The time Steve and Natasha confronted each other about their feelings for each other (AOU version!) Prompt credit goes to Sportsfan64. I was listening to the new Adele album while writing this and it fits pretty well! So if you want a song to listen to while reading this I suggest A million years ago for Steve's view and Love in the Dark for Natasha and together All I Ask.

Steve hated watching this. It created a sickening feeling in his gut, watching her cry over him. He hated when she was talking about how a guy had done her wrong and all that nonsense before Ultron had come along. No one had but her wrong in a while. The last person who done her wrong was her ex back in Russia and the Red Room. And he knew because… well… he tried to protect her from things like that.

Before SHIELD's falling he didn't really trust the assassin but after being partnered up with her he couldn't stand the thought of working with anyone else after that incident. She became his one and only partner and she somehow managed to fill the hole in his heart left by Peggy and Bucky.

He hated Banner for doing this to her. For breaking the one person he thought couldn't be broken, but then again, he knew anyone could be broken. He had watched it happen before to his fellow soldiers back in the war. One day they would be fine, the next they would brake down crying like babies.

So when he heard the sound of crying coming from her door he nearly broke down himself. It had been a little less then a month since Banner had abandoned the team and gone off. And since then Steve was forced to watch his best friend try to act fine, to try and pretend everything was ok in front of the new avengers, only to brake down in her room after dinner.

He wanted so badly to punch Banner, to teach him a lesson or two. Natasha never deserved this; she had gone through too much in her life to take a broken heart also. Steve wanted nothing more then to comfort her and help her through this pain, but he couldn't. He knew if he did then his feeling for the spy would only grow, and another lover followed by heartbreak wasn't something he could deal with.

He cursed god for putting him in this position, for making him choose. So as he stood outside Natasha's door all he could do was listen to her cry over Banner, and he wish that he didn't have feelings for her.

The next morning Steve skipped breakfast, something that he had never done before until a few days ago. He chose to extend his morning run from the 20 miles in 2 hours to a 4-hour one. He couldn't go back to the avenger's facility and just pretend like he hadn't noticed Natasha's broken heart, or act like everything between the two was ok, because it wasn't. So the soldier ran till he reached the closest town, which was 35 miles away from the facility and when he got there he made his way to the local café. He had done this for 4 days in a row.

He took a seat at a booth and looked out of the café window into the town. It was a medium sized town but, it was nothing like New York City or anywhere else he had been. It felt like home, a place that had never really existed for him since becoming Captain America.

"Hi sir… What can I get you?" the waitress asked as she pulled a notebook out of her pocket to write down his order.

Steve looked up at the brown haired women with hazel eyes. Her hair was put up in a messily done bun that was starting to come lose and a pair of rectangular eyeglasses sat on her nose.

Steve clear his throat and looked back to the menu in front of him, "Umm… Can I have your hash browns along with a ham and cheese omelet?" he asked after scanning the menu.

"Of course. Anything to drink?" she questioned as she wrote the order down on her notebook.

"A cup of coffee is all," he answered as he smiled at her and handed the menu back to her.

She nodded before walking off; leaving Steve to ponder his thoughts and the feelings he had for Natasha.

Once again he was stuck in the same place. If he told her and she didn't feel the same about him then their friendship would be ruined, but if she did then… well… he didn't know what would happen. Or maybe she had feelings for him but couldn't handle it right now. Especially with what had just happened with Bruce.

Steve ran a hand through his messy blond hair in frustration before leaning on it and looking out the window. He watched the cars roll by on their way to work, the black and grey rims spinning in time with the tires.

He continued to look out the window till the waitress brought his food to the table 10 minutes later. He thanked her before he started eating.

He ate the omelet first, taking his time, he had nowhere to be and he was in no rush to get back to the facility. They didn't have training today so he was going to try and enjoy this day, though that wasn't likely. His one-day off had already turned into one of thinking about Natasha.

She engrossed not only his thoughts but also his drawings in his sketchbook. Her firey red hair, her green eyes, which he could never get the coloring of right. The way she walked and the way she fought. He loved everything about her. How she had experienced pain and knew how to push through it. How she had become good. How she had become a cat person after adopting that demon cat Lilo that only liked her. He loved everything about her.

He loved the way she talked. The way she embraced new challenges. Her sass. She was perfect to him, he would never change anything about her.

After he finished his food he paid for it before leaving the café. He had a long way back to the facility. He left the café walking out into the now warm morning air that had originally been crisp when he had last felt it.

He was glad the air wasn't as cold now. He hated the cold, reminded him of the ice all too much. The ice still haunted him, and he knew it always would.

As he walked down the street he tried not to make any eye contact with any of the people who walked past him. He didn't want any of them to recognize him. He didn't want to be fangirled over today. He never wanted to be fangirled over.

He had expected to run back to the facility. Well that was his original plan until a black 2014 Chevrolet Corvette pulled up next to him.

"Need a ride fossil?" a voice asked as the window closest to him rolled down.

He looked at the red head that was droving the car and softly smiled, "You still calling me that?"

"Never stopped old man," she responded a smirk crawling its way onto her face.

Steve just rolled his eyes before he opened the car door and climbed in.

"How'd you know where to find me Romanoff?" he asked after buckling his seatbelt.

"Really Steve? Romanoff?" she asked raising an eyebrow and casting a glance at him when she could.

Steve didn't respond. He didn't know how too. He couldn't call her Nat… not if he wanted to spare himself a broken heart.

"Steve?" she asked actually turning her head to look at him when they had come to a stoplight.

He didn't speck.

Nat sighed and continued to drive. She had noticed that the Captain had started to avoid her. He never made eye contact with her now. He never laughed at her jokes or scolded her for the inappropriate ones. Finally she snapped. She pulled the car to the side of the road and parked the car in anger before looking at him.

"Alright Rogers! What the hell is going on! First you skip breakfast, which you never do, then you call me Romanoff instead of Nat or Natasha and finally you don't speak to me at all! What the hell is happening here!" she demanded to know.

Steve once again didn't respond.

"Alright…. If that's the way you want to play it then this car ain't moving till you tell me what's happening!" she dictated.

"I heard you last night," Steve mumbled so low that she couldn't hear it.

"What?"

"I heard you crying last night," he repeated louder this time.

Natasha's eyes widened as those words set in. He had heard her crying over Bruce. She tried not to let it knock her confidence down a peg or two but to be honest it did.

Steve tried not to make eye contact with the Russian spy as he looked at her. She stared at the ground letting the news set in. Finally she broke out of the trance she was in.

"So…" she suddenly snapped, "What does it matter?"

Steve looked at her in regret. Regret that he hadn't told her about his feelings before Banner came along.

"Spit it out Rogers!"

Steve took in a deep breath before rapidly spitting out, "I'minlovewithyouandIcan'twatchyoucryoverthatbastard."

He spoke so fast it took Natasha a minute to decode what he had said and once she did she was shocked.

"What?"

"I said I'm in love with you and I can't stand watching you cry over Banner!" Steve fumed.

"No I heard you… but you're in love with me?" she asked trying not to let her walls fall down.

Steve looked at her before sighing in frustration and climbing out of the car.

"I'm just going to walk the rest of the way home alright?" he sighed before closing the passenger door.

Natasha's shocked face quickly turned into one of anger. She unbuckled her seatbelt and climbed out of the car slamming the door behind her and marched her way over to Steve who stared at her in shock.

"You're an Ass Rogers!" she hissed angrily at him.

"What?" he stammered in shock.

"I said.." she stated putting her index finger on his chest, "you're," one jab with the finger, "an," another jab, "ASS!" her finger pushing hard onto his chest.

"And what makes me such an Ass?" he asked not daring to move away her index finger in fear of losing in hand.

"The fact that you hid this from me!" she barked, rage gleaming in her eyes, "You're the one who caused all this pain!"

"What?" Steve stated in shock.

"You heard me! You're the one who caused my pain! You made me believe that you didn't care for me! If you did then I wouldn't have gotten my heart broken twice in a row! First by you then by Banner!" she ranted.

Steve was wounded by her words and was silent.

"You really think I didn't have feelings for you Rogers? Are you that big of an idiot?" she sighed, the fury and anger slowly leaving her voice as she continued, "I… I actually for once thought that love wasn't for children when we were partners…"

Steve said nothing and let her continue.

"But I knew that we couldn't be together so I tried to set you up on dates thinking that if I saw you with someone else then I would lose my feelings for you but of course you're to damn stubborn to let it happen!" she continued

"The only reason I was to damn stubborn was because I had my eyes already set on a girl," Steve interrupted looking into her eyes, "You…"

It was Natasha's turn to be shocked. She looked at the Captian not believing the words she had just hear leave his mouth.

"Nat… I've had feelings for you for a while… but, well… I didn't know how to tell you. You always said love is for children… so how could I fall in love with you if you didn't want to be loved?" he asked.

Natasha let his words sink in. He liked her… and it wasn't just a little feeling, it was true and real.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier… I just… didn't want to lose you," he explained.

Before he could even continue he was cut off. Not by Natasha's word or even her punches, but by her lips, they were on his.

It took about 10 seconds after they had first started kissing before Natasha pulled away.

"You're an idiot Rogers," Natasha muttered as she looked up at the super solider their eyes locking.

He opened his mouth to respond just to be cut off once more by the spy.

"Rogers, don't even try to say I love you," she ordered before continuing, "I already know," she responded before kissing him again.

There it is! Hope you guys enjoyed it! Also, keep the prompts coming!
