While the ninja, kunoichi, and Sensei Wu were all recovering from their recent missions, a dying Oroku needed the supplies from the list that Barrac had provided. After being burned from Kai and refusing to become a Shadow to heal in seconds, King Oroku had very little time left in his life to sit and wait. Some Shadows went to get food, others captured doctors and medicine and some went to get modern day technology. A very important item on this list was still needed however. Cyrus Borg, the genius inventor was what the Society of Ghost needed the most. Xiao had offered to lead a small team to retrieve him. Not wanting to waste more time, Oroku allowed for his daughter's protector to lead the team. After retrieving weapons for the mission, and a secret kiss from Alayne, Xiao and his team left their base and ran towards New Ninjago City.
Not having the slow down at all to catch their breath, the four Shadows ran at great speed towards the city. Xiao ran in front of his team and was the first to see the city again. He had already been there when he was assigned to attack Kai, so he felt no awe for the city. Still, it was the first time for his team being there, and they were impressed with recent human technology. Xiao pulled out a telescope and searched around the city. He saw a large building with Borg's name on it and assumed that was were Cyrus was now. He motioned his team to move out and they did.
Cyrus Borg was working at his desk. After losing his ability to move his arms, thanks to Cryptor, the inventor rarely every built anything anymore. Most of his work now consists of writing reports, reading emails, going to meetings and designing inventions. Although he missed working with his hands, Cyrus was still a respected member in Ninjago especially in his company.
The work day was over and everyone was leaving to go home. Cyrus remained at his desk because he was expecting a visit from Sensei Garmadon momentarily.
"Mr. Borg?" His secretary called.
"Yes?" Borg answered.
"We just got word from Sensei Garmadon. He says he'll be there in five minutes and apologizes for taking so long to arrive." She said.
"Ah very good, thank you. Leave the front door open for him please and you can go home." Borg said.
"Alright, Mr. Borg, see you tomorrow." She said before hanging up.
Cyrus went back to reading an email and waited for Garmadon to arrive. Being preoccupied with his work, Cyrus didn't notice the Shadows hanging from the ceiling. One dropped down on his desk, two dropped on each side, and Xiao dropped behind him where he held a knife to Borg's throat. Needless to say, that Cyrus was beyond scared.
"Cyrus Borg, the Society of Ghost has need of your services." Xiao said in his ear.
"What kind of service?" Cyrus asked.
"We just need your big brain to make some machines for us." Xiao said.
"And if I refuse?" Cyrus asked.
One Shadow then sliced through Cyrus' computer with one quick motion.
"Don't." Xiao answered.
Xiao then looked around his lab and noticed something on Borg's lab table. Sitting in a glass jar filled with water was Xiao's own leg that he lost with his battle with Kai. He snarled.
"I see you've taken possession of my leg." Xiao said.
"That's yours? By all means, take it then. We could do a trade? Leg for freedom?" Cyrus offered.
The four Shadows laughed at Cyrus.
"Guess not."
Just then, Sensei Garmadon opened the door to Cyrus' office.
"A thousand apologies, Borg. I didn't mean to come this late but—." Garmadon stopped mid-sentence when he saw the Shadows.
"Oh, it's no trouble at all, Garmadon. While you're here, do you think you could give me a hand?" Cyrus asked with a nervous smile.
"Kill him." Xiao ordered.
The three Shadows jumped in front of the desk. Sensei Garmadon prepared himself while the Shadows all stood there. Garmadon's face tightened as he held his fists up. One Shadow pulled out two cutlasses, one Shadow had claws come from his finger tips and the last Shadow pulled out two sais. They all ran forward.
The cutlass Shadow tried to stab Garmadon, but the Sensei grabbed his wrists and threw him out of the office. Garmadon then kicked the sai Shadow in the chest and he fell. Garmadon then pulled out a shuriken and threw it at the claw Shadow, who blocked it with his claws and jumped over Garmadon. Garmadon backed up and the Shadow landed on one hand in front of him. Two blades came out of the Shadow's boots. He quickly extended his legs out and slashed Garmadon's chest.
Meanwhile, Xiao slashed the tires on Cyrus' chair and walked over to his lab table. Xiao then pierced the tank with his wrist blade and it shattered. The water spilled on the floor and his leg fell over. Cyrus watched as Xiao lifted his leg on the table, unlocked his metal leg from his body and place his old leg back where it belonged. It took a while for his healing factor to realize this was his leg, after being apart for so long, but once it did, the wound quickly healed and Xiao put his foot down.
"Much better." Xiao smirked.
Xiao then walked over to Cyrus Borg.
"Thanks for keeping it warm for me." Xiao joked.
Xiao pulled out a small knife and started to make the Mark of the Shadow on his arm. Because of his paralysis, Cyrus didn't feel a thing.
The claw Shadow had kicked Garmadon away, but the old man stayed on his feet. He was ready to throw a punch, but the cutlass Shadow ran behind him. He tried to stab Garmadon with his right sword, but Garmadon quickly moved to the left and punched his sword out of his hand. Garmadon turned around, punched the cutlass Shadow, turned around again and kicked the claw Shadow. With his left sword, the cutlass Shadow jabbed at Garmadon, who grabbed his wrist and broke the Shadow's arm at his elbow. A gruesome cracking sound followed and the Shadow dropped his last cutlass. Garmadon punched him to the floor and turned around in time to block several attacks from the claw Shadow. Garmadon grabbed the Shadow's head and threw him down with his brother, taking his mask off in the process.
Garmadon looked at the mask then at the Shadows. The claw Shadow stood up first. He was snarling as his face was exposed. His skin was light gray, he had strains of black hair on his head, his nose was missing and his eyes were sunken in. The cutlass Shadow picked up his weapons as he stood up. He then jerked his arm and popped his bone back into position. This caused another horrible cracking sound. Garmadon's eyes were wide but he knew he had seen stranger things.
The sai Shadow threw his weapons at Garmadon. The Sensei turned around fast and blocked one but the other pierced his right shoulder. Garmadon grunted in pain. Garmadon pulled it out and threw the weapon on the floor. He then turned back around as the claw Shadow slashed at him. Garmadon blocked its deadly fingers by pushing his arm back. Garmadon punched him in his chest again and turned around in time to flip the sai Shadow over his head. The claw Shadow jumped over Garmadon and sliced his back. Garmadon grunted again and turned around to see the cutlass Shadow get closer.
Garmadon quickly picked up two wrenches lying on a work bench next to him. As the Shadow swung his weapons many times, Garmadon blocked the attacks with the wrenches. Garmadon kicked the Shadow in his chin and sent him backwards. The sai Shadow came up to the side of Garmadon and jumped. Garmadon quickly ducked and the Shadow missed. The claw Shadow ran up to Garmadon who turned around and saw him coming. Garmadon threw a punch, but the Shadow slid underneath Garmadon and sliced through his thigh. Garmadon yelled and fell on one knee. Garmadon sensed another attack coming and turned around. The claw Shadow jumped on the sensei, who then punched the Shadow in the head, knocking him off. The cutlass Shadow came up to Garmadon and proceeded to swing his swords again, only for Garmadon to block them with his wrenches.
The claw Shadow stood up and heard a hissing sound. He looked down at his belt and realized Garmadon pulled out the pins of three of his bombs. The Shadow's eyes grew and he blew up in multiple pieces.
Garmadon continued to block the blades of the cutlass Shadow. Garmadon then quickly ran behind the Shadow, grabbed his neck and twisted it in the other direction. The Shadow, with his head facing the other direction, turned his body around and continued to fight Garmadon. Sensei Garmadon then punched the Shadow twice in the head which sent him back on the ground. When he landed, his swords impaled his chest.
The sai Shadow jumped from behind and Garmadon kicked him to the ground. He landed on his feet and was ready to attack. Garmadon gripped his wrenches tightly and held them up. The sai Shadow ran up and swung its weapons only to be deflected each time by Garmadon. Sensei Garmadon elbowed the Shadow in his back which made dust fly off him. The cutlass Shadow ran up and swung his swords and once again be blocked by Garmadon. Garmadon kicked the Shadow and turned around to see the sai Shadow fly right towards them. Garmadon moved away and the Shadow landed where Garmadon was.
The cutlass Shadow ran and attacked Garmadon who blocked again. With his back exposed the sai Shadow slashed Garmadon's back, who yelled. Garmadon turned around and blocked more attacks from the sais. The cutlass Shadow ran up and Garmadon blocked a single strike. Garmadon then blocked the attacks of the sai Shadow which meant the cutlass Shadow could get a cut in, which he did. The sai Shadow jumped at Garmadon who moved away and made the Shadow fall on his stomach. Garmadon then smashed one of his wrenches on its spine, breaking it.
The cutlass Shadow jumped on his hands, pushed himself forward, kicked Garmadon in his chin, slashed his chest and jumped over him. The cutlass Shadow turned around pushed Garmadon backward. Garmadon stumbled backwards and stopped when the sai Shadow impaled his weapons into Garmadon's shoulder. Garmadon yelled again. The sai Shadow left his weapons in there. Garmadon, fighting through the pain, punched the cutlass Shadow multiple times. The cutlass Shadow got one punch in and pushed him back. The sai Shadow kicked him forward and the cutlass Shadow grabbed sensei Garmadon and threw him into a wall, causing the sais to fall out.
Garmadon looked around and saw multiple things he could use. The cutlass Shadow was running from the side. Garmadon grabbed a blacksmith hammer and threw it at his chest. Garmadon grabbed a taser and rolled forward as the sai Shadow jumped towards him. Once far enough, Garmadon turned around and threw the taser at him, electrocuting the Shadow.
The cutlass Shadow ran towards Garmadon who picked up his wrenches. The cutlass Shadow blocked the attacks of Garmadon. The cutlass Shadow slashed Garmadon's chest and kicked him away just as the sai Shadow ran up to them. Garmadon jumped up and threw two smoke pellets at them. Garmadon ran to Xiao and Cyrus. He kicked Xiao into a window and it cracked.
"Time to go!" Garmadon said.
Before anything else happened, both Shadow's then jumped on Garmadon which caused all three to break through the already broken window and fall off the building. Garmadon and the Shadows broke through a glass ceiling and landed in Cyrus' factory. Cyrus Borg quickly activated the arms on his chair with his mind, a design Jay recommended after breaking his spine. One arm reached for a silver ball and the other reached for the phone. The arm dropped the ball down where the Shadows and Garmadon fell and the other dialed 911.
"What is your emergency?" The operator asked.
"COME TO BORG TOWERS IMMEDIATELY, WE'RE UNDER—" Cyrus started to yell.
He stopped yelling when Xiao walked behind him and broke his neck the rest of the way through, killing Cyrus instantly.
"Sir? Sir are you there?" The operator asked.
Xiao destroyed the phone.
Down in the factory, Garmadon and the two Shadows laid there, still alive, miraculously. Garmadon grunted and struggled to get up. Some of his bones were broken. He could still move his arms and legs though. The Shadows, however, got up with ease as their bones snapped back into place. They both grabbed their weapons and walked towards the defeated Sensei. Garmadon raised his upper half up and watched with horror as the Shadows got closer. Suddenly, the silver ball Cyrus dropped landed between them. On the ball, it read: "Cover your ears."
With the last of his strength, Garmadon quickly moved his arms and covered his ears tightly. It was painful because his bones were broken, but he still managed to do it. The ball beeped three times before emitting a supersonic frequency so high, all the glass in a two-block radius shattered. Garmadon squeezed his head tightly as the noise was getting to him as well which caused a nose bleed. The Shadows on the other hand, were too busy yelling and screaming with pain to even bother covering their ears. The sound was so high, all their organs, including their brains melted. The ball then stopped.
Without their brain to heal them, the Shadows fell over dead. When they fell on the ground, their skin now weak skin torn open and their liquefied remains poured onto the floor. With their threat over, Garmadon slid back on the ground, too weak to keep himself up. The last thing he saw before closing his eyes was Xiao throwing a dead Cyrus Borg over his shoulder and firing a grappling hook into the city. As Xiao escaped the city, he heard a few police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks approaching Borg Towers.
