as they could towards the figures.

"Help!" The brothers called desperately, their teeth chattering as they hugged themselves tightly.

Once they reached them one of them scooped up Jamie and held him close and the other lifted both Claude and Caleb over each shoulder. They immediately turned ad started back through the storm. As they got further away from the unknown battle that raged on behind them, the storm didn't seem as strong. As Caleb and Claude watched the distant flashes of light they glanced at each other, worry etched across their eyes.

"Jamie!" A woman screamed. Not even caring about the warnings the Woman broke through her Husband's comforting arms and slipped under the police tape running as fast as she could towards the small huddle that was in the Fireman's arms.

Two Policemen intercepted her grabbing an arm each and restraining her as she tried to wriggle free. "Please!"

"It's too dangerous Ma'am!" One of the told her and they started to pull her back over too where the other citizens were all waiting in distress.

"Please! He's my son!" She cried still struggling fruitlessly.

The two Police officers exchanged unknown words and released her and she sprint over to one of the parked ambulances.

Her breath caught in her throat as she looked at him. Two paramedics were already rushing around him with their equipment. "Will he be okay?" She whispered shakily.

"Yes Miss," A young looking paramedic said smiling at her as she prepared an IV. "Are you related?"

"I'm his mother." She said still trembling at the sight of her boy wrapped tightly in blankets, dried blood on his face. Despite the nurses reassurance she wouldn't be happy until those brown eyes opened and looked at hers.

"Okay." The woman said gently, "If you'd like to come with us, I'll explain what is happening."

Getting into the ambulance she held Jamie's ice-cold hand in her own and looked outside tears in her eyes.

She could see Jamie's two friends being reunited with their parents at another awaiting ambulance. Her husband was arguing with a policewoman, a crying Sophie wrapped up in his arms. She smiled as finally the Policewomen gave him admittance and he ran towards her.

"Is he alright?" He asked breathlessly, making sure Sophie's head was tucked into his jacket so she couldn't see.

"Yes, were going to hospital now."

"We'll meet you there." He said looking at her then giving her a small kiss on her temple. "Don't worry, like you said, he is going to be alright.

She let out a small smile in return and watched as he hoisted their daughter more securely in his arms and took off without another word.

The ambulance doors closed and she watched her son carefully, not taking her eyes off of them. "It's going to be alright baby." She cooed in his ear, even though she knew he wouldn't hear her.

The ambulance took off, leaving the terrible scene behind them.

"ARGHHHHHH!" North yelled loudly as he swung his swords at the shadow-man.

"That all you got old man?" He sneered, laughing icily and blasting North harshly backwards where he crumpled in the snow.

"North!" Tooth cried as she crawled over to him through the snow where she had fallen not long before him.

"Now where's that apprentice of mine gone hmm?" Pitch wondered aloud as he rose into the sky to observe the wondrous scene before him. He had never felt such power in a long, long time. The fear was intensifying every bit of power in his body; and he wanted more.

He watched as the Fire-fighters below fought against the flames enclosing the children, their battle pointless as the hissing infernal grew tall over them lashing down.

Crowds and crowds of his nightmares were hissing in the children's ears and biting and snapping at the only things trying to stop them, the Guardians. But two of them were already down. He squint through the snow storm until a blur of blue caught his eyes. He narrowed them slightly before shooting down to the pile of limbs.

Letting out a frustrated sigh he bent down and let his thin fingers grasp the white hair. Yanking it up harshly he shook Jack, slapping him across the face before red eyes met his own.

He groaned.

"Get up and finish those Guardians!" Pitch yelled harshly letting go of Jack where he fell to the floor.

"Get. Up." Pitch growled.

Jack shook his head slowly and did as he was told. Pitch tuned away to look at the battle going on behind him just at the moment that Jack's eyes suddenly flickered blue. It was so quick that anyone could have missed it, for His eyes now shone blood red, a scowl across his face.

Pitch turned around angry to see him still on the floor. He grabbed a hold of his jumper and hauled him to his feet before throwing him towards the battle.

Jack shook his head once more getting himself together before throwing himself into the wind that happily did his bidding. He could feel Pitch following him and he smirked, hoping to impress his master with his friends deaths. Wait. Friends? They were NOT his friends. They were his enemies. Jack shook his head hard again and bore down upon them.

Bunny and Sandy were on opposite sides, fending off the fearlings that threatened to hurt them all. Tooth and North were in between them helping each other regain balance. But even from here Jack could see their energy waning.

This wouldn't be hard.

He shot down towards them and threw a blast of ice at the two most vulnerable in the middle.

But the sandman had seen it coming and quickly formed a glittering gold target that broke the moment the ice touched it, both of them vanishing into wisps of gold and blue.

Jack growled angrily and aimed his staff towards the golden man. For the third time that day however he was thwarted by two big feet that had him landing on top of the nightmares that vanished beneath him.

"Let's end this!" He shouted furiously shooting into the sky and landing before them all.

"Jack! Think about what you're doing!" Tooth yelled coming to stand near them. She was stumbling a lot but no flash of concern crossed his face.

"I'm doing what should have been done long ago!"

"And what's that icicle brain?" Bunny yelled furiously. "Hurting your friends? Your family!"

"You're not my family!" Jack growled shaking his head once more and angrily throwing a blast of ice towards them all, but they easily dodged. "He is!"

"What Pitch?" Bunny said looking at him as though he was insane before laughing harshly. "He couldn't give a Danm about anybody but himself!" Bunny leaped towards him once more but Jack stepped aside and blast him harshly in the side where he fell to the ground with a loud groan.

Jack slowly started towards the Heap of fur that lay on the ground trying to get up.

"Jack. Please!" North strained from behind him. Tooth suddenly appeared in front of him and shoved him harshly away from Bunny. But Jack retaliated immediately and pushed her hard where she fell to the ground beside Bunny.

"Jack you're our family! We love you!"

"It took you too long to realise that!"

"I know mate. But you're our family. And we won't hurt you. Not like he does."

"How dare you speak of him!" Jack yelled furiously aiming his staff towards Bunny. But something held him back and still he did not strike.

"Kill them!" Pitch shouted from somewhere above furiously.

"If you're in there Jack. I know you won't hurt us."

His glinting eyes watched as she stared into his very soul. How could she be so caring? So accepting? Shaking his head again he looked around at the destruction, the burning buildings, the smoke, the vicious wind, the cries and screams of desperation. No hope, no wonder, no dreams and no joy. All that was left was cold and dark. Fear.

How could I want this?

No, it was right.

How? my friends, family, everything I care for.

But they don't care for you.

Then why are they refusing to hurt me?

They're going to trick you.

But they're my family.

Pitch is your family.

What am I doing?

Obey.

Jack held his head tightly and backed away slowly.

"Please." Tooth whispered a single tear sliding down her cheek.

He looked around and Sandy was furiously trying to fight off the Nightmares who got closer and closer, but the harsh wind beat him at every side.

Jack gasped in pain and he was suddenly thrust into the air. He opened his mouth in a silent scream as he felt his body rip apart.

He began to glow a blue white, and suddenly it grew and grew until everyone cowered under its blinding light. it burst. The bright light exploded across the whole of Burgess, eve the adults could see it. Everyone shielded their eyes and flinched away.

As quick as it had come it was gone. And Jack fell to the ground. Even the nightmares had stopped. They all looked at him. Waiting for something, anything to happen.

His eyes shot open. Blue.
