Hey guys! Sorry for not updating but here's another chapter. I do want to rant a little though. SPOILERS FOR INSURGENT MOVIE: Insurgent was really good but they left out some parts that they should've put in the movie. For example; Tris on peace serum (That would've been hilarious) and when Tobias was like "I'll be your family now." (I was looking forward to that). Also when Tobias beats up Marcus and overcomes that fear but it's replaced with the fear of Tris dying; that played a kind of big part in the book. Any thoughts? Anyways, here's the next chapter!

Recap:

So far on The Kidnapping Tris has been kidnapped by David and is being used to experiment on. A year later Tobias still hasn't stopped looking for Tris. He now shares an apartment with his mother Evelyn. The faction system is still in place. Cara gets a letter from David. They figure out that Tris is being held captive by David in the Amity. Tris gets a letter from Amy saying that she kidnapped Christina. They are supposed to meet Amy at the Hancock building, if they want to see Christina again. Tobias and Tris go to the Hancock building to get Christina. Christina gets rescued. Tris punches Amy. Evelyn shoots Tobias and Tris intervenes so the bullet only hits his arm instead of his heart. Tobias zip lines to get off of the Hancock building. Amy and Evelyn created a serum that when your injected, they can control everything you do and say. Evelyn injects Tobias but since he's part Divergent it doesn't work but he plays along acting like it did. Cara, Zeke, Shauna and Christina were injected. Tris, Caleb and Matthew go looking for them. They end up in The Fringe, where Evelyn used to live. Tris, Caleb and Matthew meet a guy named James who wants to help them. They also meet a guy named Adam who helps them. James offers them a place to stay so that they can rest. Tris wants to sacrifice herself but Caleb won't let her. Tobias, Cara, Christina, Zeke and Shauna are put under their fear landscapes. Tris, Caleb and Matthew sneak into Evelyn's apartment. Tris holds a knife to Evelyn's throat and Amy is held at gunpoint by Caleb. Amy is shot in the foot and Matthew shoots Evelyn. Tobias, Zeke, Christina, Shauna and Cara are freed. Tris throws a knife at Amy and hits her in the chest. She shoots Tris in the leg. They escape Evelyn's apartment. They get back to Chicago and back to Dauntless. There is something wrong with Tris's leg. Tobias takes Tris to the infirmary where she's put in surgery. They find out that she's in a coma and she has a 45% chance of never waking up. She was taken to the Erudite because they have better equipment. Tris wakes up from her Coma a day later. Her 'Doctor' basically began to rape Tris but Tobias came to the rescue. Tris was released from the hospital and everyone played candor or Dauntless. Tris and Tobias become the initiate instructors for the transfers. They think that Liz (Abnegation transfer) and Mason (Erudite transfer) are Divergent.

Chapter 24:

Tris's POV

"These are your rankings," I say revealing the board.

1.) Liz

2.) Mason

3.) Nick

4.) Hunter

5.) Sarah

6.) Emily

7.) Ethan

8.) Chloe

9.) Nicole

10.)Lindsey

11.) Cory

I hear a couple of groans and whoops. "Those of you that are below the line at the end of stage one will be cut. Don't get too excited. Next week we start fighting. For many of you, that could mean that you go down in the ranking and for others you go up," I say in my instructor voice. "But, for now you're going to keep practicing with the guns and knives. You know what to do so get going."

I turn towards Tobias and see that he's already looking at me. I smile at him. It's the most PDA that I can show with the initiates around. I focus my attention on Liz and Mason instead. They're doing very well at the knife throwing, hitting the bullseye 8 out of 10 times.

The training session goes by in a blur. The initiates are getting better by the day but are still not up to Dauntless standards. I'm sitting in the Cafeteria when someone starts shouting.

"What's your trick? How are you so good?" A guy shouts. He has black hair, a medium build and is sort of tall. Nick.

I look over and see that he's shouting at Liz. I become angry for some reason. She stands her ground but doesn't say a word.

"You're a pathetic stiff," he mutters before walking away.

Tobias notices my anger and squeezes my hand. I look over at him and say, "I'm okay." I find it hard to believe myself when I say that.

I finish my lunch and leave the cafeteria without a word. I walk not knowing where I'm going, just letting my legs carry me somewhere. I end up in the training room. I find a punching bag and start punching it with all of my force. The anger inside of me is boiling. He is a bully. He's just like Peter in a way.

I don't even hear the door open when Tobias walks in. One minute I'm punching the orange bag with all of my force and the next Tobias is standing next to me.

"Are you okay?" He asks.

"Yeah...I just...wanted to...hit...something," I say in between punches.

"Wow. What did that punching bag ever do to you?" He says jokingly.

I smile slightly at his comment and quit my assault on the bag. My knuckles are red and sore and I frown a little bit at the pain. I wipe the sweat from my forehead.

"How long have I been here?"

"About 5 hours. Go get showered. I have a surprise for you," Tobias says, smirking.

5 hours?! It only felt like 30 minutes. I agree and head off to our apartment. What could the surprise possibly be? How was I there for five hours?

About 20 minutes later, I'm showered and dressed in my Dauntless clothes. I find Tobias waiting on the couch, a smirk still plastered on his face.

"Ready," I say.

He gets up and puts a blindfold over my eyes.

"Really?" I ask sarcastically.

"Yup. Now come on," he says leading me through the door and out of Dauntless. We walk and walk for what feels like forever. I almost feel vulnerable with this blindfold over my eyes. He stops abruptly and let's go of my hand. I start to panic.

The blindfold is taken off of my face. We're at the Navy Pier. The moon is reflecting off of the water, making it shimmer. A blanket is spread out on the ground and a picnic basket sitting in the middle. A date.

A grin is plastered on my face when I say, "Thank you."

He smiles and sits down on the checkered blanket. I do the same, crossing my legs in front of me. I look around and see the ferris wheel in the distance.

"I figured that you probably worked up an appetite when you were assaulting the punching bags," he says with a chuckle.

I nod, a grin still evident on my face and open up the basket to find Dauntless cake and others of my favorite foods. This is perfect. We dig into the delicious food and I savor every bite.

"So a nice moonlit romantic dinner at the Navy Pier. What's up?" I ask curiously.

"What? I can't take my girlfriend on a date?" he asks chuckling.

I love the way he says girlfriend. I am his and he is mine. I blush at his comment. "When do you think we should do the war games?" I say changing the subject.

"Probably a couple weeks after the fighting starts," he sighs.

I scoot closer to him, so that our bodies are almost touching and say, "Thank you Tobias. This was perfect."

He smiles at my comment and leans in, closing the distance between our lips. The kiss isn't hungry or needy but passionate and sweet. I wrap my arms around his neck and he tangles his hands into my hair. I can feel the electricity coursing through my veins that I get whenever I'm with him. With every second that passes by, the kiss deepens. Only because I need air, I pull back a few centimeters, resting my forehead on his.

"Now it's perfect," he whispers, smiling.

I laugh and pull back all the way. I look at my watch and see that it's 8:30. We've been here for about two hours. I groan and say, "We should get back before someone knows that we're missing."

"Yeah, we should, but we don't have to," he says, winking.

I begin to laugh again and playful punch him on the shoulder. I can't remember the last time that I had laughed this much. Everything in my life has been so complicated, I haven't had time for fun. I peck Tobias on the lips once more and stand up. He groans but gets up to. He interlaces our hands together and we make our way back home, stealing kisses along the way.

Time Lapse

The next day:

I wake up to the spot on the bed beside me empty. I feel something on my forehead and realize that it's a note.

Tris,

I had to run a few errands. I'll be back later.

-4

That's odd. I get up and get ready for the day. Tobias may not be here but I still have to train initiates today. I'm showered and out the door within 15 minutes.

Tobias's POV:

I wake up and see that Tris is still fast asleep. I decide to let her sleep and get up silently. I walk into the living room and see a paper lying in front of the door. I curiously walk over and pick up the piece of paper.

Son,

Meet me at train. 5th one back. 7 o'clock

That's odd. Is Marcus back? Evelyn? It couldn't be her. She's supposed to be dead. Something in the back of my head tells me that she's alive though.

I find a sticky note and scribble a small message for Tris. Hopefully she won't be too mad at me. I stick the note on her forehead and walk out of the room. I have ten minutes to get to the train. I hurry out of the Dauntless building and to the train tracks.

I feel the vibrations on the ground and know that it's close. Headlights come into view and then the train itself. I count the cars as they pass. 1, 2, 3. The fifth car passes in front of me and I start to run. I grab the handle and swing myself in.

I look around and there she is. Evelyn is standing in front of me, a small smile on her lips. My heartbeat quickens.

"Mother," I whisper.

Her smile widens a bit and she says, "It's me."

She has a bandage across her chest but she looks just like she did a couple weeks ago. She's alive. My joy is suddenly replaced with anger.

Noticing my change in demeanor , she says, "Tobias-"

"You don't get to call me that," I growl.

"Four," she says hesitantly. "I'm not here to cause anymore damage. I want your forgiveness."

"Forgiveness? Seriously. After what you did to us, you expect me to forgive you?" I say, shocked.

"Please. What I did was wrong. I'll do whatever it takes. I can be useful. I know what Amy's planning," she says pleadingly.

"Nothing you do will make me forgive you. I trusted you and you betrayed me," I say, venom dripping from my voice.

She has a look of pure hurt on her face. "Fine. Have it the hard way. Just remember when your girlfriend dies, you could've saved her." she says before jumping off of the moving train.

What does she mean by that? What's going on? Panic instantly fills my body. Tris. I need to get back to her. Now.

Time Lapse

I practically sprint into the Dauntless building. I burst into the training room but it's empty. Where is she? The need to find her is overpowering. I need to make sure that she's okay.

"Tobias?" A voice behind me asks.

I turn around and there she is. Tris is standing in front of me, a confused look on her face. She's safe. I swiftly walk the few steps to her and embrace her in a hug.

She pulls back first and with concern lacing her voice and asks, "Is everything okay?"

"Can we talk about it later?" I ask, not wanting to talk about it.

She nods her head, her face a mask of confusion.

Tris's POV:

During the whole training session, my body is filled with anxiety and dread from head to toe. What's bothering Tobias? Is he going to break up with me? Did something happen?

I can barely concentrate with all of those thoughts swirling around in my brain. By the end of training, everyone has learned the basic moves for fighting. I wait for everyone leave the room before I start asking questions. "What's wrong? Is everything okay?"

He sighs and then says, "Evelyn's alive."

I don't say anything for a minute. I'm left speechless. "She's really alive," I say, my voice barely above a whisper.

"That where I went this morning. I found a note...Amy's still alive and I think that she's planning on...killing...you," he says, looking at the ground.

"How do you know this?" I ask.

"Evelyn….wanted my forgiveness but I refused to give it to her. Before she walked away she said that Amy was planning something and then you...dying," he chokes out.

I'm frozen. Just when everything was returning to normal, this happens. He holds out his arms and I step into his embrace.

"I won't let anything happen to you. I promise," he whispers into my hair.

"You can't promise that," I point out.

"Yes I can," is all he says. "I'll do whatever it takes."

We stand there like that for awhile, neither of us moving or talking. We don't need to, we just need each other. That's all that matters. As long as we have each other, everything will be okay. This is just another obstacle in this crazy obstacle course and we'll get through it together.

So hopefully that chapter wasn't too depressing.
