Future or Futures: A wager on an event that is happening sometime in the future.

Sighing in relief, Nick put on comfortable sweatpants and his favorite green t-shirt, thankful to finally be out of the ridiculous tux Schmidt had insisted he wear. Running his hands through his hair, he walked out of the bedroom wondering if Jess had fallen asleep on the couch. He hadn't heard any sounds coming from the living area since she had gone out there. It was almost 3 am, and he knew she was exhausted. Stepping into the room, he squinted his eyes to adjust to the bright lights outside illuminating the dark room.

Jess stood by the window in a fluffy white robe, looking out at the fountains in her own little world. Nick watched her lean her head against the glass with a soft smile across her face and and distant look in her eye. He slowly walked over to her, mesmerized by how lucky he was to have this woman in his life. He stepped up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. Her smile widened with a soft moan as she closed her eyes, leaning back against his chest.

"This is like my new favorite place. Can we just take this home with us?"

He laughed softly in her ear and kissed her cheek. "Maybe we could just get Schmidt to buy one of those rock waterfall things. Aren't they all zen or fungus sway or something."

She opened her arms and gently swatted him, pulling loose from his grasp. "It's called FENG SHUI, Nick." She turned around and snaked her arms around his neck, pulling him down for a kiss. His grasp tightened around her waist and he pulled her into his body, not able to get close enough.

He leaned back and gave her another quick kiss before smiling down at her. "So, engaged huh?"

"Eeeee," She couldn't contain her giddiness and jumped and down a little, pulling her hand down over his shoulder and onto his chest. "I can't believe it!"

He laughed, sliding his hands out from around her waist and pressing her wrists to his chest. "So who actually proposed, you or me?"

She threw back her head and laughed loudly, "Totally me!" Twisting her hand and holding her ring close to his face, "But this was all you, mister."

"Beautiful." Nick bent his head toward her without leaving her eyes, pecking his lips against the ring as he pulled her hips towards him.

"It is, isn't it?" She held her hand out on his chest to admire the ring, tilting her head to the side and smiling.

"Not that." Nick shook his head. "You."

Her gaze moved from the ring to his face and she smiled widely. She placed a hand on either side of his face. "I think my future husband is earning a lot of bonus points right now."

Nick swallowed hard and stared into her deep blue eyes. His voice cracked a little and he gripped her hips tightly. "Husband."

She watched his smile fade and her heart started to race, waiting for Nick's panic to start to set in. Only, it never did. He leaned in to kiss her and she felt him pour every emotion of the past year into the movement of his lips on hers. His hands found the tie on her robe and he tugged on it gently, reaching up to push it off her shoulders, his lips never leaving hers. The robe dropped to the floor and she pushed his sweatpants and boxers down over his hips. They stumbled backwards toward the couch and her naked body collapsed underneath him onto the soft white comforter the cleaning staff had left there from the night before.

He mumbled against her soft lips as he rolled on top of her. "I want to marry you, Jessica Day."

"Yes, Nick. Yes." She threw back her head, closing her eyes as his lips trailed across her cheek and down her neck. Her fingers tightened across his back and her diamond ring reflected the changing colors of the fountain lights streaming through the window.

Nick opened his eyes the next morning as he listened to the steady breathing of his new fiance sleeping next to him. He smiled and kissed the top of her head as she laid on his shoulder. He reached down and gently grabbed her left hand, which was laying across his stomach. He watched the morning light catch the diamond and he smiled.

Jess felt Nick playing with the ring on her finger and groaned, eyes still closed. "Miller, what are you doing?"

He let out a laugh. "Just making sure I wasn't dreaming."

Jess opened her eyes and rolled against him, her chin on his chest as she stretched her arm in front of her face. "Nope. I totally proposed to you last night."

Nick laughed, grabbing her arms and turning on his side to face her, trying his best to stay balanced on the edge of the couch. "I had a plan, you know."

SHe reached up to play with his hair. "Sure ya did!" She burst into laughter and grabbed his face in her hands, a frown across his lips. "But it doesn't matter, because we're getting married."

Nick leaned forward kiss her. "I love you Jessica Da" He froze, a huge smile forming on his face. The he whispered. "Miller. Jessica Miller."

She shook her head and closed her eyes. "God, that sounds so amazing." Bending her head forward, she sunk into his body and he relaxed and closed his eyes. The scent of her shampoo filled his nostrils as he took a deep breath and held her hand tightly. Absentmindedly, he twirled the ring around his finger as they lazily drifted back to sleep, completely relaxed in each others' arms.
