It was getting darker and it was starting to snow. Not knowing where Emma was or if she was safe, was driving Regina insane. Ruby had called her a few more times, but no one had seen the young blonde.
Suddenly, Regina saw something in the distance. It looked like Emma's purple backpack. The brunette ran towards it and hugged it close, looking around herself for any sign of her daughter.
A little bit further, a little blonde was laying on the ground, shivering hard. Regina ran towards her, hoping it was Emma.
She turned the little girl towards her and immediately recognized her daughter. Tears of relief streamed down her cheeks.
"Emma? My darling, wake up." Regina said sweetly, but the child didn't move. Fear crept over Regina once more. Why wasn't Emma reacting? Why wasn't she waking up?
She pulled out her phone and called an ambulance, explaining where they were. After hanging up, she called Dr. Whale to request his assistance with Emma, when they arrived at the hospital.
The ambulance arrived and helped Regina carry Emma in. One of the paramedics was checking Emma, while they drove back to the hospital.
"What happened to her? Why isn't she waking up?" Regina asked the paramedic franticly.
"You're daughter lost consciousness, due to the low temperature. She's going to be all right, we just need her temperature to stabilize. I think she'll be able to go home again tomorrow."
Regina sighed relieved. This was all her fault. She should have explained everything to Emma better and nothing would have happened to her. She grabbed Emma's hand and thanked whatever power had kept her little girl safe.
Her phone rang. "Regina, I'm sorry. I still haven't heard anything." Ruby sounded depressed and scared. She was just as worried as Regina was about the little girl's safety.
"I found her, Ruby. She was unconscious, due to the temperature, but Dr. Whale said she'd be able to go home tomorrow. Thank you for helping me find her." Regina explained to Ruby what happened since her last call and the other brunette sighed relieved.
"Thank god, you found her, Regina. I'll call everyone to tell them and I'll be over as soon as I can." Regina thanked Ruby once more. After hanging up, she sat down in the chair next to Emma's bed and waited for her to wake up.
Emma was starting to open her eyes, slowly. Regina smiled softly and sat down next to her daughter on the bed. "Hey, baby."
"Mommy?" The child's voice sounded tired, scared and sad, making Regina's heart clench.
"Yes, baby, Mommy's right here. You're safe." Regina leaned forward and kissed her daughter's forehead.
A tear rolled down Emma's cheek. "Please, don't send me back?" It broke Regina's heart to hear those words. She shook her head, tears rolling down her own cheeks too.
"No, baby. You're my daughter and I'm never going to leave you. Not even for this baby. He or she will be your little brother or sister, but that is not going to make you any less my daughter. I love you, sweetheart." Regina explained.
Emma nodded understandingly. "I love you too, Mommy. Will you hold me, please?"
Regina smiled a little and nodded, laying down next to the blonde and pulling her as close as possible.
That's how Ruby found them, both asleep, Emma half on top of Regina. They both had a smile on their face. As she sat down in Regina's previous seat, the older brunette woke up.
"Hi," she whispered. Ruby smiled and took Regina's hand, careful not to wake Emma.
"How is she?" Ruby whispered back.
"She's fine. She was cold and scared, but it's better now. She'll be able to go home soon though." Regina explained.
"Good. How about you? How are you feeling?" Ruby continued to question.
"I'm happy I found her. I explained everything to her and she understands it now. I'm a little tired though." Regina said, yawning.
"I'll let you sleep then. I'll be here tomorrow to take you and Emma home, okay?" Regina nodded gratefully and they shared a quick kiss, before Ruby left.
Everything's fine, Regina thought, Emma's safe and I've got the family I've always wanted. She looked down at her daughter and smiled. She kissed the blonde's forehead and fell asleep, holding her close.
