A/N: So I'm having a hard time deciding whether I want Jake to relapse or not. Let me know what you guys think!
Jake made Aubree some oatmeal while Mac was deciding what she should start next. The doorbell rang and Jake wiped Aubree's face and hands. He got her out of her high chair and she screamed in excitement.
"Grammy!"
Jake chuckled and followed his daughter to the front door. He opened the door and greeted McKenzie's mom, Missy with a hug.
"Thanks for coming over to help." He told her. "Your daughter is having a fit in the kitchen."
They heard a bowl hit the ground and McKenzie yelled damnit.
"Mommy bad word."
"That's right, honey." Missy said kissing her granddaughter. "Mommy said a bad word and we're going to have a talk with her about that."
Jake closed the door and followed them into the kitchen. McKenzie was mumbling cuss words under her breath as she wiped up the split milk and egg yolks.
"I got it, honey." Jake said coming to the rescue.
"McKenzie, you have to calm down." Her mother told her. "You're going to give yourself a complex."
Her mother took Aubree up to her to decide what she would wear later in the day. Jake cleaned up the mess and wrapped his arms around her.
"You know I could take you right here and now, right?" He mumbled kissing her neck.
"As much as I would really enjoy that..." McKenzie replied closing her eyes. "I don't think my mom would appreciate it."
She untangled his arms from around her and went back to the task at hand.
"I hate Thanksgiving." Jake half joked.
McKenzie giggled.
"So, who is all showing up today?" Missy asked coming back into the kitchen.
"Well you and Jim of course." She told her mom. "Matt, Chel, Josh, his girlfriend, Anabelle, Mary, dad, and Judith."
"I love how we can all have a family dinner together." Her mom said with a smile. "Judith seems like a nice woman for your father."
Missy and Judith had met a few times when Missy would either pick or drop off Aubree with Mark.
"Yeah." Jake spoke up. "That sure didn't happen with my mom and pop's ex-wife. They hated each other. "
Everyone knew no one got along with Jake's ex-stepmother.
"I've wanted to catch up with Mary since I've been back."
"Yeah, you two used to be best friends." I told her. "The same with Amber's mom."
"Yeah, after my divorce from Mark, I moved it was hard to keep up with all my friends here."
A few hours later,
After much stress, everything was done thanks to the help of Jake and Missy. They would help with the meals and with Aubree. Everyone showed up at around 11 and the guys watched football as the last minute meals were in the oven. The women were in the kitchen sipping on some wine. Duke was outside in the backyard and Aubree was taking a nap.
Mary and Missy were telling Judith old stories of Jake while Mac and Chelsea was getting to know Josh's girlfriend, Anabelle some more. She had only briefly met her briefly right before the guys went to Dutch.
"No!" They heard the guys yelling from in the living room.
"Shh!" McKenzie told them. "You're gonna wake up Aubree."
"Sorry!" They yelled back.
Mac shook her head and the other women laughed. An hour later, everyone was seated at the two tables they had put together and Aubree was in her high chair beside McKenzie. Her dad and step dad was both at the end of the table. They said a prayer and all went around the table saying what they were thankful for.
"Mark, you wanna carve up that turkey?" Jake asked Mac's father.
"Gladly." The older man said with a huge smile.
Everyone passed around plates put food on them.
"Momma, me want tatoes."
"I'll get you some potatoes." Mac told her daughter.
"So, when are we going to have more beautiful grand babies?" Mark asked.
"Working on it, sir."
Mary choked on her wine and everyone chuckled.
"Jacob Charles Harris." She scolded him.
"What?" He asked innocently like he hadn't done anything wrong.
"What about you?" Missy asked her son. "When are you and Chelsea going to give me some grandbabies?"
"Not anytime soon, mom." Matthew told her.
McKenzie looked across the table and seen a flash of a hurt expression on her friend's face and gave her a small smile.
"Kids are great, bro." Jake told his friend.
Just then Aubree slung some of her potatoes.
"That is a no-no Aubree." McKenzie told the toddler.
Everyone laughed.
"Yeah, Jake…we can see that." Josh joked.
After the meal and the family taking home leftovers, McKenzie put all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and sighed. She was thankful that her mom took Aubree home with her and Jim because Jake and Mac were going to do some early morning Christmas shopping since it was Black Friday.
Jake came up behind Mac and picked her up.
"Jake, what the…."
She couldn't finish her sentence because Jake's lips were on hers.
"I'm finishing what I started earlier." He told her before kissing her again.
