(At Iris's Palace)
"Give me one good reason you won't go?" Patrick hurried to keep up with his friend as the two made their way down the golden hallway
"You are a moron."
Patrick pouted as he placed a hand to his heart, "Pitch, why do you always say such mean things to me?"
"Sometimes the truth hurts Patrick."
"Please Pitch you have to come with me." Patrick begged his friend as they made their way down the golden hallway. The spirit followed Pitch when he turned and went into the library.
"No, I already told you I was staying here today. I have things to do." The spirit smirked as he began pulling books from the shelves
The Leprechaun strolled across the library and flopped down onto one of the oversized couches, "Look I will be there and back. It won't take more than a few hours at the most."
Pitch began stacking the books on one of the larger tables, "Patrick, Iris told you to stay here."
Patrick grinned, "Yes, but she is at a meeting with Lilybell. And the two of them always go shopping afterwards so I have all day to get back."
"And the fact that tomorrow is the day its open session on Patrick doesn't concern you at all?" the spirit snorted as he grabbed more books and placed them with the others.
The Leprechaun grinned, "What spirit would think to look for me in Ireland?"
"Only spirits with a brain." Pitch rolled his eyes, "It is the most obvious place to look."
Patrick laughed, "See, since it is so obvious no one will look there. Genius right?"
"Not the word I'd use."
"Well if you're so concerned come with me." A look of excitement came to Patrick's face at the prospect of dragging Pitch along
"Oh no, I am not leaving the Palace today." Pitch shook his head, "Iris asked me to catalogue her spell books for her."
"Suck up." The Leprechaun stuck out his tongue as he got to his feet, "Well if you decide you want to live a little I'll be in Atawna Village meeting a guy named Shax."
"Don't hold your breath." Pitch shielded his eyes as the Freyal descended and swirled around his friend. The Nightmare King frowned when he noticed how dim the rainbow seemed, "Perhaps I should tag along…" the man shook his head, "No, Patrick can handle himself." He then returned to the task of sorting the libraries numerous books.
(Ireland)
"Damn that took a lot out of me." Patrick panted as Freyal swirled back into the sky, "Maybe Pitch was right…" he thought as he made his way down the quiet cobblestone streets
"Saint Patrick so good of you to come!" a voice echoed in the air
Patrick startled when a man started towards him. The spirit was in his early thirties, a head full of combed black hair gave the spirit a slightly sinister look. Despite this the man wore a friendly expression as he approached. "Ummm, are you Shax?"
The spirit nodded, a smile on his face, "That I am. Surprised you came on such short notice." He extended his hand.
"No problem, your message stated that there is a treasure you're looking for?" Patrick spoke as he took the spirit's hand.
Shax nodded, "I have heard rumors of a treasure that will make a person ten times stronger than they are normally." He grinned, "I also heard that you were the best for the job."
Patrick smirked, "I don't like to brag but…you heard right."
"Come on I'll buy you a round before we go."
Patrick glanced at the afternoon sky, "Ummm, I would rather go on ahead and get started…" he startled when the man placed an arm around his shoulder
"Non-sense! There is always time for a quick drink." Shax smirked as he led the reluctant spirit down the street and into a small tavern.
"I guess one round won't hurt." The Leprechaun sighed as he followed the spirit into the room and to a table at the back. He glanced at the group of spirits already at the table, fully enjoying themselves, "Shax, seems the table's taken."
The man nodded, "Meet the rest of the group." Shax motioned to the three spirits
An uneasy feeling crept over Patrick, "Thought it would just be you."
"You worried about something?" one of the spirits smiled as he turned his mug up, downing the entire content
Patrick forced a grin, "Just don't like to be outnumbered when it comes to treasure jobs."
Shax laughed, "I can respect that." He glanced at the group, "How about an oath guys?" he glanced at the table.
The other spirits glanced at each other, "Sure why not." The group all nodded
"I Shax here by swear that the members of the Besnik Gang won't kill you." he held out his hand
A bright light erupted from the spirit's hands when Patrick took it
Patrick grinned, "Ok, I feel a little better."
"Then have a seat." The spirit that had first spoken motioned for Patrick to join them. "I'm Revatal by the way." The man grinned a plume of smoke escaped his mouth, "Summer spirit."
Another man next to him rolled his eyes, "Revatal, you act like being a Summer is the best." He offered a hand to Patrick who had taken a seat, "Names Terrin."
"Earth spirit?" Patrick glanced at the small rocks that were imbedded in the spirit's skin
"Damn right." The man laughed and downed his mug. He slammed it down hard on the table, "Hey go get me another." Terrin shouted at the end of the table
Patrick glanced at the young spirit that was sitting silent at the end of the table. The spirit looked to be in his early twenties. Shaggy brown hair gave the young man a disheveled look, his hazel eyes were downcast as he got to his feet and went to the bar. "Who's that?" the Leprechaun shuddered slightly as the spirit walked by him
Revatal laughed, "That would be Devlon. Found him a few days ago, kid wanted to join the gang so we let him." he smirked at the young spirit as Devlon handed him his mug, "He's not that strong but he's good with chores."
Patrick noticed the glint that came to the spirits hazel eyes, it was gone in an instant as the young spirit returned to his seat, "So now that I've been introduced to everyone how about we get this search going."
"All in good time Patrick." Shax laughed, "Devlon go get Patrick a round."
Patrick sighed as the young spirit left and returned within seconds, "Thanks." He took the mug and downed the drink, "Can we go now? My wife is expecting me home soon."
Shax laughed, "Oh all right fine." The man motioned to the other spirits, "Let's go guys."
Patrick sighed and followed the group out of the bar and into the street, "So where are we going?"
Shax grinned, "You'll see." The spirit closed his eyes as he prepared to transport the group to their destination
"Why do I have a bad feeling about this?" Patrick sighed as a thick smoke settled around them, within seconds the smoke cleared allowing Patrick to see a large forest, "So is this the place?"
Shax nodded, "This is it."
"You ok Patrick." Revatal smirked at the spirit that stumbled in his step
Patrick wiped the sweat that had formed on his brow, "Yeah, sure. Fine." The Leprechaun coughed, "Moon what is wrong with me?" he frowned when his body suddenly felt as if it were on fire.
Shax sneered when Patrick fell sideways, "So Patrick, did you enjoy your last drink?" he laughed at the spirit as he had to catch himself against a tree trunk
"Damn it, bastard put something…in…drink…" the spirit tried to call Freyal but he couldn't feel his power. It was as if a void had taken its place, he glared at the spirits, "What the…hell is…going on?"
"Well if you must know Patrick, Devlon here is the Spirit of Misfortune. And just you being around him has sped up the process of you losing your power." The man laughed when Patrick slid down the trunk, his body slumping.
"I will never…hear the end of this…from Pitch." Mismatched eyes began to close as the drug began to take its final hold. The last thing Patrick was aware of before black filled his vision was laughing of the spirits that had tricked him.
