Another quickie in the midst of the exams!
Naming
Naming your OC/NPC is very important for many reasons; It can strengthen your story or add some lore behind it. it might describe the character's interactions/behavior, etc…
How to name your OC/NPC?
-You can simply borrow some already existing names like Leeroy/Anastasia….careful though, you must choose an appropriate one; Bombshell Miley the Firekeeper is just wrong. Also, if you are roleplaying, the nomenclature MUST be of same/relative origin. Imagine an eastern kingdom where two-part name is common (insert better term here) like Kish-Kadar… you can't name your Oc john.
-You can borrow from foreign languages, this can give some nice variety; Ambon sound pretty nice, eh? How about Jasna? Arin? There are endless possibilities.
- You can dig deep into ye old English or even foreign languages to look for something rather than names…. Object? Animal ? or even a trait? This method of naming is quite popular. Take Forn, an oven in Arabic, it can be a lifeless oven in real life but in your fic, it can be a pyromancer with a diseased lust of charring everything/everyone. Readers won't know that (unless after a simple search ). However, that doesn't mean that you apply this rule on every word; readers won't be exactly thrilled to find that their beloved main character is called after a Chinese ding dong.
Heldenmut, my favourite OC, is named after courage in Corinthian? I don't remember.
-You can 'alter' a word as well. Ex: the 'Alonne' knight is derived from the word Alone…by putting a simple N, you can morph this word to some fancy French delicacy …Enchante. You can add/chip away some letter but be careful though, your final product might be not so good like 'Balzac' another OC of mine. To this day, I swear I didn't mean Ball sack.
-Similar to Alteration, you can Scramble a word. Logan can be Ganlo/ Oglan/ Anglo and so on.
-Mix and mash is another way. Logan + Griggs = Grigan/Loggs. You can add/remove a letter or two Navlaan+ Lautrec =Vlanut. You can have some fun here:
Step 1: Nito + Nashandra
Step 2: NitoNashandra
Step 3: N-I-to-Nash-a-ndra
Step 4: ? ? ? ? ?
Step 5: Skeletal profit! = Tondra, the Skelebreed
-Finally, you can go ape shit and type a load of words and then filter:
-Fovuwroun
-Fovrwoun
-Ovoun
Now, here are some rules about Aesthetics and other lingual trivia to consider:
-Make the name attractive, remarkable and catchy.
-Pronounce the actual name! indeed, something like Kijjkqaq might be either unpronounceable or hilarious. A bad thing if you are going for some serious stuff. Comical stories are okay though.
-Sur/nick name, nothing too bland or too OP: Wizla, the woman/ Wizla the all mighty super-duper megawatt newton atomic kicker!
-Mind the length of the name: too short/long is bad for business. They might work though in some circumstances.
\[T]/ Project Dark sun and DSS are coming SOON, brace yourself. Any thoughts about BloodBorne? Sir Paragon is clearly frustrated (As most of us) from being Exclusive to PS4...will the urging need for a proper miyzaki 'fix' overcome you? will you buy a ps4 JUST for BloodBorne? will I stop asking questions?
