A/N: Finally, here it is. Alec and his terrifying powers as a vampire. Enjoy!
Meyer's characters, not mine!
"So Alec, tell me a little about your powers. How did they work as a human?" Kate asked. I couldn't help but notice that she seemed positively bored. While I had been desperate to not be alone with Tanya any longer this didn't seem much better. I could have been talking to a robot for all the expression that was on her face.
"Well whenever I would get mad, my powers would begin to work. It was almost like a line leading myself to the person I was targeting. When that line connected us they would lose their senses and fall to the ground. The minute the connection was broken my effect was gone. But after the fact I always felt really weak, like I was going to pass out. I could never hold it for long." Kate's face didn't move an inch the entire time I spoke.
"Great." She said, a slight edge of sarcasm in her tone.
I wasn't sure why Tanya had gone to Kate to help me with my powers. If I was being such a big bother to her, I would leave her alone. It wasn't until I found out just what Kate was capable of I understood.
"Give me your hand." Kate asked. It seemed like a reasonable request so I did so without hesitation. The second our hands met I knew there was something horribly wrong. My whole body contorted with pain, and I found myself on the ground. I felt as though I had just stuck a fork into a light socket.
"What the fuck just happened?" I asked, looking up at her.
I saw the smallest smile form on Kate's lips.
"That is my power. I can run electric currents through my hands."
"Thanks for the warning." Acid dripped from my tone as I stood up and brushed the snow off my clothes.
"I wanted to see if you were immune. Don't worry, I used the lower setting of my powers."
The lower setting? I was finding that hard to believe with the pain she had inflicted. I didn't even want to think about what the highest setting felt like.
"Well, looks like I'm not." I replied, annoyance still strong in my tone.
"What a wimp." Kate said to Tanya, as if I weren't even standing there. She laughed with her sister and I felt rage building in my chest. I could feel the anger emanating from me.
"I bet he would cry like the little girl if you touched him again." Tanya squeaked out to her sister, still laughing at me.
Something quietly snapped inside of me at her words and I wasn't myself anymore. I felt a blast of hot anger pulse from my body.
My anger vanished in an instant, however, when both Tanya and Kate dropped to the floor. Their bodies suddenly went slack, as though they had both just instantly dropped dead.
I could feel the heat of my anger receding into my body and fear filled its place. I bent down over Tanya, pulling her into my lap and her eyes fluttered open.
"Tanya, are you okay?" I asked.
"Damn." She replied turning to her sister who was now sitting up in the snow where she had fallen, her face filled with fear. Tanya stood up slowly, staring at me.
"What the hell!" Kate said, her hands trembling as she looked at me, wide eyed. As I realized they were both all right I felt a thrill begin to rush through my whole body. I didn't feel fatigued in the least. I had used my powers as a vampire and it seemed they were even more powerful than I had hoped for. Even Kate's fearful expression couldn't take my joy from me.
"I'm sorry, but you made me angry. I couldn't' help it." Kate didn't respond, still looking shell-shocked.
"What was it like?" I asked, turning to Tanya.
"It was…terrifying." She said, seemingly still trying to readjust herself.
I was eager to hear more about it though so I prodded more.
"Sure but what was it like? Did it hurt? What did you feel?" My thirst for answers would be quenched. I demanded that it be.
"It was like, everything went black. All of my senses were gone. Even my sense of self, like where my body was or what it was doing was gone." Tanya said. It was just as I had thought. I could incapacitate anyone, and more than one person at a time. No one could stop me.
"I have never felt so helpless in my life." Kate said. Her terror was evident in her tone. But what was more striking to me was the utter distain that was clear on her face. My joyful power trip receded as she looked at me with disgust.
"That power is a curse." Kate spat out at me before running from me, back to the house.
I wasn't sure how to react to Kate. It wasn't as if I had chosen this power.
"What just happened?" I asked Tanya. Surely she would be able to explain her sister's behavior.
"Alec…maybe...I think you shouldn't use that power again." She then also turned from me and ran after her sister.
I felt as though someone had just punched me right in the ribcage. What had just happened? Kate acted like I was some huge inconvenience to her. Then her and Tanya had made me angry, forced me into using my powers, and then ran away like it was all my fault after the fact? How could I have acted any differently? And how could they expect me to just abandon this newfound power I had? I wanted, and needed, to know how to use and control it. The look Kate had given me made me sick. It was as if she were looking into the face of a pariah, of a monster she wanted nothing to do with. I couldn't understand it. And I certainly didn't want to stick around to have them look at me that way any longer. I needed to leave, so I did the only thing that made sense. I turned from the house and began to run.
Sorry this chapter is so short, the next one will be longer, I promise! :)
