"What?!" Dean hollered rather loudly, as he slammed his fists down on the table. The sudden noise in the rather quiet diner had the other patrons looking around for the source of the sound; their glares landing on the two.
"Dean, I'm right here. You don't have to be so loud!" Megan said through clenched teeth since people were still looking over at them.
"How the hell can you expect me to keep my voice down when you drop a bombshell like that on me?"
"See? This is exactly why I didn't just come out and tell you when Derek showed up and after Eva Marie made a spectacle of it all when we went out for our first date. I knew you would react like this and then your views on me would change. I should have just kept this to myself and left our relationship how it was, in complete shambles." Megan said quickly as she reached into her purse, grabbed some cash and threw it down on the table, not even caring that they hadn't received their food yet. She needed to get out of there, and fast.
Dean was still in a slight state of shock at what she had just revealed to him, and he was still trying to process and comprehend what she had just said. It took him a moment to realize that she had slid out of her side of the booth and was halfway to the door. Quickly, he jumped to his feet and ran after her. She was almost to her car when he caught up to her and gently grabbed her forearm to get her to stop, and turned her to look at him.
"Meg, please don't leave. We need to talk about this. I am not going to treat you any differently because of what you just told me. I want to know what happened. I'm sorry about how I reacted. I knew that you had to tell me something, but I didn't know that it was going to be something of that magnitude. Please come back inside with me."
She just stood there, contemplating if he was being sincere or not. Judging by the look on his face, he was being absolutely sincere and he truly wanted to know more about her past. She couldn't seem to find her voice, so she just nodded her head and let Dean grab ahold of her hand to lead her back into the diner and to the their table.
"Again, I'm sorry for my outburst of shock. I'm still having trouble processing this. I can't believe that Derek raped you. What lead to this?"
Taking a deep breath, Megan tried to gain the courage to relieve that horrible night of hell that she went through almost eight years ago.
"Let me ask you a question first. Do you remember when we ran into him and Eva Marie at the restaurant on our first date and she was hinting that Derek told her about my partying ways when we were younger?"
Dean sat there, thinking back to their first date and how it all went downhill so quick. It was all coming back to him now; the gray skies, the flat tire, the leaking radiator, and the night that she went home for the weekend and ignoring him. Yes, he remembered that it was the beginning of the end for them, and he nodded in acknowledgment.
"Well, there was some truth to whatever it is that he told her. When we were younger, since he was a couple years older than me, we drank and partied a lot. You would have thought I was newly twenty one years old by how much we partied. There are many a nights where I woke up the next morning and I couldn't remember where I was or what had happened the night before. I kept having these big holes in my memory. I thought it was from taking bumps in the ring and things along those lines."
"Did you ever go to the doctor about those lapses in your memory?"
"No, like I said I just chalked it up to my training. I didn't want to say anything to jeopardize that. But there was one day that I went to the doctor because I had sprained my ankle really badly. I thought it was broken. They did a blood test before my x-rays. A few days later, I was called into my doctor's office because they found something weird in my blood test results. I went in and the first thing was that my ankle was fine. I just had to keep it iced and elevated. The reason that they had called me in was because there were trace amounts of Rohypnol in my system."
"What is that exactly?"
"It is more commonly known as the 'date-rape' drug. So someone had drugged me at one or all of these parties that I went to. But the other surprise that the doctor told me was that, on a whim because of the trace of Rohypnol, that they ran a pregnancy test and that it came back as positive."
"You have a child? Why haven't you told me about that part yet?" Dean asked wildly, keeping his voice level down this time.
"Just hold on a damn second Dean! I will get to that part here soon. To hear that I was pregnant was a huge shock because I couldn't remember when the last time I had had sex with Derek was. We were going through a rough patch and sometimes we wouldn't talk to each other for a month or two. After I left the doctor's office, I immediately called him and told him that we needed to talk. He tried to brush me off since we were 'off' at the time. I told him that it was important and that it couldn't wait. He agreed, and he met me at my apartment. He walked in with a huge attitude already and just wanted me to get to the point. I told him that I was pregnant, and he started to call me every name under the sun. It pissed me off that he thought that way of me, and I knew that we were done for real and that I never wanted to be around him anymore. I tried to defend myself by telling him I hadn't had anytime to be with anyone else because of my training. He cut me off by backhanding me. This is when he said the absolute, most vile things to me. He admitted to me that he was the one spiking my drinks at all of the parties to 'loosen me up a little'. He said that it started with him letting his buddies have their way with me while I was unconscious, and then he finally gave it a go himself. He called me a slut again and said it could have been anyone of five people that could have fathered my child." Megan said, her voice cracking as she tried to keep the tears at bay, but failed as they started to fall.
"What. The. Fuck?! You mean to tell me that the man that was your on and off boyfriend drugged you, but let his buddies have sex with you will you couldn't consent to it. Then he did it himself?! I am going to kill him the next time that I see him." Dean said, as anger took over his being, and he slammed his fists on the table causing their silverware to rattle around. "I can't believe no one has said anything about you having a child."
"That's the thing, Dean. I don't have a child."
"What do you mean? You just said that you were pregnant."
"I was pregnant, but once Derek told me about what he had done to me, and the fact that I was so young, I terminated the pregnancy. I couldn't go through with it not knowing who had had sex with me and not knowing who the father of my child was. I was absolutely devastated by the whole ordeal that I just shut down. I had to get out of Nashville, so I went and stayed with my aunt and uncle in Georgia."
"Megan, I am sorry that this all happened to you and at such a young age too. I can't even imagine what you went through. It makes me understand you a whole lot more now. I understand why you were so guarded when I came on to you so strong and why you don't drink anymore. I guess that made you think back to that time when Eva Marie told you that I was sleeping with her. God, I am such an idiot!"
"You are not an idiot. You had no idea, and you are the first person that I have ever told about what happened when I still lived in Nashville. No one at home knows, except for that prick, Derek. My parents have no idea. They were just happy when I broke it off with him for good."
"Your parents don't even know that you were pregnant?"
"Nope, I went through all of this on my own. It sucked because I wanted nothing more than to have my mother right there with me when I ended the pregnancy, but I was so afraid that I had disappointed her."
Dean reached across the table and grabbed both of her hands and squeezed.
"I don't know what to say to take that pain away."
"There's nothing that you can say, Dean. It is in my past and you had no idea of what I went through. But I'm glad that you know now. I'm glad that you know that I wasn't intentionally pushing you away from me. I haven't felt as loved as much as I did than when we first got together. You were slowly chipping away at those walls that I built."
"And then I messed it all up by not making more of an effort to communicate with you." Dean said as he left go of her hands and dropped his head in his own hands.
"Dean, stop. This is not why I wanted to get together with you tonight. I don't want you to feel like you did anything wrong for why we broke up. It was just…it was mostly Derek coming back into my life after so many years and all of the hurt and emotions coming back and hitting me full force."
Dean looked up at her with adoration in his eyes. He couldn't believe how incredibly strong of a woman she was and he lost her. He mentally was kicking himself.
"So what does this mean for us?"
"I'm not sure Dean. I have a lot that I have to think about, but I want you to know that I care about you a lot still. My feelings for you have never faltered, but I have Seth now to think about." Megan said as she started to gather her purse and her jacket as she stood up, ready to leave.
Dean was quiet, as he slid out of his side of the booth and walked her out to her car. Watching her interlock her fingers with his, he knew exactly what he had to do. As she let go of his hand to unlock her car, he turned her around and crashed his lips to hers with enough greed that it took her breath away.
"Let me tell you this, Megan. I love you and I haven't stopped. I will do whatever it takes to make you mine again. Even if that means I have to go through Tweedle Dumbass to get you, I will. I want to be the one that calls you mine and I will never let you go again without a huge fight. This is my promise to you. I love you." Dean said with a low growl that showed just how much he wanted her.
With one last hungry kiss, he turned and walked to his own car, leaving Megan standing there, absolutely breathless.
"Shit."
