Slight Angst but don't worry loves :)

"Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Mikaelson, you're parents," The smiling nurse handed Klaus the little baby and he never expected to be happier in his entire life. He looked over to Caroline who was lying exhausted on the table, a small smile on her face.

"We did it sweetheart," He said with a small laugh, "We did it,"

There had been complications with Caroline's previous attempts at conceiving children. She'd had three miscarriages in the past and they'd had too many problems with conceiving that they had lost count. It had really taken a toll on the both of them, but none more so than Caroline. When she finally went into labor the fourth time around they both thought it was too good to be true. And until she was 10 centimeters dilated everything had been going uniformly. But then the doctor came in and told them that they would have to perform an emergency c-section because the baby wasn't coming.
Caroline had looked at him with an expression of pure terror and he had tried his hardest to comfort her as the doctor wheeled her into the operating room. Inside though, he was as terrified as her, if not more so. But he held her hand through everything; he told her how great she was doing as the doctor began to perform the operation. He reassured her that the doctor was doing an excellent job with the process and then finally it was over.

The doctor pulled the baby out of his wife and he couldn't help the ecstatic grin that appeared on his face as he saw the little thing. He told Caroline how beautiful their little baby was and she smiled at him tiredly, the anesthesia she was under made her groggy but he just kept talking to her. Telling her how amazing she had done, how beautiful their daughter was. The nurse came over and handed him the baby, congratulating the two of them with a bright smile.

For a few glorious moments everything was perfect. He rested the baby on Caroline's chest and she smiled down at her daughter, bringing her hand up to touch the child's head lovingly.

Then there was a sound that he never expected to hear. The heart monitor that had been emitting a steady beeping sound throughout the whole process began to produce a more frantic beeping. Klaus looked over at the machine in confusion, seeing the lines that were going up and down getting closer and closer together. A nurse said something that he didn't catch and then someone took the baby from Caroline's chest. Someone took Klaus' arm, saying something to him that he couldn't hear. The beeping got faster still and then it was just a single steady beep.

"She's lost too much blood," Someone yelled, and that time he did catch it. He was being pulled away from his wife, whose eyes were rolled into the back of her head.

"I'm sorry sir, you're going to have to wait out here," A nurse told him apologetically as she pushed him out into the hall.

"What's happening?" Klaus asked panicked as he tried to see over her shoulder. There were people running every which way through the room, everyone was yelling.

"Your wife lost a lot of blood during the procedure, they're trying to get it under control." The nurse's voice was calm, way too calm.

"What about the baby? What about my daughter?"

"She's fine, sir, she's fine. We just need to get everything under control, please Mr. Mikaelson just stay out here. Someone will be out to update you shortly," With that she turned and rushed back into the room.

People were milling around him in the waiting area. They were all laughing as they heard about the new additions to their families or friends. Klaus sat staring blankly at the wall. The cap they had given him before the operation was in his hands and he was twisting it anxiously.

"Niklaus?" His head snapped up, hoping to see a doctor or someone with news on his wife's condition. Instead he saw his older brother Elijah, standing in front of him wearing his usual suit and tie attire. Elijah took one look at his brother's face and went to sit next to him. "What happened?" He asked. Klaus' head dropped and he stared at the hat in his hands.

"Caroline went into labor a few hours ago," He said quietly and Elijah nodded. Rebekah had called him when she went to Klaus and Caroline's and there had been no one there. Immediately Elijah had dropped everything and made his way to the hospital. "There were some complications and they had to perform an emergency c-section," Elijah's eyebrows furrowed in worry as he saw Klaus tense, "She lost a lot of blood," Klaus' voice cracked and Elijah reached out and pulled his brother into his arms so that his head was on his chest and Elijah had his arms were around Niklaus' shoulders.

Klaus held tight to Elijah's arm as his brother hugged him and he fought the sobs that were fighting to overtake his body. "Is the baby…" Elijah couldn't finish and Klaus shook his head.

"She's fine," He said brokenly, "They got her out in time,"

There were running footsteps coming from the hall and in a second Rebekah was there too. Her husband Stefan close behind her. Elijah caught her eye and in an instant Rebekah's expression went from excitement to surprise to pity. She sank into the seat on the other side of Klaus and rested her hand on his back, moving it up and down.

"The baby," She said quietly and Elijah shook his head, earning himself a questioning look from Rebekah.

"Caroline had to have an emergency procedure. She lost a lot of blood," Rebekah gasped and her face went white and she pulled Klaus' shoulder until he was sitting up. His eyes were bloodshot from silently crying and Rebekah's heart broke for him.

There was nothing that Niklaus loved more in the world than his Caroline. She had come into his life when he was at his darkest and somehow she had brought him back to the light. Caroline had single handedly mended their entire family with her bright smile and cheerful attitude. When she had gotten pregnant the first time Rebekah had never seen a couple look as happy as Klaus and Caroline were. And when they had lost the baby they had both been devastated beyond belief. Rebekah couldn't imagine Klaus without Caroline, just like she couldn't imagine Caroline without Klaus.

"Look at me Nik," Bekah put her hands on either side of her brother's face. She could feel tears well up in her eyes and spill over as she thought about what he must be feeling, "Caroline is a fighter. She's the most stubborn person I've ever known, even more so than you. She's going to pull through, she always does," Klaus nodded and Rebekah pulled him close.

He turned his head into her shoulder and his body began to shake as he cried. Stefan watched the scene quietly, moving to sit next to his wife and kiss her cheek lovingly before he rested his hand on the top of Klaus' head.

Rebekah rubbed Klaus' back soothingly; constantly reassuring him that Caroline would be alright. Elijah got up after a few moments to call the other members of the family, telling them the news and assuring them that he would keep them posted when news of Caroline's condition came in.

"I remember the first time that I met Caroline," Stefan spoke up a few minutes after Klaus' sobs had died down, "You brought her to the grill to meet me and Bex and then Kol showed up," Stefan laughed and shook his head, "You two weren't even there for fifteen minutes before Kol started to make inappropriate jokes. I remember you were seconds away from punching him but Caroline grabbed the nearest glass to her and threw whatever was in it in his face." Rebekah laughed and she swore she felt Klaus smile into her shoulder. "Bex and I bet that night on you guys getting married," Rebekah hit Stefan's arm and shot him a look, to which Stefan just shrugged.

Bekah felt Klaus pull out of her arms and she let him. His face was blotchy from crying but he had a small smile on his face. "You bet on if we would get married or not?" He asked, looking between the two. Rebekah looked down, blushing and Stefan gave a loud laugh.

"No, we never bet on if you would get married," He said grinning at his best friend, "We bet on when you would get married," Klaus smiled.

"Klaus Mikaelson?" Rebekah, Stefan and Klaus' heads all snapped up at the soft voice coming from in front of them.

"That'd be me," Klaus stood, Rebekah could see his hands shaking and she stood with him, taking his hand. Klaus shot her a grateful look before looking towards the nurse.

"Can you come with me please?" Klaus nodded, pulling his hand out of Rebekah's.

The nurse led him down a hallway. She said nothing, not that he would be able to hear it if she did, his heart was pounding and all he could hear was the blood pounding in his ear. She stopped in front of a door and told him to wait there. Moments later she came back with a doctor. "Mr. Mikaelson?" The doctor asked and Klaus nodded, swallowing nervously.

"I'm your wife's doctor, Meredith Fell," He nodded. "Caroline lost a lot of blood during the operation, but we managed to get her condition under control," Klaus' whole body sagged in relief, "She's sleeping now. She's going to need a lot of rest, her body is thoroughly exhausted after both the pregnancy and the blood loss but she's going to be perfectly fine," Meredith smiled and Klaus let the news sink in, "You can go in if you'd like," She gestured towards the room they were standing in front of and Klaus nodded turning towards the door.

"Thank you," He said looking over his shoulder, just before he entered the dimly lit room.

"Nik?" A weak voice called and he grinned at the sound of her voice.

"You're supposed to be sleeping sweetheart," He chastised gently, sitting down in the chair next to the bed and taking her hand in his. She let out a tired scoff and he chuckled, bringing her hand to his lips and kissing her finger tips, "You never listen to anyone do you?"

"Not even you Mikaelson," He brought her hand to his cheek and held it there.

"You scared me for a while there love," He said quietly, letting the vulnerability he felt seep into his voice.

"I'm sorry, I just won't bleed as much next time," She responded dryly and he let out a laugh.

"You made me cry in front of my siblings," It was her turn to laugh.

"Kol will never let you live that down,"

"Luckily he wasn't there,"

"Nik?" She asked, the playfulness gone from her voice.

"Yes my love?" He scooted closer to the bed.

"Is the baby ok?" He could hear the fear in her voice and he brushed a strand of sweaty hair out of her face. She was paler than he'd ever seen her.

"She's fine, as beautiful as her mother," He leaned forward and kissed her forehead.

"It's a girl?" Caroline asked excitedly.

"She is indeed," he said quietly, "Our little Elizabeth Rebekah Mikaelson,"

"Thank you," Caroline whispered, her eyes drifting closed in exhaustion.

"I love you," He responded, "Sleep love, you've been through a lot and you need your rest,"

"Don't tell me what to do," She mumbled, but she was asleep before he could even form a response.
