This one is from the song Lover Boy by Phum Viphurit. I highly suggest always R&R please. Side note: I am not opposed to any criticism either. I mean, how do you get to be a better writer if no one tells you the things to work on? XOXO Hotmess
Wandering the streets all through the night,
Searching for the one to make me right.
Wondering if she's the shade of you,
And If so, should I try to see it through
Shikamaru always enjoyed his evening strolls. It gave him a sense of freedom that was otherwise restricted in his day to day life. He could go wherever, do whatever, without having to consider any major repercussions. There was also something so satisfying about letting the breeze hit his face. The hot August heat would disappear when the sun set, and Shikamaru enjoyed the light cool breeze. But the breeze wasn't right tonight. It was harsh and brutal, singling to him only one possibility.
He instantly knew trouble was around, and secretly, he wanted to bump into her.
As he wandered the streets aimlessly, it was quickly apparent that it was a holiday. The normally docile time was filled with noise, and his empty streets were replaced with crowded ones. The chances of running into her were slim at best, and there was a tinge of disappointment, and he couldn't place where it stemmed from. Did he actually like the brazen sand nin?
When he finally let his thoughts wander, he collided with a blonde woman dressed in a silk kimono. Aggravated with himself, he apologized quickly, "I'm sorry. I was distracted, and I didn't see you there."
As the woman turned around, her bright teal eyes locked with his hazel ones, and her bold laugh filled his ear canals. She smiled at him, and the fluttering feeling turned in his stomach. He had never gotten used to the way she smiled. And if he was being completely honest with himself, he knew he never would.
She swiftly continued, "It's unlike you to be distracted. Need me to pick up the pieces, Crybaby?"
It was incredible how with her hair down, Temari passed as an ordinary woman, and how in her kimono, she was an absolutely stunning one. He noted that she had even replaced her signature fishnet stockings with modest ones. She was now a shadow of her former brutality, and a shade of something new for Shikamaru to think about. Was he really falling for her?
He grinned to hide his slight panic at the thought, "You'll never let that go, will you?"
She continued her teasing, "I'll stop as soon as you stop calling me troublesome." She proceeded past their banter, "but it is very much unlike you to not be observant of your surroundings. Is there something I can help with? As the ambassador for Suna, I can offer my assistance."
Shikamaru sighed as he placed his hand on the back of his neck and rubbing it. He tried to see if telling her would be the best idea, but for the first time in a long time, he reacted without thinking. "Actually, you were the reason I was distracted."
Temari's flushed cheeks were suddenly brushed with a light pink hue. "Oh."
Shikamaru quickly added, "I meant that I knew you were here. The breeze changed in Konoha, and I figured I would try to find you."
As they moved off to the side and close to an alley, he couldn't believe what he had just said. There he went again: he couldn't see things through.
Darling, I got my trust issues.
Warning, you stay away.
If we meet at the rendezvous,
take me away, Sunray
Temari felt her cheeks get hot, but she couldn't control it. All of her emotional training was taken away when she was around him. He always swept her into the moment. When she had picked out her kimono for the festival she stood among now, there was a small part of her that wanted to see Shikamaru while she was in it. It was a beautiful shade of purple decorated with lilacs and hunter green leaves. She internally laughed as she realized why she was so drawn to it: it merged the two of them together.
"So instead of enjoying the festivities, you were planning to search through every street for a chance to find me." She smiled as she looked out at all of the happy couples and families gathered at this rendezvous, and she looked up at him. When did he get so much taller than her?
"All of that sounds troublesome."
He met her gaze without any hesitation, "Would you like to go somewhere together tonight?"
She never once looked away and she knew how to make him squirm. It was always fun to make him uneasy. Not many people could after all.
She gleefully replied, "That sounds nice."
He continued, "I trust that this isn't some game to you, is it?"
She interlocked her fingers with his. She wasn't why they fit so perfectly, but there was no denying that they did. She forcefully yanked him back into the sea of people. As she pulled him forward, Temari replied, "Don't tell me we have trust issues already."
Time and toys,
May fill my heart with joy,
As she glanced upon a game booth, Temari's face lit up as she saw a small ferret plushie. She had never been one for mementos but every now and again, somethings needed to be remembered.
Shikamaru felt her strong-willed attitude suddenly go passive as they passed the many game booths. He resisted her pull and softly redirected her direction to a booth with rubber ducks in a tin tub of water. He was so unlucky. The one booth with a plushie that caught her eye would be one that relied on the luck of the draw. But as she smiled timidly when he looked back at her, he couldn't help giving the booth tender his money.
As he observed those around him grab a duck randomly, he noticed a probable pattern. Even if people picked at random, there was always an algorithm attached that he could find if he studied it enough. And as he was about to grab one, her hand reached out from beside him for it first. As she flipped the bottom of it over, it revealed that she had won the ferret plushie she had been gushing over.
She giggled as she pointed to her prize, "You think too much sometimes, Shikamaru."
He sighed, "That was just dumb luck for you. What if you hadn't won that ferret?"
She grasped her plushie and looked at him earnestly, "It wasn't about the plushie, stupid," She grabbed his hand once again, "It was about remembering this moment. And in this moment, I feel absolute joy."
I'll know peace when I'm your lover boy.
Dumbfounded by her oddly profound words, Shikamaru mustered up the courage to smirk back at her. "I need to tell you something."
Temari slowed her pace to walk by his side as they made their way to the outskirts of the festival. "I'm listening."
He struggled to find the words that would accurately describe his feelings in this moment. It was so emotionally powerful that all his strategic reasoning was tossed to the side. He was falling for her. And he imagined that when someone realized they were falling for someone else, they already were in love.
"If you are gonna give me a pet name, can you change it to something other than Crybaby."
Once again, she revealed her pearly whites to him. "Alright, I will call you lover boy from now on."
Shikamaru shook his head, "You're kidding right?"
And as those words left his mouth, he wanted her to say no.
I'll be your new school soul.
Silver and gold. New desire.
Friends on fire.
Temari clutched his hand tightly as she headed for the Nara lands. She had become very familiar with them as they had become closer friends. And as the quiet sounds of the forest replaced the hustle and bustle of the village streets, Temari understood why Shikamaru liked the calm moments in life.
"You are an old soul that just wants to play shouji all day. You know that right?"
He watched as the pretty woman led him into the tranquility of his forest. There was something so peaceful about being with her tonight, and it overshadowed her cruelty and belligerent Shinobi nature. In a brief glimpse, he got to see her as a shade of herself.
Suddenly, what his father told him years ago finally made sense.
"Sure. I won't argue that I want simplicity," He felt her grip tighten as he was paraded around to his favorite hill by her. "But I wouldn't say I am an old soul."
She continued up the hill, suddenly overcome by the realization that she was restricted by her decorative kimono. She tried to distract herself by looking back at him, but his soft gaze made her blush profusely. It was the opposite result she wanted, "I wouldn't call you a new school soul, that's for sure."
As they reached the top of the hill, they glanced over the dense forest they had trekked through to get there. The silver moonlight created beautiful shadows on shallow ponds and small light bugs twinkled gold around the entire area. If she hadn't been so nervous, Temari would have admired the scenery. It was everything she loved about Konoha in one place. It was the reassurance she needed to tease him once again.
As she sat down, Shikamaru followed her lead. She spoke admiringly, "Crybaby, you never took me here when it was so breathtaking."
Smoothly, Shikamaru interjected, "Well, I also never saw you look so breathtaking so now we're even."
She looked at him, blushing even harder in the process. He gently caressed her neck with his fingers, and then played with her loose strands of sandy blonde hair.
It was much unlike himself, but Temari felt unlike herself tonight too. And maybe that was what made them so special together. They would always be themselves, but in the quiet simple moments, they were more than that. They were perfect synergy, and friendship set ablaze. And it had all started from acknowledging each other as equals in their battle years ago.
He motioned for her to stand up and look at the moon with him. "Didn't I ask for a new pet name?"
She smirked as she got close to him and stood on her tip toes to meet his shoulder blades. With her teal eyes, she invited Shikamaru to make a move. "What should I call you then?"
Call me 'lover boy'
He grabbed her waist and pushed his lips into hers with such delicacy that Temari doubted that there was any contact. Leave it to Shikamaru to be so gentle with a ruthless woman. As she pushed her lips harder into his, she allowed herself to get lost in the moment.
Shikamaru smirked as he held her tightly in his arms and slipped away from her aggressive kissing tactics. "Call me your lover boy."
Darling, I got my trust issues.
Warning, you stay away.
If we meet at the rendezvous,
take me away, Sunray
Temari was surprised at how effortlessly she had trusted Shikamaru throughout their years and in their interactions. She was always guarded and warned everyone that she would be in control and calling the shots. But as time moved forward, he had broken all of her barriers while still allowing her to control her world. He never stayed away when she pushed him to, and for a lazy Shinobi, he put quite a bit of effort into impressing her. He had made the sand flower bloom into something more than a killing machine. And in this stunning new rendezvous spot of theirs, she fell completely for him.
But as she breathlessly replied, Temari admitted she had fallen for him a long time ago, "I can't say that in public though."
Shikamaru held the strong beautiful woman in his arms longer than he thought she would let him, "Well then I guess it'll be our little secret then, Suna Sunray."
