Jace:

It had been three days since the battle for the institute, and he and the others were under something that resembled house arrest. Except that it was called Institute arrest, and it was under the personal supervision of Jocelyn, with Luke backing her every step of the way. Of course Henry and Charlotte were livid, but apparently they were more used to the Shadowhunters under their watch doing stupid things.

Since Jocelyn was the one dishing out the groundings, as the mundanes liked to call it, they weren't even going to try and talk her out of it. Apparently they thought that it was going to bring some sense into them.

Yeah right.

They were all in the pool house, trying to find something inventive to pass the time as they served their indefinite sentence of hell. So naturally, Izzy was sitting in a pool chair, soaking in the sun's rays while Simon sat beside her and tried to not be obvious about gawking.

Alec was sitting on the side of the pool with Magnus, who was probably too afraid of losing his glitter to get in the water. He was swimming, though, along with Jon and Clary.

Jordan and Maia weren't around, regrettably, because they were in the mundane realm, getting an ultrasound for her baby. She was far enough along to find out what kind of gender it was. The thought made Jace smile slightly, thought he would never openly admit to smiling about something as unmanly as a baby.

"What's got you so happy?" Clary asked him as she placed her small hand on his shoulder.

Jace smiled over at her, and shook his head, "Nothing really."

"That isn't a nothing really kind of smile," she informed him.

He turned and looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "Is it illegal to smile around my beautiful girlfriend?"

"Considering the fact that her brother is in the pool, and you're both technically half naked," Jon said from a few feet away. "Yes!"

Jace smirked, and pulled Clary in front of him, and turned so that she was in between him and her brother. "You wouldn't do anything with her in between us, would you?"

"Chivalry is dead," Clary announced dryly, earning a laugh from the people outside of the pool.

Jace leaned his face forward and muttered, "I'll show you proper chivalry later."

He felt her shiver slightly, and smirked. All the way until Jon snapped, "Really, man? I enjoy not wanting to lose my breakfast every time I look at the two of you!"

He could almost feel Clary roll her eyes, and bit back a smirk of his own as he released Jon's sister and backed away. "Fine," he relented. "Happy?"

"Not really," Jon admitted. "I really don't enjoy being grounded, if you wanted to know the truth."

"None of us do," Alec said gravely. "The only one here that isn't technically grounded, because he's actually older than any of the people here, is Magnus."

"I might as well be," Magnus shrugged. "All the interesting people are."

"Speaking of interesting people," Jace muttered. "Where are Will, Jem, and Tessa?"

"Keeping a lookout in the hallway by the conference room," Simon said, finally managing to tear his eyes off Isabelle for over five seconds as he spoke. "The trials are today, remember? They volunteered to harass Henry for news as soon as they were over."

The thought of the trials sucked any ounce of fun that Jace had been having out of the air. He would have been okay if Valentine had been the only one being persecuted, but Sebastian was as well. He may not have been a very big fan of the jackass, but Clary had been, and he didn't like his girlfriend being distraught over anything.

Clary must have sensed his mood change, because she turned around, and swam back over to him. She placed her hands on either of his shoulders and said, "Jon, fair warning, I'm about to kiss Jace; you might want to look away."

Of course, as soon as her lips moved against his, he forgot about his problems…hell, he was pretty sure that he forgot his own name at one point or another. It didn't really matter, though. He wrapped his arms around her, and supported her while he spun them both around in the water. He was able to ignore the cat-calling and the wolf-whistling, flipping the people out of the pool off without even looking.

Clary:

"What do you mean you don't believe in capital punishment?" Jon's voice was somewhere between a hiss and a growl. Clary had no idea that anyone, much less her harmless brother, could sound like that. They were sitting in their parents' bedroom, discussing the court case, and what they were all going to do next.

"I mean that no one, including Valentine or Sebastian will receive an execution," Luke said, his voice was strained and obviously tired.

"Then what will they receive?" Clary asked, tiredly.

"They're going to be shipped off to the highest maximum security prison in the country," her mother explained patiently. "Magnus' father runs it, and I promise you, no one is going to get out under his watch."

"You sound pretty sure about that," Jon observed suspiciously. "What happened last time?"

"A bribed guard," Jocelyn said, patting Jon's hand soothingly. "Calm down, son. Valentine is being shipped there today, along with Sebastian, where they will both receive medical treatments inside of the prison."

"So," Clary said slowly, "everything's over, right?"

Jocelyn and Luke looked at each other, and then back at her and Jon. "I'm lifting your grounding, under the condition that you never do something that stupid again."

Clary and Jon looked at each other, and she knew that they were lying when they said, "Deal," at the same time. The sad thing was, she was pretty sure that her mother knew that they were lying too.

"Alright," Jocelyn said, patting Clary's back, "you two should go ahead and get to bed; we're leaving to go to the mundane realm tomorrow, as planned."

She and Jon nodded. They both pushed themselves off the plush mattress and made their way to the door. She took one last look inside, but looked at Luke instead of her mother. She may not look like him, but that was her dad. She smiled at him, before she shut the door.

Jace was waiting outside of her room for her, his hands in his pockets, and that heart-stopping smile on his face. "Can I help you?" Clary questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"Told you that I was going to show you proper chivalry later," Jace informed her, "and this happens to be later."

Clary smirked and walked over to him, looping her arms easily around her neck as she murmured, "How do you propose to do that?"

"I figured I'd tuck you into bed," he informed her, the corners of his lips twitching.

Clary had a feeling that he had a lot more than tucking her into a bed planned. She got the strangest sense of Déjà vu as she leaned in and kissed him chastely. She pushed herself up slightly, so that she was standing on her tippy toes, and whispered, "When hell freezes over," softly in his ear, before she backed up, and walked into her room, closing the door in his face.

She smiled at the thought of the probably dumbfounded expression that he had on his face, and felt a rush of warmth at the thought of it. That was how she knew that she was falling for him, she was even fond of his stupid expressions.

Well…this is it! Last official chapter, other than the epilogue! I'm actually really sad to see this story go. Of course that could be some left over emotions from finishing Allegiant…those who have read, know what I am going through at the moment… *sniffle* Okay! Nerd moment over! The epilogue shall be up soon!

Daire123: I am sorry for Valentine's lack of death, lol. The disappointment must be terrible. I hope the thought of him rotting away with only Magnus' father for company brings you comfort.

tati1327: I'll seriously think about rewriting the other story over again. You never know! I might just have it out soon ;)

Arcoirizada: I'm glad that that you find my story fabulous, lol and great job at finding the words to describe it!
