"Klaus!" Amy called. Klaus sat up groggily and tried to think about whether he was imagining Amy's voice or if it was real. A few seconds later, he heard it again: "Klaus! Would you come in Savannah's room for a moment, please?"
"All right, all right," Klaus mumbled as he struggled out of the covers and got out of bed. "Don't get your knickers in a twist. I'm coming." He made his way to Savannah's room where Amy stood holding her next to the crib. "Where did the giant teddy bear come from?" Amy asked. "I've never seen it."
"Oh, that," Klaus rubbed his eyes. "Well, I got that for her. I know it's bad of me, I know it will make her spoiled, but I don't care!"
"Did I say it was bad of you?" Amy asked. "I think it's adorable!"
"Oh...you do?" Klaus asked in surprise. "Really? Because that wasn't the reaction I was expecting, honestly."
"Well," Amy shrugged. "Presents are okay as long as we don't go overboard with them. And it really is an adorable bear." She came over and handed Savannah over to him, kissing his cheek. "So," she then whispered in his ear. "Where's my really big present?"
"You'll get it in a little bit," Klaus whispered back, a grin on his lips. "Just be patient." At that point, Savannah began to whimper and Klaus shifted a little bit to get a better grip on her. "Sorry, pet," he apologized to her. "Did I hurt you?"
She stopped crying and just stared up at him, so he assumed he was forgiven.
"You know, she's really seemed to take to you," Amy observed.
"Why do you seem so surprised?" Klaus asked. "It's not like she's my first child."
"Well, I know that," Amy replied. "But you have to admit that your relationships with your other children aren't the best. The ones you actually fathered, anyway. You and Felicity seem to do all right, and I'm proud of how well you handled her moving in with Stefan."
Klaus nodded. "Well, Roxie had an apartment with her boyfriend at Felicity's age, and I figure that if I could make it through the experience of Roxie living with a guy who made her go through a pregnancy scare, then Felicity living with probably the one man I would trust with her isn't so difficult."
"But it is a little," Amy smiled. "It's okay to admit it."
Klaus nodded. "Maybe a little. It would be worse though if Savannah wasn't around. She diverts my attention well enough that I don't have time to really think about anything else."
"Well, I'm glad you're handling this all right," Amy told him, putting a stabilizing hand on his back. "But if you ever find yourself feeling bad, just tell me and we can talk, all right?"
Klaus nodded. "All right," he replied. "Thank you." He paused. "Do you need to feed her or something? I can get out of your way while you do that."
"You can do that if you want," Amy nodded. "But you know you don't have to. I'm not shy. You've already seen everything I've got anyway."
Klaus laughed. "You have a good point," he said. "But I think I'll go make a pot of coffee or something. Decaf for you. Or hot chocolate or something. Whatever."
"Thanks!" Amy called as he turned to go. "You're so sweet."
When Amy came into the kitchen, they had their coffee, and then Klaus finally gave Amy her big present. She enjoyed it very much, but wasn't able to express her gratitude properly because she didn't want to wake up the baby.
"So how bad was it?" Sam asked. He and Stefan were both sitting in the living room of the boarding house. "They didn't hurt you too bad, did they?"
"There was no 'they'," Felicity said. "Not really. I mean, Helene hurt me sure, but she was compelled to by Kol, so I can't really blame her for that, can I? It wasn't like she actually wanted to hurt me. Not again. She learned from her first mistake of taking my voice away when I was a baby. Kol controlled everything. He was the one who wanted me dead. I think it was cause that was the only way he and Helene would be a couple without any reminders of Adrian around." She noticed that Stefan's fists were clenching.
"Relax," she said. "Daddy took care of him. He's just as immobilized as Adrian is, and I'm pretty sure Dad's gonna make sure that he's never allowed out and about again."
Stefan nodded. "Well, good!" He replied. "Cause if Klaus didn't, I would!"
"Me too," Sam agreed. "Me too." He looked between Stefan and Felicity and said, "You know, not to get too sappy or anything, but I like having you two here. I like it much better than sitting around here by myself thinking about how much Dad and Lucy suck."
"Well, thanks," Felicity smiled at him. "It was nice of you to let us stay here." She went to look out the window, then turned back to Sam. "So," she said, "anything interesting to do around here, or is it pretty much boring?"
"Well," Sam thought a moment. "It's mostly boring, but there are things I like."
"Don't tell me you've infiltrated the high school and are acting like a student," Stefan said. "That's the most boring thing you could do."
"Oh, no," Sam shook his head. "I wouldn't do that. But I have tried to get in good with the town government, you know. The people in charge? That's been pretty successful so far. They all think I'm a genius, and I don't believe any of them have caught on to the fact that I'm a vampire yet."
"Ah," Stefan grinned. "Do you have a diabolical plan in mind like Damon did one of the last times we came back here to stay?"
"No, actually," Sam shook his head. "I'm doing it to be neighborly."
Stefan raised an eyebrow. "Seriously? Whose stupid idea was that?"
Sam sighed. "It was Joshua's. I think he's getting impatient with me. He says all he wants to do is rest in peace, but he can't cause he's always having to watch me and make sure I stay out of trouble."
"Who?" Felicity asked.
"Sam's older brother," Stefan replied with a smirk. "Selina and Damon's first kid. I think he died in 1939 or something. Having him was the last thing Selina did as a human."
"So he's your brother, he died, and now he haunts you?" Felicity asked Sam. "Well that just sounds delightful."
"Well, it means that I at least get personalized attention from one member of my family," Sam replied. "Even if it is all nagging and urging me to better myself."
Stefan sucked in a breath. "Sorry," he said. "I know how annoying that can be."
"You do?" Sam asked. "But I thought you were the one who was always doing the nagging."
"I know," Stefan nodded. "That's how I know how annoying it can be. And actually, in the beginning, it was your dad nagging me. I went through stages, you know, and the beginning, it was just...dark."
"And someone made you turn good?" Felicity asked. "Why was that any of their business?"
"I don't know," Stefan sighed. "Some people just can't help themselves, I guess."
"Who was it?" Felicity asked. "What were they like?"
"Her name was Lexi," Stefan replied. "She'd probably hate to see me now. I bet I'd be a big disappointment to her."
"But are you happy now?" Felicity asked Stefan.
"Well, yeah," Stefan nodded. "Duh. I think this is the first time I've been really happy since my first days with Klaus. Cause no one told me what to do then. There was no pressure to hide what I was or be good or bullshit like that. I was just myself, and that was the best."
"But you changed back once you and Daddy separated, didn't you?" Felicity asked. "You went good again?"
"Yeah," Stefan nodded. "But that was only because I had nothing better to do. Not because I really wanted to."
"Well, you don't have to worry about me making you turn good again," Felicity assured him. "I like you the way you are. And if the woman who forced you to be good ever shows up again, just tell me and I'll punch her lights out!"
Stefan chuckled and kissed her. "I have no doubt you'd do that," he said. "Now, back to the original question: are you sure you're okay from being kidnapped?"
"Yeah, I am," Felicity nodded. "I'm practically healed from the vervain dousing I got. It's not a problem."
"Well, all right," Stefan nodded. "If you're sure."
Just then, Sam stood up. "I almost forgot," he said. "I have a council meeting in a few minutes." He smirked at Stefan. "Hey," he said. "You're a founding family member too. Wanna come with me?"
"Sure!" Stefan nodded at his nephew. "Why not?"
"And what am I supposed to do?" Felicity asked. "Just sit here?"
"Well, we'd ask you to come with us," Stefan replied. "But I really don't think it's something you'd be interested in."
"I have an idea," Sam said. He ran to his room and came back with a dusty box, plunking it down on the coffee table in front of Felicity. "Read these," he suggested, taking off the lid so that Felicity could see the box was full of old diaries. "Some of them are Joshua's, some of them are my mom's, you might find them interesting."
"Fine," Felicity sighed and carefully removed the first dusty diary from the box. "You guys go and do whatever it is you're doing. I'll just stay here...by myself...alone."
"All right," Stefan grinned. "Goodbye. We'll be back, but it might be late. If you decide to go to bed before we've returned, make sure to leave the lights on for us."
"I got a call from Niklaus, and he asked me if you and I would like to come to his and Amy's house for dinner," Elijah told Selina. "Is that something you'd be willing to do?"
"Well, yeah," Selina nodded. "Frankly, I'd be more worried about your willingness for us to go have dinner with Klaus and Amy than I would mine. And I hope you offered to have them come here."
"Oh, I did," Elijah said. "And Amy said it would be easier for them to have it at their house since Savannah is still so little."
"Oh, yes," Selina smiled. "Savannah. I bet she's adorable. And I've been meaning to ask you if we could go visit Klaus anyway, so I could tell him about the state I saw Adrian in. You think he should know about that, right?"
Elijah sighed. "If you suppose he must know, nothing I can say will stop you from telling him, will it?"
"No," Selina shook her head. "Not really."
"Well, there you are, you two!" Klaus exclaimed as he ushered Selina and Elijah into his house. "So glad you could make it, and frankly, it's nice to have some new adult company. Savannah is adorable, but you can only do so much with her at this point." He paused and looked back and forth between them. "Wanna see her?"
"Of course," Elijah said and went to look. Selina stayed behind. "Actually," she said, "I have to talk to you," she said to Klaus. "It's about Adrian."
"What about him?" Klaus asked. "He's already been immobilized. What else can he possibly do that's bad?"
"Well, it's obviously nothing that's his fault!" Selina frowned. "Well, not exactly, anyway. Do you remember Hazel telling Helene that the only way the sword would come out of Adrian is if she learned to love him again?"
"Yes," Klaus nodded. "Of course I remember."
"Well, I went to bring Margaret to Lenora and James' for a visit, and Helene and Adrian's body are staying there until this whole mess blows over, apparently, and I decided to look around and see if I could find Adrian's body, just to have a look, you know? But when I found him, he was with Helene and she was stabbing him over and over and over! There was blood everywhere! Klaus, I don't care how much Adrian deserves what she's doing to him. I don't care if he'll heal up once the sword is pulled out of him. I-"
She paused when Amy cleared her throat. "Excuse me," she said. "Sorry for interrupting. I just wanted to let you two know that dinner is ready."
"All right," Klaus nodded. "Thanks for telling us, Amy. We're coming."
Most of the meal was spent in idle chatter about Savannah, but finally, Amy's curiosity got the better of her and she broached another subject.
"So what were you talking about when you first arrived?" She asked Selina. "When you mentioned the woman stabbing your son? What was that all about?"
"I don't know if that's a good thing to ask-" Elijah began, but Selina held up her hand. "It's all right, Elijah. I can talk about it now." She locked eyes with Amy. " Adrian, my oldest child with Klaus, and his wife Helene have been having difficulties for years. She's mad at him because he abandoned her when she was pregnant, and he's mad at her because he feels she has no regard for his feelings. Well, he got stabbed recently, I don't know exactly how, and now, like every other vampire on his father's side of the family who gets stabbed, he's immobilized like a statue, the sword that penetrated his body just wedged in there deep. And if that's not enough for you, I went to see his body and found his wife Helene stabbing him repeatedly with a knife. There was blood everywhere. It was awful."
"So Adrian is you and Klaus' eldest?" Amy asked. "And then Lucy and Roxie after him?"
"Yep," Klaus nodded and looked at his brother. "Add in Felicity and Savannah and my total of children that I've fathered recently comes to five. I'm catching up to you, Elijah."
"You can't count Felicity!" Elijah replied. "You didn't father her! You just raised her!"
"Even so," Klaus chuckled. "Four is not far from six. I could catch up to you easily, brother."
"Not if Selina and I decide to have another set of triplets!" Elijah countered. "Then you'll be even farther behind!"
"Hey!" Selina replied. "If you wanna have another set of triplets, find a way to give birth to them yourself, cause I'm not going through that again."
"Oh, come on!" Elijah replied. "Please?"
Selina shook her head. "My uterus is not a clown car, Elijah. It's not something that we can shove a whole bunch of babies in and see how long I last before I go insane. Besides, after six kids with you, which brings my overall grand total to eleven, I'd kind of like to just take a breather and play grandma or aunt or whatever. Get to be around cute babies and small children without the pain and misery of pregnancy and child birth. And when we decide to have our next kids, which will be an awfully long time from now, there will only be one of them at a time. Never more than that. Okay? This contest to see who can father the most children between you and your brother is absolutely ridiculous, especially since it's me and Amy who have to do all the work and you don't have to do any of the hard stuff."
Klaus opened his mouth like he wanted to protest that statement, and then thought better of it.
"Oh, all right," Elijah sighed. "Fine."
"Good," Selina nodded firmly. "Thank you."
After dinner, she and Amy went to Savannah's room so that Selina could see her.
"She's adorable," Selina said, cuddling her. "And so quiet! Next to that bear, she looks impossibly tiny."
"I know, right?" Amy nodded. "I actually just found it in here this morning. Klaus got it for her."
"Doesn't surprise me," Selina nodded. "He likes buying things for people. I was a little harsh on him about that, I think, especially after Lucy was born and Klaus was giving her all of Roxie's stuff because Roxie was gone. I suppose I could have handled that better. It was just that Roxie had all his attention and was spoiled by him and I didn't want Lucy to turn out the same way."
"I completely understand," Amy agreed. "It's gonna be tough trying to keep her grounded when she's got Klaus for a father, but I think I'll do all right." She cleared her throat. "I think I'll go attend to the dishes."
"Do you want some help?" Selina asked. "Cause I'll help."
"No, thanks," Amy grinned. "I'll do all right on my own." She left to do the dishes and Klaus came in a few minutes later. "Were you serious when you said you wanted to get Adrian's body away from Helene?" He asked her.
"Well, yeah!" Selina nodded. "If you'd seen what she was doing, you'd want him as far away from her as possible too!"
Klaus nodded. "And I'm assuming you don't want to go back there again?"
"No," Selina shook her head. "Not if I can help it."
"All right," Klaus nodded. "I will. And maybe I'll take Roxanne with me. She and Vince just grudgingly moved Joey into a new apartment at Enid's and I think she could use the distraction."
"Thanks," Selina nodded. "And you'll call me when you two manage to get him out?"
"Of course," Klaus nodded. "Of course I will."
Just then, Elijah knocked on Savannah's bedroom door. "Are you ready to go, Selina?"
"Yeah," Selina nodded. "I am." She looked at Klaus. "Thanks for a lovely evening," she said. "Would you please pass along the message to Amy?"
And Klaus nodded. "As you wish," he replied.
