Chapter 25:

"I want him pulled up on that cross and nailed to it, his neck tied back against the wood and I want everything about him stripped away." Rose's voice woke Loki into consciousness. He was alive, and there before him was Annabell on the ground unconscious. He pushed up on his hands to see the soggy ground replaced by a dry ground and the light of a sun rising. Morning!

"BROTHER!" His hear drums near shattered as Thor ripped Loki up onto his feet.

"Brother, so nice to see you again." Loki grinned as he pushed from the grip of the blond god. Just as he patted his leather back into place, Rose was at his shoulder and a hand at his throat. The heat of her flesh on his throat brought back a small sliver of fear. She might not even wait for Annabell to wake to hear that he didn't betray her.

Well, not in the way she thought he had. Loki had left that night, allowing Richard in. But it had been all in the plan. Richard would continue to run and hide and Annabell would just drown the world. Only, if Loki followed Richard, then he would make a stand and Annabell would never let Loki leave her like that. She would hunt him down personally.

"It was all apart of the plan!" Loki whispered as Rose attempted to close his throat with her thin fingers.

"My sister will be the judge of that. When she wakes up." Rose hissed.

"What do you mean… when she wakes?" Loki questioned with dark eyes. He eyed Annabell still sprawled across the ground. He knelt down next to her and pressed his hand to her skin. She felt icy.

"She used more magic that any magic should use in a lifetime. She will recover, but she won't be able to conjure any magic for a while, maybe a year." Rose whispered as she knelt down next to him. Loki then witnessed something he never thought he thought he would see. Rose, the queen, the head of their kingdom, closed her eyes and pressed a hand on top of Annabell's heart. She whispered a prayer. Then she confessed, "She used more magic today then I will ever be able to use in my lifetime. She has out shown even me."

Loki furrowed his brows at Rose who pressed her lips to her sister's brow then looked to Thor. Loki's brother lifted the limp girl into his arms, Rose providing a blanket to wrap her up in like a broken doll.

"She will be fine, though?" Loki almost questioned, he looked between the two of them with actual concern.

"Why? Do you actually have feelings for my sister you heartless fool?" Rose hissed. She didn't actually want an answer, she glowered at him and stormed off towards the large mass of people carting off the unconscious Richard. Loki glared at her but turned to Thor.

"Rose assures me that Annabell will recover, Brother." Thor whispered. Loki scoffed and put out his arms. Thor eyed him oddly, then down to Annabell.

"Well?" Loki hissed. Thor stepped lightly and placed the limp Annabell wrapped up into Loki's arms and turned to walk after Rose. Loki pulled her up close to his chest and followed after his brother, her weight was almost nothing to him at this moment. It was odd, his need to have control and connection to Annabell. He never felt this way towards anyone else, but it was what happened when one person is locked with another.

They either kill each other or they become close. Loki could admit to himself that he felt close to Annabell. Nothing else mattered as long as she never left his side. He could leave her all he felt, but she could never betray him. But Loki didn't consider this leaving her; this had been a part of his plan. Loki just happens to forget to tell Annabell about his plot.

As they marched towards the plane, Annabell gasped and her hands snatched at Loki's hair. He flinched and stopped, unnoticed for the moment. Thor turned and saw his brother looking down at Annabell, her hands in his raven hair and her face buried in his neck.

"Loki…" Her voice was garbled like she was underwater.

"That was quiet the water works you created." Loki grinned as Annabell's eyes refused to open but her lips were parted.

"I hurt… everything hurts."

"You should relax now." Loki stated. His feet moved to keep walking after Thor, who watched intensly now that Loki looked at him. Only, Annabell's hands wet to the soft skin on his throat and ran her thumb lightly over his adam's apple.

"I'm not a toy you can play with." Annabell whispered, her voice more hoarse then before. Loki stopped in his tracks and looked down to Annabell who opened her eyes finally and looked him right in the eyes. "Next time…" She trailed off as she gained her breath.

"There won't be a next time-"

"Don't lie to me, Loki!" She hissed, her face full of furry and scrunched up in pain. Her chest heaved as she gasped for breath then glowered harder at Loki, almost to the point he was sure she would have choked him with her bare hands had she had the strength. Her fingers dug into his neck lightly as she demanded he keep her gaze with just her glare. "You will tell me the plan next time, you will never leave me like that again. If you EVER attempt…"

With a gasp for air she clenched her other hand and took a deep breath.

"If you ever attempt to betray my trust again, I will rip every drop of water in your body from your bone dry corpse. Got that?"

For the first time in his life, Loki Laufeyson found himself afraid of another person's revenge. He couldn't care less for Rose's threats of death, or Thor's jail sentence. However, the way Annabell looked at him, attempting to keep air in her lungs and her muscles resisting movement, he knew that she would stop at nothing to keep her promise.

"Noted." He stated.

Then she put her head down against his chest. Her glare gone and her fingers dropped to his chest plates and she let out a small sigh. Loki let out a sigh of relief of his own as he attempted to move further, Thor already on his way towards the two who were practically left behind from the party of Magics. When Loki caught up to his brother, he passed the blonde who watched Loki then Annabell who looked close to death. Her eyes slowly closed as she curled up more into Loki's chest.

"Brother?" Thor asked, he took steps to keep up with the dark haired god.

"Thor, she is exhausted, Magic always comes with a price." Loki practically spit at his brother, never stopping his stride.

"You of all people know that the best." Thor whispered after his brother. Loki ignored the comment but couldn't help but look at Annabell as she drifted further into sleep. The next comment he couldn't ignore. The next comment he pulled the girl into his arms tighter with the anger that boiled under his skin. "Your magic has cost you her."

~X.X~

Annabell pulled her long hair up into a bun of brunette curls, Loki's long fingers placing the clip against her scalp slowly. A smile crept on her face as she looked into the mirror beside the window. Down in the dark of the slowly coming morning, hung Richard on a cross he drug across the pathway, hands and feet tied and yanked by high ranking Magics. He was left to sit in the arena for the day that it took Annabell to recover from her intense conjuring. Not given food or water, his hands tied to the wood and every finger nailed down, his feet tied as well, he was ready for the ritual.

"What happens to him now?" Loki asked with a sickening grin.

"If I didn't know better, I might say you're going to enjoy his punishment more than me." Annabell smirked as she looked to the dark haired man beside her. Loki rolled his eyes with a scoff to go with it as he turned to walk away from the window. Annabell pulled up her silver dress to follow him.

"He was an imbecile." Loki stated as he held the door open for Annabell.

"He is the descendant of a lot of hate. It was bound to happen one with immense power would not be as smart as that family once was. Hate can make us stupid." Annabell looked to Loki and smiled lightly before she ducked out into the hallway. She waited for Loki to shut the door behind them before she turned to him. In her silver gown, and her crown upon her head, it felt like it had all those years ago when her sister and her were first crowned on their 18th birthday. Except, this time, the festivities were surrounding a far more grim celebration.

Richard was to die this day, the moment the sun rose.

"When the sun rises, Rose will light him on fire with a different fire then what you have seen. This is something only she can do. She will rip the magic right from his body, then burn his human body to ash." Annabell spoke and found herself happy about it. A horrible thought, really, she didn't like the idea of someone dying.

But for Richards' crimes there was no other fitting punishment. For the heartbreak he put her through, there was nothing else she wanted more. Her face lightly as she looked to the large wooden doors before the two of them.

"Am I a bad person for wanting him to die?" Annabell spoke in a hush, her head dipped to the side to look at Loki but not fully.

"You are honestly asking me that question?" Loki blurted out with a scoff.

"I trust your opinion, and I need your intelligence." Annabell turned and looked over her shoulder. No one stood in the room, no one in the house. When she found there was no one to see what she did next, she put her left hand around his right and her right hand around his bicep, her face planted against his shoulder.

Loki turned into her hold, placing a hand on the back on her head and put his chin on top of her head.

"This is a first; you actually complimented my obvious genius." Loki chuckled. Annabell tightened her grip around him and pulled her body flush against him. He sighed and pulled back, taking his fingers and pressing them under her chin to lift her eyes.

"You are the shining star of good; you actually make even the most decrepit creature look dazzling and saint like. You alone at my side changed the trust of my brother. Now I know you are an intelligent woman Annabell, do you feel like you want him alive?"

Annabell shook her head against his fingers.

"Then don't doubt yourself." Loki dropped her chin and placed his lips to her forehead without a thought. He turned out of her grip and walked to the door infront of them. Annabell let him go without resistance and stared in concern and a mix of disbelief and honest affection at the man who tugged the door open. "After you," He grinned with that lopsided grin that attacked her heart like a hoard of angry butterflies.

"Thank you, good sir." She grinned back like a cat and rushed to the door.

"I'm absolutely sure that is the first time those words have been uttered in my direction." Loki snickered as he walked behind the brunette out into the lights of torches and dancing campfires. Annabell laughed as she looked to the people before her. It was as if a holiday hit that day, people dancing around fires, food spread out, lots of chatter.

It grew hushed as Annabell stepped closer to the crowd, her head held high. She kept her eyes forward, towards Richard, almost ignoring the people who parted the seas for her to walk through. Loki followed right at her heels as Rose, Fury, Thor, and the cross came within inches of them.

"Sister!" Rose announced and pulled Annabell into her arms. The two of them gripped onto each other in their gowns, Rose's the color of the sun rising up, Annabell's the glint of the moon. Both simple strapless gowns with thin ribbons tied on the right side just underneath their chest, and flowed down to their feet that were bare. Rose wore a very decorative golden crown with a large ruby upon the middle of her forehead. Annabell's more like a tiny flower crown with a blue diamond in the center of her forehead.

"I assume you feel back at full spirits then?" Rose grinned, holding her sister not even an elbow's distance away.

"Yes, Rose, I feel far better than I ever have." The brunette witch smiled to her sister. They embraced once more and Rose smiled more than Fury had seen the blond smile before.

"Then, we must start the circle at once… COME, EVERYONE! TO THE CROSS!"

Richard threw his head up, a look of terror as the mass of people moved from their festivities to the cross. His lips parted as he tried to speak but nothing but air escaped.

Everyone circled around him at a 2 inch space, Fury, Loki, and Thor stood away from the circle but close enough to see and watch. Behind the circle was a large concrete slab that held a staff made from stone right on top. Annabell stood in front of the staff, Rose behind it. A large crystal held in by stone fingers on the staff glittered in the start of the rising sun. Rose placed both her palms on top of the crystal and let out a small breath. Then, just as the sun hits the land enough to give its warmth to the ground, the crystal glows and Rose's head is thrown back. Her whole body grows rigid and the air pressure around the arena grows tense and almost like rock around every person's body. Loki found it harder and harder to move his body just enough to breathe.

That's when Richard began to scream.

He cried out a sound that sounded like a thousand nails on a chalkboard with a mix of dying rabbits. Thor and Loki flinched, but they stopped when the sight of a golden fire that shot from the crystal to Richard. The first swarmed up the cross and lit his entire body on fire with golden, glistening fire. Then, the first shot out from his body and hit every person in the circle. They smiled and threw their heads back collectively.

"What is going on?" Fury snarled, turning his head painfully towards Annabell who smiled softly back to him.

"Magic is like energy, you can't destroy it. But you can change its form, and you can change who has it. Rose is ripping his magic from him, and distributing it to everyone in the form of life."

That's when the fire spread out into Fury as well. He jumped back slightly, leaving Thor and Loki to stand still as it licked up their arms.

It felt like feathers dancing on their skin.

However, just as it hit them, it was gone. But the golden fire stayed on Richard, his flesh beginning to melt off of him.

"Do we have to watch this?" Fury growled.

"You must watch, you started the ceremony, you must finish." Annabell stated. Fury turned to look at the man, his screams still echoing over the sound of a roaring fire. Only then, did the fire double and his flesh was gone, his screams estinguished. His muscles and bones quickly burnt into ash at the ground, the cross the last thing to fall to pieces.

As the crowd loosened their stance and stepped back to open the circle, the air pressure left the arena and everyone turned to Rose at the staff.

She finally slumped against the staff for a moment. The whole world seemed quiet as she stood there motionless.

Then she threw her head up, her hair glittering in the morning sunlight.

She grinned a large grin at her people.

"It's been an early Christmas, my people. Celebrations are in order!"

Cheers roared in everyone's ears.
