YO! Sorry this is quite late... Been really busy today what with FAFSA and my eighteenth birthday coming in close... Anyways... Here I am! :) Also, I've found a new show to watch... It's old. It's called Chuck starring Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski. You should watch it! Trust me, the characters' personalities are very close to how I would picture Annabeth and Percy if they were spies.
So, I wanted to get into the drama but because I looked over the reviews, I saw that I got quite a few requests for a Valentine's Day chapter so... I'm meeting you guys halfway :) This is a two-part chapter. I'll give you guys the number at the bottom.
myperfectionismyimperfection: Why wouldn't I pair Rachel and Octavian together? And... Maybe... Even though he's the bad guy, Mark is still an OC and therefore, my little baby... ;) We'll see how this goes.
WiseGirl456 (Guest): Hmmm... I've gotten that last suggestion quite a number of times so its definitely in the old noggin, swimming with the other ideas. I do have another thing I'm contemplating as well but most likely, both of them would happen.
God (Guest): Hmm... That's interesting... Definitely a challenge since I'd have to tap into my inner child. We'll see. We will see... I like it though.
.9231: Octavian is a good guy. And Mark... As I said before... We'll see... As much as I hate him, I do love him as well because he's my first OC and I'm very proud of his development.
OreoLover (Guest): O.O" I totally had how I wanted the whole Mark thing to go down but when I read that last, well, second to last sentence, I completely rethought it. I'm not sure yet, but I probably won't do brother... Maybe cousin or something...
JayceLover (Guest): How do you hate drama?! I love the stuff! The pull to the heart strings get me EVERYTIME. It's like my drug. And yeah, it's perfect but who wants to read a story with no conflict? And I know you love me... Beh. I mean, we are family right? ;)
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Percy Jackson and the Olympians... Obviously since I am in no way, shape, or form Rick Riordan.
Weeks have passed and Rachel was more accepted into the "family." It got to the point where Annabeth could trust the redhead with watching Anthony alone while both her and Percy went to work or on the occasional date. Rachel didn't mind either. She enjoyed spending time with the three year old. And, whenever Annabeth's assistant, Gwen, called in sick, Rachel took her place.
Now, Percy and Annabeth were heading out as it was Valentine's day and Rachel gave them a pass to go out and enjoy themselves. "Seriously," she said. "You two go out and enjoy yourselves! I really don't mind staying here with Anthony."
"What about Octavian?" Annabeth asked. Since Rachel had been coming to Annabeth's office more often, she was able to spend time with the blonde intern and the two have gone on a few dates, although they have yet to call anything serious.
"We're technically not together yet and he told me he was busy sketching up a building to submit to Malcolm."
The blonde haired woman nodded in understanding. "If you say so," she said.
"Come on, Wise Girl. Let's go," Percy urged. He was wearing dark jeans, a white button down dress shirt with a dark blue tie tucked into his collar, and a black suit jacket.
"OK. Bye Sweetie." Anthony ran up to his mom and gave her a huge hug. "Be good for Rachel OK?"
"Yes, Mommy," Anthony smiled. "Have fun!"
With that, Percy lead his girlfriend out to the curb and opened the door of his car for her. Once she was seated inside, the black haired man shut the door and made his way around the front to his side and settled himself into the seat. He pressed on the brakes and the start button causing the blue Benz to roar to life. "Where are we going?" Annabeth asked.
"You'll see. I have everything planned."
"You do?" The grey eyed woman raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend who returned the gesture with a wink before peeling off the curb and began a drive up north. As they crossed the Manhattan Bridge, Lower Manhattan, and went up West Street, Annabeth began to suspect where her black haired boyfriend was taking her but those thoughts quickly dissipated when he exited and turned onto 10th Avenue. He made a right on 10th Avenue 2 miles later onto W 56th Street and once more onto 9th Avenue. Driving about four hundred more feet, Percy pulled into a parking lot and shut his car off. He got out of his car and went around to open Annabeth's door. Taking Percy's hand, the blonde haired woman stepped out of the blue Mercedes-Benz and straightened out her blue chiffon dress that fell to her knees. Her silver gladiator sandals highlighting the embellishments that sat at the front of her waist right below the v-cut. She tightened her black leather jacket around her torso and looped her arm around her boyfriend's. Together, they walked to a self service booth where Percy paid for a parking ticket and walked the one block arm in arm to Bocca di Bacco. The green eyed boyfriend opened the large wooden door and gestured Annabeth in. She smiled at him and walked inside with Percy closely behind.
"Good evening, welcome to Bocca di Bacco," greeted the hostess.
"Hi, reservation for Percy Jackson."
"Of course. Right this way." The hostess grabbed two menus and led the couple to a table in the back corner where the two would have their privacy.
"Thank you," Percy smiled before pulling out a chair for Annabeth and sitting down himself. The hostess handed them both menus.
"Someone will be by to take your orders." She gave a slight nod and turned, walking back to her stand at the front of the restaurant. Percy had a chance to peruse the menu shortly before a tall blonde man came by with a notepad in one hand and a pen in the other.
"Hello, my name is Lucas and I will be your server this evening. Can I start you off with something to drink?" he asked.
"A bottle of your finest Merlot, Lucas," Percy said. The waiter nodded and went to fetch the bottle.
"Percy, this is so sweet," Annabeth praised, placing her menu on the table.
"Just for you," he replied, smiling.
Annabeth turned back to the menu. "I don't even know what to order."
"I suggest something earthy and creamy since I ordered Merlot." Annabeth blinked. She had no idea Percy knew anything about fine wine, or any wine for that matter. Even when she thought she finally had him figured out once more, he went and surprised her again. She wasn't sure what to think of her boyfriend anymore. Sure she knew he was more matured than he was three years ago, but to have a complete transformation? Unthinkable. She guessed that it wasn't a complete transformation since her boyfriend still had the mischievous glint in his eye and the childlike behavior that Annabeth both found endearing yet terribly annoying at times. Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the waiter returning with a bottle sitting in an ice bucket. Setting the pale down on the table, he lifted the bottle.
"Le Due Terre circa 2004," he announced. Annabeth watched as her black haired boyfriend inspected the bottle.
"That's great!" he clapped. "Thank you." The waiter bowed and uncorked the bottle, pouring its contents into the two wine glasses in front of them. After replacing the bottle into the ice bucket, he bowed once more and left.
"I think, I'm going to go with the Cavatelli di Grano Arso," Annabeth said simply, placing her menu down on the table.
"Hmm… that's a good one." Percy nodded in approval and waved over a waiter. The same blonde guy that came before made his way through the tables back to their table.
"We're ready to order," Percy stated.
"Alright," Lucas smiled pulling out his pad and pen. "What will it be for this evening?"
"For our Antipasti, we'll be having the Calamari Fritti and the Involtini di Melanzane E Ricotta. As for our main entree, the lady will be having the Cavatelli di Grano Arso and I will be having the Spaghetti Amatriciana Sbagliata. Also, can I get a Zuppa di Fave? Actually, make that two. That will be all, Thank you." Percy handed the waiter his menu and took a light sip of his wine. Lucas also grabbed Annabeth's menu.
Annabeth was once again shocked at Percy. He placed that order with a perfect Italian accent as if he were really from Italy and not from New York. She stared at him with her mouth agape. "How…?" she trailed. Percy simply shrugged and gave her one of his lop-sided smiles that made Annabeth's heart melt. They chatted for a little while about their jobs. Annabeth was currently waiting for the approval from Mr. Shackleford for her building design and Percy was making great progress with the seals and they have taken plenty of useful information, through observations, that could help the Hawaiian Monk Seals survive on their own in the wild. As they talked, Lucas returned and set their dishes onto the table in front of them, gave a short bow, and turned away to accommodate his other tables.
Halfway through their meal, Annabeth let out a soft moan. "Mmmm. This is delicious," she praised. Percy smiled at her again and took another bite of his pasta
"Percy?" Annabeth said as she pulled her attention away from her meal.
"Hmm?"
"I was thinking..." she started. "Maybe... it was time that you move in with us. Officially."
Percy raised an eyebrow toward his blonde girlfriend. "Really?"
"Yeah, I mean, you already do practically live with us so, why not make it official? And that way, Rachel can move into your old apartment."
"And you're sure that this isn't just a way to get Rachel out of the house?"
"No! I love Rachel, I never thought that I would say that but it's true!" Percy chuckled at her getting flustered. "I just thought, we could, you know, take another step to rebuilding our family."
"OK, yeah, yeah, I'll move in with you guys. I'm sure it won't be so bad." Annabeth shot him a look which he returned with a smug smile.
"Whatever, lover boy."
At the end of dinner, the couple retreated to the car and Percy drove the short way to the southern entrance of Central Park where he parked his car along the curb and paid the meter. "What are we doing here, Seaweed Brain?" Annabeth asked, hugging her body.
"Just to take a walk, Wise Girl," was his reply. The black haired man wrapped an arm around his girlfriend's shoulders and pressed his lips to the top of her head. For the most part, the couple walked in silence for the most part which allowed Annabeth to really reflect on her life thus far.
Even though she had made nice with Rachel and had gotten back together with Percy, Annabeth still didn't know how it happened. Sure she was there and she experienced everything, but it had flown at her so fast that she never really had time to process any of it. Just a few months ago, Annabeth never would've pictured herself here. In fact, a few months ago, if someone suggested this scenario, she would've laughed in their face, walked away, come back, and laugh in their face again. And yet, here she was. Annabeth was glad that she gave Percy a second chance because he really proved to her that he had, not so much changed, but matured. It was refreshing. Since Annabeth had known Percy since they were little kids, she practically knew everything about him. Perhaps, she thought. Our separation was meant to happen so that we could grown on our own and see what life would be like without the other. She medidated on that thought for quite sometime before the little voice at the back of her mind answered.
Even if that was the whole reason for why you two separated, it said. Why couldn't it happen before you two were married and expecting a child.
Annabeth paused before answering. Maybe we needed a way to come back to the other. Thinking about it further, Annabeth began to believe that that's why fate waited for them to be expecting a child. If it weren't for Anthony, Percy and Annabeth's run in at the supermarket would have just been another run in with an ex. Percy never would have come searching for her and Annabeth and even if he did, there would be absolutely no reason for them to get back together. If they had separated before they got married, Annabeth was sure that their lives would've turned out completely different and that they probably would've found and married other people and never talked to the other again. She thought that maybe she shouldn't be having this moment right now while she was on her date with Percy but she couldn't find a better time. They were both perfectly content with walking in silence and Annabeth bet everything that Percy was probably having similar thoughts as well. She looked up at her boyfriend just as he turned to her and they both smiled at each other before they turned their heads back to the path, pulling the other closer to block out the cold.
Percy hoped that Annabeth was enjoying herself. He'd been planning this date for the last two weeks and now, everything he'd been working for is finally unfolding. He spent his free time at work studying everything there was to know about the different types of wine and the best types of food that they went with. He even called up Nico to teach him basic Italian phrases so that he could pronounce the food on the menu and not look like a complete fool. His hand brushed against his pocket and he felt the velvet box hard against the side of his leg. He hoped that Annabeth liked it. He spent an entire day at Jared looking for the perfect piece to give. "Hey, follow me," Percy said. He untangled himself from Annabeth and took her hand, leading her off the path and into the shrubbery. Percy hoped that Luke had gotten everything ready.
"Percy, where are we going?" Annabeth asked as she was dragged through the trees and bushes.
"Don't worry about it," Percy answered which wasn't very assuring. Soon, they broke through the foliage and emerged into a small clearing that looked like a new world. Honestly, Annabeth thought the scene before her was something that only came out in books or movies but the trees were so high and thick that it blocked out the buildings and the sound of the city around them. The light from the moon shone down onto a small pond that had lily pads floating around the edge. "Like it?" Percy appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, with a classic picnic basket in his hand. He set the bag down, unfolded the blanket, laid it out on the ground, and took a seat, motioning for Annabeth to sit with him. The grey eyed woman sat down by him but he repositioned them so he could sit behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"How did you find this place?"
"I took a walk one day maybe a week after our divorce and decided that I wanted to escape so I just walked into the trees and stumbled across this little paradise. You're the only other person that I've brought here, you know, except Luke but I didn't really bring him here, I told him how to get here so that he could drop this basket off. I put it together though. I just didn't want it sitting out here for forever." Annabeth chuckled.
"It's beautiful," she smiled.
"Yeah, but it's not the most beautiful thing." Annabeth flushed and her face went scarlet. Percy reached out and opened the picnic basket, pulling out a container that held strawberries and another that had chocolate dip.
"Chocolate covered strawberries?" The blonde haired woman raised an eyebrow in question.
"Hey, these things are a must on Valentine's Day," Percy protested.
"We've never had chocolate strawberries before," Annabeth argued.
"Yeah… well… I didn't know about the rules of Valentine's Day before."
"And where did you get these 'rules' of yours?"
"Uhh… online?"
"Nice."
"Don't hate! I just wanted this night to be perfect."
"Seaweed Brain, you don't need an expensive dinner or a moonlit picnic for it to be perfect. As long as we're together, I'm fine." She turned her head and smiled at him. He placed a light kiss on her lips, returned the smile, and focused back on the two containers. He picked up a strawberry and dipped it in the chocolate. Lifting it up, he held it up to Annabeth's face and let her take a bite. "Mmmm," she hummed. "I have to admit. These are really good. I'm glad you added the strawberries."
"See?" The two laughed and enjoyed the night drinking apple cider and finishing off the strawberries. Once all of the strawberries were gone, Annabeth cuddled further into her boyfriend and together, they just sat there and enjoyed the night.
"I had fun," Annabeth said.
"I'm glad."
"Tell me, was this a last minute thing?"
"No," Percy chuckled. "Believe it or not, Wise Girl, but I am capable of planning things out."
"How long then?" She twisted her torso so she could look into her boyfriend's eyes.
"How long have I have this planned?" Annabeth nodded. "About two weeks."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"And since when have you known about what wine goes best with what food?"
"About two weeks." Annabeth laughed a whole hearted laugh.
"What about the Italian?"
"See, I have this cousin who apparently speaks perfect Italian. It's probably in my blood, you know, hidden talents and such" Annabeth shot him a look. "Fine, you caught me. Nico gave me a quick tutorial…" Percy replied sheepishly. His blonde haired girlfriend shook her head in amusement before settling back into his chest. A pleasant moment of silence settled among them. Percy figured that it was about time. He unwrapped his arms from Annabeth's waist, causing her to turn back and look at him. "Close your eyes," he said. Annabeth raised an eyebrow in question but acquiesced. The black haired man pulled out the velvet box and held it out in front of him and Annabeth. "Open," he whispered.
The grey eyed woman opened her eyes to see a dark colored velvet box. She gasped and turned once more to look at her boyfriend. He opened the box, revealing a diamond heart necklace. "Oh my God," she breathed the moment she laid her eyes on the sterling silver necklace. The green eyed man chuckled and pulled the necklace out. Moving her hair to the side, Percy unclasped the necklace and set it down around her neck. "It's beautiful, Percy."
"Happy Valentine's Day, Wise Girl."
"Happy Valentine's Day, Seaweed Brain."
The couple leaned in for a kiss. Their lips brushed against the other when Annabeth's phone went off.
