Recognition for this prompt goes to Guest: "Thank you so much for writing these stories! I love them all, but one of my favorites is the one where Erin gets jealous when questioning the girl. Maybe you could write one where Jay gets jealous? It's probably a very basic prompt, but you are an awesome writer and I'm positive you'll make a great story. Thanks again & I can't wait to read more from you :)"
**You Belong With Me**
Halstead dragged his feet into the locker room, drowsy from his night out the day before. He wasn't up for working today, but crime doesn't take breaks just because detectives have massive hangovers. He pulled his locker open, closed his eyes and leaned forward. Since when did locker rooms have windows? Maybe they were always there, he's just never noticed. Hangovers put every sense on high alert. His eyes were extremely sensitive to the sunlight. At least the locker room was quiet…
"Seriously dude,"
Jay thought too soon as a few rookies bombarded into the once quiet area. He didn't pull his head out of his locker for fear the sun would team up with the noise and make him suffer. Halstead had to choose one or the other…and he would choose the loud ruckus any day over the bright sunlight.
"Dude, these female officers here are hot!"
Halstead heard the laughter that followed one of the officer's admittance. He peeked through the slits on the locker and noticed Henry, Jack, Paul and Oliver. Jack seemed to be the leader and initiator of the conversation. His muscular appearance made the other three officers seem meek in comparison. Jack pulled his uniform shirt out of his locker, "The only officer that has caught my attention is Erin. Now she's hot."
If the subject of conversation didn't already pull in Jay's attention, the mention of his partner did. The four rookies may have been new to the precinct, but they're not oblivious new. Everyone knew, including Halstead himself that Erin Lindsey was off limits for every officer and criminal. She was Voight's daughter. You had to have confidence and guts to even try to whip up something with her.
Henry nodded his head in backup, "Jack, you're right about that." The two men high-fived, as Oliver blushed at the thought, "I can't even hold a conversation with her."
"She's got you all flustered Oliver," Paul laughed, patting his friend's back.
"No one has been able to approach her, talk to her, or ask her out." Oliver reminded, shrugging his shoulders, "especially with daddy lurking around at every corner."
That caused for Jack to roll his eyes, "He isn't even her real father. We don't need his approval, and neither does she."
"Are you seriously going to go for it?" Henry stepped back in disbelief.
Jay hated ease-dropping, but he was curious as to how this conversation will play out. Jack honestly thought he had a chance with Lindsey. Halstead knew the person with the highest chance of asking her out, was he himself.
"I'm planning to."
"Why her though?" Oliver spoke up, asking the question Jay's been wondering, "She's not the only hot officer who works here. You got Kim, Elaine, Valerie…and not to mention Shannon…and those are only a few I've named. Why do you want Erin?"
Jack winked at his friend, before providing him with an overgrown and cocky smile, "She's a challenge," he shrugged his shoulders in casualness, "Imagine dating the head of Intelligence's daughter…foster daughter, whatever the hell she is to him. I would be the big man in this bitch," Jack clapped in delight at the thought, "And she isn't hard on the eyes either. Have you seen the rack she's carrying around? When I get a piece of-"
"Alright that's enough," Halstead interrupted, stepping from behind his opened locker, "Dudes, seriously I don't feel like arguing. So, just please shut up."
"What's it to you? Why do you care?"
Jay glared at the unsuspecting Jack, "That's my partner you're talking about. And you're disrespecting her. I don't appreciate that." Jack slammed his locker shut.
"She's not your girl. She's not your sister. She's not anything to you. Just fall back, and we'll pretend like this conversation never even happened."
The frustration from his hangover and the anger bubbling inside of him weren't a good mix. It took every fiber of his being to not ball his fist together and strike Jack. He hated guys like him, all smug and cocky. It infuriated him.
"I find it funny how stupid you are." Jay provided a hearty laugh to back up his statement.
"And why am I stupid?"
"Because despite what you think," Halstead clenched his fists, "she is my girl." He reeled his fist back and struck Jack in the jaw.
In response, Jack reached forward and gripped the collar of Jay's shirt. He was a large fellow and he towered over Halstead. Jack lifted the detective, but Jay refused to back down. He shoved a hearty punch into his opponent's stomach, "You also want to know what I find funny?" Jay ducked Jack's swing of the fist.
"What?"
"The fact that you're not even worried about Voight." Jay shoved Jack into the locker, "You have to be some type of idiot to think Voight will not be a threat to you," Halstead provided one last punch, before he felt arms pull him back.
"Fall back Halstead!" He heard her voice, which immediately calmed him down.
Jack quickly got himself together and gave Erin a polite smile. Henry, Paul and Oliver followed Jack's lead. Jay inhaled a deep breath, "What are you doing in here?"
"Oliver came and got me." Erin answered, crossing her arms, "Guys, give us a second."
Paul pointed towards his locker, "We were trying to-"
"I just need a few minutes."
Jack nodded and waved for his friends to follow him, "The lady has spoken."
Lindsey sighed to herself once the officers left the locker room. She took a seat on the bench, and looked up at him, "What was all of that about?"
"They were talking about you." He sat down next to her.
"Why?"
"You know locker room talk. I usually don't mind it, but I don't want it to be about you."
Erin smiled, and reached out for his hand, "You got jealous with whatever Jack was saying."
"He's an idiot."
"I'm not going to argue with you on that one," She shrugged, "I've dealt with Jack before, and I'll most likely deal with him again."
"You shouldn't have to."
He lifted her hand and pressed a kiss down onto it, "I don't like it when guys look at you the way he does. He wanted to ask you out. You belong with me, not him. I don't like it when they talk about you like you're a temperature or a piece of meat."
"It's a part of life," she sighed.
"It shouldn't have to be."
Erin stood up, and pulled Jay up with her. She wrapped her arms around him, and rested her forehead against his chest, "I really appreciate you defending my honor, but it's not necessary. I can take care of myself."
"I don't doubt that," he mentioned, resting his chin against the top of her head, "It just feels good to do it for you. You know?"
Lindsey couldn't deny it. Jealous and protective Halstead is very attractive…and if he wanted to defend her honor, why should she stop him?
A raspy voice clears its throat, causing the two to pull apart from one another. Erin brushes a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she makes eye contact with Voight. His arms are resting inside of his bullet proof vest, "What are you doing in here Lindsey?"
"I'm just checking on my partner."
"Well, suit up," He nods for her to leave the locker room, "You too Halstead."
Jay headed back towards his locker, "Yes sir."
Voight took a quiet stance in the locker room before sitting down. He made sure Lindsey was gone, before deciding to speak back up.
"She's tough and can take care of herself," he started, avoiding eye contact with the younger detective, "but I find it comforting to know that besides me and Justin, she has you looking out for her too."
Jay closed his locker in disbelief, "You heard all of that?"
"I did," he nodded, "Just make sure that those feelings came from protection, not jealousy. I would hate to see you go." Hank pat the detective on his back, "See you upstairs in five."
