CHAPTER XXV

Over One Week Later…

Having just gotten out of the shower and into her Pyjamas, Maggie was rustling through her drawers getting together a few items that she would need to pack for the trip they planned to take after Roberta's funeral the day after tomorrow.

She had been surprised when Bucky came to her a few of nights ago with the idea that they needed a break, Billy more than anyone. His bright idea was that they could pack up for a week and go to her parents' house at the beach. Maggie had taken an instant liking into his way of thinking, and the idea of going 'home', struck at her heart and made her agree before she could have thought things through.

Of course it only took her about five minutes of wearing an excited smile for her excuses as to why it might not plan out well came bubbling out of her mouth.

For one, there was Billy. She didn't think he would be in a great rush to bury his mother and then think of taking a vacation. But she couldn't be more wrong, it turns out he and Alice had only been speaking about his wishes to get away for a little while. To clear his mind. So much so that he didn't want to put a delay on it and wanted to leave right after the funeral. Maggie had thought him a little hasty, but she could definitely understand not wanting to bury his mother and then come back and be cooped up in the empty house where she had died.

How on earth could she say no to him?

The other thing had just been work, and being as she still had all of her holidays untouched, and a wonderful boss in Julie who insisted it would be fine and that her schedule could be cleared. She'd never asked for time off before, not since starting her job so she had been nervous, mainly because she didn't want to hear no. Even she couldn't pass up the opportunity to go to the beach, and she really liked the idea of the four of them being there, especially Bucky.

She wanted to give him a release from the house too. Be somewhere else where he could be comfortable and not have to be looking over his shoulders all the time. She knew he would still, but she could work on getting him to lighten up.

She owed him; she owed him big after the past week. She might not have told him, but she would have lost her head if it hadn't of been for him.

She hadn't been able to bring herself to ask him about him leaving, the fact that he was still there was all she could focus on.

But she missed him. Right there as she folded up her panties and got them ready to pack.

Recently she had been wondering how spookily things happen. Like now for instance, as she stood in her bedroom thinking of him, and the next her heart is skipping a beat or too when she heard a knock at her window and saw him crouching on the other side of the glass. The rhythm of her heart wasn't all down to being startled.

By the smile on his face, she didn't worry as to there being a negative motivation for him turning up, and she stopped what she was doing in order to head on over to the window, opening it, more than willing to let him in.

"What are you doing here?" She had to gleefully laugh, "I do have a front door, you know?"

He'd always used the fire escape for some reason.

"Yeah well, I wasn't sure which number. It was easier this way" He continues to smile as he climbs on in, trying not look too long at her legs, as she must be hot because she is wearing what looked like Mickey mouse shorts.

"Cute Pyjamas" He couldn't help but comment, be believed if he vocalized what he was thinking, then it wouldn't be so hard on him internally.

Yes right!

"Oh…" She behaved in a conscious manner, covering her bum in case she was on show. "Well I wasn't expecting some tall, dark and handsome man to be knocking at my window at 9 o'clock at night."

"Tall, dark and handsome huh?" His smile turned smug for a moment.

"Well tall and dark… the handsome is questionable" She didn't want his head getting any bigger than it already was.

He sucks his teeth, disappointed, "That's not nice. And here I am, just wanting to keep you company and cheer you up, with that movie you were telling me about" He held up the thin rectangular case with a sleeve of a young boy.

"Home alone?!" She clapped her hands, like a silly school girl.

She was surprised he had remembered. It was only a fleeing comment she made a couple of days before about how whenever she felt a little down she curled up in bed and watched Home Alone. It never failed to make her feel better.

"Yep. Saw it at Billy's. He and Alice wanted some alone time so I thought, see what all the fuss is about. You don't mind do you?"

Truth is it had just been the excuse he needed to come over as he hadn't had the chance to see her today and something about that didn't seem right.

"Not at all. I was just getting a few things ready for Wednesday" She wasn't aware that she had followed up her words with an absentminded action that consisted of waving a pair of her panties at him until after she had done it.

She quickly screwed them up and threw them in her bag out of sight, and Bucky's senses were momentarily impaired as he looked into the bag after them.

"Oi!" She called him out.

"What?" he looked up innocently, "You were the one waving them at me"

Shit, that smirk!

Maggie's lady bits were doing the Ireland fling, and her stomach joining in for the fun of it. There was definitely something different about him over the past couple of days. He wasn't holding back so much, like he was thinking everything through before he said it. He'd been quite flirtatious.

"I was not doing that knowingly. Just…" She picked the bag up from the bed and put it on the floor. "I'm going to get some popcorn, you just get yourself comfortable and behave." She nodded to the bed and proceeded to leave the room.

"Oh and now you're inviting me into your bed. I guess you've missed me today" He called out, sinking down onto the end of the bed and taking off his boots.

"Be careful, Barnes. I'll make you watch it from the fire escape." She called on back.

"I'll behave, Flynn" He grinned to himself as he sat his shoes by her wardrobe, toes pointing to the door and laces tucked neatly in.

Things had changed for him, he thought it to be a series of things; Roberta's passing, supporting Maggie through her grief, the old ladies story of the young Roberta and yes, the text message. He was aware he had feelings for her, strong feelings that weren't going to go away. He still couldn't do much about them, but he could make the most of them without crossing any lines. He had been in her bed before, a few times now she had slept in his arms and he had managed to control himself. She needed a friend, she needed someone to hold her and appreciate her, someone to cheer her up. He could do that. He would do that. He was doing that.

He just couldn't take advantage of her.

By refraining from denying himself everything, it made denying anything sexual just a tad bit easier.

Reaching over he picked up the silver landscape photo frame, pursing his curled lips as he admired the drawing he had done for her. She seemed to be keeping it close, with its new home on her bedside table.

"I look at it when I can't get to sleep and imagine I'm there" Maggie re-announced her entrance with ruffling of the bags of goodies she had gotten for them to share.

"Does it help?" He placed it back in its rightful home.

"Yeah. You're an amazing artist you know."

"I'm alright" He played it down with a shrug, she just rolled her eyes as she tends to putting the DVD in the TV so they could make a start with the movie.

"How are Billy and Alice?" She asked as she comes to climb on the bed, tucking her legs under herself.

"Yeah they're okay. Alice made dinner; it was really nice I ate your portion too. They thought you were coming over tonight"

Her chest grumbled, "I know, but… Kate kinda turned up…"

Bucky paused from filling his mouth with corn, "Oh. How did that go?"

"Not too great. Apparently it made it worse that I'd been avoiding her calls all week… I know I know I said I would call her but I wimped out." Her eyes cast down, guilty.

"You don't have to explain yourself to me. He should know the truth…" He attempted to make her feel better but deep down it might even make things worse.

"I didn't do it on purpose. And you should have seen his face. And hers. I should learn to keep my big mouth shut."

"Yeah" He agreed, and flinched away when she goes to playfully lash out.

"You aren't supposed to agree with me!"

"I thought you liked when I'm honest with you. You know what I think… yes he needed to know but maybe not in the way you told me… okay you didn't exactly tell him but as good as. What did she have to say?" Bucky asked.

"Oh you know, I have a big mouth, I ruin everything, and I plague her life. That sort of stuff."

He furrowed his caterpillar brows, "She really said that? I know I've never met her and she's your sister but I don't think I really want to"

"She isn't that bad and in ways I deserve it so… I let her off. She's my sister. She knows she would have done the same thing – if not worse. If she saw us now she would have me wrapped in a straightjacket and well she'd probably have a gun pointed at your head."

"Yeah. Why I don't want to meet her" He lounged back on his elbow and spoke with his mouthful.

"Oh frightened of a girl, Mr Macho Man?" She teased, throwing a piece of popcorn to him and her eyes light up in amazement as he dipped and caught it with him skilled mouth.

"I'd eat her alive."

Maggie narrowed her eyes, "You would do no such thing!"

That mouth is mine!

"Speaking of, if you were in a situation where you were trapped in the Andres, no food and the guy you were with is dead. Would you starve yourself to death or eat the dead guy?" She asked so nonchalantly as though it was the most normal question in the world.

Bucky however is eyeing her with worried eyes, "What kind of a question is that? I thought I was the disturbing one!" He chortled, in astonishment.

"Oh come on, play along" She fluttered her talented lashes at him.

He shook his head and helped himself to the bag of pistachios, "Well I wouldn't be in that situation so…"

She was narrowing her eyes at him again and he wasn't going to get out of it, "Fine. I would eat the guy"

A little over a month ago his answer would have been completely different.

"What about you?" He turned the tables.

"Me? Oh I'm useless with things like that. I'd just curl up in a balls and freeze to de-" She caught herself, realizing what she was in the midst of saying.

"It's okay you know…" He rolled his eyes slightly, "You don't have to be careful what you say. But I know you wouldn't do that. You're a survivor. You'd keep kicking. And if you didn't and let yourself die, I would kill you myself"

Maggie's left eye squinted, "And how would that work out?"

"Oh, honey, I'm a determined man when I want to be. I'd find a way" He said with pure conviction, it's just a shame he is struggling to open the shell of the nut with his two thumbs, the bionic one not being much help so he just pinches it with his fingers and crushes it open.

"I'm sure you would" She said in a bit of a daze watching him.

Once upon a time she was just that nut, able to be crushed by him. Now not only did she like to think that things were different, she knew they were.

Maybe many people in the world would condemn her to hell, and believed she deserved being hurt for being stupid enough to let him into her life never mind her heart. Good thing for her she'd never really cared too much about what other people thought.

"What are you thinking about?" He caught her mid-daze.

"A lot of things. Do you really want to know what goes off in the minds of women?"

"No… just one woman" He cocked his head.

He puts a smile back on her face, "Well this woman was just thinking… how things had changed for her. And before you start getting all self-judgemental, I mean it in a good way. I suppose I'm not really doing much now, but my life before it wasn't really anything special. And I know that sounds pathetic saying that to you but that just how I feel." Her head bounced matter-of-factly.

"It isn't pathetic, Maggie. We all have our lives and each one is different but to us all our own issues are just as equally important."

"You know you can be quite philosophical when you want to be… your way of seeing things, it's quite beautiful."

"That's because I'm surround by beautiful things" His azure orbs hold onto hers, and ruddiness crept into her cheeks, she didn't need to be shallow to feel as though maybe he thought of one of those things was her. He did know how to make her feel beautiful, and more than the adequate girl she thought herself to be, usually.

"Now put the film on!" He nudged his head, making his demands. He could see he was causing a twinkle in her eye. As much as he liked to see it, that wasn't why he was here.

He had obviously wanted to put an end to any mushy talk, so she did as he asked and for once they are behaving themselves and wrapped themselves in the movie and she was glad to see he was enjoying it.

He had been pessimistic about the movie at first, from the sound of it, it was just some kids Christmas movie, but she had assured him that it was much more than that, so he gave the TV his attention, and by the time Kevin was faced with the antagonists, he was laughing like one big kid.

Maggie had seen the movie a million and one times but as she lay at the end of the bed on her stomach, her feet are in the air and she is laughing away too. Majority of it was caused because he was finding it so funny and involved in the movie.

She could feel him tense along with her when Marv is walking up the basement stairs and winced when he stands on the nail. He even clucked when Happy gets feathered, making the scene all the funnier, but it is the scene with the spider that got the best reaction out of him.

"I know I'm in the presence of a lady, but Fuck me!"

Maggie guffaw is rough on her throat, "You… you wimp! That's what gets you? Iddy biddy Spiders?"

"Iddy biddy? Maggie it is a goddamn Tarantula! Yes I would have a problem with it if it was on my face!" She watched the shiver consume him over her shoulder.

She dropped her face into the comforter and kicked out her legs laughing, while she made sure to store the information because it might just come useful.

"So you're trying to tell me you wouldn't scream like a girl?"

"Yes, yes I would. But I am a girl! You… you are He-Man! Even thought I would pay to see you screaming like a little girl"

He puts a halt to her teasing by locking his arm around her ankles and tackling the soles of her feet with him natural fingers, and the only screams being made are coming from her as she began to thrash around violently, begging him painfully to stop between blasts of her hilarity.

It seems like forever she is pleading, and squirming attempting to free herself from his torture, but it is no more than fifteen second at the most as she cried out she is going to pee herself, as much as he was taking delight in the moment he wasn't prepared to call her bluff with that one, there is another noise coming from her and it wasn't coming from a northern orifice.

"Did you just…?"

He didn't need to ask, her face is the same radiant colour of her hair and her eyes almost falling out of her sockets.

He just sat there, his body violently shaking while a repeated wheezing knock came from his chest, his shoulders bouncing up and down, and Maggie jumped up off the bed, grabbing her pillow as her weapon of choice before beginning her attack.

"Laugh it up Muttley. Never heard a girl fart before?" She managed to get a good four or five hits in before his laughter subsided just enough for him to intervene and a tousle to start between the two.

He handled her with care, but she can be quite strong when she was determined, they begin their battle, a tug of war with the pillow and she is all bone, elbows and knees trampling all over him.

"Jesus Christ! You weight a ton!" He cried out mid laugh.

Gaping for s second or two she resumed her attack, "I'm that heavy am I?" She knelt on his lap, making sure to push herself down as hard as she could on his thighs.

He began dancing around under her, cursing and make her give a little jig as he tried to shake her off. This time it was he that succeeded but only because she was losing her balance and she thought she would have a soft landing but instead she was slipping and suddenly before her was the floor and she squealed out, her hands out in front and closing her eyes tightly to embrace the fall.

Her hands connect with the cool hardwood flooring, but without the force she was expecting and was angled half way into doing a headstand with her legs up in the air and a weight around her waist.

"Whatever the hell you do, do not fart again okay?" His voice is closer than she thought and somehow she managed to look around and see him holding her with his head by her ass and the laughter strikes again.

Part of her was tempted too, just to get him back for the heavy comment. But lucky for both of them she doesn't need to pass wind.

"Uh… now what do we do?" She asked, feeling the blood beginning to rush to her head and pins and needles in her toes, with her hair hanging in her face and tickling her nose.

"Well, you could apologize for abusing me" He suggested, keeping his face angled away from her ass for fear of doing something along the lines of biting it.

"Me?!" Her hands falter and she dropped a little but Bucky holds her where she is, "You're the one that called me fat!"

"If I remember correctly, I said you weighed a ton. Not that you were fat"

"Oh right… so I'm not fat. Instead you're saying I'm gigantic and weight the amount of a hippidippidotomous!" She raged, still upside down but he had begun pulling her back up onto the safety of the bed and once he had, Maggie was pushing her hair away and straightening her back, putting on a front as though nothing had happened. She hadn't farted nor had she fallen off the bed. But he was looking at her strangely, and seemed to be struggling to compose himself.

"A wwwww… a wwwwhat?" He looked constipated with his face all scrunched up.

"What, what?" She wasn't grasping.

"A hippidippi… what?" He snorted down his nose.

"A hippinipiotamus!" Okay even she couldn't have played nonchalant there and not mistake the error, and he was laughing again.

"A hippolotimous" She tried again.

His head fell back.

"Ughh… A hippiplopom… UGHH a goddamn hippo!" She reached over to backhand his bicep.

"You can't say it, can you? Go on… Hippopotamus. Say it" He sat up, enticing her.

"I can say it! I might have struggled as a kid but I can say it now!" She became increasingly defensive, sitting there on the heels of her feet with her arms crossed.

"Yeah?" He came to move closer, "Then say it."

"I said it correctly the first time. I won't be able to say it now because I'm thinking about it too much" She stated with a stroppy matter-of-factness.

"You didn't say it right the first time." He corrected, "Wow…"

Bucky sat back in amazement.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

All Bucky could do was sit there shaking his obnoxious head in humour, "Amazing!"

"Whaaat?" She became whiny.

"A girl, as intellectual and fierce as you, who likes to intimidate people… you can't even say Hippopotamus." His cheeks were raised and high, his eyes wild and sparkling and god it annoyed her.

"Well…" She began swaying her shoulders, attempting to be self-justifying in an intellectual manner, but what comes out of mouth was anything but; "Meh meh meh meh meh, it's a stupid word anyway!" She climbed off the bed and shook her foot, hoping to shoo away the tingling.

"Where are you going?" He is suddenly a little more serious. There weren't many places she could be going but she was still off somewhere.

"To change my panties, because you made me pee myself a little" She admitted blazenly without a speck of humiliation.

"Oh I see we've reached that stage in our relationship where you've lost dignity and don't mind farting and peeing yourself"

"What stage, and what relationship might that be, Honeybee?" She batted her lashes at him, a confident fist on her hip.

"You know what I mean…" He waved his hand, dismissing her, "Go change"

"Uh…" She wandered over to him, attempting to keep her playfulness hidden, "My room. My apartment, you can't be bossing me around here"

"Wanna bet?" He rose up off the bed "Or maybe I should head on home and leave you here on your own and…"

Maggie leapt in front of him, blocking his path to keep him from following through with his threat and she felt ridiculous for acting in such way because she knew he was just teasing her.

"Wow… I don't think I've ever seen you move so fast. You really do want me here. I'm shocked" He wasn't all that shocked to be honest, but he still enjoyed her uncontrollable eagerness.

"Shut up and tidy up my bed. You got popcorn everywhere and for god sakes take your jacket off man" She left him with a few of her demands, she held back from telling him to take all of his clothes off and get comfortable.

Skipping off to the bathroom wasn't something she did out of joy, just still waiting for the blood to settle in her foot and take away the pins and needles.

*T*C*

"I always used to love Christmas. It was my dream to spend it in New York" Maggie announced as they lounged in bed and she had managed to dig out the second Home Alone from her own DVD collection, since Bucky loved the first one so much, and she loved the movies herself.

"Used to?" He spoke before he can really think it through.

"Yeah… it's not really the same when you spend it on your own. I get to work now though. Might not be the big tradition dinner, family and presents under the tree but everyone tries and makes it as festive as possible. It's never the same as when you're a kid anyway. But even when I was seventeen, eighteen… god I couldn't sleep for the excitement. My mom would never hear it in her house that there was no such thing as Santa. She loved Christmas. And even though we were older they would wait for us to go to bed so they could put the presents under the tree."

Bucky watched the fond expression on her face, with a fondness of his own.

"Sometimes it was just the four of us, when we were really younger we would go and stay with my Nana and Grandpa, but as we got older she came and stayed with us most years and then go to my Aunt's other years. But no matter what… five o'clock Christmas morning I was stomping and banging around trying to get everyone up. My dad always slept downstairs, in case someone would break in…" Maggie chuckled and shook her head at the memories and her father's way of thinking.

"He could be a dork sometimes, but god he made me laugh with his weird ways. He would call up to me and tell me to let my mom sleep a little longer and would let me come down, Kate too if she was awake. That girl could sleep through anything. And he would always have a special present for us. He got me my first proper guitar and my…" Her hand travelled to her chest and fingered the dainty star necklace, with a tiny diamond chip at the core and a small heart pendant attached at the top.

"My mom always had a little moan at him that they had already spent enough on us, but then when it was just the two of them he would have a little extra gift for her and she'd melt. She always did, they had each other wrapped around their little fingers, but they loved each other. I'd sometimes watch them, be envious, scared I would never find someone who would look at me like my dad looked at my mom. Never find someone I would love completely, and for them to love me the same."

Bucky was propped there against the headboard, she had now rolled onto her front and was looking down to her fiddling fingers against her chain. While his orbs held a flicker of sadness, behind the blue lay something deeper, like a momentary portal right to his heart and soul, he feared that if she were to have looked up she would have seen.

See he was already on that journey, the journey you bark upon when suddenly your world and heart become revolved around one person.

God and he hated that he wanted so much to be that someone she had found.

"You've never had that?" He didn't ask out of fear of competition, he asked for the slight bit of selflessness he maintained, that he would let her go if there was a man.

"Naaah. Plus love like that… it's dangerous."

"Why?" He showed a hint of alarm.

"It always ends in disaster. My Mom and Dad. My Nana and Steve, Roberta and Willie. Romeo and Juliet. Jack and Rose"

"Okay… so maybe they are a few examples. Romeo and Juliet weren't real. And who are Jack and Rose?" He couldn't remember their names being mentioned before.

"Oh… characters from the movie Titanic. We'll watch that another night" She lay a pat on his solid chest.

"See… characters. A story. Maybe sometimes it doesn't end well, but some people have to enjoy it don't they? Else what would be the point in love at all? Where would this fantasy of growing old together come from? I didn't think you believed in spiritual stuff, superstition, and people being doomed."

"Maybe… Oh what do I know? I fell in love with a man who kissed me before we went on stage and kissed every other girl when he came off and knocked one up"

She could laugh about it now.

"Yeah well… he isn't worth pissing on if on fire. One day he'll be no more than a distant memory who you'll realize didn't deserve you or your heart. Just an immature little prick"

Her musical muffled chuckles eased, "That's all he is to me now. But you know… you really don't like him do you?" Her chin lay rested upon her palm.

"Do you really need to ask?"

"Guess not. But… that's the past" She laced her fingers together and stretched her arms out in front of her, laying her head on her arm. "For someone with little experience of love, you seem to have a lot of belief in it."

Much to Bucky's chagrin Maggie toes, that failed to stay still for no more than five seconds, were gliding up and down the back of her calf, envious of her power to touch and explore whatever part of her she wanted.

"So now you want to focus on the future?" Bucky said, managing to tear his line of vision away from the cream sheets of silk that were her legs.

"No… I want to focus on the now. That way the future can take care of itself. What is the point in planning your future and waiting for it to come when you have no idea if today or tomorrow is all you have left? And before you say it, I'm not being morbid. I'm being practical and honest… you of all people should understand the importance of that"

"But anyway," She clapped her hands, "Enough about me. I'm always talking about myself and you just sit there listening… it's time to turn the tables" She insisted.

"Everything about me has been publicized, you know it all already" He made a good point, but it didn't stop her.

"They couldn't know everything about you, James. Like… What's your favourite colour? Favourite food? How did you spend Christmas? What did you want from life? What places in the world have you seen and explored? Your favourite childhood memory? There ares loads that you still hold personal. I mean you don't have to tell me… but you would look like a dick if you didn't" Taking the time to run her tongue along her top set of pearly whites.

"Oh heaven forbid I was to behave like a dick, we wouldn't want that would we?" Bucky slid down the headboard, shuffling his rear to lay at a closer level to her.

"That's a lot of questions. So the first one…" He remembered her asking about favourite colour, "I can't say I really have a favourite colour, at least I haven't really thought about it. Green maybe…" He wasn't sure as to the lure of picking that particular colour.

"Food was the second question right?" He asks for confirmation to which she returned with a nod.

"Well… you know I like Pizza. You know my fondness for a steak meal at one time. I don't know, always had a sweet tooth as a kid, but now I would rather have something savoy." The mass clump of metal that was his arm came up to tuck behind his head.

"As for Christmas, it wasn't anything like yours really. Our tradition consisted of stripping down naked and doing our morning run in the buff, usually in the snow, so we would spend most of the day waiting for our balls to drop from our stomachs."

They simultaneously began to laugh, one remembering, and the other trying to her best to imagine.

"Well that sound like something I'd like to see"

"What me running around naked?" His mouth seesawed up the right side of his face, with a wiggling brow.

"No! Well… yeah but not just you. I wouldn't mind the view of a bunch of naked hot asses running off ahead" Maggie sucked in her cheeks, imagining it and fanning herself.

"Oh so we're all just meat to you are we?" He's pretty sure it would have been the men running to her, thinking their Christmases had all come at once.

"Well I think after all the thousands of year's women being nothing more than object of release for a man; we have the right to play along, have you worshipping at our feet for a change."

He had to give her that one, and gestured agreement with his head, "So that's what women want huh? A guy to be there ready to please you whenever you want and to run around after you like a lapdog?"

"Good god no!" She exclaims with revulsion, and he is confused as always.

"Because we like a man to love us, be loyal and isn't afraid of his sensitive side, it doesn't mean we want someone following use around like an obedient puppy. We still want a man, yeah maybe sometimes a woman can emasculate a man, a lot of them, but not me… If I'm wrong I want someone to tell me I'm wrong. If I'm being a bitch I want to be told. I don't want to be treated like shit, I just don't want one of those men who let the woman treat them like shit and boss them around because it makes for an easier life" Maggie reels off her requirements.

"Whatever you say, love" A smirking Bucky bounced his brow.

"Ha Ha!" She flicked his abs.

"Right then" Sitting up on his manmade elbow, "So what you really want is, a guy who would… do this for instance…"

He doesn't hesitate to raise his hand and bring it down upon her ass, "Get me a drink, Wench!"

Maggie's whole body jumped and willed with shockwaves, leaping her off the bed an inch or two before and collapsing back into its place, eyes were wild and mystified by the confident and forward man in front of her and the lingering sting against her ass cheek.

"EH! W…" She began but she is too gobsmacked. Bucky actually finds that he enjoyed leaving her speechless.

"What you waiting around for? I told you to get me a drink!" He kept up his act, his composed expression began to show its cracks.

She said it was what she wanted.

"I said I want a man to tell me if I'm wrong, not treat me like a slave" She sat up as they go face to face.

"Oh so it's all about what the woman wants is it? What about what the man wants? We're doing all this to please you, what about the woman pleasing him?" Bucky argues.

"Oh so you're saying all a man wants is a woman to fetch them beer, cook them dinner and go to bed at the end of the day and bend over?"

"No not necessarily… Bent over, underneath, her on top… we're not that picky!"

With force in her hands Maggie gave his shoulders a good push, he barely goes anyway but she is proud of her attempts and her face breaks out in a toothy grin.

"Ass!" She swung out her legs and hopped off the bed.

"Not a complete ass, remember? I'm just one cheek" A strand of black fell before his eyes and he scrapped it back.

With swaying shoulders, she paused for a moment by the door, "Well I'm upgrading you"

She left the room and he called out for her, wondering yet again where she was off to. She thought she was the one with the insecurity issues, worried people were going to leave her, Bucky seemed to have the same problem, and so much she couldn't even leave the room. For now she enjoyed it, but then again she was in a good mood. To be honest she was in an excellent mood and she didn't want the night to end. Things maybe complicated between them, she knew she had feelings – strong feelings, and she wasn't completely unaware, his behaviour wasn't all an act of friendship. He had feelings for her too, she had no idea the extent of those feelings, but she they existed. Right now she embraced being with him, she embraced the fact he wasn't just someone she fancied.

If that was the case it would constantly be awkward, they wouldn't be joking around, they wouldn't have this confidence to do the things they did, him slapping her ass for instance. If they were just two people, dancing around the attraction for one another, it would be boring.

"Okay so I thought of another requirement." She returned and putting his drink on the bedside table before climbing back on the bed. He didn't inquire any further for a moment, he wass too surprised that she has actually gotten up and got him a beer.

"You actually got me a beer?" He picked up the drink and tapped the neck of the bottle before taking a swig.

"Oh yeah… I spiked it with arsenic. You should treat your women better" Maggie plumped up her pillows, smug as she watched him halt, only for a split second. Shaking her comment away he took another gulp.

"I seem to be alive and kicking. Can't find being bossed around so bad"

"Mmm, well I have to play hostess." Laying back against the headboard beside of him, she took a quick glimpse of her phone, nothing there but a few Facebook notifications. She had yet to see to fixing the screen, but she would get around to it eventually.

Bucky might have lent in a tad, trying to be nosy. He hadn't forgotten about the reason her screen was smashed in the first place and he was nervous about it, but unless she had him hidden under the bed, this Dwayne wasn't there, only Bucky was. And he was satisfied that she wasn't texting him, nor any other man.

"So" There is a snap of her phone locking, "Back to talking about you." She rolled onto her side to face him, holding the pillow to prop up her head and he came to shift down so they were lying face to face.

"I forgot where we were. But I will tell you one thing, this bed is the most comfortable thing I've ever lay on" His whole body relaxing and melted against the mattress.

"I know. It's the most expensive thing I've ever bought, well other than my mortgage. At first I was embarrassed I had spent over four thousand dollars on a bed, but after the first night's sleep I'd have paid twice that much for how good I felt."

"Four thousand dollars? FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS?! Jesus Christ!" He was well away of inflation and that the particular figure of money wasn't necessary as much as it was seventy years ago, but it was an extreme amount of money to him, to a lot of people he would imagine.

"I know I know, but I got everything in with it and you even said yourself it if the most comfortable bed you've ever lay on" she tried to find excuses.

"Maggie I'm used to sleeping on rubber mats and camp beds, a fourty dollar bed would feel amazing to me"

"Ah but not as amazing!" She squished his nose with her index finger.

"You really are loaded then? I better start on a Christmas list" He snapped his jaw, frightening her finger away.

"I am not loaded! I'm just… financial fortunate. But extremely tight."

"Oh that would explain the hunk of junk of metal you used to drive around." Even to him the rushbucket had been on its last legs and it was best on a scrap heap.

"It was a reliable car for a time"

"Yeah in the 60's" He cut her off.

"Uh… well we don't all have the luxury of being old and still looking good. I'm definitely sure when I'm in my fifties I'll be getting a little rusty and needing some tender loving care. Because unlike you, we won't all be what? Ninety five and have the body of a god" Poking at his abs in envy. However she didn't envy how it all came about.

"Oh, the body of a god!" He smirked like a cocky bastard and she went to pull her hand away but he held it there firmly.

She swallowed hard, feeling each hard pillow of muscle through his t-shirt, wondering what it would be like to draw around every muscle… with her tongue.

"Don't go getting ahead of yourself, I could have meant Buddha." Her cheeks strain along with her neck as she spread her lips wide and their hands work together to bring it around his back.

"You're a cheeky mare you know that? But I'll let you off being as I somehow implied earlier you were like a Hippidiliotamus, or whatever you call them." Once her arm is firmly around him, with her fingers fisting the back of his vest, he could let his own fingers ghost their way up the stem that embraced him.

"Mmm" Her eyes drifted shut, not because of tiredness, but the feeling he is causing against her flesh. He is barely touching her, and if she felt past the light tickle, the sensations of tingles, the heat his hands were leaving behind and despite the shiver down her spine, his caress warmed her to the core.

"Can I… can I ask you something and you won't pull away from me?" She whispered, retracting her lids and met with the unusually cobalt blue of his spheres, speckles of silver contrasting beautifully with the streaks of black at the cure; the pupil pulsation with the rhythm of his hand.

He could hear her words in the echoes of her breath and he feared them, but with all his heart he wanted to hear them, "Yes…" he gave in, feeling himself ready for anything she was about to ask.

Maggie's bottom lip was being rolled between her teeth, absorbing moisture, suddenly feeling dehydration.

"I ask, without expectations or agenda, if things were different…" their voices had dropped to low murmurs as anything louder might burst their little bubble, "If we…" her beating chest and heavy breaths making her bosom rise and fall between them, "Could we… you know?"

She might have been speaking cryptically, but he was well aware of what she was getting at, neither of them were blind anymore. They saw the light in the other's eyes when they were alone, or when they were seeing each other first thing in the morning. They couldn't miss the lingering of sadness when they had to part and say goodnight. It was impossible to ignore the tender touches now and again. And it was also impossible for him to deny her his honesty.

"I would…" He began but took another moment of pause, deciding if to be coy or brutally honest. He wasn't sure which way his mind would go until the words have been spoken,

"I would make you mine… and never let you go"
