Attention! Attention All Hosts!
Chapter 24: Kyon's Past with Haruhi Revealed
Haruhi's point-of-view (This is just her story. I'm too lazy to put quotations all the way through. Sorry everyone.)
Kyon has always been different from what most people consider normal. That was true from the moment I first saw her. There was only one person that could even begin to understand how she felt. She lost her father in a way that was so different from most people. He left her, Kyo, and their mother without warning. Kyo is probably the only person that can understand how she feels about that. When we first met, the 3 of us were only 4-years-old. We were in a small preschool that was very inexpensive. She was always alone with Kyo. I thought they were just shy so I went over to them one day to start a conversation. Kyon gave me an indescribably evil and scary glare so I left and stayed away for a month. Then I tried again. She gave me the glare, but I used all my courage to push past the fright.
"Hi there. My name is Haruhi Fujioka. I noticed that you 2 are always alone."
"Go away. You're a stupid, ugly, annoying girl and so far, I hate you and everyone else here," was the only thing Kyon said. Even Kyo seemed surprised by the anger, hatred, and venom in her voice. Each insult stung me deeply. Tears filled my eyes and I ran off crying. I stayed away from them for the rest of the year. I met them again in kindergarten. We had the same class. She was still a hateful little monster. I thought that everyone needed friends so I tried talking to them again with exactly the same result until we reached fifth grade. That conversation went differently. Everyone was playing outside. Her and Kyo were alone at the swings. I stomped up to them with my own glare in place. When they looked up at me, my glare disappeared at the tears and hurt expression she had.
"What's wrong?" I asked her. She sniffled and turned to cry in Kyo's shoulder. He had the same expression on his face with the same tears falling from his eyes.
"Our father doesn't want us anymore. We're finally getting used to the idea. He left us and our mommy when we were 4," he answered for them both. Kyon nodded with more sniffles. I ran off and returned to them with tissues.
"Here. The box said that these tissues are soft. They should help. My mommy died when I was 8." Kyo took the tissues and gently placed some in Kyon's hand. She sat up and they both used the tissues on their eyes and noses.
"Thank you Haruhi Fujioka," Kyon told me softly. I was surprised that she remembered my name. Apparently my shock was obvious. "We never forget someone that tries hard. You have tried the hardest though. I'm so sorry. I thought that if I pushed people away, our father would come back to ensure that we have enough love in our lives. He decided that getting engaged was a better idea."
"You never really hated me, did you?"
"No. You were the first person that had tried to become our friend."
"Can we be friends now?" Kyo asked. He had decided that Kyon had reached her limit of talking.
"Do you want to be?" They both nodded in response to my question. Their movements were the same during our entire conversation, which scared me a little, but I got over it. "Then we're friends." The look of pure joy they both had proved that I had made the right choice. Kyon made a complete turn-around from the kid I had talked to at first by the time we became sixth graders. It was actually surprising. She was so nice and sweet. She never showed any anger, but she was awfully shy. She made no effort to make any new friends while Kyo turned into a social butterfly. She kept her world as me, her, and Kyo. I asked her about it once.
"Hey Kyon, why don't you ever try to find more friends? The more friends you have, the happier you'll be."
"I don't need anyone else. You and Kyo are so supportive and great. I don't need more friends. Meeting extra people kind of scares me. It's unavoidable though. I have to meet 4 people tomorrow night. My father is forcing this upon me and Kyo. There's some party and we are invited, but our mommy is not." She sounded so sad that I left the subject alone, and I have never brought up the party or her amount of friends again. Don't bring it up. She might get super sad. Then you will have the entire host club and her mother after you. This is for your own safety. We entered middle school and got the same class once again. It was like fate for us to always get the same class. We had a lot of fun that year. We had a fun conversation about dating. She started the conversation.
"Hey Haruhi," Kyon had told me slyly. I remember giving her a strange look.
"What is it?" I asked once I returned to my book.
"Do you have a date for the spring formal?"
"No."
"Awwww! Why not?"
"I'm not interested in anyone."
"Kyo! Haruhi doesn't have a date! We need to get her one!"
"Are you sure we shouldn't focus on you first?" he replied to her. She started to blush and deny anything about wanting a date. That made Kyo realize something. He gasped at her and gave her some look that I am still trying to identify. "You don't."
"That's right. I don't," she said nervously. It was followed by a nervous laugh.
"Kyon, that is exactly what he wants!"
"I know! I can't help it." Her blush was even darker.
"You're the one that wants to ruin all of his expectations!"
"I know! I just can't help it with this one! Have you seen the guy?"
"Yes! You are not dating him!"
"You can't control that!" She never got mad. It was just a lot of loud whining really.
"Well I am! You will not date him and that is final!"
"You guys are weird," I said. That stopped them from starting a real fight. They have only ever had one-sided arguments. If they start their first fight, I wonder if they will ever be able to stop.
"Haruhi," whined Kyon.
"That's mean," Kyo whined after. They both gave me puppy dog eyes. I smiled at that and stood up with my book. "Kyo do you have a date?"
"I do."
"Kyon, you don't have a date."
"Correct!"
"Let's go as friends."
"Oh my gosh Haruhi! You are a genius!" She made me laugh. We went to the spring formal together and only did dances that were fast-paced so I didn't need to know how to waltz for that. Kyon was so outgoing in our little group of 3. I enjoyed that. I think that was when she was happiest. That wwas our last year together before she moved to America. She's back now and better than ever. The host club has grown on her. She isn't afraid to get mad. She can actually do it now. I have never seen her open up so much. I have a favorite time from this year that I haven't told any of the hosts about. One of them was there when it happened. We were at a café and she was really depressed so I was letting the club become idiots in front of her to make her smile or at least laugh. Her and Kyo were trying to make me embarrassed and say that I liked Tamaki-sempai. I decided to turn on her.
"We haven't really had time to talk about the things we like currently," I started. "I mean some of the things I like have changed so I'm guessing that it did for you guys too." They exchanged looks then turned back to me.
"I've realized that the things you like have changed," started Kyo.
"Like now you like Tamaki-sempai," Kyon finished. I felt my eyebrow twitch in irritation.
"You 2 are reminding me an awful lot of Kaoru and Hikaru," I said in an angry voice. "That's not what I meant though. But we can get into that if you want Kyon."
"What do you mean Mrs. Haruhi Suoh?" My eyebrow twitched more at her teasing remark. I smiled at her. I saw her eyes take on a confused look.
"I mean your crush Mrs. Kyon Ootori." I heard Kyoya-sempai lightly choking on his coffee. Her face stayed in the confused look.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. So when are you going to confess to Tamaki-sempai?"
"I'll confess to him once you confess to Kyoya-sempai."
"I don't like Kyoya-sempai."
"Prove it to me."
"How do I do that?"
"Insult him with at least 20 insults."
"How? He may be mean at times but he's nice at others. Plus he has the good looks that every member of the Host Club has. And he's smart. Although I find him irritating sometimes. He at least lets me sleep most of the time."
"I'm still trying to figure out why he lets you do that. Maybe he likes you." I dropped the hint. Kyon laughed in a fake way.
"That's funny. But I do like your idea of talking about what we like now."
"Yeah. That was a great idea Haruhi. We couldn't help but tease you though," Kyo finished our teasing battle. We spent the rest of the time talking about the 2 years we had spent away from each other. The host club made her laugh. Kyo helped us once I told him the plan. It was amazing and now Kyon is just Kyon. She's having some problems but it's still my best friend. She's the girl I am happy being friends with and I'm sure she won't change who she is anymore, even though it would be really easy for her. She's sweet enough to know that I couldn't take her being somebody she's not and not change herself because of how I would feel.
Me- That's Haruhi's story. Next is a normal chapter. Then maybe another story. I don't know yet.
Kyon- *Hugging Haruhi with tears* I'm so sorry for being such a mean person to you Haruhi!
Haruhi- It's ok Kyon. I promise it's ok.
Kyo- I'm sorry for not stopping it! *Joins hug with his own tears*
Haruhi- It's ok Kyo. I forgive the both of you.
Jason- Now I only have to talk to Kyo, their mother, and that damn black-haired pretty boy!
Kyoya- She's mine. Go find someone in America.
Jason- I told you last time we had this argument that I am not going to do that!
Kyoya- You also told me the real reason you came here!
Jason- Shut up 4-eyes!
Kyoya- Go away and never come back!
Jason- Like I'd listen to you!
Kyoya- You better.
Me- Boys! Shut up! Stop arguing!
Kyoya- You can't tell us what to do!
Me- Don't fight with the author.
Tamaki- You forgot about Honey-sempai and Mori-sempai, didn't you?
Me- No! I just didn't know where to put them.
Hikaru- You forgot.
Me- Nuh-uh!
Kaoru- Don't lie to yourself.
Me- I'm sorry! They get to do the disclaimer with Kyoko all by themselves!
Takashi- Amii doesn't own OHSHC.
Mitskuni- She doesn't own us either!
Kyoko- She owns me and my family and Jason.
