Slugterra Fanfic
Chpt 25: Current Events

A week later, after I woken up from my coma, I was permitted to leave the health ward but I had to stay inside the Citadel.
When Blakk had suggested I do so, I had felt a small hint of annoyance and anger rise up inside me but I was too tired and sore to feed it, so I simply agreed.
I could tell by their faces they hadn't expected such an easy win.
"Kaiya are you okay?" Twist had asked as he showed me to my room. I had a fuzzy recollection of where it was but I hadn't been so sure.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine." I waved him off and disappeared into my room without a single 'thanks'. All I wanted to do was sleep, to get rid of this tired, heavy feeling that was clouding my mind. I washed my face and did some stretches but even though I looked fresher, I still felt like I only had half my control over my body.
Eventually I gave in, locked my door and sank onto my soft bed. Jet joined me, my lap-pad held carefully in her jaws.
"Thanks, Jet" I mumbled as she joined me on the bed. I turned it on and scrolled through the news feed on the .
Zaylee Foxx reported missing.

Première Slugball tournament coming to Scorched Sparks!
Monster identified! Deep Cavern Intruder!

I was idly flipping through my news feed, none seemed to interesting to me anyway, besides, Twist or Nicole might spill some beans sooner or later. I'd find out then.

Stifling a yawn, I went onto my account and failed to notice I was already logged in as someone else. I scrolled through what I thought was my inbox and was taken aback by how many"Get Well" and "Thank You" Letters and emails I thought I had received. I sleepily scanned through, looking for any slightly important ones.
There was one from the Mayor, a couple from the Law Enforcement and Disaster HQ and a lot from the residents. If I had looked at least one, I would've noticed that they weren't directly for me but they were asking someone else to tell them how grateful they were.
I clicked the delete all button and all the messages disappeared. I'd put something up later to show that I was awake and okay-ish.
I went back to my news post and continued to scroll through, seeing who was on the 'Chat-List'. I saw that Trixie was online.
"Geez, does that girl ever do anything apart from mess with Blakk, save the day and be online with her silly videos and pictures?" I groaned while Jet flicked an ear in agreement.
However, to my complete surprise, the incoming notification flashed. I was getting a Video Chat request.
I decided to accept, since I had nothing better to do. Taking a quick look in the mirror to see If I looked decent, I pressed accept.
"Twist! You actually answered for once!" came a familiar voice from the familiar face that filled the screen. Eli Shane.
I quickly dimmed my room lights and zipped up my jacket. He thought I was Twist.
This could get interesting.
Eli didn't wait for a reply, he just kept talking, his gang huddled behind him trying to see the screen. His face looked sad and anxious.

"Look, I know I've pestered you with e-mails and messages about Kaiya but I really want to know if she's okay! I feel really guilty about being the one to cause this whole mess that she fixed. Please, just tell me if she's okay or if there is anything I could do to help."
Eli sighed, wringing his hair in his hands, "Look, just tell her I'm sorry. She'll probably hate me for what I did and I deserve everything she's gonna try to do to me but, since I can't talk to her, I thought you might pass on the message. Okay?"

During Elis talk, my eyes flicked up to the bar at the top of the screen. I was logged into Twists account, which meant he had been on my Lap-pad.

Grrr, I told him to stay away from my stuff! I growled mentally as I turned my attention to the screen once more.

"Don't worry", I said turning the light on so Eli could see who he was talking too, "I forgive you. Just…don't tell Blakk."
I grinned as Elis mouth hung open as he realized he had been talking to me the whole time.
"Kaiya…" He managed.
"Uhh..Hi? Oh! And I'll take you up on your offer to do anything. But I haven't decided what yet." I yawned and stretched, suddenly feeling a lot better.

"Uhh, well this is awkward." Eli looked at me sheepishly, blushing.
"Really? It's more awkward talking to me than saying all you did to Twist? Who happens to be a guy and your arch-rival?"
"And your boyfriend."
"HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND! As much as he wishes he was, he's not." My cheeks heat up as a yell at the poor lap-pad screen. Jet whines and pulls her head away.
"Noooo Jetty!" I whimpered.
Behind Eli, Kord whistled, "He just got friend-zoned."

I grinned again, my temper passing, "Yeah, and I'm keeping it that way."
Trixie laughed, "Good luck with that!"

"Thanks, I think I'll need it."
Eli just rolled his eyes, already bored"Well, I hope we won't see you very soon."
"You won't, I'm stuck inside the Citadel for recovery. Think you can spice things up?"
"Hopefully not, but you never know."
I waved goodbye and press the end call button, folding my device shut and heading towards my garage. Talking has suddenly made me quite keen to fix up my ride.

Seeing Skies in his shape for the first time made me feel sick. He was just a twisted lump of metal and wires in the distant form of a hunched over dragon.
It took me a few minutes to find the head but I found it nestled on a bed of wires, the armour almost completely peeled off, a huge dent in one side, wires sticking out everywhere and a huge Dark Urchin spike stickling out of his forehead, still crackling with electricity.
"Oh, Skies." I murmured. I dreadfully wanted to know what had happened on the day of the crash, why Skies was so messed up as he was now.
"Well, I'll have more luck examining you when you're standing up." I fiddled with my control panel on my gloves. I had a hazy memory of what it did but nothing special.
I instinctively tapped once and his eyes and other lights lit up.

I tapped again, thinking to myself for him to stand up, and he did!
He held his head high, back curved inwards, legs apart for balance and tail ready for action.
He would've looked superior if his back legs hadn't been bent, shrapnel wasn't buried in his armour and his armour had actually been attached.
I took of my worn leather jacket and put my hand on my hips, I had a lot of work to do.

Even though I didn't know it myself, I had spent four whole days working non-stop on Skies. I honestly had no clue of the time and what everyone outside of my room was doing. Jet brought me food and water, as my locked door allowed her exit and entry at anytime. I was lucky I had such a faithful assistant.

The first day, I cleaned Skies up. I took out all the pieces of shrapnel, replaced bent pieces of metal and then made extra pieces of armour.
I had trouble pulling out a huge piece stuck in his haunches, because as soon as I touched it, it gave me a quick zap, jogging my memory.
I had remembered seeing it fly past me, narrowly missing my side, along with lots of other little pieces of metal.
I tried hard to remember what else had happened but it slipped past my minds grasp.
Frustrated but also a tad relived, I continued my work.

The second day I repaired most of the main wiring in his body. I didn't do his head because I had to disconnect that completely to remove the spine in his head.
After the wiring was done, I checked his heart and engine. His heart was completely undamaged, that causing half of my worries to disappear, but the engines casing had a hairline crack in one of its siphons. I would need to get a replacement somewhere.

The third day I fixed his legs and adjusted them even more. I also redesigned his look and rummaged around in some of my spare part boxes, finding a spare siphon and hydraulic springs. Perfect!
I also completed my design and started to cut out the correct pieces of metal.

The fourth day I disconnected power completely, to the head. I carefully took away all the armour and replaced it, tinkered with the tension in his jaws and sharpened and straightened his teeth. I also changed his tail. However, I had repaired most of the wiring possible before trying to extract the spine. I had a feeling it would come out easily, without any electricity. Boy was I wrong.
I had tried to pull it out, but upon further examination, I saw it was jammed in by the jaw.
So, I connected the power to Skies head and gave the command to open his jaws.
His jaws slowly creaked open and a brittle crack rang out as the spine snapped, the bottom half hitting the floor with a dull ring.
And that's where everything went wrong.

At the exact moment when the spike broke, the dragon immediately froze, his eyes flickering between red and blue.
Something niggled in the back of my mind that this was a bad sign.
"Come on, think, think!" I pounded my head in frustration then yelped and ducked as Skies let out an earsplitting mix between a roar and a shrill scream. The noise reverberated around the workshop, echoing long after Skies jaws had snapped shut.
Jet was shaking under my bed as the Mecha lunged at me, his red eyes, crazy.
I leaped aside as his head smashed into the wall. I had seen his eyes look like that before. It was a facial recognition system or FRS. Well, sort of. It had obviously been corrupted by the Ghoul Energy in the spike stuck in his forehead. I had to get it out.
"Skies! Black Skies! Control yourself!" I yelled over cacophony that ensued.
Eventually I realized Skies was beyond obeying orders and I quickly ducked around the corner and bolted out the door, Jet close behind.
Once out in the corridor, I stopped and looked back. I could still hear Skies rampaging around in my room.
I prayed for him not to get out, not to come and find me while he was like that.
The FRS only worked for Slug Energy, Ghoul Energy turned it into a targeting system.
The door shuddered as Skies rammed himself against it and I knew he was coming after me.
Turning on my heel I sprinted down the grey corridors, the shrieking in my ears telling me Skies had gotten out.
