(Nightwing POV.)
When I finally came too it was to the smell of rotting wood and the feel of chains around my wrists and ankles. I tried remembering what happened but the pounding headache was making that a very difficult task.
That's when I heard a door open somewhere off to the left and saw a flash of orange in the oddly threatening black shadows. All of a sudden every memory of the past twenty four hours came rushing back to me at full speed.
The giant fight with the villains, Robins kidnapping, talking to Red X, Bats tracking down Robin, flying to Slade's newest warehouse and finally my self sacrifice to Slade for Robin.
I really have to work on thinking of better plans than just bargaining with the villains.
I noticed movement in my peripheral vision and turned my head to see what it was.
That's when I came face to face with the black and orange nightmare that had haunted me for the past year or so.
And saw the only slightly concealed gun on his right hip.
When my gaze finally traveled up and settled on his eye I couldn't help but acknowledge the little ball of fear that was growing in the pit of my stomach.
"Hello Nightwing. Its nice to have you back."
I answered with what I hoped was a very strong batglare that he regarded calmly.
"Don't look at me like that." I definitely felt the slap to my face before I registered it.
"This time around you will respect me. I am your new master and you will obey me."
I looked back defiantly, fighting back every bit of common sense and fear that screamed at me to just listen to him for now, and growled out, " Never."
I heard his dark chuckle that would have probably sent shivers down even Bruce's spine.
"OH, we have a little renegade here, don't we. Well that can be easily fixed."
Then the attacks came. A punch to my face that at least cracked my nose. A kick to my chest that probably broke a rib. A karate chop to my shoulder that dislocated it at least. And so many more. The pain just kept coming.
What felt like at least an hour later eventually came and he stopped, saying he would be back later for a different, correct answer.
Then I was left alone, in immense pain and still chained to the wall in a limp kneeling position, only behind held up by what bonded me there.
I had heard him tell the man he called wintergreen to tend to my injuries on the way out, so I quickly catalogued them before he came back with medical supplies.
A nose I was sure was broken, at least three cracked or broken ribs, a shattered knee, a dislocated shoulder, a broken wrist and to many bruises, cuts and stab wounds to count.
I heard Wintergreen come back a felt a surprisingly gentle hand pull my good wrist up and inject me with what had to be knockout meds because the tug of unconsciousness became irresistible.
And I happily fell into the black realm that awaited me.
But not before I heard the breaking of a window and screams a little ways away in the warehouse.
