Chapter 25
"So, what does Harry like?" Draco asked as they passed different shops. He had been so grateful that Granger knew of a secret passage to Hogsmeade since he didn't have a signed consent.
"He never really talks about those things but I suppose its Quidditch and sweets." Granger replied, smiling at Draco.
"What're you going to get him?" Draco continued, wondering what else Harry would appreciate.
"I'm not quite sure but perhaps some new gloves for Quidditch, the ones he's using now are quite worn out already." Draco wondered how on earth he would be able to buy a present for someone who only liked two things. He scratched the back of his neck and looked around, hoping to find the perfect present. He wanted to give something which would make up for the lost years. He wanted to give something which would show how much he loved Harry. Draco sighed. This was going to be very difficult.
2 hours later and he still hadn't found anything. Draco scowled at his reflection which stared back at him while he browsed the antique shop from outside. He couldn't very well give Harry a chest because who the hell does that? Draco's mood had turned sour an hour before and there was nothing to brighten his mood. He figured he might as well enter the shop since nothing could possibly make his situation worse. As he was looking through the necklaces in the store a flash of gold caught his eye. He furrowed his brows and reached out to the gold bangle of some sort. He was surprised to find silver letters forming on the surface of the bangle. It read "H&D" with the ampersand a snake with piercing blue eyes.
"How may I help you?" A portly man who seemed to be in his mid fifties asked Draco who accidentaly dropped te bangle on the table in front of him as he was surprised by the man's sudden appearance.
"I'm sorry!" Draco apologized not knowing exactly what he had just dropped. The portly man simply smiled at him and picked the bangle up.
"This is a Bonding Clasp" he explained. "It shows your initial along with the initial of the person you share the strongest bond with."
"Oh..." was all Draco could say. So he shared the strongest bond with Harry. He smiled. Even after 3 years of fighting, a bonding clasp identified their relationship to be the strongest. The man studied the clasp and frowned slightly.
"May I ask, are you engaged?" He asked in a curious yet delighted tone. Draco just stared at him in confusion.
"It's just that the serpent's eyes glowed blue and that signifies a very strong bond. Actually, some people who are engaged still aren't strongly bonded to each other for the serpent's eyes to glow blue. You must be very lucky, sir." The shopkeeper (or so Draco assumed he was) continued.
"Really?" Draco asked in fascination. He was bonded to Harry so strongly that it was above marriage? Was there even a stronger bond?
"Yes, yes. A Bonding Clasp used to be given as a wedding gift, actually. It was to serve proof of the reality of a couple's love but due to the arranged marriages among the families, it has become quite useless as it ceased showing the initials of the engaged." The shopkeeper assured Draco. Wedding gift? It would be perfect to show Harry how serious he was but what if it scared Harry away? Draco contemplated the possibilities of that happening. Harry wasn't the type to run away, everybody knew that but Draco was afraid. He couldn't lose Harry all over again. He sighed audibly. He was losing time, he should just buy it.
"How much for it, then?" He asked.
"60 Galleons, sir" the man replied. He handed over the correct amount and put the box wherein the clasp was secured, in his coat pocket. Draco smiled at himself. He finally found a gift for Harry.
"Malfoy! There you are!" A female voice which Draco figured belonged to Granger said from behind him. "I've been looking everywhere for you!" She exclaimed. Draco smiled sheepishly. He had abandoned her when she became too engrossed on the books in one of the shops they had gone into.
"Let's eat?" He invited instead.
Draco hid his present for Harry in the bottom of his trunk and figured he'd go look for Harry. He checked their common room and the library but he couldn't find the brunette. Where could Harry be? Draco sighed. He realized that he had been sighing a lot that day. He just wanted all the best for Harry. He walked back to the dungeons and told himself that he'd wait for Harry there.
