Chapter 25

Sophie's POV

To my horror the memories of mine and Nick's time together filled the screen. The room was silent as they all made the connection.

I was a lot younger in the photos, we both were. My hair was shorter and my skin had a sun kissed glow to it. We were at the beach, a rare day we had taken for ourselves. I was sporting a very revealing white bikini and Nick was wearing his board shorts, normal attire for the LA beach scene.

I was laid out on a towel soaking up the sun's rays waiting for Nick to return. It was Sunday, the sky was blue, the air warm and we were finally getting somewhere with the case.

"Hey Beautiful" I Heard Nick greet dropping down onto the towel next to me, water droplets clinging to his olive skin.

"Hey … you have a good swim?" I asked propping myself up onto my elbows taking in his appearance. He nodded and lent over to kiss me. I treasured these moments, we'd been undercover for nearly a year now and the constant paranoia was starting to become draining but when we were alone we could be ourselves again, we could finally relax.

"You want to take a walk up the beach?"

Two hours later we were sitting at the water's edge watching the waves crashing in. Nick had his arms wrapped around me kissing my neck. I grabbed the camera out of my bag wanting to capture this moment.

"Say cheese" I smiled. I snapped a few photos before Nick got bored and started to kiss me again.

"I wanted to ask you something" He whispered into my ear, out of nowhere a small ring box appeared. "It's not much" he stated. I opened it revealing a diamond ring, it was a simple design but it was stunning. "Marry me" he whispered. I turned in his arms and kissed him we stayed like that for a long time before Nick pulled away. "Is that a yes?" He chuckled tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Yes" I smiled. I grabbed the camera once again.

I couldn't believe he had kept these photos all this time. My chest was hurting, all the painful memories I'd worked so hard to forget came flooding back, I could feel the tears stinging my eyes.

"Kid take them down" Tony ordered. They disappeared from the screen. I was still trying to catch my breath, I could feel my hands shaking. Keen looked unfazed.

"Open the next one" He ordered. I saw Scott look at me conflicted. "Now" Keen said. I cleared my throat.

"We won't get anything from these" I stated my voice stronger than I thought it would be.

"Mr Ross I gave you an order I suggest you carry it out" Keen ignored me and kept his focus on Scott.

"I think we've seen enough" Rossi interjected but it was too late Scott had already opened the file. The video started playing out on the screen, I heard my voice fill the small room and I felt sick to my stomach.

"So it's official" I smile at the camera holding up my left hand showing off the wedding band. "We're married"

With that I moved across the room and yanked the wire from the laptop. The screen went dark.

"We're done" I said through gritted teeth. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Spencer exiting the meeting room. Acting on pure instinct I followed him, I needed to explain.

Spencer bypassed the elevators and headed for the stairs. I followed, jogging to close the gap. He'd only made it up one flight when I caught up to him.

"Spencer wait" I said a little breathless.

"Were you ever going to tell me?" He asked turning to face me. I paused.

"I … I don't know" I admitted. He dropped his gaze to the floor.

"How could you keep something like that from me?" I didn't know how to answer, my head was spinning and it was all too much to take in at once.

"What was I supposed to say Spence … oh by the way I was married once … it's not exactly something you bring up on the first date" there was an edge to my voice I wasn't proud of, but couldn't he see that I couldn't cope with this right now.

"You had plenty of opportunities to tell me" he stated. "What else have you kept from me?" He asked and I panicked.

"Now isn't the time" I whispered trying to keep the tears at bay. Spencer sighed and shook his head.

"Why don't you trust me?"

"It's not about trust" I answered.

"Yes it is" he stated and I snapped.

"You're one to talk about trust … I've seen the marks on your arms Spencer I'm not stupid … Were you ever going to tell me about that?" I lashed out, but as the words left my mouth and I saw the pain and anger on Spencer's face I instantly regretted it. He shook his head and I knew I'd gone too far. Spencer turned on the balls of his feet and continued up the stairs leaving me standing here alone.

I let my body slip down the concrete wall and onto the floor, the tears silently making their way down my cheeks as I sat and cried.
