Patricia's POV
Even though I'm surrounded by darkness, all I can think of is how weird Eddie's acting. He seems so agitated… like an animal. What happened at the 'training'? Has he just realised that the fate of the world is on his shoulders?...took him long enough. Wait…that doesn't make sense, if he realised how important this mission is then why is he suddenly taking such a big step. It's pretty stupid if you ask me…too stupid, and Eddie's done a lot of stupid things in the time that I've known him. Something's not right, and I'm going to find out what.
Nina's POV
I can't help but feel that we're all going to die. It happened so fast, at first all Eddie and I were doing was trying to enhance our powers and next thing I know we're in the tunnels. I know that what we had to sacrifice was a lot but if it will save millions of people then I'll do it.
"Are you okay?" Fabian asked me, concerned. I nodded slowly.
"You don't seem okay" He observed. I sighed…he knows me too well.
"I guess it all just happened to fast, I can't keep up" I said. Fabian's face twisted into a small frown.
"What exactly happened? Why is Eddie acting so weird?" He asked.
"Well…"
Amber's POV
" Alfie stop stepping on my toes!" I squealed jumping back.
"Whoops sorry! I can't see a thing" He said
" I know it's so dark and the worst part is, we're going to die! We're gonna die, I'll never get a chance to go to fashion school, I'll never get to release my own clothing line and I'll never get to have children!" I exclaimed bursting into tears.
" No Amber please don't cry! We're not going to die!" I shook my head.
"You don't know that" I whimpered
" Yes I do, I'll be your knight in shining armour, I'll protect you" He said. I wiped my tears away and looked towards his dark figure.
"You promise?"
"I promise" He declared. I smiled.
" Thanks Alfie"
Patricia's POV
After a while the silence was killing me, now I have to say something.
"Do you really think this was a good idea?" I asked.
"Yeah why wouldn't it be?" He answered his voice slightly edgy
"You know, going into the tunnels all willy-nilly not really knowing what to expect, does that not sound like a bad idea to you oh chosen one?"
"Willy-nilly sounds so British" He scoffed. I rolled my eyes at his attempt to change the subject.
"Don't try to change the subject Eddie!"
"I'm not! Look I know what I'm doing okay?" He assured me.
"Do you? Do you really? Eddie honestly you-" There was a loud bang from behind us.
"What was that?" I asked slightly panicked.
"I don't know," he said, I could tell he was trying to hide his fear "Let's just keep moving"
There was another loud bang from behind us, I was really starting to get creeped out. Then all of a sudden the floor disappeared beneath us, sending us tumbling into a dark abyss.
Nina's POV
" So he went crazy, one thing led to another and here we are" I finished explaining. Fabian didn't make a sound, the sound I could hear was the echo of my voice.
"Fabian?"
"So you're telling me you didn't finish your training?" he asked
"Yeah"
"So we could die any moment and you can't save us?"
"Well…when you put it like that it just sounds depressing"
" Nina this is serious! Doing this is like going into a lion's den with meat strapped to your butt!" he exclaimed, his voice echoed.
"I know, but I couldn't stop him! He was-" My sentence was interrupted by a loud bang.
"What was that?" I asked, looking around the tunnels.
"It's probably nothing" Fabian said softly, taking my hand. I nodded. The loud bang came again and I jumped.
"Fabian….that doesn't sound like no-" All of a sudden I felt myself falling.
Alfie's POV
Amber and I are walking in complete silence…yeah it's finally come to that point, when I have nothing left to say. I need to make a move…yeah that's it. But what should I say? Come on Alfie think!
"Have you ever wondered, if a deaf person goes to court is it still called a hearing?" I blurt out, immediately covering my mouth. Amber looked at me, raising her eyebrow slightly.
"You really have to stop telling such bad jokes, it's going to kill someone one day" she said. I laughed nervously.
"If Mars had earthquakes, would they be called Marsquakes?"
"Seriously Alfie you need to be quiet" Amber said shaking her head.
"Have you ever wondered-" There was a loud bang and the ground started to shake.
"See! Now you annoyed the creepy god's with your crappy jokes!" She yelled clinging on to me for support. I started panicking.
" Don't worry, I'll make sure nothing happens to you!" I shouted over the noise being made by the shaking ground.
Soon I felt myself falling
Nicholas' POV
I entered Chi's room continuously tapping on my phone.
"Hey aren't you coming to target practice?" I asked. When I heard no answer I looked up.
"What happened?" I asked, walking over to her bed cautiously where she lay. She sat up slightly and buried her head in her hands.
"It happened Nicholas" she murmured mournfully. She just called me Nicholas…this really must be serious.
"What do you mean?" I whispered. She raised her head and looked me in the eyes, then realisation hit me.

"He just ran off?" I asked.
"Yup" She dragged her hand from the top to the bottom of her face in a tired motion.
"How could he do that?...you didn't tell him what would happen to them if they went in there without the training did you?" I asked, bracing myself for the answer
"No…I didn't" she said, her face pale and emotionless. I sighed deeply.
"Well can't we do anything?"
"No, I talked to Osiris and Paragon…they said there's nothing we can do but wait" I rose my eyebrow.
"Since when do you do nothing? Come on can't you send them a message through your mind or something?" Her eyes suddenly lit up as she stood up.
"You're right!" she gasped. "I just hope it's not too late"
Eddie's POV
My eyes fluttered open, and all I saw was darkness. I turned my head to look around the room, groaning as I felt the pain in my neck. Patricia immediately popped into my head.
"Patricia!" I shouted, immediately feeling the burning pain in my lungs. I suddenly started coughing uncontrollably
"Eddie!" I heard a voice call. I craned my neck searching for the direction of the voice.
"Patricia!" I shouted back, struggling to stand up. Come on Eddie! Get up! I chanted to myself. I gritted my teeth while gripping the floor while I slowly lifted my body up into a sitting position. I grunted responding to the pain that shot through my arm.
"I'm coming Patricia" I said raising my voice and standing up. Ow, my knees wobbled and my head spun, I felt like the walls were closing in on me.
"Eddie!" I heard a voice call desperately, but I could barely hear .I tried to fight the dizziness that consumed my mind but it was too much for me. I fell to the ground, crying out as a crack was heard in my leg. I heard footsteps getting closer and closer.
"Eddie" The dizziness began to consume me, and I slipped into unconsciousness but not before I saw a blurry figure standing above me.
Nina's POV
I coughed uncontrollably as I opened my eyes to a dusty and dark surrounding.
"Fabian?" I asked the air as I looked around the dark room, but instead of hearing his warm voice I am left with silence.
"Fabian?!" I asked starting to panic. I slowly lifted my head up trying to avoid the sharp pain.
"Ow" I moaned softly, getting up into a sitting position. All my bones ached, my throat was dry and I felt like the air could drain from my lungs any minute.
"Fabian!" I shouted desperately hearing the echo of my voice. I started hyperventilating and stood up with a start.
"Fabian! Fabian where are you! Please answer me!" I whipped my head from side to side looking for any sign of him, but I found nothing. This can't be happening, why does being the chosen one always have to end like this!
"Patricia!" a familiar voice shouted. Eddie? Is he okay?
"Eddie! Eddie is that you? Can you hear me?" I shouted desperately trying to find the voice, but it was pitch black.
"Patricia!" I heard Eddie shout again followed by a lot of coughing. I felt around the walls and started to walk towards the voice, I could tell I was getting closer to him. I could feel it.
"Eddie are you there?" I heard a thump on the ground, is Eddie okay? I started walking faster towards where I thought he was until I saw a figure lying on the floor.
"Eddie!" I ran towards him and held his head in my hands, he was unconscious.
"Come one Eddie wake up!"
Nicholas' POV
" You're not glowing? Why aren't you glowing?" I asked worriedly
"I don't know, I-I can't concentrate" she stuttered closing her eyes tighter make the crease on her forehead deeper.
Five minutes later and nothing had still happened.
"Okay there's something you're not telling me, what's wrong?" I asked sitting beside her.
"Nothing, I'm fine, I guess I'm just a bit shaken up by the situation" she said avoiding my eyes.
"Shaken up? I don't believe that" I scoffed lightly. She frowned looking at the ground.
"It's not like I'm scared it's just, seeing the flashback of the situation behind my cousins death, seeing the fury and hatred Eddie had for me during training…it's just a bit too much for me today. The look on Eddie's face, it reminded me of how hard it is to let go" she murmured. I looked at her sympathetically.
"Chi, I know it's hard for you right now but think if of it this way, you will never get the chance of seeing Eddie again if you don't find a way to communicate with him, Chiamaka look at me" she looked up at me slightly surprised by me using her full name "Do whatever you need to do to get in touch with him, you need to" I said looking her straight in the eye
" Whatever I need to do?" She repeated. I nodded smiling slightly.
"Whatever you need to do, you can do it, I know you can" I assured her.
"I don't think you're going to like what I'm about to do" she frowned. I raised my eyebrow.
" Why am I not gonna-woah" In a matter of two seconds her lips were on mine, but before I could get over the shock she had already pulled away. Just as I was about to ask about what just happened she had already started glowing.
What just happened?
Nina's POV
The room suddenly lit up with torches on the walls, revealing all of the Egyptian writing and hieroglyphics on the walls. I gazed in awe, I wonder what it means, maybe it's our ticket out of here. I bet Fabian can translate it! Then we can get out of here and…oh yeah, Fabian's not here. I sunk to my feet, oh where is help when you need it?
"Chosen one" A voice rung in my head. I sat up at once.
" Chi? Is that you?" I whispered to myself.
"Indeed it is, my concentration and energy is very limited so I cannot talk for long, are you alright?" She answered
"No, Eddie is unconscious, Fabian and Patricia are missing and there is no sign of Amber and Alfie" I said panicking. I heard Chi sigh.
" I was afraid this would happen, I'm so sorry I should have tried better to stop you guys" she said gravely. I felt my eyes starting to water.
"What do you mean by that? What are you afraid is going to happen?" I asked starting to hyperventilate again.
"Nina…because you and Eddie didn't complete the training, the gods of the tunnels have deemed you unworthy and have taking your loved ones as a sacrifice. If you don't complete the chosen state by 7 o' clock, not only will Fabian and Patricia die but so will Amber and Alfie and you and Eddie, leaving the entire world with no hope"
I stood frozen, not able to move.
"I can feel myself getting weaker I have to go" she said. I escaped my trance immediately.
" What? No please don't go! How are we supposed to do it in time!"
"You have 10 minutes you'll be fine, just remember all I said to you okay!" I heard her voice getting faint
"No Chi wait!"
"Good luck!" That was the last I heard from her. The silence was starting to kill me until I heard a light groan.
Eddie's POV
My eyes fluttered open and the blurry face became clear to me. I groaned noticing how heavy my head felt.
"Nina?" her face immediately faced my in a matter of seconds.
"Eddie!" She gasped "How are you feeling?"
"Alright I guess, a bit dizzy though" I said sitting up "Where's Patricia? Is she okay?" Nina's expression reflected pain and anguish. I looked at her hopeless and confused.
" I have bad news" she said. So she explained it to me, how we are all set up for disaster if we don't complete the chosen state. When she finished talking I didn't say anything, I just sat looking at the walls. I realised the torches lit on the sides. Eventually I spoke.
"Great" I said sarcastically "Chi told you this did she?" Nina nodded. I scoffed.
"Then it's bullshit" I said standing up and dusting off my jeans. Nina's eyes widened as she stood up.
"What do you mean?"
"First she tells me to stop loving Patricia and now she's basically saying loving her is going to kill me" I rolled my eyes " Bullshit, I'm going to find Patricia" I declared walking ahead. She walked in front of me and tried to block my path.
"Eddie no! Think about it! She told you not to go into the tunnels and now look where we are, do you really want to ignore her instructions again?" Nina said. I pretended to think about it.
"Yup, you gonna let me pass now?" she shook her head.
"Eddie don't do this! You don't think I love Fabian? You don't think I'd rather die than let him go?! Well I do, but I'm doing this because it's not just my life, it's millions of people and our friends, do you really want to have all their deaths on our hands?!" She yelled at me. There was a 30 second silence.
"Eddie!" I heard a familiar voice called, Patricia! Nina gave me a look.
"I have to go" I said shoving past her
"Eddie no!" I heard her shouting from behind but I just walked faster, holding my head to keep myself steady.
"Eddie!" Patricia shouted again.
"I'm coming Patricia" I shouted back breaking into a run. I followed her voice to a circle room, lit with torches. At The back of the room I saw Patricia, I smiled in relief.
"Patricia!" I called out for her but when I took one step into the circle room the place where she was standing suddenly turned into what looked like a small golden blackhole, she screamed and fell trying to grip the walls. I gasped running to her.
"Eddie! Help me!" she screamed. I went to her and tried to pull her out but the golden hole was too strong.
"Patricia!" I tried pulling harder but the hole was pulling her in until her fingers slipped from my hand and she fell into the golden blackhole screaming my name as she disappeared along with the hole. I fell to my knees, speechless. She's gone. It was then when the word-that I could not hear- from my earlier vision of Edward became clear to me. Death.
I felt a soft hand on my shoulder; I looked up and saw Nina.
"Let's finish this" she said. I nodded and went into a meditating position, as did Nina. I tried to remember all that Chi told me. All the seven doors. Survival, pleasure soon I was on to the last door…supernatural energy.
I breathed in…Okay Eddie let go of all your earthly attachments. Soon I felt myself getting hot and floating in the air. Have I done it? I open my eyes to see a bright light in the middle of the room I shield my eyes from it, then everything goes black.
When my eyes open I notice I am back in the anti-chamber, did it work. I get up from the floor and look around the room. Alfie, Amber, Nina and Fabian are all here sleeping, but where's yacker. I take one last look around and spot a string of red hair in the corner of the room.
"Yacker!" I shouted, waking everyone up. She lifted her head up and rubbed her eyes tired.
"Urgh, why so loud" she groaned. I ran over to her and hugged her, when I pulled away she gave me a 'have you gone crazy?' look
"I'll explain later if you really want me to?" I asked
"You know what, I don't think I want to know" she said standing up "You coming or what?"
"Uh yeah" I looked over to Nina giving her a thumbs up, she smiled back. As we walked into Anubis house Patricia looked at me with an eyebrow raised.
"Eddie have you realised you're walking without your crutches?" Patricia said. I rolled my eyes
"Oh please, my crutches are right under my-" I looked towards my arm and saw nothing, my eyes widened. My legs better
"I'm walking?!" I exclaimed
"No shit Sherlock" Patricia said laughing. Maybe the whole supernatural chosen one did me a favour for once.
….
Later that day, Sibuna decided to meet in Chi's room, but when we got there we found her lying on her bed with Nicholas sitting on a chair beside her bed. We gave him a quizzical look.
"Nicholas…why?" Alfie asked shaking his head. Nicholas' cheeks went red.
"What? No of course not, I didn't do that! She just kind of passed out after she talked to Nina" He explained, laughing nervously
"Passed out?!" I exclaimed
"Yeah but she'll be fine, she just needs rest that's all" he assured us. I looked at Chi sleeping peacefully, then an idea hit me.
"Well I wouldn't be Eddie if I didn't take advantage of this situation" I said smirking.
"Uh Oh" Amber said. I took a marker from the desk beside me and walked over to where Chi laid. I was about to press the marker to her face until…
"Don't even think about it" she mumbled as her eyes shot open. I jumped back slightly, surprised.
She sat up "Trust you Eddie" I shrugged smirking
"So I see you're all alive?" she said.
"Yup! Thanks to you" Nina said, happily grabbing Fabian's hand. Chi shook her head.
"You would have figured it out anyways" she said.
"Yeah I'm really sorry by the way, I should have listened to you" I said scratching the back of my neck.
"You should have, but I completely understand why you didn't, don't worry about it" she said smiling.
"Thanks" I said
"You guys did well today but we still have to get the crowns and Eddie…there's something that I need to tell you" She murmured. I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Getting crowns wont only save the world, it will also save something that you have lost" She looked my straight in the eye and the name that appeared in my head two seconds later, sent chills through my spine.
