I didn't realize how long I hadn't updated until today, I'm sorry for the long wait!
Disclaimer: I do not own The Hobbit or any of it's characters. I only own my OC's
I clutched my brother closer to me. The Dragon took out most of the Guards with its fire, and broke the walls so that it could get inside.
I could only watch in horror as the pillar we were all behind collapsed. I jumped out of the way just in time to not get crushed. I glanced around to search for my mother, but couldn't see her though all the chaos and I knew shouting out to her wouldn't help.
Luckily my sister was still with me. Somehow she was always there when I needed her most.
We all looked up to see the Dragon making it's way past us. I could feel my brother burying his face into my shoulder and cry. I soothingly rubbed his back to calm him down.
Now we had the chance to escape, with the Dragon deeper into the mountain we all ran out from where the front gate used to be. While running I saw a familiar figure.
"Father!" I ran over to him and threw my arm which wasn't carrying my brother over his shoulder. I was so grateful that he hadn't died inside the mountain.
"Thank goodness you're safe," He returned the hug, then moved to hug my sister "Where is your mother?"
My sister pulled away from him "W-we don't know, we got separated inside the mountain"
My father made a move to go back into the mountain but I held him back "Father, no! You can't go back in there, you could die. Mother might already be out here somewhere, we have to go search for her"
My father sighed, but nodded his head. The three of us broke into a run and started to make our way away from Erebor.
Somebody stopped in front of me and I almost ran right into sister and I stopped right before him.
I was about to tell him to watch where he was going, but I noticed who he was. It was Prince Thorin, who was looking over to the distance. I followed his gaze and saw an army of Elves standing there.
Without thinking I shouted "Help us! Please!"
Thorin glanced at me, as if only now noticing I was there, and then too joined in calling for help from the Elves and my sister was quick to shout too. I saw their King, Thranduil, turn around and so did his Elves. Then they all left.
I felt something twist in my heart. Hatred. I felt my eyes tear up and I turned to Thorin, who's face was a mixture of surprise, shock and anger. He turned to me and must have seen the tears in my eyes, for his eyes softened and he took me and my sister by our arms and led us away from Erebor.
From this day forward I would forever hate Elves, for their cowardice and selfishness.
Thorin turned towards me "Lexi,"
I frowned. His voice was suddenly high, like a teenage girl. Thorin called my name again. For some reason, an image of Thorin in a dress with a crown and wand popped into my head and it took all my willpower not to laugh out loud.
"LEXI!"
I shot up screaming "I'M SORRY THORIN BUT YOU LOOKED GOOD IN THAT DRESS!"
I could hear howls of laughter and I opened my eyes to see most of the Dwarves rolling on the floor clutching their stomachs, Freya and Fili were the worst, who were right in front of me. Even Dwalin was laughing. His laugh booming across the room. Although Thorin was giving me a death glare, which made me realise what I had said out loud.
I smiled guiltily at him "What? You should feel honoured. Not every man can look good in a dress."
He just glared at me more, before storming off. Although, I could have sworn I saw the corners of his lips twitch upwards.
I thought back to my dream. I could remember my first night in Middle Earth, and the dream that seemed to be the first half of the one I had just now. It had been weeks since I had first come to Middle Earth, but it strangely felt like I had been here my whole life.
I could feel myself slowly changing. Slowly becoming a part of this world and all it's people. And I was afraid. I was afraid that by the time I got the chance to return home, I wouldn't want to leave.
We joined Lord Elrond for breakfast. Thankfully there were no food fights this time. We managed to finish our breakfast without anybody insulting the Elves. I believe they should have earned medals for that.
Later some of us found ourselves outside in a field. Some of us meaning Freya, Bifur, Dwalin, Ori and I. Freya had persuaded (threatened) the others into making flower crowns with her, for there were many wild daisies on the field. I wasn't sure how to process the fact that she had roped Dwalin into it, and he was currently sat next to her scowling with a crown on top of his head.
Somehow, seeing him with a bunch of daisies on his head and a scowl on his face made him seem even more threatening, but Freya took no notice of it. I was sat next to Ori, who was sketching Dwalin with his new hair accessory and I was going to ask him to make another copy of it so that I could use it against Dwalin in the future.
Freya, Dwalin and Bifur had made enough crowns for everyone in the company, even Gandalf. I decided to be nice for once and save the Dwarves from their misery by saying "Hey Freya, want to test out our new swords and see how bad we are at it?"
This caught her attention and she looked up at me, eagerly nodding her head in agreement. We had both taken our swords out with us so that we could test them, and now seemed like a good time to do that. It also caught the attention of the others, who had never seen us fight before.
We got up and moved a away from the others so that they couldn't get in our way, and we stood across from each other in our 'battle stances' as Freya so kindly put it.
"I have no idea what we're doing, so I'm just going to go with the flow" Freya stated. Not even a second later she lunged at me. I instinctively brought up my sword and both of our swords clashed. The sound of metal going against each other rung out in the almost empty field.
I pushed her sword off of mine and swung mine towards her side, which she quickly blocked. She swung at me again, but I skilfully twirled out of the way and came up behind her. I was about to bring my sword up to the back of the neck, but she had spun around and had once again deflected my strike.
We continued this for what felt like ours, both of us being too stubborn to let the other win. I saw an opportunity come up and I didn't hesitate to take it.
As Freya took a step back from blocking another hit from me, I quickly launched myself at her, knocking her onto the floor, she didn't have any time to react. She had dropped her sword in surprise and it clattered onto the floor.
I had barely taken two steps towards her, ready to take my victory when suddenly her foot collided into my stomach in a well aimed kick. The force of the kick was enough to force me into releasing the grip on my sword and send me reeling backwards.
Freya was up on her feet like lightening, her sword back in her own hand, and she darted out to grab my sword. I didn't even have the chance to reach out to get it before she did because Freya had already picked it up. I had a sinking feeling that I was just about to lose our match.
But I was both shocked and surprised when I saw smoke emitting from Freya's hand, the one holding my sword. She let out a painful yelp and let go of my sword. My hand shot out to catch it by it's hilt and in a matter of seconds my sword was being held against her neck.
Freya stared at me in disbelief. At first I thought she was going to insult me over my victory, but instead she said "Your bloody sword almost burnt my hand off!"
I shrugged, lowering my sword. "Maybe it's just a thing it can do, maybe I'm the only one who can hold it properly"
Freya grinned, forgetting about her injured hand "That's so cool! Do you think mine does that too? That way we won't how to watch out for Nori's thieving little hands all the time!"
"Hey!" I heard a voice protest. Freya and I turned to see that the Dwarves had all come down onto the field, and had probably seen most of our fight.
It turned out I was right as most of the Dwarves started congratulating me on my victory. A thought came to me and I frowned, turning to Freya and whispering "I thought you said you couldn't fight"
"I can't-" She paused "Oh my god, I couldn't fight before, but now I'm like some Kung-Fu ninja dude! And did you see that kick?"
"I bloody felt that kick" I muttered darkly
She grinned at me. Then her face lit up in excitement "Oh! I can give everybody their crowns now"
Freya gathered the flower crowns up in the hand that wasn't injured, and gracefully skipped around the Dwarves, placing a crown on top of each of their heads. She even gave one to me and Bilbo. Oh joy.
Thorin was the only one who refused to put the crown on, and Freya obviously wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"Thorin Oakenshield! Dwalin had put a lot of effort into making this crown for you, so you're either going to put it on or I'll be shoving it down your throat and you'll be coughing up flower petals into next week!" I heard her should
Dwalin's face turned red from embarrassment as he glared at the back of Freya's head. A few of the Dwarves (Also known as Fili and Kili) were teasing a now angry Dwalin, and I had a feeling that they would regret it later.
A deep sigh caught my attention, and I turned to see Thorin putting his flower crown onto his head while muttering under his breath.
"Awh Thorin, your inner princess is showing!" I said cheerfully. Thorin shot me a glare, before stalking off away from us.
We all stayed out in the field until dinner was ready. Eventually Thorin came back and joined us. Kili and Fili got beaten up by Dwalin for their constant teasing (Which looked terrifying as Dwalin still wore that damn flower crown on his shinny head) and apart from that, we had a peaceful morning.
It was sometime after dinner, and we were all cooped up inside now after almost destroying the kitchen which we had decided to raid for food. The dwarves weren't very happy with the food we were being given so they went in search for their own. Obviously, I tagged along with them, not wanting to miss out on the chaos I knew was going to happen.
And chaos did happen as I predicted it would. Somebody had accidently set fire to the kitchen and it went up in flames. What I hadn't predicted, was that it was going to be me who set fire to the kitchen. But for the sake of what little I have left of my dignity, I won't be going into details as to how I started the fire.
Naturally, Kili and Fili got the blame and they were currently receiving a lecture from Thorin and Gandalf on why they shouldn't be 'playing with fire'. I knew I probably should have owned up to what I did, but what they don't know can't hurt them.
Anyone could clearly see the Gandalf was angry with them, but with Thorin was different. Even though he had the usual emotionless look upon his face, I could see how proud he was just by looking at his eyes.
When Gandalf had finished shouting t Fili and Kili, the Durin brothers made their way over to where Freya, Ori, Bilbo and I were sitting. It seemed that the six of us had our own small group. Although Ori didn't hang out with us as much since he mostly stuck by his older brother Dori's side. I was wondering whether to let Ori in on our secret as I felt like it wasn't really fair that we would have to be secretive around him, but things would be easier if only a few members of the company knew the truth. Ori could easily slip up and tell his brothers everything, not that his brothers could believe him or anything.
Even before the brothers had sat down with us, I knew something was off. They kept sharing worried looks with each other, and were being quiet for once in their lives.
Just as they sat down, I immediately asked "What's wrong?" catching the attention of the other three.
Fili shook his head "There's nothing-"
He was cut off by Freya, who was resting her head on Bilbo's lap and had her legs propped up on Ori's "You might as well give it up now, Lexi's good with seeing other people's emotions."
The Durin brothers shared a look, then Kili spoke up "We're worried about our Uncle"
Bilbo crinkled his nose up in confusion "Worried? What for? Thorin is a strong Dwarf, he can take care of himself"
Kili sighed "Yes I know that, but there's just one thing that even Thorin would struggle with," he hesitated for a moment "we're worried that after we reclaim Erebor, he may fall to the gold sickness."
Ori gasped, and I had a feeling he knew what this gold sickness was about. I saw Freya sitting up, a frown was etched onto her face. I had a feeling that she remembered hearing the name before, but couldn't remember what it was. Whatever this sickness was, it didn't sound very good.
"The gold sickness? What on Middle Earth is that?" Bilbo asked, voicing the question that was on my mind.
This time it was Fili who spoke "The gold sickness is a mental disease that for some reason most of the Durin line is vulnerable to. It's like we get a obsessive lust for gold. Our great-grandfather fell to it when he was ruling Erebor"
Freya nodded sympathetically "I usually get something like that too, but instead of it being for gold, it's for chocolate"
Our laughter could be heard across the room, and caught the attention of most of the Dwarves. I saw some of them smiling fondly at us, and I had a feeling not all of them saw us as adults just yet.
Freya put her hands on her hips and looked at us with an unimpressed look written across her face. If you looked hard enough, you could see she was trying not to smile. "I wasn't joking you know." She said
"How is it that whenever we're upset or caught in a serious situation, you go ahead and say something like that?" Kili shook his head, his shoulders still shook with laughter.
She flipped her hair over her shoulder dramatically, "I guess I'm just that awesome" she said, then sauntered away from us and over to Bofur, Bombur and Bifur.
I'll put up the next chapter as soon as I can,
Have a nice day!
