DreamWorks Dragons: Defenders of Berk
A Banished Beast
Chapter 25
The teens ran as fast as they could across the paved ground of their streets, theirs arms pumping almost as fast as their hearts.
"Come on, we have to hurry!" Astrid pushed, pointing ahead over the roof tops of the houses where a large fight was going down.
"Meatlug! I'm coming baby!" Fishlegs yelled, hoping is Gronckle was able to hear it.
But Meatlug was busy, just like the others. She flew around, keeping her altitude the same as she flew a half circle around the Banshee. With the Banshee was Stormfly, shooting spines at the thing, but the creature kept dodging them.
The Banshee roared and charged into Stormfly, knocking her over. The beast lowered itself to pounce on the now prone dragon, but the attack was interfered when Hookfang pounced on it. The Nightmare flamed up, burning the Banshee's fire sensitive skin and making it screech out in pain and anger. The beast and Hookfang tumble around for a bit before the Banshee threw him off, Hookfang rolling a bit before stopping and slowly getting back up.
Meatlug growled and shot some lava blasts at the Banshee. The creature flew up, missing one, but being hit midair with another and falling back to the ground. The Banshee's skin began to smoke, its tissue burned a bit. The dragon growled before throwing its head into the sky and screeching. The high, piercing scream burned Hookfang and Meatlug's ears like fire, the two of them losing their balance and falling down onto the dirt ground.
Stormfly rolled back onto her feet, roaring at the Banshee before having to cover her ears with her wings as the Banshee directed its scream at her.
Suddenly, a cloud of green smoke surrounded itself around the Banshee before it caught flame and blew up, the Banshee emerging from it and flying high up into the air before circling around and diving back down towards the smoke's creators.
Barf and Belch separated their heads to go in two different directions, something they picked up from their riders, and slammed back into each other. They shook the dizziness away only to be found plummeting to the ground after the Banshee dive bombed into them, using its massive skull to throw them off balance.
Barf and Belch crashed into the ground as soon as the teens rounded the corner. They gasped with their hands up at their mouths as they saw the condition of their dragons. Their eyes were averted to the Banshee as it roared, crouched on the ground in front of them.
It lifted its wings and took off towards the Haddock house, the teens watching it leave. But Fishlegs quickly rushed towards Meatlug as soon as the creature disappeared over the rooftops. His arms wrapped around her neck as he hugged her;
"Oooh Meatlug, are you okay?!" he exclaimed. The Gronckle cooed and licked his cheek, her dizzy vision clearing up.
"Stormfly?!" Astrid exclaimed as well, holding her arms out as her Nadder lifted itself up off the ground and squawked at her.
Hookfang shook himself free of any dirt, smiling down at his rider as his hands began to stroke his snout.
The twins held their dragon's heads, the Zippleback settling down its struggle like a turtle to twist itself back on its belly. They managed with a little help from their riders, a lick going to each cheek after seeing their faces.
Astrid looked over at the twins, "Ruff, Tuff, what was that last thing you said the Banshee was going to do?" she questioned.
"Why are we even listening to them?" Snotlout exclaimed.
"They've been right so far. Tuff, what was that last thing you said?" Astrid now asked with urgency.
"…kill Hiccup…" Tuff said, his voice quivering a little.
The Banshee's roar sounded off in the distance, another roar echoing with it; belonging to a Thunderdrum.
The teens gasped and looked at each other before Astrid spoke up.
"Come on!"
They all mounted their saddles and took off towards their chief's home.
Thornado roared at the Banshee as it circled the house and roared back at him. Stoick was with him, just coming down from Gothi's house. The chief had his sword out, scowling at the Banshee as it flew high above them. Stoick hopped onto Thornado's saddle and the two of them ascended up to meet the beast in the air.
The Banshee roared at them again only to have to dive down to avoid the thundering roar replied by Thornado.
"That's it, Thornado! Keep at it! Let's see how loud he likes it!" Stoick shouted with gusto. Thornado roared again, the echoing blast traveling down towards the Banshee, hitting it and sending it plummeting into the roof top of Stoick's house.
The Banshee screeched from the pain, but it had enough strength to pull through. It dug its claws into the wood and screeched back up at Thornado.
Thornado flew away to try to avoid the noise, but the Banshee's screech wasn't so focused as his. Stoick covered his ears from the head throbbing scream and gasped a little as his ears began to hurt and his head pound.
The Banshee ceased its weapon of sound and roared at them, glaring at the Thunderdrum and its stupid human. It crawled over to the edge of the house and moved its head in through the window of Hiccup's bedroom. It was retracted back out quickly as it found no presence within the house, tilting its head to hear for that particular heartbeat. Its eyes moved from the house and upward at Gothi's, high above the village of Berk. They narrowed before the Banshee smirked and lifted up off of the roof and flew upwards.
"Stoick!" Astrid shouted as her and the others flew towards their chief. Stoick was shaking his head free of the head ache he was having thanks to the Banshee's scream.
"The Banshee—" Astrid breathed, "It's going after Hiccup!"
"I know," Stoick replied looking at the kids. "Toothless is with him, up at Gothi's hut." He added, looking and mentally screaming as the he saw the beast flying up towards said house.
"But sir," Astrid continued desperately; "The Banshee—it's not going to just feed on Hiccup, it's going to kill him!"
Stoick's eyes grew exponentially after what he heard, his head jolting back up to the Banshee and its destination.
"Hiccup!" he yelled, his heart skipping a beat and slamming into his chest.
Hiccup looked around, the commotion that he heard from outside has settled and now everything was quiet. His eyes landed back on Toothless beside him as the Night Fury glanced up at the ceiling and began to growl. A thud was heard shortly after and Toothless' growls increased, his tail coming over to Hiccup's side.
"Gobber," Hiccup whispered across the room, "It's on the roof."
Gobber looked up at the wooden ceiling, his mind looking through the sold wall with his hearing. A few smaller thuds were heard before a strange hiss; the noise making Hiccup shiver but nothing else.
He recognized that hiss though, it was the same noise the Banshee had whenever Hiccup was walking without control. His thoughts ventured back when he was trapped in that cave just before being cocooned. The Banshee had him touch its snout as if to create a bond. The feeling was anything but pleasant, but…
Out of all the things it could have made him do, it chose that.
There's still so much we haven't been able to learn about the Banshee. All we got from the books was that it was dangerous, and if Bork actually did put it in the Book of Dragons he would have wrote the usual, "extremely dangerous, kill on sight."
His thoughts began running and his eyes darted back and forth to match their speed.
He suddenly stopped and looked forward at Gobber and Gothi, then over at Toothless beside him. His eyes narrowed and he stood up, his hands balled into fists as he found a new sense of determination and strength.
"I know what to do." He said with authority.
To be continued…
Author's Note:
Alright, I coming out of this weird writer's sleep/block thing and am working on finishing this story first. Then after this I'll work on finishing Night Fury Down and then Double Trouble. I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to post every single day, but I'll get there again someday. My next quarter of college starts tomorrow and I might be getting a job as well. If that happens, which I'm really hoping it does, I won't be able to update until after 6pm on the week days.
I'm really sorry for the long wait guys; hope you don't plan on kill me.
I wish to thank you all for continuing to read, I know how it is to have to wait a long time for updates. Thank you all and have a nice day!
