Chapter XXV
Naruto immediately dissapeared in the Transparency Technique grabbing his katana, following Yugao and Gekko silently and swiftly without much worry of him being disturbed. One of the things he had learnt was a masking tag which coupled with certain jutsu made them the 'ultimate' techniques for certain skill sets and the Toton Technique or 'Transparent Escape' Jutsu was one of the best infiltration techniques in Konoha. Combined with the Masking Tag to prevent ripples it was perfect infiltraitor combo.
"You weren't seen?" A rasping voice called.
"No but we had best conclude our buisness quickly. Small set backs on Oto's side but..."
"That is normal. Rare for a good plan to go perfectly and even rarer for all of the objectives to appear in a line...What hasn't happened?"
"Orochimaru-Sama failed to infect Sasuke-kun with his mark."
Above Hayate, Naruto crouched also blended in and his eyes narrowed as he saw Kabuto. He hadn't overheard much but someone else must have done when suddenly Hayate broke cover.
The sickly jonin took to the rooftops with what appeared to be a Suna Jonin in hot persuit. Hayate grabbed Kubikiribocho by the handle and flared his chakra preparing to use his signiture technique.
He dived down a back alley rooftop and looped around effectively losing his persuer. Baki snarled, he had lost the damn spy if the spy reported to the Hokage the invasion would be under ANBU guards and being asked questions by the Yamanaka clan.
Hayate grinned as he unsheathed Kubikiribocho as Naruto descended on the jonin "Konohagakure no Sato Kenjutsu: Crescent Moon Falling Beheading."
Fact 1; The technique Naruto used would have split anyone of his genin opponents in half. Fact 2; Chunin and Jonin vests are tougher than they look and Konoha's vests are tougher still. Fact 3; It was only Baki's years as a jonin that kept him alive from the attack.
"Impressive for a genin to know such a technique."
Naruto smirked "I reversed it...After learning my sensei's technique."
Baki's eyes widened "Even more impressive...If you survive this maybe you'll be able to use this jutsu 'Dragon-Rat-Bird-Dragon-Rabbit' Wind Style: Wind Blade!"
"Konoha's Sword Art: Crsecent Moon Decapitation!" Hayate roared spawning two shadow clones and swung the colossal killing blade.
Baki's eyes widened, jerked his finger and a stronger and longer flick. Extending the nigh on invisible killing blade but slimmed down its considerable cutting power. But it was enough to cut the immense carving knife but the blade managed to strike home and connect solidly with Baki's shoulder.
The wind blade missed Hayate and slammed into Naruto sending up an agonising scream and blood spurted everywhere. Hayate was distracted and Baki vanished in a plume of smoke.
Hayate stared as his student collapsed, his eyes widened as Naruto winked and the blonde stepped out of the shadows "That was close...Fuuinbunshin success."
Hayate could only stare "You...You're alive!"
Naruto nodded "Yup for a few more minutes. As nee-chan and some ANBU are arriving."
As he spoke the ANBU descended. The destruction of the Fuuinjutsu Bunshin allowed him the same properties of the Kage Bunshin but also served as a very neat diversion "Naruto-kun! What happened? Why are you out so late?" Called Gemma as she landed heavily on the roof top with Shisui materialising moments later.
Naruto groaned "Went out for Ramen...Saw a few Suna-nin out after dark. Thought they knew the laws of hospitality. I found myself eavesdropping on a conversation between the Sand Jonin myself and Sensei fought along with Kabuto."
"KABUTO! As in the Medical-nin heads son?"
Naruto nodded and along with Hayate explained everything that they overheard. Thankfully it was ANBU squad Alpha or the 'Hokage Guard' squad that had reinforced them. The masks they had a unique seal inscribed on them relaying everything to the Kage directly.
"ANBU stage the deaths. Uzumaki Naruto go underground until the Chunin Exams start in four days."
Naruto felt a hand on the back of his neck, disorientation and found himself back home. "You absolute moron..." Naruto nodded and kept on nodding as Gemma's tirade washed over him.
Naruto finally began to realise just how good it was to have a family or group of people that were family like to him. The next few days passed extraordinarily quickly for the blonde as he mentally prepared himself for his trials at the chunin exams.
Naruto was against Neji, He needed to stomp a hole in the kid. Then it didn't matter who else as the Sandaime predicted that the event would be halted at Gaara vs Sasuke. All Naruto was worried about was demonstrating enough skill to become a Chunin.
He pulled on a heavy reinforced hoody equipped with a Kakashi-esque mask and headed out with his swords in seals, extra kunai and other provisions. You were meant to prepare on your own but everyone knew that clan and family shinobi all slipped extra things into the kits.
Naruto entered the arena, he was amongst the first to arrive with the first being the sand siblings. Naruto was calm in the knowlege that several jonin were observing the arena with their eyes and ears or in the case of Jonin Inuzuka Sakumo his wolfish senses and his massive canine partner Shadow.
Shadow easily dwarfed Kuromaru twice over who was the partner of the Head of the Clan, Inuzuka Tsume. Kuromaru was larger than most of the ninken making him unusual but for someone to be larger was almost unheard of.
Naruto made no nods or inclinations to gain the attention of his opponents as the other contestants slowly filed in with the exception of Uchiha Sasuke. Naruto snorted it was always typical of the Uchiha to arrive late almost as if the world revolved around him.
However since Shisui had been hanging around his sister a lot lately he had quickly changed his opinion on the Clan as a whole. Now it was SOME Uchiha who believed the world revolved around them and he was on a team with one of them.
Genma materialised in front of them as the stadium slowly filled up with civilians, visitors and shinobi both on and off duty. To everyone on duty it was the easiest shift and it mainly involved separating drunken civilians and sore losers from one another. The only reason jonin and chunin did the job was because of the sheer numbers of incidents otherwise genin could have done it.
"Well done all of you for reaching stage three of the Chunin exams. For now just bask in the applause of everyone here." Announced Genma.
High above them the Kazekage and Hokage observed the contestants with various degrees of interest/caution. "I heard that one of your genin supposedly died Hokage-dono..."
The Sandaime grinned at the Kazekage "Unfortunately for the killer they either botched the job or couldn't tell a real from a bunshin...Anyways it appears the first match is about to begin."
Naruto stared down Neji and slid into a modified taijutsu composed of the Toad and Storm style "It is your fate to lose just accept it. You can't beat me..." Neji announced calmly.
"...My time is now." Called Naruto as Genma allowed the match to start. Naruto immediately jumped and backflipped away to gain some distance as Neji rocketed forwards with speed that only a year under Maight Gai could generate.
"I seriously miscalculated his speed Kunai Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!" Naruto called flinging ten kunai which rapidly multiplied into a thousand.
The Kazekage nodded "That is a remarkable skill the Kunai Kage Bunshin no?"
The Hokage nodded "It seems so. The boy the last time I checked had a B and A-rank jutsu under his belt the Kage Bunshin and Taijuu Kage Bunshin. It doesn't surprise me that he's learnt this."
Neji's eyes widened as he managed to evade the incoming storm of projectiles. Naruto smirked and launched himself forwards "Gentle Fist Style: 32 Palms!"
The first two blows connected with Naruto only for the blonde to dissapear in a puff of smoke revealing a punctured log. Naruto reappeared behind Neji and lashed out with a roundhouse kick catching the boy squarely in the temple.
Neji snarled in fury that the 'Dobe' of the class below had managed to even harm him "KAITEN!" A massive blue dome erupted around the Hyuga which latched onto Naruto before throwing him painfully into the wall only for him to distentigrate into smoke.
Neji's eyes widened he had heard that a genin could use solid clones he didn't believe or more like couldn't believe that is was the dead last in front of him. Naruto smirked and he began weaving hand seals "Futon: Teppodama! Katon: Gokkayo no Jutsu!" He called out mentally as he exhaled two condensed orbs. Both of which connected exploding out violently covering the arena with red hot fire.
Shisui who was observing with Gemma and Hana smirked "It seems your brother has an instinctive grasp on fire and wind collaberation jutsu."
Gemma snickered "More like he got lucky exceptionally lucky Shisui-kun."
Neji inhaled deep breaths of oxygen as he tried to locate his oponent suddenly the ground around him detonated as explosion tags that Naruto had made before hand, passed to a clone which had entered underneath the arnea floor and set them up in accordance to his creators chakra pulses.
It was a cunning plan after all. Neji jumped up but Naruto vanished substituting with a log "Kenjutsu: Painful Headache!" Neji looked up to see Naruto blanketing the decapitating carving knife flat side of the blade with chakra which connected with a sickening thud. Genma hastily called the match in Naruto's favour.
Kankuro quickly forfeited his match not wanting to demonstrate his dual puppetteering skills causing a frantic uproar with the crowd. "Next match Gaara vs Uchiha Sasuke."
The crowd broke out into ferverant whispering wondering how the prodigy Uchiha would trounce the 'Strongest Genin' of the Sand village. The visitors smirked they knew what Gaara was and what he could and would do they were certain one hundred ten percent that Gaara was going to win and Suna would reveal why they were one of the big five.
"Where is Uchiha Sasuke Hokage-dono?" Asked the Kazekage curiously.
The Hokage shrugged "Since he is not here at the moment I can only suggest he and Gaara have an exhibition match but no promotion."
The Kazekage nodded and called for the next match to begin. Naruto watched with disenterest already knowing who was about to win the next match out of Temari and Shikamaru.
Naruto smirked as Shikamaru quickly withdrew from the competition under the pretense of 'Not enough chakra'. Naruto knew better his mother and sensei's had taught him to sense chakra and Shikamaru was more than three quarter full.
"Will Sabaku no Gaara and Uchiha Sasuke please make their way into the arena."
