Chapter 25: Blessing

Ed and Lorraine left after a few hours with plans to come back the next night so they could get their stuff and get set up. For now Randal and his messed up family decided to all sleep in the master bedroom. Randall protectively held his little David as Sully made their dinner and such in the near by kitchen. Mike was reading some books on demons and the like- trying to see what could be done to protect them and such in the mean time.

"We could sprinkle the house with sage." Mike thoughtfully suggested.

"Thanks for thinking Mike, but this is a demon summoned by witches that we're dealing with." Randall explained. "Witches usually already have sage with all their herbs."

"Yeah, I guess you have a point there." Mike sighed.

"Hey, how about holy oil?" Fungus suggested. "It's much stronger than holy water."

"I guess we could try that." Randall thought.

"All's we really need to do is go to every opening of the house and trace a cross over it with the oil." Fungus smiled.

"I don't know, it might not work." Randall shrugged.

"Please Randall, can we at least try?" Dave begged.

Randall looked down at the human, locking with those pleading eyes. Those damn eyes.

"Oh, well, alright. I guess we can try." Randall agreed.

"It can't hurt, can it?" Sully added as he came into the room. "Edward and Lorraine are coming back tomorrow anyway."

"Yeah, I guess you're right." Randall sighed. "Alright, let's do it."

The family went around the house, carrying a bottle filled with springwater and cooking oil. While Mike read from a bible, the rest occupied themselves by making small crosses on the doors and windows with the oil.

Sparky was still tied up to a tree, but he growled with unhappiness.

"Sparky seems very tense." Dave gulped.

"Maybe we're starting to draw the demon out and he can see it." Fungus shrugged.

"Hopefully." Sully agreed.

"Less talking, more crucifying." Randall demanded.

The others quickly shut their mouths as they continued blessing their home.

The more they blessed the house, the more heavy the air around them felt.

"Randall, I'm starting to get really freaked out." Dave whimpered, unable to stop shaking.

Randall looked at the child with sympathy, and sighed.

"Well, there's only one more opening that needs to be blessed and that's the chimney." He explained. "I'll take care of that."

"Are you sure?" Mike asked. "It could be dangerous."

"Don't worry Mike, I'll be fine." Randall assured, secretly blushing a little at Mike's concern. "Hand me the holy oil."

So, Dave gave his monster friend the oil, and the monster himself climbed up onto the roof, slowly making his way to the chimney.

"Alright Mike, start reading!" Randall commanded.

Mike nodded and started reading from the bible again. Randall approached the chimney and began tracing the cross on every side of the chimney. It seemed that everything was gonna go by completely smoothly, until…

"What's that sound?" Randall frowned.

"What sound?" Mike asked, stopping the ritual.

"I'm hearing… like a faint whispering." Randall answered.

The others below looked at each other in confusion. They couldn't hear anything.

"Sir, I think it's best if you get down from there." Fungus suggested. "Like, now!"

"Hold up. It sounds like it's coming from the chimney." Randall explained.

Curious, Randall ignored the protest of hi friends below and cautiously looked down into the chimney.

Suddenly, a big gust of wind, followed by a female scream, blew out of the chimney and pushed the monster back.

"Whoa!" He cried as he started losing his balance.

"Randall!" Dave cried as he watched his savior.

"Whoa! Whoa!" Randall shouted, trying to regain his balance.

The others below gasped as they watched in horror, as Randall suddenly fell backwards off the roof, falling to the hard ground below.
