Chapter 25: The Twins meet the Marauders!

Fred and George Weasley were pranksters, through and through. So, it stood to reason, they would find information about past pranksters at Hogwarts interesting. So, again, it stood to reason they would learn about the Marauders. One could blame Peeves for this, as he had taken to singing the Marauder Theme Song whenever he saw a prank happening. So, knowing these 'Marauders' had to be famous within Hogwarts, the Twins went looking in the library. They found a copy of 'Hogwarts: A History,' 1980 Edition and then found reports of the Great Marshmallow War, and the origins of the Snowball War and Rescue of the Princess games that the whole School participated in. Being the devious little masterminds that they were, Fred and George figured out who the Marauders were, and so, when Christmas rolled around, they confronted their role models about it. Coolly.

The twins were beside themselves. Peter was grinning, Remus was sighing, James had schooled his features into the calm-with-mischief-sparkles look that drew them to him when they met him, and Sirius was slowly backing away, though he had his infamous 'I know something you don't' look on. Of the four, Sirius looked to be the only one who knew what was coming. "The... the... the Marauders. Here, before us." Now the other three were apprehensive. Then the twins threw themselves on the floor before the great pranksters. "WE BEG OF YOU TO TEACH US, OH GREATEST OF PRANKSTERS!" they cried. Remus and Peter looked sheepish, James wasn't quite sure what to make of the two red heads bowing in front of him, and Sirius was cackling madly.

"This is even better than the first time!" he crowed. The other three sighed, their shoulders slumping. They should have known. The twins were perplexed. "Ah, thank you for the laugh gentlemen. I'd be happy to help, but I think James would be a better mentor for the two of you. He was always the more innovative of our little group," Sirius said. James shot him a look that said, 'die painfully, traitor.' Sirius sent one back saying, 'better you than me!' James gave him his 'I'm going to poison your butterbeer' stare. Peter sighed and gave them both his deluxe 'I'm going to whack you with a crowbar if you don't shut up!' glare. The Twins were taking notes while Harry sat back in his chair, eyes closed and arms crossed, shaking his head at the silliness taking place before him. Severus was lightly smacking his head into the wall while Petunia was making hot chocolate. Lily was watching the proceedings with an icy mask. Then Marlene came in with a whining Oberon following her and Sirius jumped up to help, taking the escape path his son's arrival offered.

"You asked for this you know," Harry said softly as his godfather passed him. Sirius grinned at his godson, who was being 'too cool' at the moment.

"Yeah... but it's fun," he said. Harry snorted, opened his eyes and nodded toward his father.

"I'd watch out for your sheets. That may be the 'I'll poison your butterbeer' look, but it's a bluff. Of course, it could be a double bluff, but don't just check your butterbeer. Check everything. I'd rather not lose you, you big idiot," the youth said. Sirius shivered. James' eyes were promising death, or at least painful humiliation. Very painful humiliation. As in, public and painful humiliation.

"I'll watch my step," he said, not sounding as sure as he had before. James added a grin. "In fact... I think I'm going to take a vacation. Tell your father..."

"Oh no. I'm not misdirecting him. Not with such an obvious ploy. He'd see right through it. And then I'd be guilty of aiding and abetting a criminal. Sorry Paddy, you're on your own with this one," Harry said with a laugh. The boy then got up and strode over to help his aunt distribute the coco. Sirius whined a little, appearing to deflate. James chuckled evilly and the Twins eyes went wide as Sirius fell. The lesson to never tick off a Potter was re-enforced that Christmas day... though Regulus just laughed at his brother.

"Who thought a Slytherin would be so foolish?!" he asked from the floor, where he had fallen in his mirth. Remus shook his head and called for a mug of hot chocolate. It was better to stay out of that brother spat.
