Ready Or Not?
"Sandra?" Gerry called as he heard the door open.
"Yeah?" Sandra replied, Olivia ran past him and Grace soon appeared yet Sandra didn't.
"Where are you?"
"Sorry, I'm just cleaning Liv's shoes, she decided running through muddy puddles was a good idea."
"Ah, I rang the airport while you were out and booked a flight home for you all tonight. It leaves at 5:25."
"Are you that desperate to get rid of us?" Sandra stared at him straight faced.
"No, no! I just wanted to take something off of your plate." Sandra burst out laughing as she pulled him into a hug. "We have a couple of hours before we have to leave, so what do you want to do?"
"There's something I need to get done before we leave so I'll be in the kitchen."
"What about Liv?" Gerry asked.
"I don't know Gerry." Sandra sighed, "She's usually at nursery, I've never had to entertain her for this long and I'm running out of things she could do."
"What about sticking a film on?"
"You could try but I doubt she'll sit still for long enough."
"I'll figure something out. You just get on with whatever you're doing, what's your mum doing?"
"Don't know but she's old enough and capable of sorting herself out." Gerry laughed and then left Sandra to it in the kitchen.
"Sandra the car's packed up, are you ready to go?" Gerry called from the doorway.
"Just about, has mum managed to get Liv strapped in?"
"I think so."
"Great, I'll be out in a second." Making sure that Gerry had gotten into his new car, which was more sensible, she crept through to his bedroom and left an envelope on his pillow and then slipped some other stuff into his bedside cabinet and left.
"You took your time!" Gerry moaned when she got into the car. "You don't wanna miss a second flight!"
"I'm here now, stop moaning. Anyway I was just having a final root around to check we'd gotten everything."
"I could have posted anything you'd left."
"All the same I'd rather have it in the first place, can you drive now? Don't wanna miss a second flight because of you now, do we?"
He found tears forming in his eyes as he watched the girls pass through security, waving goodbye before they did. They'd promised to keep in touch and this time he hoped that it'd happen because he couldn't lose Sandra again and now Olivia.
