Whipped, Mud, Naked, and Clowns

Jane's POV

I entered the house, laughing while Kris grumbled under her breath, still trying to remove the mud from her hair. Her clothes were clean but in her hands were the dirt-covered pair. "It's not that funny, Ma," she stated to me.

"Oh yes, it is," I retorted with a smirk.

"What's funny," Maura inquired as she entered the living room. She gave me a quick peck then kissed Kris' cheek. She noticed the grumpy look on her daughter's face as she asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Kris grumbled back.

Maura looked at Kris curiously before she noticed Kris' appearance fully. "Weren't you wearing something else earlier," she inquired. She then raised her hand and touched Kris' neck, "Is this mud?"

Kris frowned deepened, raising her hand to rub the mud off. "I just need a bloody shower," Kris informed us.

"Why didn't you take one at work?"

"Because I had a report to do. I'm going to take one right now," Kris replied as she began to walk toward the staircase.

"You might need to hold off on the shower."

Kris stopped at the first step and asked, "Why?"

"Tommy's is trying to fix the hot water right now."

Kris closed her eyes, resting her head on the banister before she stepped off the step. "And the day gets fuckin' better," Kris muttered.

"Language," Maura chided.

"Oh stop. Tommy will fix it," I told her, trying to contain my smirk. Kris rolled her eyes and stomped into the kitchen, leaving Maura slightly confused. I looked over at her and stated, "Kris was tackled by a naked man."

Maura let out a giggle loudly while Kris grumbled even more. She opened the refrigerator, taking the peanut butter jar out. "Kris, don't eat the peanut butter," Maura pleaded.

"Kris, it happens to everyone," I informed my daughter. Kris lifted her head from the refrigerator and raised an eyebrow. I rolled my eyes and replied, "Okay, not exactly the way yours played out."

"Thought so," Kris retorted as she pulled the jar out and placed it on the island. She pulled out a spoon then opened the jar to eat.

Maura walked over, taking a seat at the island. She placed her hand over the peanut butter causing Kris to pout slightly. "Was it that bad," Maura inquired.

"Yes!"

"No," I retorted.

Kris wiggled her nose and pointed at me with her spoon. "Watch as my picture is posted everywhere on the Internet," Kris retorted.

"The Internet," Maura questioned.

Kris sighed, placing the spoon down in pure annoyance. "Might as well as tell you," Kris gave in finally. I pulled up a chair next to Maura, placing my hands under my chin. "You're enjoying this way too much," Kris commented.

"I'm enjoying the way you are making it a big deal."

"My embarrassment is not meant for your entertainment."

"It's happen to everyone at least once, Kris. You can say it's a welcoming."

"A welcoming to what?"

I smiled, "Welcome to Homicide, Kris."

Kris' POV- Earlier

"It started after you left for the day. Ma and I were looking into a lead and I was teasing her a bit because Crowe made a comment to her earlier…"

"I hate it when they say that I'm whipped! I am not whipped," Jane told me as she drove the car.

I smirked at her and replied, "You're as whipped as I am. I've known that since day one when I met you."

Jane looked at me with a surprised look. "You're siding against me," Jane stated.

"I'm not siding against when we know both know that it's true. Crowe just happened to address it."

Jane grumbled, brought her attention back to the road as she stopped at a light. She looked at me again then stated, "You're whipped too."

"I've admitted that multiple times, Ma. Nothing new and green light." Jane looked back at the road, pressing her foot on the gas. I noticed the small pout on her face and chuckled, "Ma, it's not that bad."

"I don't like Crowe…"

"Nor do I but let's focus on the case. You can handle Crowe later."

"Right," she agreed finally before we pulled up to the address of the apartment complex. We stepped out of the car, walking up the staircase of the complex then asked, "Do you think he's still here?"

I checked my watch and replied, "It's four in the afternoon and it just finished raining." We took the elevator up to the fourth floor then approached the door. "What are we dealing with again," I inquired.

"College student. He's one of those preppy kids so either we'll get an ass or not," Jane retorted.

I stepped toward the door, knocking it loudly as I announced, "Colin West? Boston Police Department."

"Go away," a voice retorted suddenly.

I rolled my eyes and Jane stepped up, "We just need to ask a couple questions."

"Fuck off!" His voice was louder this time, making us realize that he was moving away from the door. I looked at Jane who placed her hand at her sidearm, as did I then moved toward the side of the door.

"Don't make this difficult, Mr. West," I stated. I glanced over at Jane and asked, "We have a warrant right?"

"Of course," Jane replied.

We then heard a loud rattle inside, making me look at Jane with a questioning look. She nodded at me and as I fast as I could, I kicked the door down to see that the window was open and he was about to climb out. "Oh no, you don't," I shouted as I tried to pull him back inside, however I had no grip on a shirt for he was wearing no shirt.

"He's running down the ladder," I told Jane as I ran backwards. "I'm going to try to cut him off in front."

Jane peered out of the window then looked back, shouting something but I didn't hear it as I ran down the staircase. As I was bolting out of the apartment, someone crashed into me, making me land on my back in water and mud. I cringed in pain as I flipped them over and I looked down to see that it was our suspect.

"Kris," Jane shouted.

"Got him," I replied, wiping the mud off me. I cuffed him and began to recite his Miranda rights before I looked up at Jane to see that she was trying not to laugh. "What's so funny," I inquired.

She pointed down and I followed the direction to realize that not only was he missing a shirt. He was missing pants in general. I cringed a bit as I looked at Jane who lifted up a pair of sweats, handing them to me. "I tried to warn you," Jane informed me as I took the sweats.

R&I

"Hey Marx. I heard you got tackled by a naked guy into some mud."

I looked up from my paperwork, peering over my glasses at Crowe and his partner, Andrews. "I wasn't tackled," I retorted, noticing at the corner of my eye, Korsak trying not to listen in.

"Uh huh. Sure. Then explain this."

They then turned the monitor to reveal a video of me exiting the apartment building then the suspect tackling me with the mud flying. I frowned while Crowe and Andrews laughed harshly. Crowe turned the computer back while I stood up, placing the paperwork back in its folder and began to walk away. "Night Vince," I told Korsak as I placed the folder on his desk.

"See you tomorrow, Kris."

"Don't forget to look both ways, Marx."

"Funny," I retorted in sarcasm as I removed my glasses, placing them on the top of my head.

"Hey Marx," Crowe called out.

"What," I barked back.

He smirked and gestured to my forehead, "You got some mud leftover."

I huffed in displeasure while I wiped the dry mud slowly off. I flicked onto Crowe's desk causing him to furrow his eyebrows in displeasure while I walked away, huffing.

Maura's POV- Present time

I tried to control my giggling as Kris pulled the video of her being tackled. As I watched her body hit the ground, I commented, "It doesn't sound so bad but I should check your back."

Kris rolled her eyes but turned around. I ran my hands along her shoulders while Kris stated, "I was getting the same comment until I reached the parking lot."

I gave a sympathetic look toward Kris, pressing into her back causing Kris to flinch. "You may have a bruise there," I informed.

"That's not the only thing that's bruised," Kris sighed.

"Kris, it will blow over sooner or later," Jane replied as she hugged Kris.

Kris peered up tiredly, "You promise?"

"Of course and don't worry about Crowe."

"Why was the suspect naked anyway," I inquired curiously.

Jane chuckled while Kris answered, "The guy had a bit too much alcohol in his system. So hungover that he decided to take off his clothes." I let out a small laugh while Kris gave a light chuckle, letting some tension on her shoulders go. She the stood up from her chair and stated, "I'm going to check on Tommy."

We watched as Kris walked out and I looked over at Jane who held a small mischievous look as she was scrolling down her phone. "What are you up to," I asked suspiciously

Jane looked up and smiled, "You'll see…"

R&I

"Thank you for the car ride, Maura," Kris stated as she unbuckled her seatbelt.

"You're welcome, Kris," I replied as we both stepped out of the car. As we were walking toward the door of Headquarters, we noticed immediately that there's a small group at the front. I looked at Kris and asked, "I wonder what's going on?"

"Me too," Kris wondered.

We got closer before we pushed through the crowd to see Crowe. He looked furious and pointed at Kris. "You," he shouted as he stormed over, "you did this."

"What did I do," Kris asked with confusion crossing her face.

"You did that to my car," he pointed back.

Kris and I peered over and Kris tried to stop the laughter that was about to erupt from her lips. Sitting in all of the seats of his cruiser were five clown dummies with horrifying grins. Kris looked back Crowe and replied, "I can't claim this lovely work of art."

Crowe's anger seemed to deepen before I stepped forward and stated, "Detective Marx just arrived with me, Detective Crowe. There was no way that she would be here two places at once."

Crowe continued to stare at Kris for a bit before he looked back at me. He shook his head then spat, "Whatever…fuckin' clowns."

As he walked away, we began to climb up the stairs before I asked, "Why would he be so upset about clowns?"

"Because he's deathly afraid of them," we looked up to see Jane leaning against the doorway with a cup of coffee in her hands.

"Should I ask if you were involve with this?"

Jane shrugged, "I might know a guy who works in a prop shop."

Kris smiled brightly at this. "Thanks Ma," she stated as she gave Kris a quick kiss on the cheek then entered Headquarters.

I moved closer to Jane and stated, "You wanted her to feel better about herself." Jane gave a small smirk and I shook my head gently. I then leaned in, kissing her lips gently as she kissed me back. "I love you," I whispered against them.

"I love you too," Jane replied.
