Eureka From A to Z

Youth Will Be Served

The last thing Jack wanted to see in his driveway was that car. After catching the two of them in his garage, Lucas had been put notice that he was now on Jack's endangered species list.

And yes, Zoë was a technically a woman, but that didn't mean she was ready for all it entailed. Before long, she'd be on her own, but while she was under his jurisdiction, he would make sure her innocence stayed intact.

Tess had warned him that he should ease up, as his constant intrusion would only prompt Zoë to act out in defiance. They'd come a long way in their relationship, and he didn't want to destroy what had taken them so long to build. Inherently, he did trust her judgement, so he stayed at arms length when it came to her boyfriend; or so she thought.

The one advantage of being Sheriff, was that he had a cache of surveillance equipment at his disposal. Consequently, whenever Zoë was beyond Jack's reach; and within Lucas', he made sure to keep a watchful eye. The one place he thought he'd be safe from worry was in his own home. He had S.A.R.A.H to monitor them and she would no doubt report any funny business. But, he also had to remember that S.A.R.A.H, on more than one occasion had been Zoë's accomplice; unwitting or not.

So, when he walked through the bunker door only to be greeted by an empty living space, his blood pressure spiked immediately.

"Welcome home Sheriff. Zoë's … "

"Not another word S.A.R.A.H," he commanded as he marched steadfastly on, "and don't you dare warn Zoë!"

Furious, he bounded upstairs, mentally preparing himself for what might lay ahead.

He'd given Zoë a wide berth, but his one absolute was no boys in her room, and now she'd broken his rule.

In position, he hesitantly placed his ear to the door, afraid of what he might hear. He listened at the deafening silence, uncertain if it was a good or bad sign.

Waiting for what felt like hours; he screened for any indication of what was happening on the other side. He didn't want to rush in, because if they were doing what he suspected, he'd surely have a heart attack. But when he heard Zoë shriek in wild abandonment, he decided enough was enough.

Lucas had been warned, and now, he was a dead man.

Bursting in, he immediately went from seeing red, to red-faced embarrassment.

"Uh, Dad?" Her look of confusion was mirrored on the faces of Lucas and Pilar.

"I uh… well I thought… never-mind."

Mortified, he left; the sounds of raucous laughter echoing above.

He should have had faith in Zoë, but frankly, his nerves couldn't take much more.

Pouring himself a beer, he was fairly certain of one thing…

He'd never have to deal with raising another teenager again.
