All right. Moving on with this story. Here's where the human Lanterns try to stop Sinestro from terrorizing the citizens on Earth. But can they stop him, or has his power over fear gotten too strong? Let's find out.
The group of Lantern's had all made their way to New York City as planned, in order to stop Sinestro.
Elsa and Eddie were the first to arrive, after helping Elsa find her way there, and using his powers to open wormholes to travel.
They were above the city, looking down to it, seeing the citizens being terrorized by Sinestro's monster constructs.
"I can't believe he'd do this," Eddie said in disbelief while staring down to the terrorized citizens. "I trusted him. He turned against us, and gave into fear."
"I know it hurts, Eddie," Elsa came and put her hands on his face. "I don't like this either. I trusted him as much as I do you, and he betrayed both us and all the other members of the Corps."
"Don't worry about that. We'll stop him, if it's the last thing we do."
They looked to see Hal Jordan coming to them, and had his girlfriend Carol Ferris with him, wearing her Star Sapphire uniform.
"Your girlfriend's a Star Sapphire?" Eddie noticed Carol.
"Yep. It happened a little over 4 months ago, when me and my friends were dealing with a problem that threatened the entire galaxy."
"So what's the plan then, Hank?"
They looked up to see Guy Gardner, flying down towards them.
"What do you mean, what's the plan?" Hal replied.
"I thought you were usually the leader when it comes to these things. After all, you've had some insane ideas in the past, especially with the Anti-Monitor."
"Hey, you were the one who'd located where this was coming from. So shouldn't I be asking you that?" Hal responded.
"Oh, you wanna hear a plan? How about I think about how I'm gonna clobber you?!"
Hal and Guy both got in each other's faces.
Eddie then went towards them, grabbed them both, then slammed their heads together. "Knock it off!"
"Watch it, buddy," Guy said rubbing his head.
"Can we focus on the real problem here?" Eddie tried setting them straight. "We have enough problems without you bickering."
"He started it," Hal and Guy both said in unison.
"I don't care who started it. You both continue, and I'll finish it. Look, let's deal with Sinestro before worrying about anything else. Once we're done, and we've brought him to justice, you two can pulverize each other for all I care."
"So then how do we find him?"
Everyone looked back up, and John Stewart came down to join them.
"I've tried locating him with my scanner, but with him terrorizing all these people, it's on the fritz," Guy held out his scanner, which was beeping rapidly, for the fear in the people was out of control.
"Well, we may as well start, by getting rid of all these monsters, that way we have a better chance," Eddie suggested.
"How do we know that his idea may help," John spoke up. "He's no Green Lantern."
"Oh, so just because I'm not green, means I'm not a hero? Fine. If you've got a better idea, I'd love to here it."
"He's right, John," Guy chimed in. "When the Red Lantern's tried to send that fleet to Oa, it was his suggestion we go out and fight them off."
"If not from the help of the Blue Lantern's, we'd never have been able to do it. We can trust him," Hal spoke up.
"All right," John agreed. "So what's the plan?"
"Well, like I said, we'll have a better chance to find Sinestro, if we take down these constructs and save the citizens. We'll split into teams of two to cover more ground. Elsa, you're with me."
"Right," she agreed.
"Jordan, you and Carol."
"Great," Hal accepted.
"And, Guy. That leaves you and John."
"I can live with this. All right, we'll each divide up and take down these monster constructs, then meet back here. Teams, let's move out," Guy ordered, then the three teams all flew in different directions.
In one area, Eddie had faced one of the giant tarantula's.
He began by constructing 2 giant combat shotguns in both his hands, then opened fire on the giant spider, which screeched loudly when it was shot.
After his gun ran out of ammo, he dissolved it, then constructed a broadsword, then flew at the tarantula.
Before he could even make his next attack on it, the spider hit him with its front left leg, knocking him away. Eddie collapsed to the ground, but recovered as quick as he was knocked down. He looked back towards the tarantula, and constructed a big set of machine guns. He opened fire on it, and it did more damage than he had before, for he managed to shoot off its right front leg, making it screech even louder.
After Eddie stopped firing, it began to slowly walk towards him.
"That's it. Come over here," Eddie stared at it and constructed a grenade. After that, he zoomed at it, and when he was close enough, he took the top off the grenade and threw it into the spider's mouth, then flew upwards to evade from the explosion.
Just after he flew away, the construct tarantula blew to pieces, which dissolved after being destroyed.
Eddie then flew towards one of the giant scorpions, and as he was going towards it, he constructed a missile, then fired at the scorpion. When the missile came in contact, it blew up and dissolved like the spider.
In another area near where Eddie was, Elsa had been avoiding getting chomped by a giant snake, by moving out as quick as she could before it could chomp her. But every time she moved away, the construct serpent moved quickly and tried to get at her again. It moved so quick, that it was impossible for Elsa to fight back.
As she was trying to avoid getting attacked, the snake got an advantage and hit her with its tail, knocking her to the ground. The snake raised its head to finish Elsa off, but before it could chomp her, Eddie flew down and stabbed it on the back with a katana, saving Elsa just in time.
The snake screeched and looked towards Eddie. Eddie then got off its back and flew towards its head, and at the same time, it attempted to chomp him, but then Eddie used his sword to stab in through the mouth, like Harry Potter against the Basilisk.
After stabbing the snake, it fell to the ground and dissolved the second it hit the solid surface.
Eddie flew down towards Elsa and helped her up. "You okay?"
Elsa nodded her head and got to her feet. "That was close. I'm glad you came when you did."
"Come on. We need to finish off these monsters to find Sinestro."
"Okay. Let's go."
They both flew off and continued fighting Sinestro's monster constructs.
High above the whole town Carol and Hal were up against a swarm of bats the size of diesels.
As hundreds of them swarmed all over, Hal and Carol both tried to fend them off, but it was extremely difficult, for there were so many at once.
Hal had a baseball bat at hand, and was trying to hit the bats out of the sky with it, while Carol was using one of the Star Sapphire's powers, and was shooting pink gem shards from her ring at them.
"What'll we do?!" Carol exclaimed with a worried tone in her voice. "There's too many of them."
"I hate to say it, but for once I have no idea," Hal replied and he tried to come up with a plan. "Got it. Let's try lighting things up." He then constructed a flame thrower. "Carol, move back!"
"Don't have to tell me twice," Carol said moving away.
Hal set the flame thrower at full power, and began to shoot big flames at the bats, and it worked pretty well; He was hitting bats, and setting them on fire left and right. When they got caught on fire, they crashed to the ground, and were destroyed.
After his weapon ran out of ammo, Hal dissolved his flame thrower, then looked to see there were only a couple dozen of them left.
"Wow. It worked," Carol said coming back next to him.
"I think we can take care of the rest of these ugly guys easy," Hal said constructing a giant morning star. He flew at the remaining bats and started hitting them all with his weapon.
Carol constructed a javelin and followed Hal's lead.
Back on ground level, Guy Gardner and John Stewart were up against a pack of rhino-like aliens.
They not only had horns on their noses but on the sides of their heads as well. They had sharp looking thorns going straight across their backs, big mouths with hundreds of sharp teeth and they were 5 times bigger than a rhino.
Guy and John were both having issues, for the rhino-like aliens were quick and heavily armored, which made it almost impossible to fight them.
"These monsters are too heavily armored," said John. "None of our attacks will penetrate through them."
Guy shot a dozen rockets at the pack of rhinos, but it did no damage whatsoever. "You're right. We're obviously going about this the wrong way."
"So what do you propose?"
Guy looked back down to the stampeding rhinos. "Let's see. If our own attacks can't take them down, why don't we try using them against each other?"
"What are you saying?"
"Follow me!" Guy flew down and landed on the back of one of the rhinos. Once he was on its back, he constructed reins on it, then started to steer it. His plan worked; He used the rhino to ambush others, which destroyed them.
"Now why didn't I think of that?" John asked himself and then flew down. He landed on the back of a rhino, and did what Guy did. They started crashing and ambushing all the other rhinos, doing that same routine for a few minutes, until the only ones left were the ones they were riding.
John and Guy then steered their rhinos to make them crash into each other. Right before they crashed, John and Guy flew off and the rhinos came in contact just after they did, then dissolved to green mist.
"Well, looks like we're done with the alien rhinos," Guy said.
"Right. Now let's finish off these monsters," John responded and they both flew off into the city.
The 6 human Lanterns all made their way through fighting off spiders, scorpions, lizards and other aliens that took the forms of vicious and deranged looking birds, man eating rams that had sharp teeth and bigger horns.
Eddie flew fast at top speed, only inches above the ground, and went towards a group of spiders, the size of motorcycles. He constructed a set of machine guns on his back, and opened fire, blowing them all to pieces.
Elsa, who was right by his side, constructed a big set of dozens of bows and arrows behind her, and fired at the arachnid constructs.
An anaconda, that was twice as big and long as an original, came towards Eddie and tried to attack him, but he'd seen it and dodged it just in time. Then he constructed a broadsword and flew over, then cut its head off.
After doing so, he flew at the remaining spiders, then started to stab and cut them all up.
Hal and Carol faced off against swarms of bees, big as basketballs, and they both avoided to try and get stung by any of them.
Hal constructed a giant fire extinguisher, then sprayed them, so they wouldn't be able to fly.
Carol used her ring to shoot pink gems at the bees, which pierced straight through any that came in contact.
"Any idea on how we take down these bees, Hal? There's just too many."
"Let's see. If their wings are wet, they can't fly. If they can't fly, they're useless."
Hal raised his ring up into the air, which shot out the green energy of willpower, and it turned into a big blob of water. Hal stopped after a minute, then shot waves of water at the bees. When they got wet, the buzzing insects all started to fall to the ground.
"Too easy."
John and Guy were in mid-air, facing against dozens of great white sharks, that moved through the air, like they were swimming in water.
Guy constructed a harpoon, then fired it, which pierced right through 3 of them at once.
John constructed a buzz saw, and he flew at the sharks, slicing them all up, one by one, while Guy was using machine guns to shoot them all dead.
After a little while longer of the human Lanterns all fighting Sinestro's constructs, they'd finally finished them all, and regrouped in the center of the city.
"All right. Constructs are dealt with. Now let's find Sinestro," Hal spoke out first.
Guy made another scanner construct and began to work it. "I'm still having trouble locating him. The city's so big, he could be anywhere."
"Can you try locating his ring?" Eddie stepped in.
"I tried that earlier. He's still using his new powers to block the signal."
"Here' Maybe I can boost the power," Eddie said moving over towards Guy, and positioning his hand over his scanner construct; After doing so, Eddie's power supercharged it.
"Whoa!" Guy exclaimed surprisingly. "You did it. Readings are off the charts."
"Can you find him now?" John asked.
"Let's find out," Guy continued to fiddle with the scanner. "Got him. With these coordinates, it looks like they're pointing right to the Empire State building."
"Then let's go," Hal said as the six human Lanterns all flew towards the tallest building in the city.
Hovering above the Empire State Building, Sinestro was there, waiting for them to reach him.
After a few minutes, they'd all arrived.
"I must say, I'm impressed," Sinestro said to the humans. "I would've expected you all to have a more difficult time against my constructs."
"Games up, Thaal," Hal spoke up. "Your little reign of terror is over!"
"I think not, Jordan. The 6 of you all together couldn't take on the full powers of fear."
"Well, let's just see about that traitor," Guy stepped in. "We can take you all on!"
"Not we," Eddie moved ahead of them all.
"Eddie, what are you doing?" said Hal.
"I have to do it alone," Eddie responded.
"No. This isn't up for discussion!" John stated. "We're all in this together."
"You don't understand. I have to face him myself. I knew him better than anyone else. This is my fight."
"Come on. You can't expect us to just stand off to the said and watch him kill you," Guy said.
"Guy..." Hal interrupted. "...He's right. We have to let him do this."
"Are you crazy, Hank. There's no telling how strong Sinestro is now, thanks to his powers of fear. If he fights him alone, he'll be killed for sure."
"You don't understand. He's right. He actually did know Sinestro better than any of us. Thaal treated Eddie like a friend, and he trusted him in a way he's never done with us. Now it's only right he does the honors in finishing it," Hal said looking confidentially at the human Blue Lantern.
"You're right, Hal," Carol stepped in next to him. "It's his duty to end this."
"All right," John agreed with Hal. "Do what you gotta do."
"Don't die out there," Guy chimed in.
"Be careful, Eddie," Elsa said worriedly.
Eddie flew up towards Sinestro's level.
"Looks like it's just you and me, old friend," Sinestro said to Eddie.
"We're no longer friends, Thaal. You destroyed the trust between us, when you defiled the Corps."
"So be it. But you'll never fare against me. Your power of hope may overpower will, but it will never overpower fear."
"We'll see."
"And as for the rest of you humans," He said looking to the other human Lanterns. "I'll keep you occupied with these!" Thaal raised his Green Lantern ring into the air, shined a light from it and from that light, he made more monster constructs.
"Here we go again," Hal said disappointedly.
The dozens of monster constructs that Sinestro created all dived down towards the other humans, and the 5 of them all spread out, while beginning to fight the monsters constructs once more.
"This should keep them busy until I'm done with you," Sinestro looked back towards Eddie. "Now what's say we get down to business?"
Eddie constructed a broadsword in his right hand and a combat sword in his left. "Let's dance, traitor."
Thaal constructed a mace in his right hand, and a shield in his left. "I'm ready when you are."
Eddie zoomed up towards his former alien friend and attempted to strike him with his combat sword, but Sinestro acted quick and blocked it with his shield, then knocked Eddie away with his mace. "Fool. You think you actually stand a chance against me? You'll never win."
"In case you forgot, Thaal, I'm the one who beat you in battle the first time we met."
"That was training. This is the real thing."
"Same difference. I won't stop till you're defeated and brought to justice, traitor!" Eddie exclaimed and constructed a war hammer, then zoomed towards Sinestro.
Sinestro put up his shield, prepared to block Eddie's attack once more, but Eddie used his hammer to knock it out of his hand, then he kicked him away. He and Sinestro engaged in combat, fighting with their mace and hammer constructs.
"It doesn't have to be this way, Eddie," Sinestro said as he and Eddie slammed their weapons together, and both attempted to push each other back. "We don't have to fight."
"You're absolutely right. Just give up, leave fear behind and come back to us, then this'll all be over."
"No. You don't understand. As a Green Lantern, I always told everyone I wasn't afraid of anything, but I lied. I've always been afraid of the power of fear. Until I found out its power can be easily controlled. Don't you see? Because of this new power, even fear itself is nothing to be afraid of anymore. Why live in fear when you can control it, instead of it controlling you?"
He and Eddie both pushed each other back.
"Thaal, you're the one who doesn't get it. Being afraid is nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone out there, in the endless galaxy is afraid of something. It's just part of life. But that doesn't mean you can't overcome it. Just look inside yourself, Sinestro, and I know you can overcome this. It's not too late, Thaal. You can still do what's right and beat this."
"I'm afraid it is too late...for you!" He pointed with his right hand at Eddie. "You're the one who doesn't understand. And if you won't give into fear, then it will consume you!"
"Then you are lost!" Eddie yelled aloud. "And if this is who you are, then you leave me no choice, but to defeat you."
"You may try. But when this is over, you will have fallen at the hands of fear."
"No. You might believe that fear is true power now, but I know for a fact, hope is stronger, and will overpower fear. And I'll show you."
The Green and Blue Lanterns both flew at each other, and started to throw punches, kicks and fired energy blasts from their rings at each other.
In the other areas of the town, the other human Lanterns had continued on with fighting Sinestro's constructs, to lower his defenses.
By ramming it into a wall, made by Guy and John, Hal and Carol had destroyed one of the rhino-like monsters.
"Well, looks like we almost got all these monsters," Hal spoke up. "There's a few more of these rhinos running around, and there's at least a dozen bats swarming the skies."
"The bats aren't gonna be a problem," Guy added. "Watch this." He flew up into the air above the bats, constructed a giant set of machine guns, then opened fire on the remaining bats. After a minute of firing, and getting the bats one by one, Guy destroyed them all.
"Wow. He actually got them all," Hal said amazed.
"Come on. Let's take out these rhinos, before somebody gets hurt," John said, and he and the other 4 human Lanterns spread out.
In different areas, they all took on the last 4 rhinos.
Hal constructed a giant chainsaw, and landed on the back of his. He plunged the saw into its back, then flew across while cutting it open.
The rhino collapsed and crashed, but Hal flew off its back just before it did.
Carol had used a hand construct to grab one of its legs, then she pulled it back with all her strength and made it flip and crash into a parked construction machine. After crashing, the machine fell on and crushed the rhino, destroying it.
John flew onto the back of his rhino monster, constructed a set of machine guns, and fired on its back. He kept firing until the rhino, turned to green mist, and then flew up into the air.
Guy flew a ways past the last rhino monster, landed on the ground, then looked straight ahead at the rhino. "Come on, big guy. Come at me." He said charging up his ring.
The running alien rhino kept on running forward, going right at Guy.
"That's it. Just a little further."
When the rhino was only 10 feet away, Guy acted and constructed a 25 foot wall with spikes, and the rhino rammed right into it and dissolved to green mist.
"Yeah! Who's the man, huh? I am!"
After defeating the last of Sinestro's constructs, they all regrouped.
"All right. All of Sinestro's monsters are defeated. Now let's take him down," said Hal.
"But Eddie said to leave Sinestro to him," Elsa interfered.
"Look. Thaal's power over fear is growing more by the minute. He'll never defeat him alone," John chimed in. "If we don't help him, he'll be killed."
"He's right," Carol agreed. "Your friend needs help. So let's go."
The human Lanterns all flew away, and headed to find Eddie and Sinestro.
Flying and fighting through the air above the town, Sinestro knocked Eddie away with a hammer construct, which sent him flying away. "You die now, my old friend." He constructed a sword and zoomed towards Eddie.
Before he could strike the human Blue Lantern, a green energy blast hit him, and sent him flying back.
"You try anything like that with any of us, Thaal, and you pay the price," said Hal.
"You're all fools. The 6 of you together are no match for fear!" Sinestro exclaimed as his eyes began to glow yellow, and then a fiery yellow aura surrounded his body. Using the power of fear, he delved into their minds, to see what they were most afraid of. "Witness the true power of fear!"
The same yellow aura that Sinestro had on his body, appeared on the human Lanterns, and they all began to see their worst fears. They all yelled loudly, for they were afraid, that they were seeing what they were most afraid of.
"No! Anna!" Elsa cried, for she could see her sister dying in a horrible accident, and it kept replaying over and over in her head.
"What did you do to them?!" Eddie exclaimed.
"The power of fear. It's making them see their worst fears."
"I'll take you down!" Eddie yelled and flew towards Sinestro.
"Your turn!" Sinestro put his left hand out, then made a yellow aura appear on Eddie. "Submit to fear!"
Eddie began to see what he was most afraid of,and tried to keep it together, and concentrate on hope.
"Can't lose sight of hope!" Eddie said through gritted teeth, trying to fight fear. "I...won't...lose...HOPE!" He yelled aloud.
His Blue Lantern ring began to glow, and then a brighter blue aura surrounded his body, and extinguished the yellow light.
His whole body was glowing electric blue, like a Green Lantern when they were supercharged.
"It seems what I thought was true. Hope is stronger then fear."
Eddie charged up his ring, then hit Sinestro with a massive blast of blue light. After doing so, he put his middle and forefinger above in front of his face, then unleashed a force of blue light on the other human Lanterns, which extinguished the yellow auras surrounding their bodies.
"Whoa!" Hal said amazed when he saw Eddie. "You cancelled out his power of fear. You have the power to destroy fear."
"I am one with hope. I am its champion."
The other 5 Lanterns looked at him confidentially, as he knew his purpose as a Blue Lantern.
But the next thing they knew, Sinestro grabbed Eddie, and blasted him away with a green energy blast.
The others all flew towards Thaal, but he hit them with torpedo constructs, making them all fall downwards.
Elsa had recovered almost at once, then flew back towards Sinestro. Once she came in contact, she kicked him in his gut with the heel of her boot. After doing so, she grabbed him with a hand construct, pulled him back towards her, then punched him in the face, which sent him flying back again.
After being hit, Eddie flew towards Sinestro, then punched him in his gut with a boxing glove construct on his right hand.
Before he could make another move, Sinestro punched Eddie away with a fist construct, then grabbed Elsa with it. When he grabbed her, he threw her through mid-air, then constructed a big gun, which he used to shoot her with a massive green energy blast.
The green energy blast hit her, and she fell from mid-air onto the rooftop of a building, unharmed but unconscious as well.
Eddie had seen the whole thing, and then he glared angrily at Sinestro. "You're gonna regret a move like that!" He constructed a rocket, which he used to blast Sinestro out of the sky.
Sinestro was hit and started to fall from the air, but recovered in seconds.
Eddie flew to Thaal's level, and his ring began to beep, meaning it was running out of power.
"Looks to me like your ring's low on power. Where's your hope now Eddie," Sinestro said smirking at Eddie.
"You don't get it, do you, Thaal? Whether my ring is lit or not, my hope will always burn bright. And I'll use it to defeat you!"
Sinestro constructed a sabre sword in his right hand. "Just try it." He pointed his sword at Eddie.
Eddie zoomed towards him at top speed, and just before he reached him, he blasted the sword out of his hand, then jumped him. Eddie through many punches and kicks to Sinestro, while pushing him back even further.
Eddie pulled his last move, and hit Sinestro with a giant fist construct, sending him flying far back.
As he was, Eddie shot a lasso from his ring, and took Sinestro's Green Lantern ring, just before he hit a billboard, and fell unconscious on the roof of a building.
"And stay down," Eddie finished and his ring began beeping rapidly, then his suit disappeared and he began to fall from the skies. He closed his eyes and waited for death to take him. He was happy, knowing he did he saved many from Sinestro's wrath, and he waited to hit the ground.
But after a few seconds, nothing happened. Eddie opened his eyes, to see he was in a field of green energy, and flying above, Hal, John and Guy all using their rings to save him.
The trio of men lowered him to the ground, then Elsa flew down towards him.
"You did it. You beat him." She said proudly to Eddie.
"Yeah. I did, didn't I?"
"But please, don't ever scare me like that again," Elsa threw her arms around Eddie, and held him tightly. "I thought you were gonna fall to your death.
The other human Lanterns all lowered to their level, and John has Sinestro in a bubble construct.
"Now let's get this traitor back to Oa," said John.
That's it. Sinestro's been dealt with. His reign of terror is over...or is it? You'll find out exactly what happens in the next chapter. I'm sure you all know that Sinestro's in big trouble when the others take him in front of the Guardians. Until next time, please read, review and enjoy.
