Deception

I let out a groan of frustration at the sound of my alarm ringing from my phone. I reached over to grab my phone and cut off the alarm. I checked the time, noticing that I had a little over an hour before I had to get to school, the last place I wanted to be right now.

Part of the reason was because I didn't know if I would be able to control my powers with my emotions all over the place, another part of the reason was because I had no interest in seeing Jett or Kendall. On top of all that, I just felt… empty. It was like a part of me was ripped out when I saw Kendall with Jett.

I decided to brush everything away for now, knowing that my mom would kill me if she found out I skipped school again not once but twice.

I pulled myself together, making my way to the bathroom to get ready leave. As soon as I turned the light on, I winced when I looked myself over in the mirror. My hair was disheveled instead of it looking halfway presentable like it usually did when I woke up, my skin looked a little pale as opposed to my usual tanned skin, and my eyes were bloodshot.

I turned the water on, making sure it was cold before splashing some over my face, hoping that it would take away some of the redness from my eyes. After a few seconds, I dried my face off and looked back in the mirror, noticing that they were still red, but not as noticeable as before.

I let out a sigh, deciding that it would have to as I went to finish getting ready.

XxX

As soon as I walked into school, I immediately regretted my decision to come today.

I didn't feel any better than I did when I woke up this morning, and seeing all these couples were just making me more upset.

"James! Wait up!" I momentarily stiffened at the voice, but that only lasted a second as I suddenly felt overwhelmed with anger.

"What?" I snapped, turning to face the blonde. I could tell I caught him off guard by the way he stopped for a second, giving me a worried look.

"Uh… I wanted to apologize for not being able to hang out with you last night since I lost my phone but now I'm more worried about you. Are you okay?" He asked, taking a couple steps towards me, with me taking a couple steps back to keep the distance between us.

"You're unbelievable. First you make up some lame excuse about losing your phone, which I might actually believe if I hadn't seen you last night. Or have you forgotten about that already?" I spat, ignoring the hurt and confused look on his face.

"Okay first, I really did lose my phone. And second, what are you talking about? I didn't see you last night." He said.

"Whatever." I said, turning around and walking away, wanting to put as much distance between the two of us as possible. But I could tell by the sound of someone trailing behind me that he wasn't going to let me.

"James just wait a second!" He yelled, grabbing my wrist to stop me. As soon as he grabbed my wrist he quickly pulled back, letting out a little cry of pain. I looked down at my hand, noticing little sparks of electricity coming from my hand.

I quickly balled my hands up, hoping that it would make the sparks less noticeable before running off to the restroom, ignoring the worried calls coming from Kendall.

It took me less than a minute to make it to my restroom, with me checking to see if anyone was inside before making my way over to the mirror. I opened up my hands, noticing that the sparks were starting to increase. I looked up in the mirror at myself, my eyes widening when I noticed the seemingly glowing golden flecks in my eyes.

I quickly regained my composure, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. I continued this for about a minute, feeling better as I opened my eyes. I glanced down at my hands again, relieved to see that there were no sparks coming from them.

I jumped a little at the sound of the door opening, but relaxed slightly when I saw that it was just Jett.

"Hey." He said softly, cautiously taking a couple steps towards me.

"Leave me alone Jett." I snarled, knowing that I should probably get out of here before I had another issue with my powers.

"Look, I know you're probably pissed. And you have every right to be. But just give me a chance to explain. Please?" He pleaded while giving me a hopeful look.

As much as I wanted to yell at him, or at least give him a good shock, part of me wanted to know what was going between Jett and Kendall. And I know that I couldn't face Kendall just yet, so Jett would have to do.

"Fine." I said, knowing that I would probably regret this.

Kendall P.O.V.

To say that I was worried would be an understatement.

The day was almost over and there was still no sign of James. And ever since this morning, I just knew that something weird was going on.

"Kendall? You okay?" Logan asked, looking up from his book, giving me a worried look.

I had study hall with Logan now, which gave me a chance to try and figure out what was going on and what he meant when he said he saw me last night. Even though I just kept coming up blank, which Logan must have noticed.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking." I said, knowing it wasn't a complete lie.

I really was thinking, but on the inside I was freaking out. Especially after my run-in with James earlier. I know something was wrong with him, especially since his powers seemed a little out of control again. But I just kept thinking about his words.

"Kendall?" I looked up, noticing Jett standing there looking a little nervous.

"Hey." I said, giving him a small smile.

I had decided to try and get back to being friends with the actor, especially after seeing how much he had helped James. And even though I couldn't deny that I still had some kind of feelings towards him, my feelings for James were stronger.

"Hey. Look, about last night…" He said, clearly trying to find the right words. But my mind was on the last few words he just said.

"What are you talking about? I didn't see you last night. I didn't even talk to you last night." I said, giving him a confused look.

"Wait, so you're telling me that it wasn't you that kissed me last night?" He asked, starting to look a little pale.

"What?!" I yelled, getting the attention of a few people.

"Calm down!" Logan hissed at me before turning his attention to Jett. "Kendall was with me and Carlos last night. He was supposed to hang out with James but he lost his phone. We were going to let him use one of our phones but we kinda lost track of time when we started playing video games." Logan explained, looking to be a little embarrassed at the last part.

"Then we have a problem. A BIG problem." Jett said, motioning for us to follow him. Logan and I exchanged looks but decided to follow him, wanting to know what was going on.

"Okay," Jett started when we were out of earshot of everyone else. "James may have seen you and me making out last night." He said, continuing when he saw the look on my face. "But it's pretty clear now that it wasn't you." He said, sounding both guilty and disappointed.

"Okay, you've got one minute to explain what the hell is going on before I lose it." I said, quickly losing my temper and wanting to understand what was going on.

"Have you had any contact with Dak lately? Any contact at all?" He asked.

"Yeah, I think it was last week sometime. What does that have to do with anything?" I asked impatiently.

"Dak has powers like us. He's basically a shapeshifter. All he has to do is touch you, just the slightest touch, and he can steal your identity. Somehow he must have figured out about your plans to meet up with James and morphed into you so that James would think you and me were back together or something."

As soon as the words left his mouth, everything started to click into place. Why James was so upset, the feeling that I got when Dak had bumped into me, everything.

"I'm going to kill him." I snarled, already turning to hunt him down before Jett stopped me.

"Kendall, wait." He said, taking a couple steps closer to me before turning to Logan. "Would you mind if I spoke to Kendall alone for a second?"

Logan stared at Jett for a second before turning towards me, silently asking if I was alright with it.

"Go. I'll be fine." I said, watching as Logan gave me a small smile before heading back to the library.

Jett and I stood there in silence for few seconds before he suddenly broke it.

"I'm really sorry Kendall. I didn't mean to mess up James' progress or mess up your relationship. And I honestly should've known that it wasn't you last night. I just… I was selfish. I guess I just wanted to believe that there was still a chance for us." He said softly, doing his best to avoid eye contact with me.

And as much as I wanted to be completely angry with him, especially knowing what happened, I could tell that he meant every word he said.

"Jett," I sighed, wanting to choose my words carefully. "I'm not going to lie to you, I am a little pissed. But there's also a part of me that still has feelings for you. Probably always will." I said, feeling bad for giving him false hope as I watched his eyes light up a little. "But I love James. It's always going to be James." I finished, wanting nothing more than to talk to James and clear this mess up.

"I understand." He said, giving me a small smile while holding his hand out. "Can we go back to being friends at least?" He asked, sounding a little more than hopeful.

"We'll see." I said, still not one hundred percent sure if I wanted him back in my life. "What's wrong?" I asked, when I looked up, noticing the disgusted look on his face.

"I just realized that I basically kissed Dak." He said, looking like he was going to throw up any second now, which I couldn't help but laugh at.

He was getting ready to say something else when the bell suddenly rang.

"Look Jett, I gotta-" I started only to be cut off by Jo, who suddenly came up to Jett.

"Jett? What are you doing back?" She asked, only to get a confused look from Jett.

"What are you talking about?" He asked, starting to look a little worried.

"Well, I saw you leave earlier with James. And I heard some people saying something about a family emergency?" She said, even though it came out as more a question when she noticed the lost look on Jett's face that quickly changed.

"James!" Jett and I both yelled at the same time.

"It's Dak. It's gotta be." Jett muttered as dragged me away from everyone else so that they couldn't hear.

"But what would he want with James?" I asked, getting more worried by the second.

"I don't know but whatever it is, I can assure you it's not good." He said, as we rounded a corner, coming into an empty hallway.

"Do you have any idea where they might be?" I asked urgently.

"I think I know where they are. I just can't think of a reason that Dak would want him." He muttered, but I was already formulating a plan in my head.

"Alright, if you want to prove to me that I can trust you, then you can start by helping me get James back." I said, knowing that I would need his help if I was going to get James back.

"Don't have to ask me twice. I owe it to him anyway." He replied.

"Alright. Let's go get James back." I said, with him quickly nodding in agreement.

James P.O.V.

"Uh… Jett? Mind telling me where we're going?" I asked as we turned on an unfamiliar street.

"We're making a quick stop. There's someone that I think you should see." He said vaguely as he made another turn, pulling into someone's driveway.

I glanced up at the house, noticing that it was more like a mansion.

"Come on." He said as he got out of the car and headed up to the door, with me following close behind.

I watched as he took out a key from his pocket, unlocking the door before moving to the side, letting me walk in first.

I gave him an uneasy look before reluctantly walking in, coming face to face with someone that I thought I would never see again.

Cliffy! So, quite a bit happened this chapter and I'm sorry if it was confusing for any of you. The next couple chapters will basically explain everything. But this chapter you all found out that it wasn't really Kendall that was with Jett, it was Dak, whose powers basically make him a shape shifter. I know you all are probably relieved to hear that. :p

So, who do you think Jett (who is really Dak in disguise) took James to? It was kinda hinted at last chapter ;)

Next chapter will probably be a little short and will be up sometime next week, with a longer chapter that will explain everything coming next weekend!

So what'd you all think? It would really be amazing if I could get another 10 reviews by the next update

Until next time!
