True Love of The Seven Seas Chapter 24
And wait they did.
Under Kale's direction the crew of the Chimera steered the ship back onto calm waters out of the air and far away from what they assumed was the edge of the world itself. The moment this was achieved the nerves of everyone on board settled and they were allowed to relax slightly, but not too much. They were understandably still on edge waiting for their two missing number to return from Tartarus triumphant.
To ease her high anxiety levels Chryseis proceeded to work on that garment for Kale she had started after that monstrous Roc had hit them. Believe or not Chryseis was almost done with the main seems to the winter coat she was sewing together. The front, back, and the left sleeve were finished and now she was working on the right before adding on some personal finishing touches to the fabric.
As Chryseis was cutting a piece of thread between her teeth there was a hard knock on the door to her cabin. Startled Chryseis jumped on the bed a hand pressed to her heart.
Chryseis asked "Who is it?"
"It's Kale," he said, how deep voice booming through the cracks in the wood.
"Just a second," said Chryseis, voice cracking a bit as she scrambled to conceal what she was making for the man under the cot. That gorgeous hunk of a pirate. No! Chryseis slapped herself in the face to rid herself of those thoughts shaking them off. She couldn't think like that. Chryseis needed to rein these line of thoughts in. They were too distracting. Composing herself Chryseis unlocked the door meeting Kale after she opened it. "What is it?"
"Thought you'd like to know Sinbad and Marina are back," informed Kale, much to her astonishment.
"What," exclaimed Chryseis, slipping out of the cabin and shutting the door after exiting. "Are you sure?"
Nodding, Kale said "Positive. The crew just pinpointed them on a small patch of land a couple of meters to port."
"Whoa that was fast," said Chryseis, impressed at Sinbad's efficiency to get in and out of that hellhole so quickly. "What are we just standing around here for, let's go!"
With Chryseis leading the way she and Kale made it on deck at the same time the rest of the crew was pulling up Marina and Sinbad. Chryseis pushed through the crowd to greet them a blinding smile on her face as she expected to find them both standing there with the Book of Peace in their hands victorious. Instead the smile faded from her face as she saw them both sitting there somber and dejected lacking the book in their hands.
"Where is it," she said, searching around them assuming one of them might've set it down when they climbed onto the Chimera, feeling the panic begin to rise inside her. "Where's the Book of Peace?"
Ignoring Chryseis, Sinbad said "Turn the ship around. We're going back to Syracuse."
The crew stood there not obeying the order at first.
"Now," barked Sinbad, harshly.
The crew sprang into action to get the ship underway, but Chryseis stayed where she was rooted to the deck.
"Sinbad," said Chryseis, voice trembling, hands shaking uncontrollably, "where is the Book?"
Sinbad released an enormous sigh and looked up at her with dead eyes filled with despair, saying "We failed, Chryseis. Eris still has the Book of Peace. We couldn't get it back."
Chryseis nearly dropped dead on the spot.
No!
Authors Note:
So Marina and Sinbad made it back safely. Now it's time to head back home to Syracuse. I wonder what choice Chryseis will make when all is said and done.
Will she stay in Syracuse as is her duty or follow her heart and remain with Kale on countless more adventures across the seas?
OMG! Guys I just realized we are almost at the end of the story…Ah! Can we really be at that turning point?! :O
