Episode 73: Redemption Part 2

Shockwaves ripples through the arena. Yuni flinches from the shockwave and Seto, while his hair and clothes blow back, stands resolutely. Both Yugohan Lord monsters have destroyed each other. Once the two realize what has happened, they both look surprised. Seto demands, "What!? How was my Quantus destroyed!? No one has ever destroyed Quantus!"

Yuni, too looks baffled. He shakes his head in disbelief. "I have no more of a clue than you do."

On the observation platform, Tori is looking at the scene with awe. She wonders aloud, "What could have caused that? Quantus had 9000 attack, while Chronos only had 5000. I didn't see Yuni activate any card effects or anything like that."

Celestia steps forward. While keeping her eyes on the duel, she states, "I think that I can answer that question. The Yugohans worshipped a trinity of gods. They had a primary god, a creator god, who created both Quantus and Chronos to help it engineer new realms. As these two were created as equals, neither one can overpower the other. Both Quantus and Chronos have a hidden effect. If one attacks the other, their attack points become equal." As Celestia is explaining the last part, a flashback to when the two Yugohan Lords started their attacks is shown. As Chronos is charging energy for its counterattack, its attack is increased (ATK: 9000).

Back at the normal scene, Tori points out, "It's just like the Egyptian God Monsters! Slifer the Sky Dragon and Obelisk the Tormentor couldn't overpower each other either."

Celestia nods. "The gods of Ancient Egypt shared many traits with those of Yugoha. I am sure that that is not due to coincidence."

Tori looks at her with surprise. "Wait, are you telling me that Egypt is linked with Yugoha!?"

"That is a story for another time. Your friend is about to resume the duel." Tori looks back towards the duel, and sure enough, the two have recovered from their initial shock.

Seto sighs and says, "Even without Quantus, I'm still the greatest duelist alive. I can still defeat you with ease." Seto dramatically throws a card facedown. "Your move (Seto's hand: 1)."

Yuni draws. Yugi tells him, This is starting to remind me of the time that Kaiba and I dueled in the Battle City finals. We both got out our God Cards out, had visions of Egypt, and then the Gods destroyed each other.

Well if history is repeating itself, that would mean that history is on my side. He returns his focus to the duel. "Since I control no monsters, I can summon Cyber-Tech Berserker (Dark/Level 5/Fiend/Effect/ATK 2300/DEF 1100) without having to tribute any monsters, however if I summon another monster he'll destroy himself. Now Berserker, let's take advantage of Seto's empty field, attack directly!"

Seto puts on a look of fake offense. "Yuni, do you really think that I'd allow you to attack me directly? Reveal facedown card, Plasma Phantom!" Seto's card reveals itself and a wispy, nebulous form of orange-red plasma appears on the field. "Since you attacked me directly, I can activate this card, which upon activation, negates your attack and becomes a monster (Light/Level ?/Thunder/Effect/ATK ?/DEF ?)!" Yuni's monster is halted.

Brutus asks with confusion, "Wait…that trap…is a monster?"

Tori sighs. "Come on Brutus. Are you telling me that you've never heard of a trap monster?"

"Should I have?" Tori nods. Brutus looks as if he's thinking about something. A false look of realization crosses his face. "Oh yeah, I remember those guys. How about you just, you know, catch me up on what they do?"

Tori sighs again. "It's simple. You activate the trap, and then place it in your Monster Zone. The only thing is, they still count as traps, so they take up a spot in both the Monster Zone and Spell and Trap Zone."

Brutus nods. "Of course. I knew all of that."

Seto explains, "Plasma Phantom takes on the level of the monster that it just stopped (Level: 5)." The form of plasma warps its shape and transforms into a plasma form of Yuni's monster. "Then its attack and defense are equal to its level times 400 (ATK: 2000) (DEF: 2000)." He looks directly at Yuni. "And you were saying…?"

Yuni throws down a facedown and says with some annoyance, "Your turn (Yuni's hand: 1)."

Seto draws. He grins. He says to the card he draws, "How nice to see you. I summon the Plasma Beast (Light/Level 1/Beast/Tuner/ATK 500/DEF 600), which when summoned, copies the level of another Plasma monster on my field (Level: 5). I tribute my two level five monsters in order to summon my favorite monster! Come to me, Cosmic Plasma Dragon (Light/Level 8/Dragon/Effect/ATK 3000/DEF 2500)!" The plasma of the two monsters break down and combine together. The color of the plasma shifts towards white-blue and forms into Seto's dragon. "When I tribute Plasma Phantom for the effect of Plasma monster, it grants me one extra card." Seto draws another card. He immediately sets it. "Now that that business is through, Cosmic Plasma Dragon, destroy Yuni's monster, Plasma Stream of Destruction!" Seto's dragon unleashes a brilliant flow of glowing plasma and incinerates Yuni's monster (Yuni's LP: 3500). "You know what happens when my dragon destroys monster by battle (Level: 13) (ATK: 3500). I end my turn (Seto's hand: 0)."

Yuni pulls a card off of the top of his deck. He grins and thinks, And so fate continues to guide this duel. He declares, "I activate my trap card, Cyber Reinforcements, and summon two Cyber Tokens (Earth/Level 1/Machine/Token/ATK 0/DEF 0). I tribute the two tokens in order to summon my favorite monster! Come to my aid, Cyber-Tech Magician (Dark/Level 7/Spellcaster/Effect/ATK 2500/DEF 2100)!" Yuni's ace monster appears in front of him and points its staff at Seto's dragon, as if in challenge. "These monsters have already met each other in combat twice before! The first time my magician slew your dragon." As Yuni says this, a flashback to Yuni and Seto's first duel is shown. The Cyber-Tech Magician destroys Cosmic Plasma Dragon and wins the duel.

Seto counters, "But on their second encounter, both monsters evolved into their ultimate forms, and mine defeated yours." This time their second duel is shown. Cosmic Tri-Pulsar Dragon attacks and destroys Temporax, the Cyber-Tech Magician of Time, winning the duel for Seto.

Yuni smiles. "Then I guess that this duel is the tie breaker. Let's do this Cyber-Tech Magician!"

"You'll never defeat my Cosmic Plasma Dragon!"

Yuni's magician twirls its staff and pounds it into the ground while Seto's dragon roars in challenge.

At the observation platform, Oblivion grins devilishly. He thinks, The stage is perfectly set for my little trap to come into play. All I need is the proper provocation from Yu-Gi-Oh.

On the opposite side of the observation platform, Otto looks towards Oblivion and sees the look on his face. He thinks, It would appear that I am not the only person with a master plan in place. It would appear that the weak-minded Cosmo has something planned for this duel as well. This should be interesting, as long as it doesn't interfere with any of my plans.

Back at the duel, Yuni declares, "I activate the Cyber-Tech Spellbook of Drawing in order to draw two cards!" Yuni draws. "Absolutely perfect. I activate the Cyber-Tech Spellbook of Strength and increase the attack of Cyber-Tech Magician by 1000 (ATK: 3500)! Now Cyber-Tech Magician, attack the Cosmic Plasma Dragon!"

Seto scowls. "I remember your effect. It negates the effect of my dragon, thus making it lose its attack point gain."

"That would be correct. Go, unleash your Effect Sealing Magic!" Cyber-Tech Magician casts a spell and Cosmic Plasma Dragon's coloration turns to grey (ATK: 3000). "Now Cyber-Tech Magician, Cyber Magic Attack!" The magical blast from Yuni's monster destroys Seto's dragon (Seto's LP: 4300).

As the attack is making contact, Oblivion shouts out towards Seto, "Now Seto, remember all that I told you! Remember what Yuni is trying to do to you!"

Seto looks up in agony. Sealed memories begin to pour into his head. He suddenly sees what happened to him when Oblivion paid a visit to his room earlier. The Seto from the memory demands, "All right, why are you here?"

Oblivion answers, "I already told you. You and I have some unfinished business to attend to."

"I have no business with you."

"Oh but you do. You've already been told. Once a Disciple, always a Disciple."

"I never joined your silly organization."

"Maybe not officially, but as soon you let your Darkness take hold of you, you were all mine."

"I am Seto Ossius. I belong to none."

Oblivion grins. "No, you are mine." He reaches out and taps a finger over Seto's heart. Instantly, the dark aura of rage and anger surrounds Seto.

Seto demands, "What…are you…doing to…me!?"

"Taking control over your rage. I am your master now."

Seto looks as if he's trying to fight it, but he can't. He kneels to the floor. "What is your bidding?"

Oblivion looks pleased. "You must destroy Yuni Oha."

Seto looks surprised. "Yuni!? Why?"

Oblivion grins slyly. "Yuni is attempting to keep you away form your brother."

"What!?"

"You heard me. Remember when he beat you? He did it because he knew that without the Another Hope card, you would never get him back. Not only that, but he dared to defeat you. No one defeats the great and powerful Seto Ossius."

A look of hatred crosses Seto's face. He says under his breath, "Yuni…"

Just then, pounding is heard at the door. Oblivion looks to it, and then to Seto. He holds his hand to Seto's forehead. "You will forget all that has happened here. For all you know, we had a normal conversation about nothing special. You will only remember what happened when I command you to." The dark aura around Seto subsides. Oblivion walks to the door, and just as he opens it, Brutus charges in.

The memory ends. Yuni asks, "Seto, are you okay?"

Seto looks up towards Yuni with extreme hatred on his face. He says with rage, "You…"

Yuni is confused. "Seto?"

The dark aura returns to Seto. He shouts, "I will destroy you!" He puts out a hand towards his facedown card. His dark aura spreads to it. "I activate my facedown card, Dark Cosmic Rupture! Since you just destroyed one of my monsters, I can bring it back, and then inflict damage to you equal to half of its attack!" Cosmic Plasma Dragon returns to the field, and a massive burst of dark plasma is ejected from it to Yuni (Yuni's LP: 2000).

Yuni grunts at the damage. He realizes, No! This is not good! Seto's been taken over by Darkness again! I thought we cured him!

Yugi responds, It would appear that Oblivion has a greater hold on him than we imagined. It has suddenly become all that much more important that we win this duel. We must help show Seto the path of redemption.

Watching with interest, Otto thinks, So, Cosmo was actually able to corrupt Prince Seto. How very interesting. I would not have thought that one of the princes of Yugoha could be brought to Darkness like that. All the much better for my plans.

Yuni demands, "Seto, what has happened to you!? Why are you acting like this!?"

Seto responds with hatred, "You know why! I'll never let you lay a finger on my brother!"

Yuni is confused. "What!?"

"Don't play innocent with me! Oblivion revealed me to the truth, and as they say, the truth has set me free!"

"But it's not the truth! You can't trust anything that Oblivion says! You know that!"

"And I also know that you can't be trusted either! Finish your turn so that I can destroy you!"

Yuni looks unsure as of what to do. He eventually says, "Fine then, I'll just have to set my last card and end my turn (Yuni's hand: 0)."

Seto's rage continues to manifest itself on his face. He shouts out in anger and draws his next card, which becomes infiltrated with his darkness. "You'll never get away with it! I'll always protect my brother! I activate Dark Cosmic Seduction!"

Yuni is worried. "You don't want to do this Seto!"

"No Yuni, you don't want me to do this! This is what I have always wanted to do to you! You humiliated me! I am the Duel Monsters World Champion, and you, some unknown duelist, defeated me! Oh, I might have defeated you since then, but it wasn't enough! I need to see you really squirm, and my powers of Darkness will allow for that! Go, Darkness Evolution!" Shadows and dark energy coalesce around the Cosmic Plasma Dragon, and the monster begins to morph. Seto chants, "Power of Darkness, scourge of the Universe! Corrupt my dragon and unleash its astronomical power! I call upon you, Darkness Evolution: Dark Cosmic Void Dragon (Dark/Level 11/Dragon/Evolution/ATK 4000/DEF 3500)!" The dragon of black holes emerges from the shadows.

Kodane appears frightened. He cries out, "No! Not that monster! Seto, what are you doing!?" Seto pays him no attention. Kodane starts to cry. Tori walks over to him and tries to offer comfort.

Yuni demands, "Come on Seto, you're scaring your brother! Stop this madness now!"

Seto denies, "He doesn't realize that I'm doing this for him! He'll come to his senses eventually! Now, Dark Cosmic Void Dragon, unleash your Singularity Vortex! With this mighty effect, my dragon banishes all other cards on the field, except of course my Dark Cosmic Seduction, which isn't affected by other cards that I control!" The swirling black hole in the dragon's chest begins to suck in Yuni's monster and facedown card. They are broken down into a particle stream and pulled completely into the void. "My dragon then gains 200 attack for each card it consumes (ATK: 4400)!"

Yuni declares, "You made a mistake Seto! My facedown card is the trap card known as Cyber-Tech Chaos Spiral! If I activate it under normal circumstances, all it does is send a Light and Dark monster to my grave, but if it is banished, than I get do that and summon a banished to my field! First I'll send Cyber-Technokinetic and Cyber-Tech Formless to my grave, then I'll bring back the Cyber-Tech Magician that you just banished!" Cyber-Tech Magician triumphantly returns to the field.

"Your pathetic monster will help you in no way!"

"We'll have to see about that!"

"You've lucked out on this turn, because Dark Cosmic Void Dragon can't attack the turn it's summoned. Your destruction will have to come next turn (Seto's hand: 0)!"

Yuni draws. He asks, "Seto, are you ready to really get this duel on!? I banish Cyber-Technokinetic and Cyber-Tech Formless!" Cyber-Tech Magician becomes cloaked in light and dark energies of Chaos. Yuni's eyes glow, one gold and one dark purple, and the yin-yang on the back of his hand glows as well. Yuni chants, "O, Will of Chaos, hear my plead, grant me the power that I need! White as day, black as night, Cyber-Tech Magician, unleash your might! I Chaos Evolve the Cyber-Tech Magician into Discordon, the Cyber-Tech Magician of Chaos (Light/Level 9/Spellcaster/Evolution/ATK 3300/DEF 2900)!" Discordon now stands where the Cyber-Tech Magician once did. "My Chaos magician now negates the effects of all of the cards you control! Let's do this, Chaos Sealing!" Discordon casts its magic, and a Yin-Yang seal appears around Seto's monster.

"You might be able the negate the effect of my dragon, but the effects of Dark Cosmic Seduction can't be negated!"

"It doesn't matter to me! I'll now activate Discordon's second effect and banish the Cyber-Tech Spellbook of Drawing from my grave in order to activate its effect!" Yuni draws two cards. "My monster may not be powerful enough to defeat you as it is, but it can still cause you some damage! I activate the Cyber-Tech Spellbook of Stealth! This card allows a Cyber-Tech Magician monster that I control to attack you directly! Go, Yin-Yang Stream of Stealth!" Yuni's monster disappears. Seto looks back and forth, trying to find it. It appears behind Seto and casts its spell, sending light and dark energy at Seto's back (Seto's LP: 2650). Discordon reappears in front of Yuni. Yuni then explains, "If a monster attacks directly due to the Spellbook of Stealth, it only inflicts half the damage." Yuni sets the last card in his hand. "I'll banish Cyber-Tech Teleporter and Cyber-Tech Berserker to prevent Discordon from devolving, and then it's your move (Yuni's hand: 0)."

Seto once again corrupts the top card of his deck with dark energy and is about to draw it, when Kodane shouts out while still crying, "Seto, please, you have to stop this! Please!"

A look of distress crosses Seto's face and he grunts. The next thing shown is Seto floating in an area of pitch black. In front of him is a projection of Kodane crying and calling out to him. Seto shouts, "Kodane! I'm sorry. This has to stop."

A menacing, malevolent voice says, "No, it doesn't."

Seto shouts out in anger, "Who are you!? What's going on!?"

The voce says with mock hurt, "Seto, don't you recognize me?" The projection of Kodane goes away. Floating now in front of Seto is a near mirror image of him, except with pale grey skin, glowing purple eyes, and a dark aura.

Seto is taken aback. "What are you!?"

"Why I am you. Can't you tell?"

"You aren't me! Let me out of here!"

"I assure you that I am you, I'm your better half…your darker half. I'm the anger and rage that you've built up inside of you for all of these years, and now I have been freed. With my power, none will be able to harm our brother."

"He's my brother, not yours! And your scaring him! Get out of my head!"

"I'm afraid that that is quite impossible. We are one now. There is nothing you can do about it."

Seto shouts in anger. The scene returns to the duel. Seto is still shouting. He quickly stops and regains his composure. He finally draws his dark card. "I equip Dark Cosmic Void Dragon with Dark Cosmic Soul! This card banishes a level five or higher monster from my grave and gives my dragon attack equal to half the attack of the banished monster. I'll banish Quantus, the Spatial Lord (ATK: 6400)!" A spiritual form of Quantus appears and superimposes itself over Seto's dragon. "Now Cosmic Void Dragon, attack Yuni's monster with Event Horizon Pulse!"

As Seto's dragon prepares its attack, Yuni declares, "I'm not through fighting yet! I activate Negate Attack and end your Battle Phase!"

"You are such an annoyance. I'll just have to defeat you on my next turn (Seto's hand: 0). By the way, I should thank you for negating the effect of my dragon. If you didn't, its effect would destroy Dark Cosmic Soul, weakening my monster."

Yuni responds, "I'll just have to fix that then!" He thinks, All right, it's now or never. If I don't pull the right card, then I don't know how much longer I'll be able to hold on for. Let's do this. Yuni holds his hand up into the air. His eyes and yin-yang begin to glow. Yuni declares, "Go, Chaos Draw!" Yuni's hand is swirled around by light and dark energy. So does the top card of his deck. He dramatically draws. "It's time to turn this duel around! I equip Discordon with Chaos Relic: Yin-Yang Crest of Temko!" A yin-yang made of shining metal appears on Discordon's chest. "The Yin-Yang Crest allows me to banish a monster from my grave, and if do, the equipped monster gains the effect of the banished monster. I banish Chronos, the Temporal Lord!" Similarly to before, a spiritual form of Chronos appears and superimposes itself over Discordon. The two Yugohan Lords react to each other and roar in challenge. "Eight of my turns have now passed, meaning that Discordon's attack becomes equal to that amount times 1000 (ATK: 8000)."

Seto looks shocked. "No! You can't get a monster more powerful than mine!"

"And that's not all! I use Chronos' other effect, and launch us two turns into the future!" Chronos' spirit roars (ATK: 10000). "Now Discordon and Chronos, attack with Temporal Yin-Yang Stream!" As Discordon launches magical Chaos attack, Chronos launches its temporal energy attack. The two attacks travel together.

Seto declares, "Don't allow him to defeat you! Counterattack with Fist of the Event Horizon!" Seto's dragon lets lose a pulse of energy and Quantus punches with the pulse traveling at exactly the same place. The two attacks collide in the center of the field and create a massive shockwave. Quantus and Dark Cosmic Void Dragon are destroyed (Seto's LP: 0). Seto hangs his head in defeat.

Yuni holds his hand out towards Seto and declares, "Seto, I banish the Darkness within you, and free you form your dark prison!" A ray of light leaves Yuni's hand and shines on Seto.

Seto looks as if he's in pain. He cries out, "Ahhhhh!" The shadows around Seto shatter away. He quickly recovers and look down at himself. He questions hesitantly, "I'm…free…?"

Yuni nods and affirms, "The Darkness will no longer control you."

The Minister of Dueling announces, "And there you have it! Yuni Oha has won! What an amazing duel that was! One for the history books for sure! And so Yuni Oha is our the first to move on the final round!"

Yuni and Seto make their way back to the observation platform. Kodane runs over to Seto and hugs him. He's crying, but now of happiness. He says, "Please Seto, don't ever act like that again."

Seto returns the hug and says, "I won't. It's over, it's all over." He looks over to Yuni, grins a small smile, and gives a slight nod, as if to thank him.

Yuni smiles and nods back at him.
