Chapter 25: The First Try
By the end of dinner, Kikyo made sure she kept a close eye on Kagome. Just so to make sure she didn't change her mind about staying after. Even though she calmed her sister down by staying after school for her volleyball team, she might be having doubts. But that won't get in her way as they head to bed. On the other hand, Ai and Hige are concerned for their daughters. "Are you sure we did the right thing?" Ai asks after she comes out of their bathroom. Hige is about to get into bed. "I'm sure Kikyo has it under control. It's not the first time Kagome got herself into trouble and Kikyo had to take care of her while we were away." He said softly. Ai nods and gets onto her side of their bed. "It's hard to imagine for how much time has effected them so far." She comments in the end after they get themselves comfortable for the night.
Kagome is in her bed, but not sleeping. All she's doing is looking outside of her bedroom window. 'Did I regret my decision?' She asks in her head. Even after that talk, she can't get over it, no matter what. She looks at her clock saying it close to midnight. 'I might as well deal what tomorrow will bring for me.' She said as she goes back to sleep.
The next day, Kagome and Kikyo got themselves ready for school. Ai is cleaning the dishes and such. "Now remember Kagome. I'll be notified rather or not you're staying after school." Ai reminds her daughter. Kagome nods. "I'll be there." She replies and runs out the door. Kikyo stops at the doorway and turns around. Ai gives the 'keep an eye on her' look. Kikyo nods and goes to her school.
Kagome's day was uneventful at the lease. All there is are just classes and stuff that they have to remember for any upcoming tests and such. The only time Kagome felt at ease was during her lunch period with her friends. Sango, Miroku and Inuyasha offer to stay after school so Kagome wouldn't freak out. Kagome told them they shouldn't because she believed it'd be pointless to wait for someone for about an hour at the least. But that didn't stop them nonetheless. It came to that Kagome had no choice but the accept their offer. As in they don't take no for answer.
It's the end of the school, which means everyone is going home. Well there's a few who decided to stay after for various purposes. Like for those who play for the school's team, clubs of different purposes. And of course, there's Kagome. Her purpose; to make sure she's more comfortable. But that's easier said than done. She's literally not looking forward towards this. She enters the room to find a few familiar students she met before, but not personally though. "Hi there." She greets Mrs. Inoue with a sad look.
Mrs. Inoue on the other hand had a hunch something like this would happen. "Hey, don't feel so down. I'll tell you what." Kagome looks up to her curiously. "Once the kids leave the building, I'll take you to the cafeteria so you can get yourself something to drink and a snack." She closes her eyes with a nice expression. Kagome nods without saying anything at the moment. She makes her way to an empty desk and pulls out what homework assignments are to be finished.
A few minutes later, the students left the building, which gives Kagome and Mrs. Inoue a chance to go to the cafeteria. "Ready?" Mrs. Inoue asks as she leads Kagome to where the cafeteria is. Kagome nods again and follows her from behind. They enter the cafeteria to see two vending machines. One for the drinks and one for the snacks. "Let's get you a drink. What would you like?" Mrs. Inoue asks as they get in front of the beverage machine. Kagome looks on the list to see which one is right for her. "I'd like some Hawaiian punch please." Kagome requests as she gives the teacher the required money for the product. Kagome watches Mrs. Inoue put in the coins and presses the button. The can comes to the small opening at the bottom of the machine. Kagome smiles and takes the can out.
"Now for your snack." Mrs. Inoue said as they get in front of the snack machine. Making sure her mother doesn't get the wrong idea for what she eats, she points to the package. "Skittles." She tells her teacher as she gives the remaining change for it. Mrs. Inoue does the same and gets the package out for Kagome. Kagome gets the package. "Okay. I'm ready to head back." She looks up to the teacher. Mrs. Inoue smiles back as they return to the classroom.
Not long ago after the students left to go home, Inuyasha decides to stay behind. Just to be on the safe side so that Kagome wouldn't get hurt. He knows it's against the rules not to stay after school, unless you have a program of some sort. So far he hasn't been caught as of yet. But he always makes sure that he doesn't get spotted by the faculty. His spot to stay low is in the boys' restroom closes to the classroom Kagome's staying. Even in his human disguise, he can't stand the odor coming from the area. "Ugh, I better come up with a different plan than being in here." He said to himself. He peaks outside to see Kagome and Mrs. Inoue coming back from the cafeteria. He spots her smiling back, along with the can of Hawaiian punch and a bag of skittles. 'Well at least she's giving it a try.' He thought to himself in relief. But who knows if that's just the very start of this idea. That won't stop Inuyasha from his duty from keeping an eye on Kagome. Little does he know that he's not the only one with that purpose.
