Hello everyone! Here's the next chapter.
Enjoy!
Emily tightened the police vest she had on. Next to her was her partner, Benjamin Warner, was loading his weapon, readying himself. They were standing next to their unit, their weapons laid out on the hood of the car.
"Where the hell is Jason?" Benjamin asked Emily as he slipped a magazine into his gun.
Emily shook her head and sighed. "Late."
A few moments later, Jason Tate, Emily and Benjamin's other partner, came jogging up to them. "Am I late?" He asked, pulling on the vest that was for him.
"Very." Emily answered, loading and holstering her gun and then a backup gun.
"Sorry. There was a hold up in the line for coffee." Jason tried to explain.
Emily rolled her eyes and Benjamin just shook his head.
"At least be on time with the backup, alright?" Emily gave him a hard stare.
"Yes, of course." Jason flipped a hand.
Emily sighed again.
"Let's go!" Captain Maldonado ordered through the comms.
"Jason, I'm serious." Emily warned.
"Don't worry." Jason tried to reassure her. "The MX brigade and I are at your command!" Jason did a mock salute.
Emily took a deep breath and walked away with Benjamin. They were acting as point for the police raid on the known Schlechtes Leben hideout, which they were a block away from. They and ten other officers weaved their way through cars, trees, and smaller buildings to get to the hideout.
No one lurked outside, so they proceeded inside. Emily and Benjamin worked their way through the hideout, which was eerily quiet. The sweep through the front rooms of the hideout revealed no one and nothing. They came to a wide door leading to an inner courtyard. Crates, cars, and a shipping container were scattered throughout. Emily and Benjamin, along with a few others, split left, and the rest split right upon Emily's signal.
Emily and Benjamin rounded around a car. Benjamin looked down at the right, or possibly wrong, moment to see Emily trip a wire.
"Clark!" He yelled in warning. "Bomb!" He pushed her forward and they tried to outrun the impending blast that would resonate from the car's engine. Benjamin and Emily fell forward, the bomb blast so powerful. Shrapnel flew everywhere, hitting Emily and Benjamin's legs. They fell to the ground, the flames licking at their skin.
Emily got to her elbows. She looked behind her. Benjamin wasn't moving. Her legs hurt. A lot.
She heard an explosion in front of her and to the left. She ducked and covered her head. Rubble and bits of metal rained down. Emily struggled to crawl forward. She reached the shipping container and hid behind it. Another explosion resounded. And another. "I need backup." Emily murmured into the comms. Static responded. An EMP must have busted the system. They'll reboot in 90 seconds.
Emily took the gun she had holstered under her arm. She blindly fired around container. There were two more explosions.
She looked around. She dragged herself back to Benjamin. His head was covered in blood and it seemed like his skull cracked open. Emily summoned her will.
She dug around Benjamin's pockets until she found an old handheld radio clipped to his waistband. She turned the wheel on the top until she found the frequency the comms used. She pressed the button on the side. "I need backup. NOW." She ordered.
There were gunshots. Emily dropped the radio and went Benjamin for protection. Either to protect herself or protect Benjamin, she didn't know. She took out her gun again and fired. A masked man appeared in the distance and Emily turned to fire. He had something small in his hand. He threw it at Emily.
Emily didn't know where the other officers were. Pinned down. Or dead.
"Grenade!" Emily still warned. She tried firing at the man before he ran away.
Then the grenade exploded.
Emily's arm felt like it was ripped from its socket. It was still there, though. Emily was drenched in blood, both hers and Benjamin's.
Emily blacked out.
She came to in Jason's arms. MX's flanked them, creating a barrier to get Emily safely out of there.
"Jace. Where's Benji? He... His head..." Emily cringed in pain. More explosions boomed in the background.
"Don't worry, Emmy." Jason reassured her as he ran out of the hideout and to an ambulance that was rushing to meet them on the street. "I got you. I got you and Benny in time." Jason was reassuring himself.
Emily started to cry as she slipped back into painfully black darkness.
She woke again, on a cold metal table in a hospital, doctors and nurses surrounding her. "No!" She yelled. "Don't amputate! Please!" She tried to move away.
"I need more anesthesia!" The surgeon ordered.
"Get away from me!" Emily yelled.
A nurse pushed more sedative into Emily's IV.
"Get away!" Emily cried.

John found himself in the middle of the precinct. He looked around and saw Emily laughing. She beckoned for John to follow. She led him out of the precinct, her hand just out of reach for John to grab.
They walked through the doors and John was suddenly standing in the middle of a jungle. There was too much sunlight and John lost sight of Emily. He blinked, eyes adjusting.
He heard her laughter, whispers enchanting him to continue deeper into the trees. John continued walking until he stepped into a clearing among the trees. Emily stood in the middle, roots and vines sweeping around her. She had a white dress on, flowing beautifully with the breeze. Her hair was down, and she had a crown of flowers around her head.
Emily waved John forward, and he complied. He could see her legs were made of plant life, thorns and flowers woven in between. Her right arm was as well. She looked so delicate. If she moved, she'd crumble.
"Emily." John whispered, walking closer to her.
"Hello, my love." She whispered softly, brushing her left hand against John's cheek.
"What are you doing here?" John asked, taking her hand in his.
"Shh…" Emily smiled, quieting John's worries. "You don't need to be concerned about that."
She kissed him, but John pulled away, feeling that something isn't right.
He stepped away in shock. "Emily, you're burning."
Her legs had flames dancing around them. She looked down, pulling her dress away to see. The fire caught on to her right hand. Emily looked back up at John, scared.
"John." She whispered, her eyes widening. Her legs and arm shriveled away and she started to fall.
John ran to catch her. The fire was out, but her arm and legs were gone. She was crying.
"Why did this happen to me?" She asked, shaking.
John pulled her closer. "I don't know."
Then Emily's face turned dark. "Get away from me!" She pushed him away. "Get away!" She said louder. John tried to pull her close again, to comfort her, to explain to her.
"No!" Emily pushed at John's chest.

"Emily!" John had woken up somehow. He was holding Emily, but she was pushing him away. Her eyes her squeezed shut, but tears slipped out of them. "Emily, it's me!" John tried to reason.
Emily thrashed around in John's embrace.
"It's John! Emily, it's John!" He held her tighter until she stopped.
Emily stopped, realizing where she was. She looked up at John. "John, I... I-" She started.
"Shh..." John wiped her tears away. "It's okay. Just a nightmare." He reassured her.
Emily let out a shaky breath as she drew herself closer to John.
"It's just a nightmare." John echoed. His own dream was a nightmare.
Emily fell asleep once more, her head resting in the crook of John's neck.

Emily and Benjamin were laughing at a joke Jason had made. They were on a lunch break, which had been going on for two hours now. They had all finished their burgers and fries, and were refusing to get back to their work at hand because they were having too much fun.
"But then I said to him, 'Who cares? They already took your car!'" Jason smiled widely.
Emily laughed even harder and Benjamin laughed as he sipped some of his soda that he had left. Jason let out a loud laugh as well, slapping the desk for added oomph.
In that moment, they were having the best of times.
"Clark! Tate! Warner!" Captain Maldonado yelled from her office.
All three of them froze in their tracks.
Maldonado narrowed her eyes and retreated back into her office.
Emily, Jason, and Benjamin all looked at each other. They laughed again. Emily wiped a tear from her eye.
"Alright, alright. Okay guys, let's get some work done." She calmed her happy self down. "Let's go out and canvas the area around the scene."
Jason nodded and Benjamin put a jacket on.
"Who's driving?" Jason asked as the three walked out of the precinct.
"Whoever has the keys, I guess." Benjamin answered.
"Well who has the keys?" Jason checked his pockets.
Emily held out the car keys and jingled them.
"Nooo!"
"You've got to be kidding!"
"Today's the day we die."
"Hurtled ninety miles an hour over the median into a fiery inferno."
"May sweet, sweet death welcome me."
"And may karma come back around for Emily."
Emily laughed at their complaints and comments as they got into their car. "You better hold onto something!" She laughed again. She slammed down so hard on the gas that the wheel spun around until they caught on the asphalt, hurdling them forward. Benjamin braced himself against the dashboard as Jason let out a scream from the backseat.

Emily brushed back some of John's hair, their faces close. "You know I love you."
"I do." John put an arm around her.
"I don't tell you enough." Emily insisted.
"You tell me in what you do." John replied.
Emily closed her eyes and smiled.
"I love you." John kissed her.

"Good morning." Emily smiled, sitting up in John's bed, holding up the sheets to her chest. It wasn't really for modesty but more for warmth.
John turned around. He had just snapped his leg on. He was wearing a pair of boxers. His hair was tousled, but neat. "Aw. I was going to surprise you and try to make breakfast." He gently walked over as his leg calibrated itself.
"Try?" Emily asked as John bent down to kiss her.
John laughed as he brought over Emily's arm, fully charged. "I can't cook to save my life." He snapped Emily's arm into place. Emily laughed.
John brought over her legs.
"Well, surprise me. Maybe we won't have to go out for breakfast." Emily took her legs from John.
"Don't count me out yet." John smiled at Emily as he walked out of the bedroom backwards, keeping his eyes on a smiling Emily. He left, leaving Emily alone for a moment. Emily put her legs on.
She paused. She realized utterly and completely loved John Kennex.
How was it? I hope you liked how more of Emily's history is being revealed.
If you couldn't understand, the first dream is Emily's memories on the day she was caught in the explosion. Next was John's dream of him and Emily. Third was Emily's from before the explosion. The last one was John's of him and Emily again.
Apologizes for spelling and grammar. I rushed a little.
