Keith woke the next morning to Lance groaning in pain from the lights of the morning cycle's bright lights hiding her face in his chest. "Turn it off" Lance mumbled.
"Good morning, baby" Keith chuckled "Guess you drank a little too much last night huh?" Keith teased
"No, I didn't I was totally fine" Lance argued weakly.
"Right and that's why I had to carry you home last night while you were passed out drunk and why you have a huge hangover" Keith pointed out and Lance groaned
"It wasn't that bad was I?" Lance asked
"You tried looking for a highlighter at one point" Keith mused.
"Why would I do that?" Lance asked scrunching up her nose
"You wanted to highlight everyone's faces because we're all important" Keith recalled with a fond grin. Lance burst out laughing.
"But you guys are! You're my family now" Lance smiled
"Speaking of family" Keith hummed "Have you told Allura yet?" Keith asked shifting his head to look down at her.
"No, I guess between freaking out over Mia and all the attacks and missions I haven't really had the chance" Lance admitted shyly
"Sooner you do the sooner we can get rid of Mia and hand her over to what's his face" Keith huffed and Lance perked at the idea. However, her alertness changed when familiar whispers echoed in her head. Lance was out of bed in a second with a stone faced look, glad she was still dressed she grabbed her bayard "Hey, Lance!? What's gotten into you?" Keith called
The sudden change had him following suit grabbing both his knife and Bayard. He ran after Lance who had her sniper at the ready as they made their way to the hanger. Lance seemed to be searching for something. When she spotted the problem. Lance face contorted into a look of pure anger. "Keith we need to wake the others" Lance demanded.
Concerned he walked over to her as she picked something up from behind once of the supply stacks in the hanger. What he saw in her hand had him shocked. "How the hell did they get in here?"
"We were all out except for Mia and Coran. Coran would never let the Galra sneak in, Mia however…" Lance trailed off
"Maybe they were left there from Sendek" Keith suggested. Lance turned and looked at Keith in shock. "Look, Lance, we can't jump to conclusions."
"It would explain how they've been finding us" Lance growled. Did Keith really want to defend that woman? Why?
"Lance, we can figure it out. I'm not saying you're wrong but we can't tell for sure" Keith tried to reason. She didn't understand herself why she was so angry at Keith for defending Mia when he was right, they were protectors of the universe, and Mia was part of the universe she can't accuse them without evidence.
Lance wanted to snap at Keith, he could see it but she was stopped by the hanger door opening and a Galra fighter glided right with a couple of others and four or five exited each of them with scary efficiency.
Keith and Lance were at the ready within seconds "Explain that then Keith" Lance growled. Keith sighed and Lance quickly slammed her hand in the emergency alert button before charging Keith at her back as she fired away.
They watched each-other's backs with practiced ease. Lance used her anger and the skills she learned from Luthais and took a few down. Not long after the glow of Shiro's hand could be seen in the fray along with green and pink blurs and the boom of hunk cannon.
But before the last one went down they managed to land a blow on Lance's shoulder, his sword cutting right through her left shoulder making her drop her gun in shock. Before the Galra could land the killing blow to her she pressed her fist into the opposing Galra and an Astral blade sprang from her knuckles.
Once the enemy Galra sagged to the ground Lance staggered away in pain "Lance!" Keith yelled worriedly as he ran towards her. But he was halted by the seething look in Lance's eyes directed at him.
"You believe she was so innocent now Keith!?" Lance hissed "Because no one here would have opened that for them"
"Lance we can't just assume it was her" Shiro reasoned
"Who else would do this!?" Lance shrieked.
"Mia wasn't even near the control room we can't know that she did anything" Allura pointed out
"Yea they could have figured out the entry codes" Pidge pointed out "We've done it" Lance watched her team in shock. They were siding with her? Over Lance?
"Come now Lance we need to get you into the pods" Allura pleaded when Lance took a step away. Lance looked to Hunk who looked conflicted.
"No" Lance breathed
"What? Lance you're hurt!" Keith protested. He could see it in her eyes. The trust she had built in them was crumbling rapidly and he needed to fix it
"No! none of you touch me!" Lance cried. Lance looked to the blue and Red lions but then ran in the other direction clutching her injured shoulder.
Keith was immediately after her but once he reached the hallways he lost her. Running to their shared room she was nowhere in sight. Mia was in Lance's old room so she wouldn't be there. He checked her spot for viewing the stars but she wasn't there so he returned to their room throwing his bayard aside before spotting the still shattered mirror in the bathroom and hurled his knife at the reflection of himself that he saw in one of the larger shards
Meanwhile Lance had hid in the training room, since no one would think to look for her there but she had to keep moving and make it back to the hanger before they found her. Lance had every intention of leaving. They had stood up for her when there was no possible way that the proof was there.
She left the training room managing to slip passed everyone who was on a hunt for her to her lion. Shiro had entered the training room after she left and spotted the trail of blood before contacting the other paladins "She's headed back for the hanger" Shiro alerted when he saw the trail seemed to go both ways.
He was worried for the girl. Keith had told him what Mia had done to Lance but he hadn't realised the extent. He will admit he should have told lance they would look into the lead maybe it would have calmed her from her anger.
However, he would have to live with the memory of the betrayed look on Lance's face. Meanwhile Keith had slid to the floor grasping one of the fresh shards in his hand and it cut through his glove slicing his flesh, blood dripping onto the floor as he broke down.
He had let Lance down.
The last thing he would ever see from Lance – The look of pure hate. Like hell he would leave it that way without a fight. And like that he was up again re-joining the search
