The Surprise That Would Change Everything-Part 25:
Angela had spoken to Jane and Maura and they were shocked to hear that Louisa had got worked up about something so silly. Maura had sat down with Louisa and spoken to her about it. The doctor had discovered that Louisa was scared about starting in a new school and was also scared that she would be behind because she'd been out of mainstream school for so long.
Maura had smiled and moved so she was sat by Louisa and informed her that the work she'd been completing was the same that the classes she would eventually be joining were also completing. Louisa just sat there and looked at Maura, still looking scared but less scared than she had done.
"When will I start school?" the girl asked.
"Once all the stuff and the court case is over. It shouldn't go on for too much longer," Maura said softly, "it's the best thing to do for your safety. But if it makes you feel any better Jane and I can take you for a look around the school before you start." Louisa smiled and nodded before she saw Bass moving slowly around. She got up and went over and patted his shell and gave him a strawberry.
Just at that moment the doorbell rang and Maura went to answer the door and was shocked to see her mother stood there.
"Now why didn't you tell me about the court case starting?" she asked before spotting Louisa on the floor with Bass and Jo Friday.
Maura showed her mother inside and made her a drink before the two got settled.
"Who is the girl and what is she doing here?" Constance asked.
"She is my biological father's niece, my younger cousin. Her name is Louisa and she's 12-years-old." Constance nodded,
"But how did she end up here?"
"We got called to a shooting, a gang shooting, and she was hidden under a blanket between some boxes and heard her father's murder. There was a picture of her and an ice pick, a classic sign from Paddy. The rest came out during the case."
The doctor then waited as her mother processed the information she'd just been told before noticing Louisa was watching her. She didn't know what to say. She watched as Louisa went over to the door as Jane had finally arrived home. Jane was unaware of Constance's presence as she hugged Louisa close before looking up and spotting the artist sat with her daughter.
Jane smiled and greeted Constance before sitting down with Louisa, who still hadn't said a word to Constance.
"Does Lou know who this is?" Jane asked. Maura gasped and looked,
"No she doesn't. I got so caught up in discussing thing I forgot to tell her. No wonder why she hasn't said anything," she said. Jane nodded before Maura held a hand out to Louisa.
The looked at Maura before going over to her.
"Louisa this is Constance. She's my mother," Maura said softly. Louisa nodded and looked at Constance.
"Hello Louisa," the artist spoke, "it's lovely to meet you," she added before waiting to see what Louisa would do.
"Hello," the girl said finally and Jane and Maura watched, smiling.
Jane and Maura rose from their seats and headed over to the kitchen leaving Constance and Louisa alone. Maura began to get more drinks now Jane had arrived home. She watched as her mother began to talk to Louisa softly, getting the impression. That the girl was uneasy around strangers. She was treading carefully, just like she'd done when she'd met Cailin.
Constance was surprised when Louisa sat down beside her.
"You're nervous of me aren't you?" Louisa nodded and Constance watched her, "I understand. You're scared of strangers because of what's happened." Louisa nodded again,
"You seem ok though."
"I'm Maura's mother so I'm ok," Constance smiled, "you have nothing to worry about." Louisa smiled and nodded as Jane and Maura walked back over to them with drinks as they carried on talking for a while, allowing Constance and Louisa to get comfortable and know each other better
