A Little Talk With The Prince
"Don't you have something you want to say to me?" Kuran Kaname asks the girl in his arms in very slow voice, like whisper, yet sounds firm. "Nina?"
He can hear the heart beat of her is getting faster since she was sunk in his arms. Now the beat is getting slower, but a lot much deeper as if it will explode soon if he pushes her too far. Kaname doesn t want it to happen. He won t let it.
"No, I don t think I have." He bet that girl s face is now blushing as red as rose, so he turns around, traps her on the other side of sofa, where there is no escape for the girl, with still holding her carefully.
Don't get too excited, he does it very slowly. He never forget how Nina s body is so slim; her shoulders, arms, waist, even legs. The whole her is so small and frails as if it will torn into pieces if he let even his littlest strength on her. Now the girl is below him, traps her between his arms, make her smaller than she actually is. Kaname stares at her as intensive as ever, tries to find her weakness. Her heart beat is getting faster again. But her face doesn t blush like he expected. She stares back at him fearlessly. It is so irritates him.
"I don't think you have as well. I'm just teasing you." Kaname s gaze moves to Nina s right arm. He takes it and lift it to the air.
Now she is in fear. What are you going to do? Nina asked fearfully.
"Your wounds..." he simply said. He exposes her bare arm. The illusion he used to veil the scars on her body is still on its place, makes her arms only have one wound on its upper arm.
Kaname removes the bandages on it, sees the wounds which is still fresh there. This girl s healing ability is slower even among the humans. Then the smell of her blood strikes his senses. Instinctively, his body would tries to find the source of the smell, and it would makes his eyes turns red. He doesn't want her to see such hunger of his face. Not now.
"I'm sorry I made you feel this pain again," he said before lean closer and kisses the wound, heals it.
While Kaname heals and doesn t put any notice on her, Nina blushes. She never thought Kaname will do something that far. Then she remembered about her previous word against him, about she wanted to stand against him if he didn't stopped the investigation. She never expected Kaname would really stops the investigations. It would very rude if she doesn t say anything as if she never knew any of it.
"Thank you."
Not long after it, Kaname done healed her arms. Then he stares at her. "It is nothing."
"It s not for the wound..." She starts to blush again. "I mean... not only for it. It is more likely for... the investigation. Thanks for stopping it."
"Is that so?"
Nina used to expect she will get something more than it s that so... from him, but she could never ask for more. It is already enough. Kaname never wanted to mention anything about what he had done, no matter how bad or good it is. He always hide everything from everyone, including her.
"Hey, you don t have to go that far!" Nina snapped when Kaname leans to her feet. And removes the bandages on it. But no matter how many times she snaps, Kaname never stopped.
After Kaname done healing, Nina can only pouts. "Kaname, you don't have—
She stops immediately when Kuran Kaname stares at her with such a gaze, a gaze that hurt Nina so much. The sad face he always made to silence her. And it success again now, for uncountable times. He strokes her cheeks gently, plays with her short hair.
"If you weren't back to this bloody world, you won't be hurt like this..." His hand moves to Nina's head, like the last time he wants to erased her memories.
Nina knows it and quickly reaches his hand, grabs it tightly. Don t do it. Her voice sounds shivered. She stares at him with sad eyes, as if she is about going to cry. Kaname freezes. Then her other hand reaches out of him, caresses his cheeks as gently as him. I don t want to let you alone again.
Kaname silents. He doesn t know what to say if she says it.
"This is my world... our world, Kaname." She smiles, her voice sounds unwavering as usual. Besides... no matter how many times you erased my memories, I m sure I will find my way to you... This time, Nina pulls Kaname closer to her until their forehead meet and they can feels each other s breath on their skin. Nina closes her eyes, her fingers sink on the depths of Kaname s soft hair, enjoys time like this when nothing can break them apart. "Don t you remember, I already said I will protect you this time. I mean it, Kaname, every words of it."
When Nina opens her eyes, the first and the only thing she sees is the sad face of Kaname. The face which only her could read, the anxiety face as if he had heard the most fearful things for him. But then his face turns into the cold face he always uses as a mask.
In sudden move, Kaname moves their body upside down. Now Nina get trapped below him while he is sitting right next to her on the sofa. Both his hand exactly traps her both left and right. Now she even looks smaller than before. Her face seems surprised and blush a little uncontrolably. Her heart beat faster, makes Kaname moves his gaze to her exposed neck. Fortunately he can still control it and focused on her eyes.
He curls his fingers around Nina's black hair, feel the softness of it while stating at her intensively. His stare always makes her tense a bit, even now. "What a powerless girl like you can do?"
Now Nina seems get annoyed. "Powerless... huh?"
Kaname's hand keep playing with her hair until the hand finally falls upon Nina's soft cheeks, caresses it very carefully. "You are indeed powerless, compare to me and the rest of vampires." he said. "You can die here instantly right now if this..." His hand which caressing Nina's cheeks slowly falls on her chest, right above her fast-beating heart, "stop beating."
As if this is not enough, Kaname closes distance between them, stick his forehead with her, feeling her rage breath on his face. Then he opens his eyes, stares at her eyes which look like had devoured the entire him already. Now he feels as if he is in a place where it covered by bottomless darkness where no one can see his weak side and he is free to say anything here.
"How long I can be close to you like this, Nina?" he murmured but it could be heard by her. "How long we will last like this until your heart stops beating?"
For Nina, this is her first time of being speechless. "Kaname..."
"Human are such frail and weak beings. Before I could realized, you will already have gone. That is our dirrefence..."
Before he can continue, Nina locks his lips with kiss. His eyes opened in surprise but he doesn't give any resistence. Instead, he closes his eyes and let Nina pulls him closer, deepening the kiss. Few times later, Nina finally releases him, searching for air to breath. Her eyes now shimmering in tears.
Her lips trembling as if hold something on tip of her tounge, but until the end she never says anything. Kaname, doesn't want to watch her sad more than this, finally pull himself off of her. But not makes some distances from her. Instead, he falls his head to her chest and lays on there, listen to her heart fast beating.
"Don't move. I'm tired." he commanded her.
Nina doesn't even say a thing. She let him rest on her. As a respond of her sincerity, she strokes his hair gently. Embraces him.
"I'm sorry, Kaname." she whispered. Finally be able to say something. "May be you are right. May be I will leave you as soon as this body reach its limit. When that time comes, even I don't want to imagine what will happen to you, but Kaname, I have promised. I will protect you... as long as I'm living." But by the time she spoke, her tears burst out.
Kaname who can smell her tears, slowly wakes up. And sees her crying. With his thumb, he wipes out the tears but Nina grasps his hand. Stops him. Kaname let her be because Nina leans to his hand as if her life depends on it.
"You... know that my plan may be can change our position, don't you?" he said.
Nina stops cry but her tears still blurs her vision. "I don't know..."
Silence, Kaname's gaze falls upon her exposed neck. Something boils inside his body. The heat creeps up, reaches his throat, burns it inside with unbearable thirst.
By the time his fingers dances on her exposed neck reflexively, Nina stares at him with unbelievable eyes. And when Kaname moves closer to her neck, licks it, her body tense a bit.
"Kaname?" she chocked out.
Hear and feel the fear of her, Kaname pull off, shows his beast side to her with no single hesitation anymore. Now his vision change. He sees nothing on Nina but her blood veins from the top of her hair until the beating vein on her neck and her beating heart. But as usual, as soon as Nina understand, her fear gone.
He strokes her cheeks gently once again, using the hand Nina still grabs with. "You know there is a way for us to be together longer..."
Nina says nothing but listen to what he said.
"Please live eternally with me, Nina." The most feared thing she never wanted to heard, finally out of his mouth. "Will you be a vampire like me? Become a beast who drink blood from humans to keep living for a long time without even aging and be with me in the night where there is no sun hurt your eyes?"
Until the very end, Nina never averted her eyes from him. But in the same time, she never says anything. Just stares at each other. She think she will never make it to says the truth with her mouth. And she knows Kaname only wants to tease her now, because Kaname is not stupid. He most likely knows that if he turns her into a vampire, Nina could never make it. Not with her condition, no matter if it is in past, present, or future. But as a vampire, there must be that wish in his heart, although he already knew the risks. That is why she thinks it will be the right time to tell it to Kaname.
In this quietness, Kaname understands the answer behind Nina's silence, the answer lies within those eyes of her, and behind that faint smile on her lips.
"Why?" he asked, half dissapointed.
Instead of answer, she lifts her arm and wraps it around Kaname's neck. Pulls him. Her power actually not enough to pull Kaname to get closer to her. It is Kaname who willingly being pulled by her so they can be one again. By his surprise, Nina places his face very close to her neck.
Gently, she whispers to his ear. "Ask my blood."
His hands grab the soft surface of sofa. Trying until the last energy of him not to take her blood again. But he had held his beast for long time. Unable to control the thirst he hold for years, Kaname, undoubtedly, pierce her neck with his fangs.
The girl below him tense and arches her back due to the pain. She grabs his coat and greeted her teeth to keep the painful voice shut in her throat. Gently, she pushes Kaname, makes him sinks his fangs even deeper to her neck.
"I am fine, Kaname." she said reassuringly. "Go ahead. You... have held... for too long."
Slowly she feels Kaname prey to her heart, to the part where it happened long ago.

Flashback
In living room, those three children of Kiryuu are having their time together. The youngest, the only girl in siblings, looks very happy for her eldest brother plays and spend his time with her since he always busy with training with their parents. But it does not mean she bored with her second brother. She loves them both and glad to see them together. They are twins after all, nothing happier for them but being together, just like when they were in their mother's womb.
"Nee... Nii-san?" The youngest asked to her brothers.
The twins approach her with full attention. When they are by her sides, the youngest looks at them by turn.
"What is it, Nina?" asked the second twin.
"Ichiru nii-san, Zero nii-san, you both will become hunter someday..." she said with sadden face.
"You will be one too someday." The eldest son, Zero, reassuring her with strokes her silver hair, worries if what she will say is the same thing that girl always be anxiety about.
"It is not like that." she pouted.
"Then what is it?" asked the second son, Ichiru, again.
"If you both become vampire hunters... someday you will face strong vampire... may be pureblood." Now the twin listen carefully. Not even talks. "If one of you turned into..." she gulps nervously.
"Vampire... isn't it, Nina?" Ichiru continued her sentence.
The youngest, Nina, shyly nods. Afraid the answer she will get if she ask them bluntly. Now her fear becomes reality with the silence of her brothers.
"The answer is clear, isn't it? Since the beginning..." Zero said. He takes a deep breath. "Kill it, no matter what."
Ichiru quickly closes Nina's ears. "Zero, don't say something like that!" he hissed to his twin. "At least don't say it with such cold expression!"
Out of expected, Nina let go of her brother's hands. "It is okay, nii-san." she said reassuringly.
Zero takes a deep breath once again. Then he faces Ichiru, looks at him with a gaze Nina could never understand. As if they are talking each other within their mind. She doesn't know. May be twins could do something like that. Then their eyes fall to her, both of them.
"Do you want to promise us, Nina?" Zero asked.
Nina blinks her eyes. Confused. "What promise, nii-san?"
Zero stares at her as if trying to keep her strong to hear what he will say later. "If one of us turn into vampire... we must kill it, no matter who it is. Promise?"
"NO!" Nina screamed suddenly. Crying. "If it happen to nii-san... I don't want to kill nii-san!"
"That is a big promise, Zero." Ichiru said. Nina turns to him, see him gloomy. "Can you accomplish it when it becomes reality, nii-san?"
"Of course." Zero said. Hias eyes full of unwavering desire. "Can you, Ichiru?"
"I can, but for Nina..." Ichiru embraces her youngest sister. "it is a great burden for her to take, don't you think?"
"No. Nii-san will leave me again! No!" Nina screamed within her heart.
"Then promise too," Nina shouted and grabs Zero's hand. She had made a decision. "Promise me too that you will not turn into a vampire! None of you will, nii-san! I'm begging you!" she cries saddenly.
Zero smiles reassuringly and kisses her cheek. "I promise, Nina." he whispered to her. Then he stares at Ichiru. "Then we have a deal. None of us will become a vampire, if someone turned into..." Zero chooses words carefully. "we have to do what we have to do as a vampire hunter, no matter if one of us real hunter or not, deal?"
"Deal." Ichiru said, glad Zero avoid the word 'kill' this time.
After thinks for a long time, finally Nina said in very low voice. "Deal."
Flashback end

Kaname pulls himself off of Nina. Only to see the girl's unwavering eyes. Her decision which has been made long time ago can not be changed, not even now.
The pureblood prince feel a pang of agony hit him cruelly, know that the girl in his arms choose someone else over him. His egoist side resists, doesn't care if someone she chose over was her biological brother and their long time promise.
Nina lift her right arm. "It is not like I am afraid of death..." she touches his lips, wipes the remaining blood around there. Kaname agreed in silence. He knows how fearless her to death. "It is because I want to keep promise I made with them, no matter if both of them dead already or not, besides..."
"Besides?" Kaname demanded an answer.
"No, it is nothing." She keep wiping the remaining blood of her in Kaname lips. That pureblood responds by licking her fingers which are wet by blood. He grasps her hand and lick the blood clean while closing his eyes. Enjoys the taste.
When they look at each other again, both of them freeze as if time has stopped.
Suddenly Kaname kisses her again, even deeper this time. Nina can taste the bitter taste of her own blood between their kisses. She tries not to reject it. She holds all her desire to reject inside, not letting Kaname realizes it. Unlike usual, Kaname moves first. He slips his hand to her hair, grasps some of it and pulls her, deepening the kiss. Nina follows it, hopes it will last longer.
Without she even knew, it will be their last meeting in peace before the storms come approach her and the people she love.
