Frost: This is short so I apologies but I honestly couldn't think of much more to add. It probably would have been better if I had combined this and part 2 together but I'll let you guys be the judge. I'm also looking at some of the requests and will try and get started on those soon, after all I am on holidays now so I have all the time in the world to sleep, read and write
Sonic: He doesn't own us, Sega does
Caedmon: Please review as they help Frost keep his sanity and feel free to send in requests
"Will you sit still you insufferable rodent!" Eggman hissed as he tried to cut the cast off of Sonic's leg only to have the hedgehog panther hybrid jerk the appendage away from his hands for the sixth time in a row. The hedgehog sent the scientist a withering glare, ears pulled back to lay flat against his skull.
"I can't help it, your hands are cold and despite the fact that I've been living here for almost two months I don't exactly trust you when you're coming towards my leg with a sharp object." Sonic growled, eyes turning into fearful slits as the man once more tried to cut the cast free with a small but sharp pair of scissors. Eggman gave an aggravated sigh, reaching up to rub at his eyes from under his glasses in hopes of chasing away the oncoming headache. It was true that Sonic had been living with him for two months while his leg healed, the hedgehog quickly becoming a normal occurrence to see hobbling quickly through the bases halls. The boy had also become fast friends with Orbot and Cubot, the three of them always coming up with new ways to get under Eggman's skin like stealing his cookie stash or blowing up the kitchen which the man was still trying to figure out how they managed to do.
"You've been here two months, unable to use your speed and completely at my mercy. If I wanted to hurt you I would have a long time ago so stand still and stop being a child." Eggman spat, roughly grabbing hold of Sonic's leg and starting to cut away at the plaster. Sonic wanted to pull away but he didn't want to be ladled a child either so he stayed put, slitted eyes watching Eggman's every move. Eventually the cast fell away revealing slightly rumpled blue fur and a jagged scar running along the back of his foot and up his leg slightly.
"Well, that's healed a lot faster than I thought it would." Eggman mused as Sonic flexed his toes, black claws peeking out briefly before vanishing. He then hoped down from the table, gingerly putting his full weight onto his left leg and giving a delighted whoop when he felt no pain.
"I don't feel any pain, you actually made it better!" Sonic cried in joy, the human huffing in slight offense at the boys words.
"You doubted me?" He asked which had Sonic snorting an amusement.
"We all have to leave room for doubt Eggy." Sonic wagged his finger at the man who blinked at the young hero's words. The hedgehog stretched, wiggling his toes with a blinding smile upon his face before facing the human once more. "Thanks for everything you've done for me these past few months Eggy. If you hadn't found me…well I don't even think I want to know what would happen."
Eggman gave a huffing sigh, arms crossed over his chest as he turned away slightly, though his face was softer than it normally looked. "Well life would have been boring without you around hedgehog."
"Thanks though, I guess I'll see you next time you decide to attack." Sonic chuckled before disappearing in a flash of blue leaving only a small draft in his wake. Eggman stared after the teen, a small smile gracing his face as he did so.
"I supposed I will see you soon then boy."
(Line break)
It was like he'd come back from the dead when he stepped into the village. Everyone was up in arms, yelling, screaming, some even fainting before his friends pushed through the crowed and crushed him in a big dog pile like hug. Amy and Tails were crying, Knuckles was going on about how he thought he'd lost his side kick while Sticks was asking him if he'd been kidnapped by the government for experiments. It had him laughing at the familiarity of the situation as they all walked back to his and Tails hut.
"Relax guys, I just went for an extended holiday and lost track of time." Sonic assured them, his left leg giving a slight twinge at the blatant lie. The scar was nearly completely hidden by his shoes and the white tape but just peaking from under the white tape was a jagged white scar.
"Don't ever do something like that again Sonic, you really had us worried especially since Eggman also went quiet while you were gone. We thought he'd somehow captured you." Tails scolded his older brother who just gave a fixed smile.
"Maybe Eggy is just going senile in his old age." He suggested pulling laughs from all of them.
"We'll you're here safe and sound and that's all that matters." Amy sighed happily, bring out some snacks for everyone to eat. Sonic felt a slight pang of annoyance at her words seeing how he'd just spent the last two months recovering from a fox trap injury. But he couldn't hold it against her, she didn't know and he planned to keep it that way. If people found out that Eggman had been the one to help him they would assume fowl play but Sonic just knew the man wasn't out to hurt him.
The next few days went by like they always did, hanging out with his friends, fighting Eggman who had decided not to wait and eating burgers. But after a week of being back something happened that sent Sonic's word spinning. They were waiting for their burgers, Eggman was also waiting but seeing how he wasn't causing trouble they couldn't do anything about it. It was as Dave was bring over their burgers that he tripped on a box, sending it crashing to the floor. The items inside fell into view and everyone gasped at what they saw. Fox traps, lots of them littered the floor glinting in the sun light. Everyone wore expressions of repulsion except for Sonic who paled in horror, blood draining from his face.
Memories of pain, of feelings of hopelessness and fear clouded his mind as the scar on his leg flared up as if it was once again caught in the trap. He stumbled back, feeling terror crawling up his spine and he was vaguely aware of someone calling his name. The instincts he always tried to keep at bay surged to the surface as he felt his eyes turn into slits, a growl born of fear and anger bubbling up from his throat.
"Sonic are you okay?" Amy asked only to yelp when those unearthly slitted green eyes locked with hers and the feral growl surged past bared teeth. Those eyes turned on Dave, not caring of the wide horrified eyes staring at their owner as they glared hatefully at him.
"How dare you! You set those traps! You're the reason I spent two months with a bleeding wound in my foot! How could you be so cruel and inhuman?" Sonic yelled as he unconsciously drew his left leg closer to his body and thus drawing everyone's attention to it. They could see the silver scar creeping up his leg, disappearing under the white tape. Tails gave a strangled gasp, Amy a shriek of horror while Knuckles looked like he wanted to rip Dave limb from limb. Eggman could also be seen reaching for a hidden weapon, eyes dark with anger and hate.
Dave on the other hand was staring at Sonic in a new light, pointing an accusing finger at the hedgehog, "You, you're a hybrid!"
As soon as those words left his mouth people gave gasps and turned on their hero, faces full of disgust mixed with fear. Sonic's anger began to vanish as he realized what had just happened, what he'd just done. His ears folded back, eyes blowing up again to try and hide what he truly was inside. He debated running, but that wouldn't solve anything, he had nowhere to run too. Instead he straightened his back, quills flared outwards in a sign of defence and he allowed his eyes to turn into slits.
"Yes, I am. I am a hedgehog panther hybrid, my father being a navy blue panther while my mother was a honey yellow hedgehog. I don't care what you think of me, don't care if you think I am a freak or am disgusting because of my hybrid status. All I ask is that you remember all the times I have saved you, protected you and put myself in harm's way for you." Sonic spoke calmly while on the inside he was fighting not to have a panic attack. He watched as slowly, shame seemed to seep into their eyes as their shoulders slumped forward. Suddenly a small child walked up to him, a shy smile gracing their features as they held up a small flower towards him. Sonic blinked, eyes blowing up once more as he too smile before gently accepting the offered gift.
It seemed enough for everyone else as they too began to smile, some still looking distrusting at him but no longer with revulsion or fear. They then turned on Dave who was trying to discreetly clean up the fox traps. A police officer approached, cuffing him before he could run and confiscating the traps as evidence. And as this all happened Sonic couldn't help but think that if he had never gotten caught in the fox trap, he never would have come clean to the villagers or his friends about who he truly was and never would have been accepted as well.
