Chapter XXV - can't let you do that

Falco drove his car to the streets of downtown Coneria. Till he stopped at Gewehr street, in front of the entrance of a building.

Before he went out of the car, he used his phone to tell Hyacinth to arrive in Coneria if anything has happened to him. But he had no time to watch him reply.

Walking up there, he told the analyzer to scan for the room which the killer is living in.

"3rd floor, flat B." Said the analyzer.

Falco then went up, locating himself to the flat he should be in. Arriving, he was astonished that the door did not lock.

"Better be careful. The killer's expecting me."

Falco did not open the door, but instead placed the analyzer on the floor, commanding it to scan the area inside the flat for anything suspicious.

Surprisingly, the analyzer did not scan anything out.

Falco then took out his pistol, and, still, alerted, opened the door carefully.

Inside was nothing but a common living room, and a couple of doors which lead to different rooms. The room is mostly yellowish in color. But somehow Falco smelled a bit of strange gas. Something he felt wrong since he never smelt any like that in the Chemistry lessons on Earth.

But he did not mind much, and began scavenging the rooms.

He first got a glance on the kitchen. He opened the fridge, then the dishwasher. He thought, there will never be evidence, and he was right.

The second is the table which has a typewriter, a fountain pen, and an ink bottle scattered, with a chair of a position of a person just left from it.

The table also has a small book, and inside wrote the person whom he killed, when and where.

"Why didn't he burn this piece of evidence?" Thought Falco.

The book was then scanned, and it showed the names of those who was written and quickly showed the profile of the people.

"The person who lives here is the killer. I have analyzed that the victims of the case and this book's names are the same. Even the place where the CPD found the bodies."

"So this guy is the killer. You wanna kill Krystal? Let's see who found each other first!" Thought Falco, ferociously.

He then turned around but saw a plasma combustor.

His instincts told him: "He burned every last evidence in this case!"

But the thing is that, he still did not know what he had burned. And who he is.

He then saw a couple of rooms. And he went in.

Going to the bathroom, he smelled something quite familiar.

"Is it..."

Falco had smelled his old lover. But he cannot know if it is her. But he lastly knew that he was only mistaken for there is the same type of perfume she places in the washroom of her house.

"Someone must have known that I will come here. Why everything's set up?!" But he didn't know that she has only worked with him as a victim and a partner.

Not wanting to be hooked up to his old memories, he instantly went out.

After going out, he went into one of the rooms. Just at the opposite of the washroom.

"Cabinets!" Falco thought. "They must have stored information!"

And he was right. Opening the top cabinet, a picture was found.

"Argh, so it's Wolf, eh? Back in the old days..."

He saw that it was Wolf who was in the picture. When he was ascended to the position of a police lieutenant, he was demanded to take a picture.

"Hmm, then where is his former police uniform?"

The analyzer then beeped.

"I found what you wanted inside the wardrobe of this house."

Falco then walked to the wardrobe to the left of him, opening it, and saw a police uniform, the one which is the same with Pigma's."

"So, you are a cop, so that everyone will listen to you and go. After that, you stunned them, and put them inside the storm drains. What a plan! Professor Faraday!" Said Falco.

"I do not know why would a person who discovered electrolysis is relevant to the killer." Said the analyzer, all of a sudden.

"It's called sarcasm." Said Falco. "You will never know how it's done like I do."

As he walked in circles, deep in thought.

"Where did the killer plant those roses, and did all the communication?...Will there be some sort of door, or...picture? Hiding everything?"

He walked to the living room, and saw that there was a big picture of the StarWolf team. Including Leon, who called him annoying.

This made him displeased a little. But he knew that there must be something inside.

Taking off the big canvas, he saw that the wall has a narrow, clean line, Falco saw a small button just beside the line. Pressing it, the wall which was divided by half opened, which it lead to a small room.

Walking into it, he took a quick glance, and it is not a coincidence.

Wolf is the killer.

There are roses planted inside the room, and the analyzer finished analyzing and found out that the flower powder exactly has the same structure with the ones found at the first crime scene.

Looking left, he saw a computer. But it was locked.

He told the analyzer to hack it whilst he tried to find more evidence.

The last ones are found on the floor.

The gloves that were on the floor is the same with those of the hooded figure. Falco thought so.

When he put the gloves on the analyzer, he found the answer. Wolf O'Donnell is exactly the killer, and he used the name of Jennifer Morrigan to fake his identity in order to create a barrier in terms of it.

The computer screen then turned. The analyze finished hacking in.

There was an address right on the computer screen, it said: "Route 70, number 11, Coneria."

"Analyzer, give me the street view of this location."

As the analyzer showed up a hologram of what it looks like on the ground.

"A warehouse!" Said Falco. "There she is! I gotta go out and tell Fox about it..."

When he ran out of the small room, there stood Wolf, with a Conerian-made, Army type Jupiter 46C Combat shotgun pointing right at Falco's chest.

"Can't let you do that! Mr. Lombardi!"

"Wolf, it's over. All things Fox has done has already proven he loved Krystal very much. End this now!" He said. Bravely.

Then, Wolf waited a while, dropped his gun. And turned back.

When Falco was skeptical and was moving slowly, Wolf turned back to him and electrocuted him with his stun gun.

Falco has fainted right away.

When he woke up again, he found that the place is on fire. Smoke emitted from the curtains and fire was also on the ground, and what's worse, is that there was a propane tank ready to explode. The strange smell was actually propane gas when he first went in.

Falco tried to breathe not so much, as he went to the exit.

The door was locked outside, and when Falco used his pistol to shoot the door knob, it broke but the door was not forced open.

Just then Falco saw that there was a window, and he could jump to the nearest window in order to get to safety.

But Falco went off-guard when he was walking to the window beside the kitchen.

"Shoot! My shoes are on fire!"

He then stomped down on the ground, trying to get rid of it.

"I'm glad this pair of shoes can resist fire. But better if fire-proof." He thought when he finished getting rid of it.

Thinking that, he already walked to the window.

"It's too far."

Outside the window is a street, with a couple of curious pedestrians looking what is going on. At the right it is the window for the rear staircase, but it's too far away to jump there. It was rainy and windy. The last tempest of the season,

"The fridge! Yes! It can help me block the explosion! I ought to go to the kitchen!"

He then proceeded to the kitchen, after bumping a few doors that are not going to the kitchen, where he frantically opened the fridge door and threw everything inside away.

"Hope it will not explode so fast." He thought. As he went inside and closed the fridge door.

About ten seconds later, an explosion went out of the building, and a fridge is seen flying and slammed on the street.

The fridge then was opened, and out came Falco, his blue feathers being a little painted black by the smoke.

"That's a small fridge. For a 6 foot tall person." Thought Falco, as he went out.

He then went to his car, but noticed that it was destroyed and on fire. The tires ran flat, the doors are destroyed, all for the same reason: the fuel tank has exploded.

"What now?" He thought.

His phone rang out of his expectations. As he took a look.

"Look behind you." The message said.

Falco looked behind, then he saw Hyacinth's car.

Inside there is no note. But his phone beeped and there is another message. It said:

"Falco, this is bad. Pigma has ordered an army to surround the warehouse. You will have to get there before they do. But when they arrive, I will take care of them. Now do not hurt my car too much and go save the orange sun."

Falco sighed then smiled. He switched on the engine.

"I guess I should be thankful of you worrying about my hide." And bolted away to the warehouse in Hyacinth's ride.
