Hi guys! I've been tired lately, but here's the next chapter! Hope you enjoy! :-)
Clover-
Clover stood in front of the boutique, feeling slightly guilty as she window shopped. Alex was trying fruitlessly to fill Sam's role, and for some reason, it irked Clover beyond comparison.
"Alex! Just stop! Sam's gone, and nothing's going to change that! So stop trying to fill her place, because she doesn't have one anymore!" The words played back through her head, after she had cruelly left Alex in the hotel room Jerry had gotten them.
Clover's nose crinkled as she saw the sandals. The ones that were out of style. The ones that Sam had worn anyways, them being her lucky shoes until Clover burned them. She remembered Sam's heartbroken look, her angry glare, and her easy acceptation of Clover's apology. So how had things went so very wrong this time?
"Stop!" She screeched in her head, holding it in her hands. Sam had walked out on her, and Blaine had left her, and it wasn't her fault for any of this. She made this her mantra as she walked away from the shoe store, instead heading towards the bakery down the street.
Sam-
She could only hope that this wasn't all a trick. She swam almost behind him, using the wake that he left in the water to require less of her own effort. She needed to be ready for anything, and couldn't let the swim take everything from her.
Sam saw him stop, and raise his hand. She stopped, following his new path to under the large submarine. He raised a gloved hand to a panel, and in moments, she was following up a ladder behind him.
"Now." His voice was almost too low for her to hear him, but she did, pressing on the ring gently. She could hear the yells, and for a moment thought that he had betrayed her, when she saw him begin moving down the metal corridor like there was nothing to worry about.
She almost sighed in relief, instead pulling on her catsuit, and her detector glasses. She followed after him quickly, worried about a time constraint. He hadn't told her when the ring would blow, and what if she was still wearing it when it happened?
"You!" She startled, almost gasping, when she realized the comment wasn't directed towards her.
"Us. We're here to take you down."
"I don't understand, his equipment-"
"Is spotty. You really should have used a more updated computer. I'm betting that's Terrance's fault, right Clover?"
"Totes affirmative Sam. Let's take these guys down."
"Yaaaa!" Sam heard Alex's battle cry, and peeked around the corner, wanting desperately for her friends to be standing there. But when she looked at the faint light on her ring, and saw the carbon copy of herself, looking determined to beat Terrance down, she turned away.
She refused to meet Scam's gaze as they hurried past the hall where the confrontation was taking place. His technology was too good. Too genius.
"Sam!" He hissed, pulling her into a room. She almost fought against his grip, but he let go of her wrist, going towards the cabinets. That was when Sam realized that they were in the control room.
Seeing that he was already fishing files out, she went to the other cabinet, looking for anything of importance. Breaking the lock with her laser lipstick, she found it strange how silent Scam was, and had to force her mind back to the mission several times.
He was looking at the control panel when she found it.
"I've got it!" He turned, his neck making a crack noise at the sudden movement. He took it from her hands, looking at the info quickly, before handing it back to a silently seething Sam.
"Take the ring off, and let's go. We have one minute until this place blows." He said, opening the door and starting to run. She took it off gently, hearing a click, before setting it down and following behind, fast and silent in her cat suit.
Sam had finally realized the mechanism of the ring. Scam had geniusly set it up to recognize pressure the way a pressure plate would, reacting when the pressure was removed. But she knew this was far more complicated, and it strengthened her resolve to run faster.
They were about to jump out of the exit, when she heard the voices.
"Dropped the bomb Sam! Now what?!"
"We go!" She heard the holograms 'exit' and felt Scam pull her arm. Cold water began to fill her lungs, until she felt something forced around her face, and she felt the water move with cosmic speed and heat. And then, silence.
Alex-
Alex sighed, holding her head in her hands as she sat in the hotel room. She had known deep inside that this was inevitable, Clover and Sam being so different, with their different aspirations and goals. But she had vainly hoped that she would be enough to keep their friendship glued together.
She didn't know what she was doing anymore. She had no clue how to catch this guy, and how to get Clover on track. "Be Sam." She thought. "Be Sam without being Sam." Not a simple concept, but she had plenty of time before Clover would return.
What did you think? The next chapter should be out soon... Review! :-)
