Chapter 25
The next few days were bittersweet for Edward, he loved having Jasper with him 24/7, but he knew that they were living on borrowed time. So instead of dwelling on it Edward decided to live like it was their last day together. They enjoyed a nice family day with the Cullen's and Rosalie on Sunday. They joined Seth and Jake, who was also on a week leave, for a bonfire at the beach. On the last three days they went back to where they first professed their love.
"Just bring the wood over here and I'll build the fire."
"J can you look at the tent, it looks lopsided?" Edward tried to put the tent together but it just wouldn't sit right for him.
"I will as soon as I get the fire going." They had two days left to themselves then they had to go back for Jasper to say his, farewells to the family.
"I think we need a place like your grandpa's babe. That way we'll have plenty of land for our pets to run around," Edward suggested as he collected firewood.
"You want a ranch?" Jasper asked excited at the thought of bringing his horse Chocolate to Forks.
"Well, maybe not that much land but like two or three acres, you know, so we can have room for your golden retriever Goldie to run around or something." Jasper loved the idea. He had thought about getting a house between the Cullen's and his parents' house so they could be near both Rosalie and Edward's parents. But getting land and building their own home, the way they wanted it, was a great idea. Jasper loved Edward's beautiful mind.
Jasper walked up behind Edward who was picking up a stick and startled him when he wrapped his arms around him.
"Maybe after you get out of med school and I get a permanent station we can look into that. We can build our own house in the middle of about three acres and lock ourselves away from the world. What do you think, Doc?"
"I would love that J, but then what is the point of going to medical school if we're going to lock ourselves away?" Edward asked as he turned in Jasper's arms.
Jasper thought for a moment, then gave Edward his cheesiest grins.
"You could give me a physical every day."
"Well since you put it that way, I guess it would be worth it." Edward kissed Jasper chastely, then tried to finish collecting wood for the fire.
"Hey," Edward noticed Jasper's serious tone. "I want you to know that I love you with all my heart and soul Edward. Everything that I am is because of you and for you. I promise you that one day very soon I will make th..."
"Stop," Edward put his hand over Jasper's lips to stop him from finishing his statement. "I know, and when you get back we're getting married, start our careers, buy or build our home and we'll figure out how to have our 2.5 family. But right now, at this very moment I just want us to be us, the cowboy and the doc, J. and E., Jasper and Edward, US." Jasper took both of Edward's soft hands in his and brought them to his lips.
"Thanks Doc." Then he pulled him towards the tent. "Why don't we test out your building skills?" Edward's cheeks turned red at his boyfriend's intentions as they neared the slightly lopsided tent.
"So 2.5?" Jasper asked as he helped Edward undress. Edward smiled softly.
"I figured a well-rounded number, when you include a golden retriever that is, would be good." Jasper kissed Edward and laid him down on the sleeping bag.
"2.5…and a golden retriever named Goldie? God, you areperfect." He said as his kissed his way down Edward's body.
Little did Jasper know that this would be the last time he would make love to Edward for over a year. It would be the last time he would feel the warmth of his naked body next to his, the softness of his hair on his chest, the tenderness of his touch on his face; it would be their first year apart.
Edward tried to convey all the love and devotion he had for Jasper in his touch and his words but mostly with his body. He made sure Jasper knew that Edward was his in every way possible, soul, mind and body. To his delight Jasper reciprocated every feeling. Moments like this were what made everything worth going through. The love and affection they felt for one another was so evident and palpable you could almost touch it. It was true love.
