Author's Notes:
I don't know what happened with fanfiction but for some reason it's completely messed-up when I try to upload a chapter… It's probably me, my computer's legally obsolete now (I have Windows XP… Long story)
I… I don't really know how to say this, since this isn't really the place to be doing so, but if I was thinking rationally I wouldn't be writing this or even posting this at all… I guess I'm just looking to distract myself for a few seconds or however long it takes me to place this.
Update… Yay… Don't know what day it is and, for the last month, I haven't really cared. I haven't even had time to care.
You've probably heard something by now (or not) but, the place I currently reside in (against my will) is in a war.
I am in Venezuela right now and, for the past month, things have been going from downhill to a straight freefall. Things here are horrible and they're only getting worse.
Those are the 'problems' I've been having since the last time I posted. You'll be glad to know that by the time I post this I am still alive and will plan to be so until I can get back to Italy (hopefully it won't take long)
For obvious reasons, I haven't written a damn thing. This chapter was already written, which is why I have the luxury of posting it right now.
If you're wondering… I can't leave the place… Not yet… There are problems everywhere and the airlines are obviously pulling their planes from here and cancelling connections and whatnot. I heard of a New Zealand kid that couldn't go back to his country because everything was stolen from him and he was residing at the airport… I wish I could have helped him, but I'm too far from the airport to do so and, if I could even manage to get there, he'd be probably gone by the time I got there… I hope he's ok… (as they say here, 'at least he's still alive')
I've mentioned several times about being alive and I am serious about it. People are indiscriminately getting murdered here by both police and gang bikers. Both got dangerously close to this place twice already and I've heard what could either be gunshots or random detonations. I can't distinguish.
I don't know why I'm writing any of this, but I guess if I did, I wouldn't be writing it… I dunno… I stopped trying to think about what to do for a while now because my head hasn't stopped hurting. I guess I don't really need a reason. I just want to and, even if it is a very small thing, I'm glad I'm able to do it.
I think I've said enough already. If I've made you concerned, I'm sorry, I really am. I just needed to let you know…
I'll see you soon.
Enjoy.

The sound of sand crunching against heels could be heard despite the low murmurs of the people chatting not too far from where they were. Natya eyed Zelda, eyes narrowing every now and again whenever she detailed something about her. Whatever that something was, Zelda didn't know. They stood at the outskirts of the poor districts, where Link had taught her how to shoot a bow and arrow; Natya had decided that this would be the best place to teach her anything since it had most of Link's training tools scattered about. She had even picked up a long, wooden stick which she carried over her shoulder as she examined Zelda. Finally, Natya stopped rounding Zelda and crossed her arms "Well, this isn't going to be easy" she stated.
Zelda frowned at her statement "What's wrong?" she asked, feeling uncomfortable in the clothes she had been given. It was nothing she hadn't seen before; she wore brown shorts -much like Natya's-, a white poet shirt with a black ribbon on the neck which Natya so blatantly insisted she wore, and heels. Zelda was absolutely against the last bit of her clothing given that it didn't match her clothes and made her uncomfortable, but Natya had stated a really good point about them. If Zelda wanted to fight, she would have to use what was available to her and her most used piece of clothing were always going to be heels. She would have to learn to run, jump, kick and even use them as weapons.
"Well… For once, you're standing wrong" she said, hitting Zelda slightly on the back with the stick and causing her to both yelp and straighten up.
"Is that really necessary?" Zelda asked, rubbing where the stick had hit her. She was already disliking this decision way too quickly.
"It sort of is…" Natya said somewhat apologetically as she stared at the stick "It takes years to learn what our mothers taught us and… Well, discipline is the best tool to learn early" she explained and gave Zelda a smile "This is why Link refused to be involved in any way" her smile turned into a smirk, which made Zelda blush slightly "Now, let's see how you walk"
Zelda looked down at the missing stone ground. The dirt underneath her felt uneven and she doubted she could get two steps across without wobbling down. Nevertheless, she tried to take the first step, only to be smacked on the leg by Natya's stick "Ow!"
"If you think you're going to fall, then you're going to fall" she said, swinging the stick on her shoulder "Those heels are going to be a part of you so consider them your new feet. So practice to walk as if those heels had never left your feet for one day in your life" Zelda listened intently. She had truly no idea how she could convince herself to walk in a pair of shoes that made her feel so uncomfortable. She let out a breath and slowly placed one foot in front of her, testing the ground before she made a second attempt. After feeling secure she carefully took another and repeated the process.
Slowly, Zelda began to take her steps until she could walk a straight line without wobbling and gave Natya a smile after she realized this "I did it!"
"Good" smiled Natya "Now run" she said, pointing the stick towards the protecting wall.
Zelda stared at the vertical division in disbelief, her feet were already worn from having to practice walking and she was beginning to lose balance "I can't run!" she complained, only to receive a disapproving look from Natya.
"Guess it's the stick then!" she said and began to swing the stick at her, making Zelda panic and stumble towards the wall before Natya got to her. Zelda managed a few steps before falling to her knees and scraping herself; she received a smack on her legs as she remained on the floor.
"Natya!"
"Get up or I'll do it again!" she cheerily announced, ready with stick in hand to keep to her promise. Zelda stood once more and tried running. After a few more falls Zelda managed to keep herself in balance as she made small runs towards the wall, managing to keep Natya from hitting her. She watched in satisfaction as Natya stood by and let her pace herself, but soon the pressure coming from the balls of her feet became too much to bear and Zelda stopped her activities and sat down on the floor, taking the shoes off as quickly as possible. She checked her feet and, just as she feared, saw that they were blistered and bloodied, almost begging her to never walk again "You did pretty good for your first day" Natya complimented, helping Zelda to her feet.
"I don't think I did any improvement… I won't be able to walk for a bit…" she said, flinching when her feet made solid contact with the ground. Natya slid an arm behind her waist to help her walk.
"We'll be doing other things so you rest up and when you're ready we'll keep trying" although Natya's comment was meant to sound cheerful, it had only made Zelda feel worse about having to return to high heels again.

Night almost fell as Natya and Zelda made their long and painful walk back to the palace. They opened the doors to a very unusual atmosphere; the courtesans were in an unnatural foul mood and there were screams and curses coming from the kitchen. They made their way as fast as they could to find a courtesan lying on the floor, back arched forward as she gripped her head in every way possible and screamed, tears running freely down her face. Zelda saw Link kneeling down with her along with Thea, trying to give comforting words and soothing her as best they could while several other courtesans paced about the room in anger, some arguing loudly and some cursing to the heavens.
"What happened?" Natya asked, breaking the line of behavior of most of the courtesans. Navi timidly came from the sea of angered women in answer to Natya.
"There were five this time…" she said, lowering her head "I came running as soon as I saw"
Natya's grip on Zelda disappeared as the news sank in, she looked down on the crying courtesan and figured she must have known at least one of them "What's going on?" asked Zelda, completely confused about the event.
"They killed more courtesans" said Natya, devoid of emotion.
"What!? How? Who?" pressed Zelda, but Natya had stopped speaking, adopting almost the same attitude as the rest of the girls.
"They left a message… Said they'll kill more if we don't come clean…" said Navi, somewhat afraid of getting more negative reactions.
"We have been threatened before, this won't work" said Thea, standing from her crouching position and immediately capturing the attention of the entire palace "They want to murder us? They'll take a while. From now on, no courtesan goes alone, not even in broad daylight. I want groups of five to mobilize at the same time and if necessary, carry a non-Gerudo with you. They'd be damned if they killed the wrong girl" she stated, the other girls nodded "Now if you would please scatter, there's still work to do and I will not have you showing anyone that this has affected us" she turned to the crying girl on the floor "Someone give her a drink, we need to get her mind out of it" Thea motioned to Maya, calling for the strongest drink the cook had in the kitchen. Maya gave her a doubtful look but complied anyways, bringing a clear liquid on a small glass to the table near the girl as Link helped her up and sat her on the chair.
Several other courtesans decided to change their moods the same way as they sat, ordering several other drinks from the tall woman as she returned to the kitchen area to fetch their orders.
"I think I'll have some too…" said Navi as she stared at the clear drink.
Natya gave her a doubtful look "That's pretty strong, maybe you should stick to wine"
"I think I could handle it… I don't feel too good either…" she sat at a nearby table. Natya, Zelda and Navi watched as Thea sat herself on a table, as arched as if she were queen herself, and ordered a small glass of the same clear liquid, running her finger around the rim and deep in thought.
"She seems pretty angry… Calling for a drink is unusual for her…" commented Navi. She soon decided said drink was too much for her and ordered the wine instead.
"I don't blame her" said Natya, sitting on the other side of the table "I could use a drink too… No one had been so direct as to kill five in one go… Maybe she's thinking about how she should handle this and, to be honest, I wouldn't like to be in her shoes right now" she said as Maya approached her.
"Will you be having the 'White Goron' as well?" Maya asked, which made Natya laugh.
"Oh I won't be having that, it'll kill me. I'll have some wine please" she said rather cheery, which earned her a stare from Navi.
Zelda watched as other courtesans agreed to help Maya serve the drinks while several others sat down on a table as well. Link had been standing by the devastated girl the entire time but now he was debating on whether he should sit down or not and finally, he looked at her before going to a table closest to the kitchen. She followed after him "You're going to drink too?"
"It's been a long day" he stated, making sure that she sat down first.
"It's been a hard day too…" she said, trying to lighten the mood. Or his mood, at least "Maybe I should have that drink" said Zelda as she looked at Maya arrive shortly after with a small glass full of the clear alcohol for him.
"No" stated Link quickly.
Zelda suddenly felt offended and crossed her arms "Why not?"
"This is Goron vodka. It's the strongest drink available" he revealed, raising the glass so she could take a better look at it.
"So? It's not as if I hadn't drank acohol before" she said stubbornly.
"Not like this" he insisted.
"How are you so sure?" she raised her head "Do you know how many people I've had to drown in champagne before I even faked a smile?" Link laughed slightly at her statement, making Zelda unsure if she should feel offended at that or not.
"Those are not strong compared to this one"
"Are you saying I can't handle it?" she asked him daringly.
"Exactly" he confirmed. He snatched his drink and downed down quickly before she could grab it from his hand and try it herself. His face scrunched up as the drink ran down his throat, making it notable that it wasn't easy to swallow at once.
"I will drink what I please" Zelda said, looking straight at him, daring him to stop her. He raised an eyebrow at her.
"Not the vodka" he reprimanded.
"I can withstand it as well as you can!" she declared proudly.
"Then let's see where that goes" he stated, making Zelda feel even more confused than she had been.
"What do you mean?"
"You said you can withstand the vodka, so let's see how much you can withstand before reaching that level of alcohol"
Zelda huffed "Alright, this will teach you not to underestimate me" she stated, determination obvious in her posture.
"… So, wine?" asked Maya finally, making Link and Zelda notice that she had indeed not left their table the entire time. Link nodded and they were offered wine in two large wine glasses. Zelda looked at the glass with doubt, holding it to make sure that she was going to go through with their little dare. She looked around at the already several drunk courtesans. She glanced once more at Link before beginning to drink her wine calmly.
"Have you really used alcohol to get through conversations?" Link said, downing the wine faster than she was.
"You have no idea how boring my father's friends are" she said, drinking a bit faster as to not be left behind.
"Have you ever gotten drunk?" he asked.
"A princess never gets drunk" she stated proudly.
"How many glasses did you drink in a conversation?" he asked again, drinking from his glass.
"Why are you asking all the questions?" she asked suddenly, trying to keep up with him "I have some questions I would like to ask as well"
"Then ask me" he said, finishing his glass.
Zelda stared at him in surprise "Alright… What did you do during the day?" she said, placing her glass down.
"I was after the subordinates of the last person involved in the Gerudo murders" he stated simply.
"Who?" she asked with interest.
"… Zant" he said, filling their glasses again.
"Lord Zant?" she said in disbelief. Lord Zant was a close advisor and friend of her father, she couldn't have guessed him to be involved in the murders but she really couldn't deny that the man was truly frightening. The mere presence of Lord Zant sent chills down her spine; it would be very easy to believe that man to be a murderer, but due to his status, Zelda thought him to be just another politician like every other shark in the ocean "Has he really killed women?"
"His subordinates have… I haven't confirmed yet if he's ever lifted a finger to do it himself" he said, taking a large sip from his drink.
"So you plan on getting to his subordinates first…" she analyzed. He smiled at her "But lord Zant ever really goes to a party… He is not so easy to find" she stated, staring at him for an answer.
"I know… He is the hardest man to get to…" he sipped again "Which is why we don't plan to wait until he goes to a reunion" Zelda listened intently, she was urging to know how they planned to get to him. Something inside her told her she shouldn't be this excited but she wasn't listening.
"What do you have in mind?" she asked, making him laugh at her obvious interest.
"We can discuss it later" Zelda took a sip of her own wine while she thought of what to ask next.
"Who were those Gerudos that were murdered?" she asked after a few seconds of thinking.
"Street workers, they didn't belong to any particular house" he answered simply "Two of those girls were cousins of the one you saw crying" he said, moving his vision to the girl drowning her sorrows in her drink. Zelda turned to see that many girls had already forgotten why they were angry in the first place; all except for Thea, who still had her one drink in hand, still running her finger on the rim. Zelda wondered what had gotten Thea in such a state, given that Link wasn't expressing the same attitude that she had.
"Do you drink much?" she asked, placing her glass down.
"I used to"
Zelda stared curiously at him "Why?"
"I also had my people to drown" he stated, downing his drink in one go.
Zelda looked to her glass; she remembered all the times that she had to have a drink in her hand to even pretend to be interested in most of the conversations that went around her, some even included her own friends "Have you ever been drunk before?"
"Once" he said, then grinned slightly "I have never seen a drunk princess before, though"
Zelda frowned slightly "I'm not drunk!"
"You are" he pointed out "And I'm winning" he stated.
Zelda blushed, suddenly remembering that they had indeed been competing this entire time "How would you know? We've both been drinking the same amount of alcohol"
"But not in the same time" he said, waving his empty glass at her. She looked down at her half-filled glass and frowned, trying to down the rest of the glass down but being easily unable to do so. She almost spit what she had managed to drink back into the glass but retained herself, beginning to feel strange, her vision was faulting her, making it harder to concentrate on him "You really shouldn't do that" he stated, sounding a bit concerned.
"If you can…" she lifted the remainder of her drink to her lips and swallowed "Then so can I"
Link eyed her before filling their glasses again, not bothering to drink from his "Have you had any interest in any of the men that have tried to court you?"
Zelda stared at Link for a second, blushing slightly at his sudden interest in who she might be interested in "… Why do you want to know?" she finally asked.
"I figured the princess's story on how she avoids men would be interesting" he stated, placing his arms on the table.
She straightened herself on her seat, staring at him as if she were merely speaking politics with him. The many negative thoughts that had come to her through those encounters coming back to her "I avoid them because they are insufferable" she stated "There are a few good ones from time to time but they often belong to someone else, leaving me with people like Salvador, which you've been so gracefully acquainted with"
"So that's his name?" he asked with disinterest. Zelda had to laugh at the sarcasm in his tone.
"Yes, well. Apparently he is as annoying to me as if he did, in fact, knew me so I can safely say that he doesn't act like a complete idiot because I'm a princess" they both laughed slightly at her comment "What about you? Do you fancy someone here?" she asked, taking a sip from her drink and hoping to the Goddesses that his answer was exactly what she was expecting.
He shook his head "Not really" he said, drinking as much as she had. Zelda had to suppress a smile.
"Really? Not even one? I find that hard to believe" she pressed with interest, trying to focus her vision. She was beginning to feel lightheaded.
"They find me interesting at first but we later become a brotherhood. They become my friends" he stated.
"That doesn't answer my question" she tried to uselessly hide her smile as she tried to drink from her cup. She somehow felt like toying with him.
Link smiled and finished his drink, placing the glass back onto the table "I never liked anyone here but I used to like a girl when I was younger" he saw Zelda's expression change slightly; she then quickly finish her own glass and went for the bottle. She had started to serve her own glass instead of waiting for him to do so, but before Zelda could try and start her new drink as well he took it away from her and spilled the contents on the ground, earning a glare from Maya.
"Why did you do that?" asked Zelda, trying to grab her glass back so she could serve herself more.
Link kept the bottle away from her after she had managed to get her glass back "You're drunk enough already"
"Of course I'm not!" she said stubbornly, trying to ignore the dizziness.
"You've had enough, now go upstairs" said Link, backing away from the table as Zelda tried to get to the bottle while leaning towards him.
"And leave you to win the bet?" she said as she stood up, making him stand up as well, Zelda backed him against the door next to the kitchen and tried to snatch the bottle from him, finding it impossible to do given that he was too fast for her "How would I know that you're not drunk?" she asked, placing her hands on her hips as she tried to figure out how to trick him into handing over the bottle.
"Either go upstairs on your own or I'm making you" he said, giving her a defying stare, which she challenged back.
"Make me" Zelda wasn't sure what made her say those words, but she really didn't want to go upstairs, she wasn't feeling bad despite not being able to focus her vision and she would be damned if she let him win the bet. Link stared at her for a second before placing the bottle of wine on the counter and lifting her up in his arms, Zelda's surprised subsided quickly as she began to protest while he carried her out of the kitchen. Her protests couldn't be heard through Natya's contagious laughter that had most of the courtesans laughing as well as the loud conversations that had come to rise sometime after they had arrived back to the palace. The noise became less loud as Link carried a protesting Zelda up the stairs and into her room, placing her down onto the bed "Is this any way to treat a princess?"
"The princess told me to make her come upstairs, so I did" Link stated matter-of-factly, but as he tried to move away from her she placed her arms around his neck, not letting him move any farther.
"You're not leaving…" she stated softly. Zelda was beginning to feel tired but refused to let him just leave her like that. That is no way to treat a princess…
"Why not?"
"You're just going to go back down with the rest and leave me alone" she said accusingly. Link tried to back once more but that only made Zelda's arms cling more stubbornly to him. He knew he shouldn't be upstairs with her, his condition was over the limit where he could easily stop himself from doing something stupid and Zelda wasn't helping.
"… I can sit and wait until you fall asleep" he offered, staring back into her eyes. He was growing uncomfortable with how close she was keeping him to her.
"When I let go you'll just leave… I won't fall for that" Zelda said, unwavering.
Link sighted mentally. He was in no position to be close to her and she was making it harder for his thoughts to not drift to the heat that she emanated on his neck as well as how he was positioned just above her body, if he turned his head down he'd be able to detail her completely, even with the clothes she was wearing. He shook his head "I won't leave, I promise"
"Promise?" Zelda's grip loosened at his words. She didn't notice the sigh of relief coming from him as he nodded.
"Yes" he pulled away from her, but Zelda kept a grip on his hand. He reached the chair with his other hand and sat down beside her, letting Zelda keep a hold of his hand.
Zelda's eyes soon betrayed her as she began to fall asleep, her hand still gently holding onto his own.

Zelda ran frantically through the alleys. There was an eerie red glow coming from somewhere that painted the place she was currently in completely red. She didn't know where she was, why she was there or if there was anyone who could help her, all she knew is that she needed to find someone desperately.
She needed to find Link.
Zelda kept running through alleys, feeling something aching to dread as she hurried through the identical paths. She didn't know why she was feeling so scared and something told her that she wasn't close to feeling any better. Zelda quickly got exhausted from running in what she could only guess was circles and placed a hand on one of the walls to catch her breath but took her hand back almost as soon as she had placed it, realizing she wasn't touching the wall entirely. She looked to the wall, blood had been smeared on it, looking as if someone had slid their hand on the wall. Zelda looked ahead and saw similar patterns along the wall.
Part of Zelda felt the justifiable need to turn to the opposite direction and find a way out but a bigger force moved her towards the blood. She needed to know who it belonged to, why it was there, if the person responsible was still alive and who had harmed them and more importantly, where Link was. She didn't know how or why she knew he was somewhere in the maze she was in but she was certain that he was and Zelda needed to find him.
Fear struck her as she realized that maybe the person leaving the blood was him and he was slowly dying somewhere close. With that idea in mind, Zelda soon forgot about her tired legs and began the search, following the blood trail along the walls. Her fear began to grow as there were not only stains on the walls but a small trail of blood on the floor, which was slowly and surely getting bigger.
She knew that no person who shed this much blood could have any possibility of being alive, but her hopes were kept up as she saw no sign of a body. It didn't comfort her that she was now stepping barefooted on a steady pool of blood which covered the entire length of the alley and was gradually getting deeper. Zelda eventually stopped, disgusted by the horrible stench of blood that had began to assault her as the bloody river covered her ankles. She could also smell various other horrible things which she couldn't really place –nor did she want to.
Zelda looked around growing more afraid that she hadn't found Link or anyone by now. She turned to face her current way and was almost relieved to see someone quickly vanishing as they turned a corner "Link!" she called, hoping that it had been him. She began to follow the person, noticing that the rived of blood had vanished, but now every wall and floor was covered in red; she could even feel her feet sticking to the floor as she tried to catch up to whomever was turning corners "Link!" she called again as the person turned yet another corner.
It surprised her how fast this person was. Link or no, they managed to turn the corner just as she was turning the previous corner they had walked by. Her desperation grew as the person seemed to vanish more quickly into the alleys. Zelda was beginning to feel tired and unable to keep up so quickly and it was frightening her that she could hear a twisted laughter ring through the air as faint screams of men, women and children could be heard through the maze. It almost made the floor shake.
Zelda looked around. The stench of death was beginning to overwhelm her and the shadows of people she couldn't see where beginning to show against the wall, aided by the light that had no focus. The person she was following hadn't slowed, but Zelda could still see them turning the corners, as if they were expecting her to follow.
The right thing…
Zelda stopped in her tracks and looked around, wondering where that voice had come from.
The right thing… What is it?
Before Zelda could ask who was talking to her, a person stood before her against the light. Zelda tried to call for them but the person merely walked away, making Zelda run as fast as she could to catch them.
I wonder…
Zelda didn't know where the voice was coming from but she could clearly hear them as if they were right beside her, whispering to her ear in multiple, distorted voices. She saw the person at the end of another alley, standing against the light and waiting for her. As she caught sight of them they calmly walked away, making Zelda run towards them. As she turned the corner she could finally see the person walking on the alley at just enough distance to reach him, however as Zelda got closer, she screamed in horror as several corpses littered the floor. Zelda could clearly see the mutilated bodies of noble soldiers everywhere; some had no heads while others lay without limbs or a particular part of their internal organs. All had either burns, cuts, bruises or holes wherever she spotted them.
Zelda suppressed the heavy need to vomit as she tried to catch up to this person.
… If you do the right thing…
The voice got louder. Zelda noticed the bodies of the several noblemen also sprawled mutilated on the floor. She recognized these men; news of their deaths had reached her ears throughout the years. All of them ironically justified and handled by Agitha. She hadn't paid any mind back then but now she was finding it strange that this darkened man was so aimlessly walking through these bodies. Almost as if he had caused their deaths.
Zelda finally caught up to the man and grabbed their arm. She gasped as the person turned to look at her as his hand held a head.
… Does it really make…
Zelda began to shake in fear, grasping her mouth as if stopping herself from breathing more air, she could stop this nightmare. Her father's lifeless eyes stared up as his head hung bloody and loosely from the man's hand.
… Everybody…
But her father's head hadn't scared her as deeply as the cold blue eyes that stared back at her.
… Happy?

Zelda's body jerked upwards from the bed as she breathed heavily. She looked around, trying to register where she was. As the dark vision of Natya's room came clearer, she placed a hand on her chest to try and calm herself down. She was sweating, but as she brought her hands to her face, she also noticed she had been crying.
Zelda turned to where Link had been sitting but found the chair empty. She looked around for Natya and realized that she had mistaken her current sleeping arrangements and had taken the other side of the bed. Zelda didn't have time to figure out if she felt comfortable with that or not as she tried to recall the nightmare she had just dreamed.
The dream had been confusing, to say the least. The best reminder that Zelda had of the dream had been fear, but she couldn't pinpoint why she had been so afraid. She was scared of the blood and she had been terrified to see corpses so close and so specifically detailed but none of that had really scared her more than the fact that she had to find Link. She would figure that finding Link would be a relief but instead she grew more afraid as she got closer to whom she thought was Link.
This brought her thoughts to the man. Zelda couldn't see any defining features on the man except for his eyes. A pair of eyes that she had come to recognize a million times over. It was unmistakable that she had reached Link and yet, she couldn't piece together what it all meant. Link gripping her father's head in his hand had shocked her, but what she couldn't get out of her mind were the words the voice had told her.
"… What did it mean 'do the right thing'?" she whispered to herself " 'Make everybody happy…' " she repeated, trying to place the words together.
Zelda didn't want to think too much about the dream. Whatever it was, it wasn't good and if she was right, she was going to regret ever going to sleep that night.
Zelda just hoped that nightmare stayed what it was.
